The best ceviche in San Francisco with great ocean views. Amazing drinks and always fun. A little pricey but well worth it

Too expensive. The location is really good but otherwise nothing justifies prices they charge, especially that portions are small.

We went for date night at La Mar and had one of the best experiences! I loved the view from the patio, and the ambience. The restaurant was hopping! on a Thursday night, a rarity these days in SF. All the food was extraordinary. The empanadas and the cebiches were my favorite, we ordered the samplers for both. I had the veggie options and my husband had the other. We also got a vegan appetizer which was a chips/dip Peruvian style which I couldn’t get enough of. All the desserts looked wonderful, we only tried the chocolate cake but will be back here again to try more!

The service was stellar. We three were seated quickly at a table outside with a view of San Francisco Bay. We ordered a bottle of Still Water and a crab dish that served 3. Ample portions, some was left over to take home. The food is freshly prepared, beautiful presentation and delicious. Prices are little high.

Fun business lunch today at @lamarsf with colleagues. We shared the ceviche tasting, the nigiri tasting, california causas, vegana causas, tuna la mar tacos and pulpo anticuchero.  The seafood was all so fresh and every dish was beautifully presented. The flavor profiles all worked so well together and hit all the senses. It's the first time I've been back to La Mar post covid and the quality of the food and the service remains as high as I remember! I will be back.

Eggplant was out of this world!

The appetizers were good! However , the sever recommended two main dishes that are like trying to mimic Chinese food yet not even as good as Chinese food

Not exactly my kind of cuisine but I have to admit the food was delicious. It won't be my regular go to place but occasionally, if in the mood to try something new and different I'd definitely go back

- Food: The food was very sophisticated and unusual. Something completely different. I particularly liked the starter. - Cocktails: The drinks were also very sophisticated and unusual. Delicious! - Ambience: The location itself was nice, but not exceptional. But at 6 p.m. in the evening it was already very cold, even though we sat inside. - Service: The waiters were all very attentive... too attentive. The plates and glasses were cleared away extremely quickly and we were often asked if we wanted anything else. Everything seemed very rushed. It wasn't really relaxing. It didn't invite you to linger.

Dining here is always a delight. The food is consistently delectable, and the staff are exceptional. Special thanks to Daniel and the manager for their outstanding and warm service.

Stopped here for a drink and a break while walking the waterfront. They have excellent drinks and the food looked great. I had a smokey old fashioned. It was absolutely delicious. It's perfectly mixed and tasty. I did not eat any food but saw almost everyone around us and will try it when I'm in the area again.

It is not generally common to find good and authentic latin American food outside of its endemic region, however, this restaurant in particular really reflects the great dishes that Peru offers. I will say that the portions are relatively small in general and also quite pricey, but overall i think the experience is worth it. I would recommend coming for dinner, as the atmosphere is really nice and settling due to the seaside and the sunset.

For a high end restaurant such as this, our waitress didn’t understand what flax seed meant (in context of allergies). Furthermore, a member in our party asked if there was any thing on menu close to enchiladas and she was clueless again. For a sec we felt being in a foreign land as opposed to SF :)

I want there today to celebrate my birthday, service was really slow and really bad communication, the places was empty no excuses.

Peruvian cuisine overlooking the ocean in San Francisco. A restaurant with high standards, e.g. service begins immediately after crossing the threshold. The host leads the guests to a free table (at our request, to a table with a view of the Ocean). The waiters were very polite. Here are the ratings. Starters: Pulpo Anticuchero (octopus) - 10/10 (excellent, I highly recommend it). Dishes: Cebiches/California - Halibut ceviche - 8/10, Piqueos/Anticuchos (chicken skewers) - 9/10, Vege/Quinoa Caprese - 7/10, De Nuestra Cocina Caliente/Arroz con Mariscos (very similar to Spanish Paella) - 8/10. The food was very good, although we had to pay attention because the halibut in one dish was raw inside. This piece of fish was replaced with a well-baked one after a short time. I recommend this restaurant!

La Mar Peruvian restaurant it is a unique and delicious dining experience! Making a reservation was easy, and they were very accommodating with changes. The customer service is top-notch, and the food is absolutely delicious. The cebiches and lomo saltado are outstanding, the empanadas are a must-try, and the Choco-Maracuya dessert is my absolute favorite—truly delicious! Highly recommend!

The food was amazing, service was outstanding. However, there were a couple of minuses: it was a bit chili to be on the patio for dinner, one of the heat lumps did not work that well; and we had a very loud party at the table next to us. There were few moments when it got a little uncomfortable.

