Let me paint you a picture. You’re on Orcas Island, one of those places where time slows down just enough for you to catch your breath and really soak in life. And tonight I found myself at a restaurant that’s been around for a while but recently got a serious upgrade. The kind of upgrade that makes you sit up a little straighter, savor a little longer, and leave feeling like you’ve experienced something special. The masterminds behind this transformation are a trio that’s got the island buzzing—Executive Chef Ana Timmis, her brother Bryn Timmis, who’s a magician with desserts, and their right-hand, Sous Chef Kavyn Pacheco. These three aren’t just new to the island; they’ve brought with them a world of experience from France to the States, and let me tell you, it shows. The evening kicked off with a dish that set the tone perfectly: marinated beets, green onion chèvre, and black pepper granola. Fresh, vibrant, and so damn good, it was like a breath of fresh air on a plate. Then came the Tuna Crudo with peach, cucumber, tarragon, and fried capers. Man, this dish was summer on a plate—so light, so delicate, it practically melted in your mouth. And those capers had just the right amount of kick to keep things interesting. When it came time for the main courses, we didn’t hold back. First up, seared local mushrooms with miso white beans, zucchini, vache, and a piece of halibut that was flaky and tender—just the way it should be. But the dish that had everyone talking was the cavatelli in chicken parmesan brodo with herb pistou and pickled squash. You could see it on people’s faces—one bite, and their shoulders loosened. It was like hitting that perfect note in a song, where everything just clicks. Then there was the lamb and potato cake, served with a birria sauce, lime crema, pepitas, pickled onion, and cilantro. It was an burst of flavors that somehow all played together in perfect harmony. And the pork chop with peach mole, grits, and corn nuts… let’s just say it redefined what a pork chop can be. Here’s the thing about Orcas Island - it’s got its share of good eats, but a lot of it leans on the fried side, heavy on the comfort, light on the fresh. But not this place. This meal was like a breath of fresh air—satisfying without weighing you down, full of flavors that made you feel alive. Dessert was no slouch either. We shared a fig leaf panna cotta with marionberry compote and candied almond that was just sweet enough, balanced perfectly. And the lemon shortbread with summer berry jam and lavender crème fraîche was pure bliss. Paired with jasmine tea or a strong cup of coffee, it was the kind of dessert that wraps up the evening just right. The whole experience took about two hours, but it flew by in the best way possible. The atmosphere had the right mix of elegant and relaxed, with soft lighting that made the harbor views as the sun set over the mountains the perfect backdrop to an incredible meal. But what really stood out was how smoothly everything flowed. The staff moved like a well-rehearsed band, each one playing their part just right. You could feel the chemistry, the energy—like they were all in sync, and it made the whole experience that much better. If you find yourself on Orcas Island, do yourself a favor and book a table at this spot while they’re still around before they start getting all the awards they deserve. The whole thing will be an experience, a moment in time that’ll stay with you long after the last bite. Bravo, Chef Ana and crew, bravo.

Very charming spot, we had suite 4 which was very nice, quality king bed added bonus! Nice view deck and having the restaurant on site a BIG plus, excellent food !!! Not a big menu but everything done well and clearly fresh ingredients. Delightful experience. Not a complaint, but be aware if you come by boat like us that the marina is a walk around the harbor … we did learn by the time we left to pull up at the public dock to load/unload as that’s a shorter jaunt to Kingfish. There is taxi service to Eastsound, as there is absolutely nothing else in Westound than the marina and Kingfish, which is great if that’s what your after, quiet & solitude. Delightful spot overall !!

New Chef and crew. Doing a great job! My husband and I finally had a chance to try the new chef last week and we have a crew of friends going again this week. We started with the beet salad w/ whipped goat cheese and the halibut crudo. Both delicious and well prepared. The crudo was not cut a typical way but I like her spin on it making it her own. We then ordered the Potato and lamb and I had the pasta w/ sausage and kale sauce. Both were spectacular. My pasta was perfectly cooked with great toothsome texture and the sauce perfectly complemented it. My husband loved the lamb dish as the tastes were of Sheppard pie which he loves. Dessert we shared the buttermilk flan w/ black pepper granola and is was wonderful. We love taking our little boat to the dock because it’s a 10 min run. We sat on the outside deck, weather was perfect

This review is for the Kingfish restaurant. We dined here last night with a group of 5. We were attentively greeted and seated in a booth table for our reservation time. Their casual fine dining space overlooks West Sound. Great atmosphere for a venue set in a remote area and waitress was super friendly. Most dishes we ordered were flavorful and well presented. House pappardelle was exceptional. Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, firm and chewy. Little heavy on the sauce but with a good balance of savory, pork sausage and kale pesto. Pork chop came out to be pork loin cut but regardless was juicy and tender. This dish came with rhubarbecue sauce with wilted greens and paired nicely with the pork. Spiced halibut was delightful. Tuna crudo, on the other hand, fell short on the texture and shape. We paired our dishes with a bottle of Tempranillo from Orcas project, which was delicious.

