This is my favorite Korean restaurant in LA! Kimchi fried rice is amazing but literally order anything, I’ve never been disappointed!

Great food always, kind service. Our bill was not itemized and it was $5 above what we actually owed—before tipping. It’s still an amazing restaurant and I’m for sure coming back! I would just make sure you calculate your price beforehand so you can adjust your tip accordingly.

I absolutely love this place. My second time here and I came back to Koreatown on a business day trip to LA all the way from Santa Barbara just for the food here. I love the women who run it and their warmth and care with which they feed us. It’s also extremely similar to what I ate in Seoul itself before. My favourite is the bibimbap and kimchi stew!

Best kimchi I've ever had. Soup was good. Atmosphere was very retro. Super cheap. Whole meal was only 16 and was very full.

The food was ok tasting (we ordered the seafood pancake, soft tofu soup, bulgogi and mackerel) and the wait staff courteous. The banchan options were delicious. The place is a no frills mom and pop restaurant located in a shopping strip center.

It was a Korean restaurant where you could feel the old Korean sentiment thanks to the very kind lady. The side dishes were neat and delicious! The bibimbap was also good because it wasn’t spicy!! I also recommend the dumpling soup. I highly recommend the hand-made dumplings that are so delicious~

A very chill Korean restaurant that provides comfort Korean dishes. There were not a lot of people when we came so it's nice to not have to wait too long for service but I can imagine it might get overwhelming because there's only one wait staff. The price is reasonable and the portion is ginormous so if you are a small eater you can consider bringing some leftovers home. For parking they provide valet parking that charges $3.

Went to dinner here and was really disappointed. Ordered the noodle stir fry dish and it was barely warm and unfortunately found a long strand of hair in my meal as well. The dish was not that good anyway.

We are having a layover in LAX and we come to this lovely Korean restaurant for the food that you will never run into in o the we Korean restaurants.

I really enjoyed eating at this place. I had been looking for a nice spot in Koreatown to try and this place satisfied the need. The place was very authentic. And while the waitress didn't know English very well, I was still able to communicate what I wanted. I ordered the squid and it was very fresh and flavorful. It was served mixed with onions, zucchini and various Korean spices. The banchan (side dishes) were very good as well. There was kimchi and 3 other plates of things. I think one of the others was tofu and another was zucchini. There was also a small pile of noodles of such. Overall, this was a great experience trying and I would eat here again.

Traditional, cozy, authentic homestyle Korean food. Quality ingredients and delicious food. The ladies that run this place are darling and so sweet not only to us but to everyone. The braised codfish is one of the best in LA.

It’s a small place with limited parking. However, all the foods in the menu are delicious!! I like pan fried white fish and fish-egg soup.

Comfort food with good banchan! Relaxing lunch place.

My parents and I stopped by for lunch and were welcomed in by the sweet ladies. The banchan was one of the best we’ve had and of course the seafood tofu soup was great! The short ribs were tender and they even made us dishes upon request. My sister asked for kimchi pancakes and I asked for tteokbokki. All the ladies were very nice and I would come again if I lived in the area!

Hidden gem! Amazing food at a reasonable price. Got the bulgogi, soft tofu seafood stew and cold noodles. All had great flavour and generous portions. Would highly recommend it to anyone visiting LA.

A little bit expensive, but the food is really good. However, the clerk seemed to treat us differently because we are not Korean. The two tables are both for two people, but the Koreans at the next table get more kinds of side dishes.

This is what I call a hidden gem! Home-cooked Korean dishes in a humble corner of a Koreatown plaza. All the staff and chefs were nothing but friendly to us. Every dish was bursting with distinct flavors and, to put it simply, mouthwatering. This is a restaurant experience I’ll remember fondly… Definitely recommend this spot as one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles for authentic, home-style Korean cuisine!