We love La Mar, tried the Chef's Tasting menu for the first time and it was amazing. The table next to us was jealous that they were not able to order some of our dishes individually.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Mar Cebichería in San Francisco, and it was an experience worth noting. The food was absolutely fantastic—each dish was a vibrant celebration of Peruvian flavors. The cebiche was the star of the meal, with incredibly fresh seafood and a perfect balance of citrus and spice. The variety in the menu kept things exciting, and everything from the causas to the tiraditos was top-notch. However, the service left a bit to be desired. While the staff was friendly and welcoming, there were a few moments of clumsiness that detracted from an otherwise wonderful experience. A couple of minor errors with our order and a bit of inattentiveness at times were noticeable, though nothing that severely impacted our meal. Despite this, La Mar’s food alone is enough to warrant a visit. With a bit more attention to detail in the service, it could easily be one of the best dining experiences in the city. I would still highly recommend La Mar for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Peruvian cuisine in a beautiful waterfront setting.

My much-loved go-to favorite for any special occasion, and our treat for out of town visitors! Delicious, colorful, varied and incredibly fresh, exquisite seafood & tangy, tasty, peruvian dishes. They take such good care of us, pay special, careful and kind attention to any food allergies, and generally proudly achieve a level of excellence more consistently than almost any restaurants we’ve been to in San Francisco in 7 years here. La Mar is my favorite restaurant on Earth. Delicious food, attention to details, fabulous staff. We do not live in SF-probably a good thing because I’d go more often. If you like ceviche, go. GO. GOOOO!!! You’re welcome.

Restaurant was not packed to the gills at lunchtime, hence noise level was moderate, which we appreciated. Everything else, service, food, overall comfort, was absolutely delightful.

Great evening celebrating a 40th bday. They didn’t have the seating area we wanted but gave us the option to order drinks and apps in the bar while we waited for a table to open up. Saved the evening. We had a great time, ate really well, and spent a lot of money. But it was a really good time had by all.

We had a large group 9 so we did family style which worked out great. we worked with our waiter on the meal selection and all his reco's were great and proportioned correctly.

Gorgeous views and decor, great patio on the bay, excellent service, unique and complex offerings. Large format halibut with quinoa salad + delicious sauces including killer chimchurri, cerviche with taro chips was so good, best octopus.

This was my fifth time eating here. The food is always great. I came with a friend who is a Vegetarian and she was very happy there were multiple options and also loved her dinner.

Once again our overall experience was FIRST CLASS. When we entered we were warmly welcomed and seated on the patio that had a wonderful view of the Bay. We were fortunate to have our favorite server (Jacquline) who once again made wonderful recommendations with the Laqueada, (Ahi Tuna, Passion Fruit), Kapchi (Mushroom and Ricotta Crème) Empanada, and a Paella Style main entree style dish with Crab, Halibut, and Avacado. Along with Jaqueline, we had nice conversations and service from Kelsey (Manager), and Luis (server). Each one of them were great representatives of the restaurant and so professional. We will be back !

LaMar used to be one of my most favorite restaurants. But as it often happens, with time, it got worse. While the food is still good (not as great as before), the service was not super attentive or timely. The most shocking is price of wine: 5oz of a local Savignon Blanc $29 (while the bottle costs $15ish, depending on retailer). The value=experience equation no longer works.

This is a special occasion spot (also a lot of corporate parties here) - reason being is it can be quite pricey. I do think they have a decent happy hour in the lounge up front but if you are dining in the main restaurant, it will be expensive. The food and quality of service is definitely what you expect for these prices, very fresh fish, delicious combo of flavors, a lot of variety on the menu - I do recommend overall but try and put it on the company card!

Josh and the Hostess went above and beyond to make our experience a great one. We often come here and we are so happy they were able to move us to a better table near heat lamps that work. Thanks for that! The food is always exceptional and hasn’t missed a beat in the many years we’ve been coming here. The pisco sours were so beautiful and delish we had 3 each! We even had pictures taken with the sous chefs during their very busy shift. Thanks so much for making it extra special this 28th as we were celebrating Peruvian Independence Day! 🇵🇪 My husband who is a Chef in the City thought it was a nice touch! Hopefully we are able to meet Executive Chef Victoriano on another occasion. Thanks for the superb experience!

