I love this place. A go too for anything they serve. They always have availability it seems, and the wait is never longer than 20 minutes! The food is sooo good!!

I've never had better sashimi anywhere else. The only thing I can say that isn't a completely positive is that it was very dark where we were seated.

I’ve been there many times and it’s my favorite Asian restaurant in Portland. Delicious food, pleasant environment, reasonable prices. I've tried fried rice, sushi and sashimi, hibachi, Poké bowl, pad thai and they were all tasty.

We were there for a early dinner so we were really able to chat with our waitress and our hibachi master--vert nice and a lot of fun. Delicious food, beautiful atmosphere and an overall great time. Watch out--those scorpion bowls go down easy and sneak up on you fast! 😂

5⭐️ BEST ASIAN RESTUARENT IN PORTLAND Me and my wife were feeling to try some Asian food. We always wanted to visit this place but never find time . We are glad finally we came there. The ambiance is wonderful. The lighting , smell, setup everything is nice. Tables are set up nice so there is privacy too. Now comes the food. They have hibachi and sit in option. We for now just wanted to try to normal foods. They have lot of options but end up ordering Chicken Satay. A classic shrimp tempura roll and from grill we ordered Szechuan Crispy Dried Shredded. Every item tasted very very good. Service is very good and very welcoming crew. We plan to go for Hibachi soon. Will review about that again. One thing to mention Price seems very reasonable as a nice ambiance Restuarent .

Food was served HOT. The price for the lunch special was good. I got General Tso's Chicken which came with a small soup and small salad and they were good. The atmosphere was very nice. The service was very good too. The menu was pretty big. Lunch specials there was just a few but good choices. I'll definitely be back to try them again. Lots of parking.

Never expected to find a place this good. Will become a frequent flyer.

The highlight was the gentleman that cooked our hibachi food, he was a hoot - he definitely kept us entertained. However, the first thing I noticed about the restaurant was how dark it was, a bit too dark. As far as the food I found it to be a bit too salty for my liking.

This is one of our go to places when we want to celebrate. One end is a bar. And a sushi bar. The other end is hibachi and dining in the middle. I've been eating here for over 10 years. My favorite dish is volcano chicken. It comes out in a pot heated by Sterno. We also.

I love Chad. Best bartender on earth. If he leaves Kon I'll have a new place to eat on Thursdays. I placed a take out order because I didn't want to spend an hour at the bar. I was exhausted. I gave the blond twenty-something my name and told him I was early for a take out order. He took my name. Chad served me my hot saki as soon as I sat down. 40 minutes later there was no sign of my order. Chad had to tell me it was at the front. The SAME kid who took my NAME, told me i should have told him I was there........

What can I say? I just love the light up bar at Kon. Also, they make the best Cosmos! The bartenders are wonderful. The food is great.

Seriously one of the best dining experiences my wife and I have had in a long time. Our server was fantastic. Very attentive and quick. Food was delish. Sushi and hibachi. Highly recommend. Hopefully you have the same server we did. Pink hair.

Went for the hibachi grill for a birthday get together. Food was great. Service was slow but was very busy. Prices I'd say a bit high but a place I'd try again. Parking was slim pickings.

We ate at Kon Asian Bistro Feb. 21, 2024 (our second time here in a couple years) and had a great meal and drinks! We got a drink at the bar while waiting for our hibachi table, both drink very good! We got to our seats, placed drink orders, then our app order, then our meal order. Our Drinks came quickly, the salad came out but we waited for the soup. Our apps (sushi) came out, both of which were so good! We had the special and it was one of the best sushi dishes I've ever had! Our hibachi cook came and started cooking and then we got our soup. Not a huge deal, just seemed like we had a slow waitress. The other side of our table sat after us and got all their food first. Still, not a big deal. We had a great hibachi chef cook for us. The food was all delicious! We ordered dessert and got our check. again, much later then the other side of the table (with a different waitress). We noticed when our kids (9 & 10) got their meat for their meals they seemed to get rather large portions, so at the end we asked if they got kids size or adult. When we looked at the bill, the price for our kids seemed high so we asked our waitress and she told us unless we specify they want a kids size portion they automatically give them adult size. We questioned why they did that, and in the rudest tone she said "We do not assume the age of your child". So I said "You just called them a child, so you know they ARE in fact, a child, so again why do you assume they want an adult size?" She had another rude remark (more her tone and attitude now that we had an issue) so my husband handed her a credit card and paid the bill. We did ask to speak to the manager. The manager was more then friendly and apologized for her tone. She did explain that she was very new but the attitude was uncalled for. I double checked with the manager about if they automatically give children an adult meal and she said they do, unless we specifically ask for a child meal. We said we had no issue paying for the meal, we were given the meal we paid for but thought it was a little confusing that when a child orders they need to specifically order a child meal. The manager also said they ask the waiters to repeat back and specify we want adult for a child, which the waitress did not do. We were very happy with the managers response and time she took to talk to us. We did make sure the hibachi chef was getting his tip/pay regardless of what we tipped our waitress. He gets a cut from her bill (which is 10% of the bill, he gets. Not part of the tip). The manager also gave us a $25 gift card, which we did not need or expect. We just wanted to make it known how the waitress treated us. The meal was delicious as usual and we will go back. Just make sure we specify "Kids Meal" for our children in the future!

