I stopped in for a late breakfast while biking through. Excellent breakfast, coffee drinks, and baked goods.

WOW!!!! What an amazing place!!! We enjoyed our personal anniversary dinner so very much. How considerate of you to go above and beyond. We really appreciate all that you did. The food was DEFINITELY worth the trip. Homemade buns for the burgers, fresh tomatoes out of the garden, and looking forward to trying the fresh made cookies. May you be blessed in your business and sweet family.

Do yourself a favor, go out of your way, and stop to eat here. Top notch service only surpassed by the quality of the food. Claims of the best burger in the valley are true, but their breakfast deserves just as much credit. I’d give them 6 stars if I could.

Wonderful little place on your way to Penitente. Delicious breakfast and amazing fresh doughnuts on Thursday mornings. Very friendly owners! Be sure to stop here next time through!

Delicious good. Unfortunately we got there around 12 and breakfast ends at 10 am. Please consider serving breakfast until later I know 12 is already lunchtime but some of us will never catch the worm. I came out here from South Fork the drive in was through a dirt road and the views are nice. We were served by a young girl she didn't greet us and handed us the menu, but throughout she warmed up and I was served great food and everything was provided even while the place filled up. They also had a nice shop with various items I purchased fresh eggs, dates and cookies and they had lots of other things. I got the turkey bacon ranch on sourdough it was very good as it is but I stole the husband's lettuce and tomatoes from his burger and that took it up further. The husband got a basic cheeseburger and it was very good. Both the dishes came with fries and they were good as well. The sweet tea is good here like back in the south.

Always have a great experience and the food and service is awesome. My favorite place for breakfast or lunch.

We had the "La Garita" and "Huevos Verdes" burgers. I didn't ask, but I'm betting it was locally sourced beef, and homemade buns. The green chilies had great flavor and the home style fries were very tasty. A short detour off US Hwy 285 will get you to a great lunch.

This is a most remarkable and unique place. One of a kind. The young manager is very capable and diligent. The decor is "historic old western". Setting is rural. It is very near penitenti Canyon, a spectacular and remarkable hiking and rock climbing venue. The food is tasty. The wait staff is down home friendly. We have been here multiple times and have never been disappointed. There is no place quite like this anywhere else.

This little place is a hole in the wall. Went by it several times before stopping in. Now it is my go to for breakfast. Eggs, sourdough bread, ice cream, I've gotten it all.

Great small town spot as we headed out of the BLM canyon. Had a good panini for lunch and generous scoop of ice cream. My only suggestion would be to have some veggie burgers as an option for the rare vegetarian coming by…

Really neat spot for lunch after hiking in the area. Had their La Garita burger. Fries were excellent. Handcut and fried in lard. I enjoyed these more than the burger which was OK. Service was friendly and hospitable. General store had some nice local craft products.

Burgers were divine. Sisters were great conversationalist. Neat history.

Green Chile Smothered breakfast burrito is worth the trip. Homemade bread smothered in butter. Good coffee. Reasonably priced. Checks all the boxes.

I ordered two breakfast platters and they were delicious. Cute place very homey feel. I would definitely order from there again and well worth the drive and time. I called in 22 mins before I showed up. Got there it was ready got back to where I am staying , and it was still good and warm. My tummy agrees!!!!!!!!

We were passing through to get to Mesa Verde from the Rocky Mountains and the family was hungry. Iced tea was one of the best that we had in a very long time. The hamburger with homemade rolls and hand cut fries were very delicious. If we lived around here, this would our spot to go to. Thank you for your hospitality. I know we came in towards closing time for the kitchen and we sincerely appreciate you for keeping it open for us.

Amazing homemade ice cream! Just what we needed after riding Penitente, a pair of freshly made sandwiches and mint chip.

Truly a hidden gem! We had the best experience stopping for breakfast, firewood, ice, and most importantly the homemade cookies. Eric & daughters were wonderful, I’m excited for the next time we’re rolling through!

Hidden Gem! La Garita is a WONDERFUL place to stop for basic necessities, helpful information, and a hearty homemade breakfast, especially if you are camping in Penitente Canyon. I could not be happier to have found this place and will definitely be stopping by every time I camp in the area. Eric and his family are so kind and helpful and make a mean breakfast! ** They DO carry ice, firewood, and those types of essentials. Support a local family business! Oh and they have THE MOST DELICIOUS HOMEMADE COOKIES. We threw ours over the fire for a nice gooey nighttime treat. :)

My favorite place and people in the valley by far ,thair is no question that this place has good customers service.There food is very high quality and thair store is a favorite of mine. It is always very clean and spacious for the customers.If there were more places like this in the valley I believe that would be the only thing that would make the valley better. It's nice to feel at home when I'm here and I always will recommend this place as a good stop to eat and meet part of the community.

Great find. La Garita Burger was very good. Worth going off the highway to eat here. Enjoyed the food, the building and decor, the music, and history in the area. Will definitely return each time we go down to the San Luis Valley.

If you're in the area you should stop in and grab a bite to eat at the restaurant or get a snack from the little shop at the Trading Post.

Home cooked meal taste.. Cheese burger was really good. French fries (fried cubed potatoes) were very tasty! Clean large resturant. A little store for last minute items. Water, sweets, local honey, Etc.ect.

We went to get breakfast here and it was AMAZING! Fried eggs, sausage, bacon, and realy good finely grated hashbrowns. Great, friendly service and great food at a chill spot, what more could you ask for!

Always a favorite when we travel to the San Luis valley.

I stopped in for ice while camping in the Rio Grande National Forest and decided to have a salad after seeing their fantastic and fresh salad bar. The salad was superb. My sister and I also had iced tea and shared a homemade brownie for dessert topped with warm chocolate syrup that was wonderful. The owners are present and run the place and provided excellent friendly personal service. This is a treasure that shouldn't be missed if traveling between Saguache and Monte Vista on US 285 or visiting the nearby attractions.

Under new ownership due to illness. However the new owners haven't missed a beat. Still the BEST DARNED HAMBURGERS in the Valley.

The La Garita Trading Post has great food. My favorites are the smothered burrito for breakfast - huge and tasty! And the burgers are always great.