The food was bland and uninspired. The portions were very small and not very good value. Finally, the place was extremely noisy and service lacking. Not recommended

We sat outdoors with a view of the water and ships. The outdoor heaters were sufficient for comfort. The noise level was better outdoors than the indoor dining area. The waiter was pleasant and answered all our questions regarding food allergies and popularity to our satisfaction. The food was presented beautifully and the flavors were amazing. All the workers were kind and inviting which added to the relaxing and stress free experience. Even though the restaurant was crowded, the staff worked quickly and efficiently. We will happily return to enjoy this restaurant again.

This place is wonderful, however I refuse to give any restaurant a 5 star review if they have to take my credit card into some back room in order to process the transaction. Why is it that I can go into a restaurant in the hills of Iceland and they have a hand held credit card reader that can take care of the bill yet it Silicon Valley they do not yet have this technology? This technology has existed for over 20 years in Europe yet the restaurants in the US refuse to adopt it. Someone please explain this to me.

Our second time visiting the city and choosing La Mar for brunch. It was fantastic the flavors are amazing and the service is incredible. We love it!

Wie immer haben wir von vielen Tellern probiert und hatten durchwegs jeden Teller genossen. Der Arroz norteño und der lomo saltad ist herausragend Ambiente: Ein wenig laut, wobei das Restaurant war bis auf den letzten Platz besetzt ( und es hatte noch viele Gäste die auf einen Tisch warteten Preis/ Leistung: es ist ab der oberen Grenze, aber Qualität hat seinen Preis zum weiterempfehlen: auf jeden Fall! Ich kenne kein besseres Restaurant

Likewise, in my quick follow-up call to La Mar: Kelsey also provided warm service, thoughtful insights and great help. Thank you, Chantel & Kelsey! This is far an away the most polished and lovely front-of-house interaction I’ve had in ages -thanks a million!

Our server was very good. We had a great table outside next to a heater. The food was excellent but we ordered too much lol. The ceviche and the empanadas were the stars. We loved our main plates as well except, my salmon was raw and the dish was served cold and should have been served hot and well as my husband's halibut entree. His fish was cooked perfectly but cold and again should have been served warm and hot. So that was disappointing but the flavors were very good.

Amazing food. Top notch service from the servers, hosts, bussers, table runners and managers. The ambiance is breathtaking. And our server Louis was SENSATIONAL!!!!

Glad we stopped in here for a quick bite while walking the Embarcadero. We had the nigiri sampler and were very impressed. Nikkei food is a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine and they do an amazing job here. The flavors were terrific and each piece was dressed up perfectly with ingredients that compliment each other. The fish tasted very fresh. I did find the rice to be a little off, but the taste made up for it. I eat a lot of sushi so I’m being a little too picky. We will definitely be back to try more food. There is a full bar, dining room, and outdoor covered seating. It over looks the bay and is a great view. We were able to walk in on a Saturday afternoon. Very happy we tried this place and will be back.

Food and drinks were great but the service from the front desk hostess was cold. Pretty unacceptable for the price point ($100+ pp). I would not bring someone here for a special occasion or if you want to experience great hospitality. We were running 20 minutes early and were in the area so popped by. We had reserved in the bar and there were tons of empty seats at the bar so I asked if we could be seated early. The hostess was cold (a shorter lady) and said they would seat us shortly. Instead they did nothing for 20 minutes and when I finally asked again, they seated us at those same empty tables anyway. No one at the restaurant seemed to know how to smile. Time for some staff training! Bathroom situation was difficult because there was just one. I tried to use it 3 times and every time there was a line.

Glad to return to La Mar! We enjoyed it just as much as our last visit many years ago.

Elegant yet welcoming waterfront dining on San Francisco's historic Embarcadero with an exotic Peruvian flavor. The charming helpful wait staff see to it that you have everything you need promptly. The manager stopping by your table to welcome you makes you feel like an honored guest. We enjoyed drinks, an appetizer and other dishes plus a dessert - don't miss the curacao crumble! It wall enjoyable and we left happy and uplifted from the experience.

Every single thing was delicious! And the service was wonderful. Great place to have a special anniversary dinner. I had the octopus, my husband had the lomo saltado, and we shared the limeño cebiche. The cocktails were good too. I had a pisco sour and a golden gate punch, and my husband had the golden inca.

What a fantastic Peruvian food restaurant. Amazing location. But let me tell you service, food quality and drinks are far above the rest. We were greeted with a smile, and every person who helped us was just above and beyond. We are in the cuty for a short time, and this place just made it this dinner to remember!.
