Can't say enough good things about Marie's. Food and people are amazing with fair pricing and great service. Save room for breads and deserts, because the entrees are huge and delicious, but so are the breads and deserts (all in house made). Worth the drive from Missoula with out question, you won't find better Italian in the area.

YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO TRY THIS SPOT! My wife and I stop in this restaurant the other day. This restaurant is a RESERVATION only restaurant but they were able to sit us. The menu changes daily and the menu is located by the kitchen. As we were reviewing the menu, we were able to chat with the chief/ owner. The owner is the only chief in the kitchen and he spent hours crafting delicious Italian food. The atmosphere is quite nice, and you get a chance to listen to records of the owner's piano recordings. The food is absolutely incredible, it is the best Italian food I have ever eaten. Even compared to Italian food in Italy.

Such a great little Authentic Italian restaurant in MT that will leave you absolutely stuffed. The ambiance is a low light intimate affair.The veal milanese was so good. They give you and option of pasta; Alfredo, angel hair with a red sauce, and I believe was a seafood type pasta. The veal was cooked perfectly, the gravy was absolutely delicious. For Deseret, Italian wedding cake and salted Carmel cheese cake were the topper of the meal. Highly suggested to visit this little hidden Montana gem. Reservations are required and they always fill up.

Food was very good. Fresh ingredients and scratch recipes well executed by the chef. Service was spotty and confused. Probably due to new staff. Kind of the problem everywhere in the service industry. I feel the chef should do away with the tempura batter on the prawns and veggies. It isn't very crisp and it just doesn't fit with the cuisine. Serving a naked prawn with the combo plate and serve the squash slices just steamed would be much more presentable, tasty and visually appealing. Deserts are spectacular as well as their choice of bread. Having a choice of bread before-hand is genius. Soup and salad were spot on. The crab stuffed Avacados were so good I could just eat those for dinner. Real crab!

I called and asked if they could do gluten-free and was told there were some options. We made a reservation, waited, went there. It's a long drive so we got dressed up and made a big night out of it. The lady said, usually people who want gluten-free call ahead. I said that I had. I said, you don't carry any kind of gluten-free pasta at all? Or anything else gluten free? They just looked at me. It was humiliating and totally uncomfortable. We got up and walked out. What the heck?? It was just an awful experience. I couldn't believe they wouldn't even like suggest a salad or something. They couldn't have cared less about us. Made me feel like some kind of freak. Weren't nice about it. I am also Italian and have been pretty excited about having a good Italian place we could go to. This is literally the only Italian place I have ever been to that refuses to accommodate gluten-free in any way. Anywhere else can offer a different kind of pasta, a different kind of flower, chicken with no breading on it, or replacing the pasta with some broccoli or something at least. And I'm sure they could have easily done something that would've worked. An antipasto? They just couldn't have cared less. I used to love this restaurant ....and then I moved away. I've been talking about going back every time I go home to visit in Missoula...but it's located in Stevensville, just far enough away that I never seem to make it. Last weekend I texted a friend and asked if she and her hubby wanted to joint me and my hubby.....she responded YES!!!! Oh, my. Why don't I make time every time I visit Missoula? The food is amazing! They've added onto the building probably 3-4 times over the year reflecting how popular they are. The ambiance is a bit like going to Grandma's house. It's not super upscale....but comfy and homey. Plenty of parking and some outdoor seating for summer. They are open Fri/Sat...Sun? You pick from the list of maybe 4 appetizers, 6+ entrees....having a sample of wine while you "shop". Before you are seated you have a chance to view the 5 different homemade breads you may order with dinner, and the 5 or so homemade desserts. Once you are seated....you order what you want. Of course, we always order too much. The portions are BIG. We had a nice bottle of wine (they also have beer), an AMAZING pumpkin ravioli, sampled 2 of the breads (garlic knots and sun dried tomato bread), dinner comes with salad....then came the HUGE entree. I had the Misto Mare (this included calamari, clams, shrimp, with a choice of sauce and pasta...I had clam sauce and fettuccine). It was delicious! They had these tasty fried squash blossoms on the side of the plate...yummy. This is a family-run business. I remember when the children used to serve us water and bring our silverware. It's still family... so they are not open all winter as they travel to the south. Call to find out days/times they are open....be prepared to eat a lot....and to be blown away by the food! Reservations are required, and we now see why - this small restaurant (only a dozen tables) that serves only on weekend nights depends not on volume but on high quality individual food prep success in their business plan. Each dish is lovingly prepped by the talented chef, not a staff of line cooks. As a result, nearly everything we tried was a smashing delight. First, one judge's an Italian restaurant by it's marinara sauce, or more properly, gravy. Marie's is an outstandingly piquant sauce quite obviously brewed up with the freshest tomatoes and herbs. It was served atop the delicious sausage-stuffed mushroom appetizer we first ordered, as well as the wonderful Italian Sausage Canneloni selection on my Chef's Special sampler entree. That also came with a fabulous Shrimp Topped Fettucine Alfredo (a perfect creamy and rich yet light alfredo sauce-yum), an Onion-Bacon-Potato Tart (just a tad dried out by 8 pm) and most excellent Spinach Gnocchi. The gnocchi was incredibly flavorful but to be very picky, maybe a bit on the mushy side - but oh were they some tasty treats. The wife's Scallop Alfedo Fettucine featured the same superb sauce, and the scallops were gently cooked to perfection and tasted as fresh as if we were dockside on the Pacific coast. Did I mention the side soup? A brothy seafood consomme hosting a nice collection of mussels, potatoes and (surprise) angel hair vermicelli - very, very delicately delicious. The overall meal excellence, the quiet intimacy of the setting and the wait staff service made for a very special dining experience.....oh yeah - by all means order the Garlic Twist bread - loaded with toasted garlic bits and oh so scrumptiously baked fresh soft bread heaven! Marie's is kinda out-of-the way, nondescript from the outside and rather unusual in that you order from the hand-printed menu board before seating like at a Subway.....but if you want truly superb authentic Italian in the Bitterroot Valley, you must make the effort to grab a reservation (call early in the day) and enjoy a dining adventure unequaled in the area. Oh, and the hand-crafted desserts (pies, cakes and pastries) all looked fabulous.....we tried only the Tiramisu which I found not as espresso-imbued as desired, and a bit cinnamony (!?). And surprisingly, no cappucino or espresso to finish the meal......I think they need to invest in the machine! Just beer and wine and soft drinks on the beverage menu suited us just fine, but others might decry no full bar available. Really, this restaurant is all about the lovingly crafted fresh and authentic Italian fare, and now that we've tried it, we will be regulars guaranteed. Marie's offers the best food in the Valley (and very reasonable - most entrees were $17 to $24 including soup or salad and bread choice). Two of us dined elegantly and lavishly for $80 including wine and dessert. Absolutely SUPERB!