Mapo Kke Doo Gee Korean Take Out has a few tables, but it's mainly a place for take-out. It's in the middle of Korea Town, and the lady at the counter spoke very little English. Another Korean lady walked in and was kind enough to translate. I ordered my go-to dish at Korean restaurants, galbi (Korean beef short ribs). They were excellent, as was the Kimchee that came with it. I told the lady that I would wait in my car for the order to be prepared. She asked me if I liked kimchee. I smiled and told her yes. Smiling is a universal language. She bought my order out to me. I was parked right outside the entrance. That was very kind of her. I recommend Mapo Kke Doo Gee Korean Take Out.

This place serves delicious and very authentic Korean food… and this is coming from a Korean-born American. Brought my mom here and she said the bulgogi seasoning is correct (actual word she used). We also ordered the galchi-jorim and the seafood soontofu too. I eat seafood soontofu every chance I get and can be quite judge-y about the quality and flavor, and this was as good, if not better than the original BCD on Wilshire & Kingsley or Beverly Soontofu. We chose this place out of all the other options nearby cuz of the reviews about the banchan - not only was there a ton of options, most was seasoned and fermented perfectly (except the kimchi, it was ok, not ripe enough). All in all, highly recommend for anyone looking for true Korean flavors, not fusion. Want to come back to try their Doenjang-jjigae and kimchi-jjigae to authenticate further. Vibe/decor is standard mom and pop, no fuss korean restaurant.. exactly how I want my Korean restaurants to be. Not a fan of elevated/fancy Korean food 😒

Mapo Kkak Doo Gee is a rather small no-frills restaurant. Serving traditional Korean food, the owner and her staff offer about a couple dozen classic dishes. The clientele is mostly older Koreans who happily banter and feast on a variety of stews, soups and fish dishes. Other items are offered as well, including Naengmyeon, Bulgogi, Dalsot Bibimbap and others. The banchan here is a little different from what I have had elsewhere, including what I believe is a non -spicy kimchi with a delicious garlic flavor. Service is fairly quick and polite...the owner in particular is super friendly. Pricing here is quite reasonable and moderate.

Best place for Korean comfort good in Ktown! I eat a minimum of 2 rice bowls whenever I come here. Hehe...

The best Korean restaurant in Los Angeles. I go here whenever I am craving Mom’s home-cooked meal. I love all of their fish dishes, Soon dubu, sujebi, banchan; I have loved everything I have tried at this restaurant. The Service is great, and prices are reasonable with the amount of food you get, especially compared to other Korean restaurants in Los Angeles nowadays. Highly recommend you try this place!

Cozy restaurant and every dishes I had was excellent. The waitresses are very nice and they know how to deal with their customers. I love stir fried pork and korean bbq so-called Bulgogi. The side dishes are beyond good as well. I highly recommend whoever wants to experience the taste of home cooked korean dishes.

Kimchi fried rice, fried squid and army stew were all phenomenal. I love spicy food so it was perfect amount of spice for me but some may think it’s too spicy. Very generous rice sides and banchan. Kind staff. There are nuts in the potato salad. Seated quickly. Portions were good.

I know right now everything is expensive, but the food portion was a little small. For $16 you only get 3 dumplings plus a little bit of rice cake slices in a bowl of soup and some egg flower drop. I ordered the dumplings and rice cake soup.

한국에서 여행와서 우연히 들렸다가 너무 맛있게 잘먹고 갑니다. 엘에이 놀러와서 한국 음식땡길때 무조건 찾아야할곳 1순위! 메뉴에 먹을것도 너무 많고 사장님도 아주 친절해서 편하게 잘먹고 갑니다.

왜 이렇게 별점 높은지 이해가 안됨. 부대찌개 시켰는데 그냥 김치 찌개에 소시지, 스팸, 라면 넣은 느낌. 1970년대의 부대찌개가 이런 맛이었을지도 모르겠다는 생각은 들었으나, 90, 2000년대 이후 한국 부대찌개 맛과는 거리가 멀다는. 우거지 갈비탕도 고기 너무 질기고 맛도 없고.