We really enjoyed the food here. The pasta is absolutely perfect. The service is impeccable. The wine service is excellent! We had the sugar-snapped peas for an app and then the Buccatini with an amazing pomodoro with pancetta. The pancetta did not overpower the dish, which takes good pancetta and honestly a passion from the chef to balance the saltiness perfectly. We finished with the beignets with a blueberry compote. What an amazing dinner! I would have preferred a cocktail over wine or beer, but the service staff wouldn’t be able to keep up with drink demands for craft cocktails. I think in keeping with their low-prep for drinks, they could have a barrel-aged Negroni, old fashioned, or Manhattan pre-made, and gin & tonic is quick and easy.

This is a great place to stay! Our room was clean, smelled good and was a good size and a great balcony to sit and take in the beautiful scenery. The only disappointment was not being able to dine at the restaurant (couldn’t get a reservation). I was able to smell and see the food. The owner is very clearly not a cook, he’s a chef and it shows. My wife and I have already decided when we come back it will be to stay here and dine here

This review is for the restaurant only, the food was fantastic, flavorful and delectable. The tomato poached cod over polenta was so good. Buttery, savory and delicious. We also had the apple crisp which is served with a sharp cheddar ice cream. The dessert was amazing, keep up the good work.

A miss for us this time. When you go to 4.8-star place, you expect to enjoy every bit on your plate. All three mains as sub-par: - Over-seasoned burger - Salmon roe pasta - fresh pasta is too thin and mushy, with strong roe flavor, no attempt to make it balanced - Bouillabaisse - OK. If you need a guaranteed excellent fine dining experience, go to the proven places. Here it is not consistent sometimes.

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it. The staff was SUPER helpful and magically got the ferry reservations for us while I missed the booking opportunity. Unfortunately I perfectly dodged their restaurant schedule. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Will have to save it for the next time. The only little problem is our room was warm, even with ceiling fan and an extra fan running, we still had to leave windows open at nights, also a way for bugs to fly in. Other than that, everything was as good as expected.

Such a memorable stay! We were sad to leave this amazing place. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, clean and have mesmerizing views of the water. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Raymond, the owner, went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The only regret is that we ran out of time and didn't have the chance to try the amazing restaurant and Raymond's famous duck. Cannot wait to come back!

We are on a 2.5 week road trip through Washington (Olympic Peninsula, San Juan Islands and North Cascades) and out of the 6 hotels we've stayed at so far, Kingfish Inn was our absolute favorite. We stayed in the Spruce King Suite for 2 nights, it was very private with water views and has it's own balcony, very comfortable and spacious. We wish we could've extended our stay for one more night but they were booked (understandably) and we wish the restaurant was open during our stay. We hope to come back to Orcas someday and Kingfish will be our number one choice.

I was blown away by how incredible the restaurant is at Kingfish. Every bite, from appetizers to dessert, was fantastic. The atmosphere is beautiful, very cozy with a great view of the water. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the chef came out to check in on everyone which was lovely. Don’t miss this place, definitely make a reservation ahead of time as the dining room is very small.

We absolutely loved this place! Utterly charming, inviting, cozy, warm and clean. Attention to our comfort was obvious. We stayed in Suite #1 and had a lovely private patio to enjoy the view of the water. We loved it so much we made reservations to come in the Fall, even before we left the Island. We will definitely include making reservations at their restaurant when we come back.

The restaurant is utterly delicious and offered us such a lovely dining experience. We started with a bright, fresh ceviche, an astoundingly good duck liver mousse paired with crunchy grilled toast and an amazing radicchio-apple salad, and fried green tomatoes fresh from the garden served with a tangy sauce. My partner and I both had handmade pastas, mine with salmon roe and hers with pork ragu. Both dishes satisfied with their rich depth of flavor. The restaurant (and inn) sit right on the sound with lovely views of the water, the building and interior is so charming and comfortable, and Chef Ray is so gregarious and welcoming. It was truly the nicest dinner we'd had together in a long time. Highly recommended!

