They give you free tours of their distilling process every 30 minutes. We tried a couple of their rum flavors after, and got pina coladas. Their pina colada mix was so delicious with pineapple pieces in it! Highly recommended!

First visit. Nice staff. Enjoyed a couple samples and then had a Mojito and Pina Coloda. The vanilla rum cake is delicious. Happened to meet Paul at a Cuban restaurant later that night. All the best!

We took the mojito making class with Crystal and had the best time! We got there early and even got to do the tour of the distillery which was a nice little bonus. The class itself was so much fun and very educational and if you think you don’t like mojitos you just don’t like American mojitos! Learning how to make a true mojito was great and can’t wait to make them at home now!

I bought a bottle and was even allowed to try it beforehand. The woman who served me was extremely friendly! Absolutely recommended!

Super fun place. Great selection of rums and they do have a kick! They allow you to sample as many as you want. They also had samples of their own in house pina colada and it was hands down probably the best tasting pina colada I’ve ever had. We bought a bottle of the pineapple rum and coconut rum. They were both delicious. Great customer service as well. Definitely recommend when you’re in town.

We took the Mojito making class. There were 5 of us and we had so much fun. I highly recommend it. Stacey our teacher was fantastic. We learned how to make amazing Mojito's and sampled different types of rums. I loved the history and the stories Stacey told. Paul the owner stopped by our class. I really enjoyed hearing about the science behind his rum making and some of the other products he is working on. It's an experience you won't forget.

Should have taken some more photos, but this is a cool place to come check out and take a tour and have a mojito. Wide selection of different rums that you are allowed to sample. Our favorite ended up being the raw and unfiltered. We will certainly do this again.

The best rum! Handcrafted, all natural, and delicious! The staff is fantastic, knowledgeable, and friendly. I recommend the tour… and free tasting! Favorite is the glazed pineapple rum.

I'm a long time and frequent visitor to Key West and today was my first visit to this distillery, having been to others. I must say the free tour, though brief, was very interesting and well done. Our guide, Jason, was outstanding and kept our attention. The ladies out front were very friendly and willing to offer samples of any of the fine rums sold. The piñacoladas are quite possibly the best on the island. If you like rum, or even can appreciate it, I would say this is a Key West must do. The bottles (even the "airplane" sizes would make great Key West souvenirs and gifts as they are all names after pices of Key West History.

We initially made a mistake and went to the wrong distillery, but ultimately found our way here, and the difference was like night and day. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and offered free frozen samples—a surefire way to win us over from the start. The staff here are incredibly friendly, especially the ladies at the front who enthusiastically explained the various drinks available. They even offered us a free tour of the distillery. Although the place isn't very large, our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable about the rum brewing process and the distillery's history. If you're visiting, I definitely recommend this place over the other one.

This is a MUST DO on your Key West trip. After tasting the Pina Colada sample, I purchased a full size Pina Colada which was amazing and I also purchased a bottle of Pineapple Rum. The owner and staff were amazing on the tour. Incredible experience!

My friends and I did a mojito making class with Crystal for a bachelorette party and we could not have had more fun!! We learned the history of rum running and the distillery, but most importantly, learned how to make the BEST mojito! Highly recommend for anyone visiting Key West. Excellent rum for rum lovers! Learned that they distill their rums 6 times, which helps with no hangover effects, apparently. Anyway, I highly recommend a visit and sampling the rum - you will become a buyer of their rum!

The Pina colada is smooth and satisfying. This is the place when looking for a well crafted beverage! The shop is clean and prices are reasonable for what you get.

Stopped here with my Dad last week. Neither of us like rum, but it was an interesting (and free!!) thing to do. We were greeted by Gabby who was very friendly, and given a pina colada sample, which we both really enjoyed despite not liking rum. We were also allowed to try various rums at the counter while we waited for the tour to start (didn't care for this as much since we aren't rum drinkers, but always a nice perk!). Once on the tour we enjoyed learning about the process of distilling rum and the history in Key West. Bob, our guide, was clearly passionate about his job and was very informative! Tour didn't take too long and for being a free activity it was worth a visit!!