Grilled salmon was far too salty, unbearably so. Sushi was fine. Waitress was lovely, food runner either hadn't been trained or hates his job. Very busy, big bar scene, probably wouldn't return based on food.

I need to write this review, hopefully the customer I am discussing does actually write a review and this will just stand on it's own. Last night my family and I dined at Kon, after a hockey game. We arrived and were promptly seated, and menus were soon delivered along with water. We ordered our food and had a great delicious dinner with all 5 members of my party happy and well fed. As we were waiting for our check a women who clearly had a bad day entered the door. She then proceeded to tell the hostess, how 'she was in food service and the hostesses response to her was unacceptable' My ears perked up at this point, and I listened more intently, apparently the hostess failed to say 'have a good night' loud enough for the woman to hear as the woman was leaving. This annoyed the woman enough that she went out and then banged on the window, walked back in and asked to speak to a manager and then proceeded to tell the hostess that she was bad at her job and bad at customer service. The hostess was busy with another task when they left. She politely and promptly told us good night as we were leaving. If you have read this far, and see a 1 start review for bad service, it's probably this woman I am speaking of. This is a great restaurant and don't hesitate to have a great meal and enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant.

BEST sushi in Portland, ME. The vibe of the restaurant is nice, the staff is attentive and you can't beat their sushi anywhere else in Maine. The hibachi looks good too.

Good food and very entertaining eating at the Hibachi. We have been here before and enjoyed it very much. Our chef this day was not up to par with the other chefs we had as he could not flick the food into our mouths as the other chefs always do.

Pad Thai is Chinese Fusion version

The restaurant is not generally considered a “sushi” restaurant, that said their sushi is really good. We dined at lunch time, other than slow service the experience was positive. They offer some specialty rolls that are excellent - ones I have not found elsewhere in the Portland area. Convenient parking is a plus.

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this place. The servers greeted us with a smile. The food came quickly, and as we tasted the food, all we could say were high praises. Well done! Keep up the good work!

Fun place, can host large parties. Food was great, a bit salty in pad Thai but the lime took care of that. Sushi and tempura were delicious. Server was wonderful for all 20+ of us. Will come back!

This place is a Definate repeat. I’ll doing business in Portland. We happened onto this place. Really a very nice find. Clean place. Great food. Ordered a few apps. and one main course. The lettuce wraps are delicious and fresh. Look forward to going again on our next trip.

Love going to this restaurant. Kon Asian never disappoints. Food, service, atmosphere always great. Love getting the summer rolls, Portland rolls, tuna and avocado rolls, spicy Korean chicken wings and the vegetable pad tai. Will definitely be going again.

Do not leave until you check your items. I got completely ripped off, I got a sushi trio combo and a crazy tuna roll. The crazy tuna roll was completely over fried and practically inedible and I only received two of the other rolls, so no trio at all. And they didn’t include any sauce I paid extra for.

The food is amazing and the staff is amazing and great. The chef is an awesome cook. 100 percent would recommend coming to this restaurant. Thanks for the awesome food.

Went here with friends to try the hibachi. The decor is awesome! The experience was so fun and the food was quite nice. The staff was accommodating to our friend who is vegan as well!

Entertaining environment to enjoy a good meal. Chef's participation in the meal prep and interactions with the group makes all the difference. Food is good but not exceptional. Overall impression was above average. Pricing was comparable with other restaurants. Drinks were overpriced given liquor was mostly bottom shelf tier brands.

The food was good but the bathrooms were uncomfortably dirty. My wife and I will not go back and there is a restaurant around the Mall that serves a lot of the same cuisine but is much cleaner!

This place is great except for the food, unfortunately. The bar tender is very charismatic and makes the club like atmosphere even better. Just wish the food was a little better quality.

Best hibachi/ sushi around 10/10

Well I got the volcano chicken and good food poisoning so that was cool, got an iron stomach so that was surprising lol. Been there before and the foods always been great, so it was a one off thing, still though it was worth mentioning though.