Not sure how this place exists, it boggles the mind. I was expecting overpriced food that was phoned in because on Orcas island options are limited, especially in the winter. The price to quality is the best I have ever seen. The Chef even came out to greet us at our table and you could see the passion he had. The value is stellar and the little touchs made it a truly exceptional dining experience.

Nice place. Good view. Looks like our room was missing fire alarm as well as having issues with tv not plugged in to power strip, and power strip turned off also. Made for 10 min of trying to guess the problems and fix. Restaurant below only takes reservations so had to drive across the island for take out dinner. Little irritants that knocked it down.

The one drawback of the Kingfish is the difficulty of getting reservations! Everything else is great! We took a 5pm reservation because it was all we could get. We arrived at the West Sound county dock by dinghy. We arrived early and found the kitchen and dining room teams discussing the nights menu and prepping for the evening. We were seated promptly and greeted by the chef before our server welcomed us to the restaurant and introduced us to the menu. Our server, Jenny, was fantastic and guided us through the menu and wine selections. We tried the oysters then duck mousse as appetizers. Both were great. Next, we both ordered the Cioppino. Fantastic! We didn’t save room for desert however they sounded great. We have reservations next week and are looking forward to it! It is great to see that despite staffing challenges, some establishments still know how to make their clients feel special. Thanks Kingfish!

A locals perspective...a really busy August night and the hostess went out of her way to get us a table for my 16 year old and I. The pork Bolognese was perfectly seasoned , the best I've ever had , the outdoor terrace was a perfect place to enjoy a meal and a conversation , West Sound is beautiful.The Chef is obviously focused on local sourcing of sustainable ingredients and it is evident in what he plates.I would highly recommend and I will be back.

While I realize the west sound burger was admittedly not the most adventurous choice on the menu, I must say I was pleasantly surprised by what I was served. A truly stellar experience really. Informal check-in practice, but I still got to meet one of the owners as he is also the chef at the restaurant and was getting ready for business. My room was right over their outdoor dining area, and I had my window open. Heard him speaking with some of his customers, and he is definitely super friendly and customer oriented. Room had one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. When I arrived, the ceiling fan and a portable fan were going to help keep the room cooler. Nice selection of snacks, coffees, and teas. Their website said my room would have a shared microwave, but to my surprise there was also one in my room. The fridge was very quiet. Beautiful view of the bay from the room. Lots of windows which could be opened. No noise from the other rooms/guests. Really a great stay, and I would definitely stay there again. For those who need WiFi, the speed and reliability were really great. Absolutely NO issues. One note is that their parking lot is small and shared with the restaurant, so if you head out at night, you may have to get creative with parking when you return. Nothing they can do about it. Just something to be aware of.

What a great place, we attended dinner service and despite a small double booking issues which was promptly resolved we had no complaints. The dining room was very comfortable and was easy enough to have a conversation. The staff was exceedingly friendly and accommodating to any needs, including asking for our desert to go so we could catch the last ferry of the day. The food was stellar in both presentation and taste, rest assured we will be visiting again on our next trip to Orcas Island.

This is by far, one of the best experiences I've ever had. If I could rate 6 out of 5, I would gladly do so. My wife and I were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and wanted a relaxing experience for the weekend. The Inn: I booked the "Queen Water View Suite" via Airbnb in the Kingfish Inn for one night. The suite was incredibly clean and cozy. Queen-size bed, full bathroom with soaps and towels, fridge and Keurig coffee maker (pods included), cups & utensils/wine opener, assorted complimentary snack, and a cute fireplace. These amenities only added to the comfort of the room but the icing on the cake was the view of the West Sound. Waking up to the sunrise over the bay was absolutely amazing. In addition to this, the Main Street (downtown) is only 10-12 minutes away (full of local coffee shops, restaurants, and gift shops). The Restaurant: Upon checking-in to the Inn, I was met by "Ray" who not only is the owner of the restaurant/inn, he's the executive chef. He graciously, gave me a quick tour of the restaurant and fit my wife and I in for an evening dinner reservation. It was so cool being able to walk from upstairs down to the restaurant for dinner. We sat out on the covered patio that overlooks the bay where there are warm blankets and space heaters to make you feel extra cozy. ALL ITEMS ON THE MENU ARE LOCALLY-SOURCED! We started with a local bottle of Orcas Project Temperino Wine (delicious) followed with the "Lum Farm Goat Tomme" (Red beet lavash, fig jam, toasted walnuts) as a starter (A-M-A-Z-I-N-G). I ordered the Linguini Carbonara (Skagit River uncured bacon, organic egg, HOMEMADE NOODLES) and my wife had the Sablefish w/ Red Risotto (Pan seared, beef risotto, apples, roasted brussels sprouts). Both were absolutely phenomenal. To finish the course, I ordered the Apple Crumble with house-made vanilla ice cream. Ray (exec chef/owner) then came to our table with a "Theo Chocolate Pudding" and wished us a happy 10-year anniversary. I have eaten and many restaurants around the world and can honestly say this was the best dining experience I've ever had. Thank you Ray and team for making our anniversary so special. I really can't explain how much of a treat this was.