Went there for the free tour, the ladies at the storefront were more than courteous. I had so many questions and requests and they accommodated me gracefully. The tour itself was nice and short. We stopped here for the mojito class back in January of this year. We were able to have a private class with just 4 people allowing for a true personal touch. One of the owners leads the class and is so knowledgeable both about the history of rum in key west and the product offerings. We left with all the equipment (minus food) to make our own mojitos at home, a recipe, and a class completion certificate. We will be ordering run to be shipped back home to make an authentic key west legal run mojito back home. Also, the pina colada is probably the best in town. Highly highly recommend for an evening of entertainment and good spirits.

Awesome time! Had a great tour guide on Sat that was fun and informative. Drinks are great - your is free (with a drink) the mojitos are to die for. Samples on the tour too! And after. On the tour was such an interesting story about the history of a sassy lady on the island. Perfect balance of actually learning something, getting tipsy, and having fun! Must do in key west! Wish the airplane bottles to take home weren’t so expensive though!

Awesome experience in key west! My partner and I put our names on the standby list for the mojito making class and Crystal texted us the next day to confirm our spots. The class was ~1.5 hours and included a tour of the distillery, a history of Cuban rum runners, and a full mojito making class. She gave us tons of samples of the various rums they make and made the whole experience warm and friendly. The whole class (6 people) were chatting and became friends by the end! Truly great experience.

This class was so fun! This was the first activity we did for a bachelorette party and it was perfect. They gave us plenty of samples and gave us the history of their business. We got take take home some cute mojito supplies and they even had a few bach decorations up for us! Stacey was a great teacher :)

Right on one of the main streets near the square. As we walked by, we were invited in to take a quick tour and hear the story of the place by the friendly folks who work there. It's small, but they have samples and stuff to buy - including their rum. The good stuff was a bit out of our price range, but we enjoyed visiting.

Completely ignored by the staff. Just wanted to do a quick tasting. The woman I finally asked was very rude and not helpful. Went down the street to Pilar Rum Distillery and had a great tour and tasting in a much cooler space. Glad we didn't waste any more of our time at this place.

If you're like me, you expect high prices when you're in a touristy place. I was pleasantly surprised to NOT have that happen at Keywest First Legal Rum Distillery! The atmosphere is electric and giddy when you first walk in and I was greeted by the lovely ladies at the counter. I was helped by Stacey. She was 5 star. She let my wife and I try anything we wanted to and actually encouraged us to try more. The rum is fantastic and you can tell right away it is made with love in small batches. We went with the Pina colada made right there and it was impressive and not weak at all. I would suggest doing the free tour and enjoy a Pina colada yourself.

Make sure to ask for a receipt. They added an extra drink to our order and seemed shady when we asked about it. They didn't want to void the transaction and ended up just giving us cash as a refund. Drinks were good though. Edit: Dropped to a 1 star from 2 after the owner response. To clarify why it felt shady and not just being negative. We were the only people in the building so def not busy. When we asked for a printed receipt we had to be a bit pushy about it. After seeing the double charge and asking about it she didn't seem surprised. She offered a voucher for a drink instead of a refund. Then she said the void could take a few days and I said I was fine with that. Then said she needs a manager to do the transaction. Then after going to the machine for a minute she came back and asked if she can just give us cash. It all just felt too avoidant. Not trying to be negative, I understand mistakes happen and some people aren't great at fixing their mistakes. It gets better with practice.

Front service staff was alright, stone faced, and not very informative. The tour is free every 15 minutes and you wait out on the side of the bldg. Just ask the store staff about it and they’ll give you the tickets. They let you sample 100+ proof rum that’s very smooth. The tour and tour guide was informative on the distillery process.

Free tour. You learn a lot about rum and get to sample different flavors at the end. They have a bar with drinks for purchase. You can take a drink with you while you tour and when you leave as well. Many varieties for sale by the bottle and additionally some other items in the bar/gift shop. There is metered street parking if you are lucky enough to snag a spot, $5/hr.

Best frozen Pina Colada on the island! You can sample any of the 10+ varieties of rum, which can be a fun way to spend 15 minutes exploring which flavor you prefer. You can get a frozen Pina Colada with a rum topper which was surprisingly amazing. Free tours of the rum factory are available also.

Very cool distillery with great history!

I really enjoyed the distillery tour and our guide, however, I found the rum base a little harsh on the palette. I do appreciate the rum aged in wine barrels which is definitely unique. The blonde, female rum-tender could’ve been a bit more welcoming and attentive to guests.