This was my first time at a Korean BBQ, so I don't feel knowledgeable enough to rate it adequately, but this place is quaint and the presentation was beautiful. I had short ribs and they were fresh and tasty. I also wanted to say the portions are generous and affordable.

My mom used to bring me here in the 80s. Now I'm coming here. I remember how old the customers were back then now I'm one of those old customers . I always order the grilled dover sole. I don't know anywhere else I can get this. It's so good and I'm not a big fish fan. They grill it so crispy you can eat the smaller bones like a crunchy side. I love their banchan. This place reminds me of my mom. I'm so glad they survived the pandemic.

I believe that this meal at this restaurant was extremely delicious and yummy in my tummy. I enjoyed the various cuisine's native to Korea and the authentic vibe of the establishment. One of our favorite aspects of the meal were the side dishes that came out on a Styrofoam plate. It reminded me for my time in Korea and I felt very nostalgic. I enjoyed speaking Korean with the staff, I am not very good but they had a great attitude and laughed along with me. I am so happy to have found this place. This restaurant is a true gem in Koreatown. This has been the most authentic meal I have had in the United States. No-frills conventional Korean restaurant that serves 2 dozen comfort dishes that might be lesser known among Americans but more for Koreans. The stews and spicy broth filled hot stew/soup seem to be the popular dishes here among older generation diners. All of the ladies who work there seemed to know local diners stopping by to dine alone or with a friend. We wanted typical dishes like Bulgogi and Stone bowl Bibimbop without going to a big production Korean BBQ place that could be overwhelming and costs $50 or more per a person. Mapo was a perfect small restaurant for a family who wanted to have simple meals in a quiet setting. After our meals, I realized that their popular dishes are spicy beef & leek soup, spicy soft tofu seafood pot or kimchi stews, etc. There was 3-4 soft chewy fingerling rice cakes were accompanying the Bulgogi my son ordered. I would have loved to have bulgogi tteokbokki as a meal. Perhaps if you like bulgogi with tteokbokki, you could ask the ladies at Mapo could make a dish for you. If they are not very busy, I'm sure the ladies will accommodate a bulgogi tteokbokki for the folks who don't like spicy dish. The price here are very reasonable. The total for 3 grilled meat dishes and a dolsot bibimbop was $72. I was told the restaurant was extremely busy earlier that day around 5 pm (we dined at 7:30 pm). It might be worth calling the restaurant before you head over if you don't want to wait too long.

I heard about this place through a friend who came here because of his manager who's been coming here for the past 20 years. The hype was real, this small humble Korean restaurant did not disappoint. The 육개장 (yukgaejang) and 비빔국수 (bibimguksu) were SO flavorful and on the economical side for the portions. The ajummas will hook you up with all the side dishes too.

Looked that the establishment changed its name from Mapo Kakk Doo Gee to Ma Po Restaurant. Otherwise, nothing was new. PARKING : $2.00 by an attendant. RECEPTION : Impersonal but swift. (sole waiting staff lifted her finger and pointed to an empty table). AMBIENCE : Spartan. MENU : Broad range of old-fashioned and well balanced dishes. FOOD : We ordered one Dolsot Binimbob and one Grilled Sole. In the second case, we got help from the serving lady to complete the order. Both dishes were nicely prepared and presented with good and fresh ingredients. BANCHANS : Clean, attractive, extensive; made of quality ingredients. Their Kakkdoogee was outstanding, bar none. SERVICE : No verbosity, no nonsense, efficient. COST : Very good. MISCELLANEOUS : No alcohol; no BYOB

We visited this restaurant with a Korean friend, on her recommendation, and what an introduction to Korean food it was! The variety of flavours, ingredients and cooking styles was stunning. There were no short cuts here, everything was just how it should be, we were assured. This takes time behind the scenes, and the results were superb. It is very popular, justifiably so. Don't miss.