Loved our stay here at the Historic Inn. We stayed in suite #2 which offered amazing views of the water and small marina. Golden hour was especially beautiful 😍! The hosts Raymond and Holly are superb and really go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and special. Great communication and cleanliness. The restaurant was closed during our stay due to covid but it should be open now. Looking forward to coming back in the summer and trying chef Raymond's delicious food! Great place to stay on the island.

Oh my goodness where to start on this amazing little establishment! Everything we ordered was absolutely divinely delish. Excellent service, Chef Raymond not only serves our entrees but happily signed our one time use menu for our Anniversary Dinner (delayed from April 2020). As we were outside waiting on our cab to pick us up for our return trip to Outlook Inn to our room he poked his head out the door to wish us once again a Happy Anniversary and invite us to return. Lovely experience all round at this quaint establishment begun in 1902. We will definitely return!

Our party enjoyed a nice private room looking at the water. Our waitress and possibly the owner were very gracious and the food was delicious. Most tender piece of fillet I’ve ever had. The hand cut fries were wonderful and some sort of kale and spinach Au gratin. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and the hospitality was terrific.

A wonderful evening of food and hospitality. Raymond and Holly are genuinely kind and passionate. The staff is top notch. Alison treated us like we were the only patrons in the house. We started with squash blossoms with chevre and a light fresh tomato sauce. We then dined on the pork chop with exquisite mashed potatoes and braised cabbage and the Lum Farm lamb bolognese with house made rigatoni pasta that was perfectly al dente. All finished with a delightful combined bowl of sweet corn and blackberry ice cream in a stewed plum sauce. Absolutely perfect evening and meal. Highly recommend this fine establishment. Slaintè.

I almost never bother to write reviews, but I just had to come and leave 5 starts for the Kingfish Inn restaurant. My fiancé and I ordered take out, which means that the quality is generally already expected to be not be great since the food has been boxed up and the presentation just isn’t there - but both of our dishes were so good! I have honestly never had such an amazing fettuccine primavera (the vegetables were the perfect size/shape and cooked to perfection), the ceviche was delicious, and the trifle we had for dessert was also really yummy. Hats off to the chef!

Finally— someone has reopened in this dynamite location. A beautiful harbor view and charming building present an inviting spot to visit. We dined in the restaurant with family. While not large, the space is cozy, warm and the noise level low. Service was attentive and timely— nice to not have overbearing waitstaff! The menu reflects the abundance local producers raise. The geoduck soup was tasty with a nice kick, the goose very flavorful with an excellent stuffing. We enjoyed the mushroom toastie— I will return just for this item. The halibut was well prepared and the seafood gumbo too. The owner and chef have a real winner for locals and visitors alike. We will return:-)!

The newly reopened resturant is Amazing! We were clued in by a friend that the Kingfish had opened with a new chef. The four of us had dinner here and it was wonderful. Great view of West Sound and the marina. The geoduck ceveche, seafood stew, the halibut, and the steak were all first rate! We will be back!

Cozy in with decent comfortable amenities. Beautiful views make this place a delight. We visited in the off season so the cafe below was closed and while it was sunny it was very cold and windy. The island lost power for nearly the entire day we were there so make sure you have a backup plan for food and entertainment.

Stayed in the Alder Room for a couple nights. Lovely room with thoughtful details and amenities like complementary snacks and drinks made it feel like it was completely our own place. The privacy and comfort that was emphasized here really made it feel like we lived on the island even if it was just for a few days. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who is considering visiting Orcas Island.

The room was spacious and very clean. It was wonderful dto spread out after a long day of traveling. The complimentary snacks and beverages were pleasently unexpected. Our room faced the Bay, so we received gentle songs by the sea. We did not eat at the restaurant so I have no opinion. I would definitely recommend staying overnight as a guest.
