This place has the best food and makes me sit there with a smile the whole time! The two ladies in the kitchen are such wonderful cooks! The gentleman of the place is super attentive and just a joy to be around! My wife had the carnitas torta which was huge and delicious! I had the carne adovada smothered and let me say I’m still smiling! I love this place so much!

Owners make you feel at home, and after awhile they know what you want and how you want it made. Been coming here for about 29 years.

Juanita's is the best food in Albuquerque. We go there at least 3 times a week. We just can't get enough of her delicious home made food. I love her bean's, her rice, her Chile, well just love all her food. And a coke in a cold bottle. The BEST food in Albuquerque. Thank you Juanita for your wonderful food and you all are so nice and friendly. Feels like family ❤️.

If you are looking for norteño Mexicano food (Sonora style), look no further. This is a small mom and pops restaurant undernervalued by most US New Mexican. A true Norteño certainty would appreciate this jewel in downtown abq

Pictured is the Wednesday special-Navajo Taco and the chicken enchiladas plate. The Navajo Taco was delicious and the chicken in the enchiladas plate was cooked perfectly. Yummy comfort food for a reasonable price. Parking is a bit difficult but this place is definitely worth a stop, especially after visiting the BioPark!

No wonder no one around during lunch hours. Last time i ate here was 2010 this placecwas booming. Food is not authentic New Mexican food. They used uncooked powered red chili on uncooked corn tortillas for enchiladas. I took one bite and left. Still paid bill.

Very good New Mexico Mexican food. If you’re wondering what that means, it’s a fusion of traditional New Mexican food, and Classic Mexican food. I enjoyed the old school atmosphere, and was impressed by how long they’ve been in business. They’ve withstood the test of time, and survived the pandemic! Their food was good, definitely not disappointing. I always ask myself, “would I be back?” And the answer is yes for this place. If you’re gluten sensitive, note that their red chile is thickened with flour. But, there are several menu items that don’t contain any wheat products. The salsa and chips were very good, and the items my friend and I had were good.

If you want to eat delicious food, this is the place.

This place was extra busy at lunchtime because Barela's down the street was closed. The staff were working hard helping people at tables as well as the drive-thru. Counting a ten-minute wait to get a seat, I spent about an hour here at lunchtime. The salsa that came with tortilla chips was so watery I could hardly get it to stay on a trip. I ordered the carne adovada enchiladas with red chile and sour cream. The enchilada was one of the smallest I've had in New Mexico this week, but it was tasty; the red chile was tangy. Although this place felt very authentic and local (must people were speaking Spanish), and we probably family-owned, I don't think I'll come back. There are better value places in this price range.

Hard to find the door lol The tea tasted funny... Juanita said the tea was fresh so I'm going to say don't order the tea lol It was a little bit pricier than I would like. I think she charged us for the tea and the Coke we had to order instead...

Just go, what are you waiting for? The food is amazing! If you go for lunch call ahead at least 30-45 minutes, that way you can get your food once you sit down. It will still be warm.

Delishhhhh! Lovely little family run restaurant!

Visit Date: 08/09/23 THE GOOD: Def super cute, and def had a very "welcome home" vibe. A member of the ABQ Foodies page on facebook described it as “…if you don’t have a Mexican grandma, or she lives too far away, this is your spot.” And she wasn’t wrong, it definitely feels like grandmas kitchen. As far as the food, I really enjoyed the rice, great flavor and texture. The beans had good flavor but were super runny/thin. The salsa that came with the chips and salsa for the table had great flavor! THE REST: I made the mistake of going during lunch. We waited 15 min for a table and sat elbow to elbow, but I think this adds to the feeling of being in someone’s kitchen. The problem is that lunch is so busy that once our order was taken, we waited on food for 45 minutes. So maybe go before or after the lunch rush. I ordered guisado de Bistek Ranchero. The meat was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. The tomato/Chile Serrano in the bistek added some flavor, but there was no salt/seasoning outside of that. My friend and I split the mole burrito so that we could try the mole sauce, and it definitely did not taste home made. The consistency was off, it was very thin and it tasted very much like canned mole. Again it lacked seasoning/flavor. The most dissapoining part for me was the service. Although the ladies that work here and run the place are very sweet, they only came to our table to take our order and then drop food. That was it. They never returned to check on our table. I had really hoped to ask for corn tortillas to go with my dish, as the plate doesnt come with tortillas. At my abuela's house, there was always corn tortillas. This was not the case at Juanitas. We did everything to get their attention, short of chasing them into the kitchen, and it just didn’t happen. Overall, I would go back. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't quite Mexican. I'd say 60% of their food is New Mexican (see all of the Green Chile options and Carne Adovada). And New Mexican food is fine when I'm in the mood for that. But labeling this as Comida Mexicana from the motherland is a bit misleading.

The food was very good. Got the relleno plate. The green chili was flavorful and a nice medium spicy.