Food was good, drinks also pretty nice, but a automatic 20% gratuity, on top of; asking for a tip after the cards been charged with the tip amount your business preselected, is a little wild. Came out for a birthday celebration, 6 of us, 3 pairs of couples. My couple, was charged a almost 20$ tip, ontop of being asked for one when the card came back. Server looked visibly bothered when they heard us notice this and talk about itX I get it for parties that are one large group, but we are 3 small sections… expecting in essence a 40% tip from each pair is pretty wild given that we had beer spilled on our table and were missing utensils. Unfortunately one of our groups didn’t catch this till after signing and ended up leaving even more after the fact. Love the food, love the drinks, but service and systems in place need some work, and this is coming from someone who manages a kitchen fulltime… I get food service, but there’s ways to go about things without leaving a bad taste in your customers mouths. Automatic gratuity should also be mentioned at time of service, which, it wasn’t. Nor was it noticed to be printed anywhere.

Super delicious and the presentation of the plates was great. The cocktails were good too. I didn't do hibachi but the sushi was fantastic. The decor is a lot but it's nice. Feels a little Las Vegas, which can be good if that's your thing. The night we went, the crowd definitely leaned on the younger, college side.

Food and drinks are great. My only beef is that they don't let our daughter who is 20 order from the kids menu if we are in the restaurant. I know, I know she is well over the cut off but she has to eat smaller portions as she has gastro paresis. We pay extra and the food just goes to waste. If we order online it is not an issue.

The best place for a great lunch and good drink the Mongolian mai tai is worth a try

Food was delicious. Waitress was friendly just slow. Try not to sit right where the statue is. The breeze from the door can be frigid if it's cold outside.

Attended a rather large birthday party, midweek and near closing time. Even with a couple boisterous individuals we were all treated with kindness and respect by all staff. Atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the decor was wonderfully unique.

Not going to say it’s bad, however - we typically go to Kobe specifically for Hibachi - They were full so we decided to try Kon Asian Bistro. Personally I felt the food has a good taste and was well seasoned, however my wife thought it was bland. One of my favorite things about Kobe is we usually have enough leftovers for an entire meal. Here I got maybe 3/4th a cup of rice - noodles are almost $6 extra if you want them. The Waiter was non-existent, I sat with an empty drink for 30 minutes and was not asked if I wanted a refill. All in all, it was OK - I’d love to support a more local establishment over a chain, but it’s hard to do with vastly different dining experiences.

Really enjoyed our visit. We did dining room, and got a bunch of appetizers and some sushi rolls. Really enjoyed the beef negemaki. Oh and I really liked the bit of seaweed salad they added to my ginger salad! Yummy! Ambiance was nice, just maybe a very tad bit dark. Overall good visit though!

You can smell the food from outside and it is glorious. Amazing hibachi and great sushi selection, our waitress was friendly and immediately helpful. The atmosphere was very chill but not so formal as to be unwelcoming for casual dining. Prices were much better than expected! Lunch bento is very reasonably priced.

I found the Hibachi experience to have been pretty good. Probably a B- if I had to give it a grade. The chef did do some fun tricks but I have been to other Hibachi places where the chef performed more elaborate tricks and joked with the crowd a lot more. He did a little bit of spatula flipping and catching and the onion volcano. The chef did joke around a little bit and shot Saki around the table. I was slightly disappointed he didn't catch anything in his hat. The Chef's cooking was great and it showed in how delicious the food was. I thought the value was very good as this dinner was cheaper the other restaurants usually are and we got a show out of it. Overall a great experience and I recommend Kon for families, couples, dates, etc. Last note on Kon if the owners are reading this review. When arriving for my reservation I had to wait for a bit which was totally fine, but its kind of weird that the entryway is so directly in view of the dining room. You feel as though you are standing to close to the tables around the rock garden. I think it makes waiting customers and dining guests both uncomfortable. Maybe you could add some fashionable privacy partition or something. Just a thought.

Food is solid, can get a little loud, but a fun place.

Had a tea-time meal here while staying at the motel just behind. Good selection on the menu and a reasonable selection of beers. Friendly and helpful staff. Quite busy for a midweek, so must be very popular!

This was by far my favorite restaurant. Classy and affordable. The service and food were top notch. We had a part of 25+ and they handled it with perfection. I will definitely be coming back!!

Great way to introduce the kids to Asian food. The hibachi experience was a lot of fun for them, and the quality of the food was not half bad. Much better than I was expecting!

They got a little bit of everything and they pack it up well. I've never eaten in the dining room, but take out is solid. Fair prices and good value for money. Eat here, it's the right thing to do.