We decided to try a new place for lunch and this was close by. It's a small place with a little parking, but what a little treasure! Homemade chips and salsa at your table, the chips still warm in the basket. My BFF said the salsa was "a little zippy", which means hot in the real world. LOL He got the chicharrones burrito and I chose the 3 rolled cheese enchilada plate. (red on the side) I didn't use much of the red since it had great flavor, but had a punch after a moment. To be fair, my spicy tolerance has lowered, so if yours is average, go for it. The beans were delicious as well. The big surprise was the rice. Layers of seasoning flavor this and I liked it. I normally never like the rice, but this was the first good one I've had. I got the sense this is yummy "grandma-style" cooking. It's only open until 2:45pm, but we'll definitely be back! (I also love those Mexican cokes in the bottle. So much better.)

Authentic & endearing . Food is quick, service good , atmosphere is casual. A great spot for bkfast ( get there early) bc there is limited seating. Great for a quick bite before visiting the Zoo .

After living in Mexico, I missed a lot of the authentic foods. New Mexican is nice, but I wanted traditional Mexican. Was told by a friend to check this place out. I'm glad that I ordered take out. Nobody else had to be subjected to my disgusting sounds and slurps of pure bliss! Carnita torta. Tender, sloppy and heavenly. Place was packed, always a good sign. Woman who took my order was warm, friendly and efficient. The atmosphere felt like pure Mexico.

Fantastic little place! Awesome Huevos Racheros (Christmas, of course) and a very nice staff. A MUST TRY!

First time and I enjoyed it ,the price was kinda high 3 of us over $55. for breakfast burritos, but lately everything is expensive 😕

Service was decent but the food was not very good to say the least. The chile rellenos was just a green chili no egg on it nothing don't know where they learned to cook. Quesadilla (chicken) had absolutely no flavor same thing with the beans. Definitely do not recommend this place....

Food is absolutely delicious! Very welcoming dining area. Felt like I was home with the family. Good portions and seasoned to traditional perfección!

I have known about Juanita's for 20 years and have always gotten excellent service... it's the best food ever all of it but I especially love the menudo 🥰🥰 you will not be disappointed 👍👍

Down home Mexican food. This place is a little treasure of Albuquerque. The food is like mom made it, Juanita is the owner and personally serves her customers. Prices are great and you leave full. We've been going there for 13yrs. Love it!!

Absolutely authentic and 100% delicious!

I stayed in Albuquerque for 3 months. I enjoyed my meal (chicken fajita) here the most. It was obvious the locals know the value of Juanita's - it was busy and everyone was friendly. This place should be featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It's a Dive with a Drive-in that serves superb genuine New Mexican food.

Accidentally found this place about 5 years ago and eat there at least once a week. The food is very delicious and Juanita is just the cutest woman ever. There is nothing I have eaten here that was bad. Well worth the money but to be honest, it's not expensive. Green Chili is a little hot though but very tasty indeed. If you haven't eaten here, you definitely need to give it a shot. Pictured is the Red Tampiquena. It comes with chopped beef, onions, tomatoes and Jalapenos. There is a cheese enchilada hidden under the meat and you get 2 beef flautas with sour cream and avocado. This dish comes with beans and rice.

Cozy little restaurant made me feel like I was dining at grandma's house! Had to try the carne adovada! Will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu!

Driving through Albuquerque and decided to try this because of the reviews. They did not disappoint!!! This was the best Asada Gorditas EVER and the beans and rice are so GOOD!!!! No pictures because nothing left on my plate.

The food was delicious! I had the gorditos one beef the other chicken with beans and rice. The restrooms were the cleanest restrooms; I have been in at a food establishment in a long time! Kudos for the staff!!! Cleanest and good food means everything!!!!

I had the gordita plate and my husband had the Navajo taco. The food was DELICIOUS!!!! I love the "at home" feeling of this restaurant. We left so stuffed, literally finger licking good! Staff was friendly and attentive, very reasonably priced!!

Juanita's is a nice lil hole in the wall type of restaurant. Food is always delicious and warm, and gets to your table pretty fast. My go to dish is the Flautas plate and both chicken and beef are the shizznit.

La comida estaba increible. No puedes ser mucho más mexicano que esto. Mi esposa e incluso me encantó la comida. Ella es de México y generalmente es decepcionante. Sin embargo, a los dos nos encantó la comida. El lugar es pequeño y es posible que tenga que esperar un minuto para una mesa. Fuimos a almorzar y estaban llenos. Tan pronto como una persona se fue, entró otra. Me pareció un porro de mamá y papá y algunos cocineros. El servicio fue bueno. Fuimos a almorzar justo antes de ir al zoológico.

If you have the chance... Get there. Great food. You may have to wait at lunch as there is limited seating but the great himestyke food is worth the wait. Nothing fancy just great food

How have not seen this restaurant before? It's a hidden gem located on 4th Street in the Barelas neighborhood. North of Bridge street. I watched the ladies make empanaditas and tortillas! Very clean and quaint. They also made the dough and bread for the tortas de chicharrone! I'll be back soon!