Our experience at Marie's was disappointing. We experienced a meal that at every turn was filled with disappointment and negativity. These proprieters put themselves first and they're clientele last. We went to celebrate a 75th birthday, but were not allowed to push our tables together because it was inconvenient for the servers. When presented with an idea that it wasn't about them, but rather, about the person who was celebrating the 75th birthday, the retort from the waitress was, "Well, the person that made the reservation was aware of what the rules were." We were also told that we could not share a meal because "they take reservations." (Whatever that means – I guess other restaurants don't take reservations like these people do.) Interestingly enough, for parties of six or more, there's an automatic 20% gratuity added to your check. Of this, we were charged for sure, but we weren't allowed to sit together. We sat at two separate tables of four!!!! To cap off the evening, while paying with a credit card, we were told nonchalantly that there would be a 5% addition for using a charge card. Oh my! These people think they're pretty awesome. If you wanna be treated like crap, go for it. The food was good, but not that good. Buyer beware.

Ok, you have to have reservations to eat here, no big deal, plan ahead. We had reservations for 4 at 5p.m., we arrived on time and were told our reservations were not until 5:15. When we arrived and had 3 adults and our grandson. We were immediately told that our reservations were not for 13 more minutes and we would have to wait. Then we were confronted by the older woman who works there (acted like she owned the place, maybe did) saying your reservations are for 4, is there another adult coming? My grandson (4 years old) apparently did not count as a person. Immediately we felt the wait staff was put out by our being there! The cook/chef was polite and showed us the food that was prepared for the night, nice guy, very proud of his skills. We were seated and given water (had a kind of aquarium smell to it, tasted ok though). The waitress seemed a little put off that we did not have four people ordering full size meals. When my wife and I said we were going to share a meal, as we do not want to overeat or have left overs, we were informed that this establishment operates only by reservations and as such, they depend on each person ordering their own meal to make up for not having walk in customers, so there will be a $5.00 "plate fee" to offset the loss of a full price meal by each person! I was asked " are you going share the soup too, or would you like to order your own?" I understand a fee to split a meal, but they did not split it, our meal came on one plate and then an additional empty plate was dropped on the table with our meal. We did order a side of bread and an appetizer. When the appetizer arrived (Calamari with red sauce) the older female delivered it, walked up to the table and literally dropped it from about 3" above the table and walked off without a word, luckily it did not splash all over my wife's white shirt! After she walked away (she went behind the curtain where the desserts were displayed, laughter erupted from the other waitstaff standing back there). Poor attitude from all of the waitstaff, it sure seemed like we were not welcome and they were happy to show that. Now, on to the food. The food was great, it arrived with attitude, but the taste and quality was top notch. The food is what I would call authentic Italian. It was well prepared, and presented well. So, if you want good Italian food and can put up with poor attitude and being treated as though you are imposing on the waitstaff, it could be a worthwhile place to visit. When the bill came, I was informed that there would be an additional charge for paying with a credit card or debit card. after putting a $100.00 bill down on the table, the waitress seemed to get a little more friendly (probably hoping I would not deduct from the tip the poor service!) I did give a little more than a 15% tip, as I rose above my own desire to leave a whole lot less! I won't be back though!

After hearing for years how amazing the food is, I finally tried! It did not disappoint. The house-made pasta was perfectly prepared (gnocchi as appetizer, sausage and peppers for dinner). I have to say the ambiance is poor; water stains on the ceiling, very loud music, strange decor, and flies flying around the display of breads guests are to choose from at the entrance. Been there twice, heard about it from a friend. We called the first time around 6PM for a reservation that night, sold out! We were a intrigued and made a reservation for the next night. You have to look real hard to find this place, even if you have the address. Its in an industrial building back from the highway. Very clean inside and WOW is the food great. I believe owners work there for several months during the tourist season then they close and go to someplace that is warmer. They buy and prepare enough "WONDERFUL FOOD" for the anticipated crowd coming that night. Everything is fresh and I would say special in some way. These people care about their customers and the experience. The dessert, again something special, was great!

While we looked at the menu, the chef recommended the salmon, which was delicious. The veal dish was also outstanding. They offered some good wines at reasonable prices. All the staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant is a little hard to find, so be on the lookout for their sign on the east side of the highway.

Delicious Italian food from staters to bread to entrees and dessert. This is a bit of a quirky place but if you can get past that you will enjoy an excellent meal. Upon walking in the door you read the hand written menu on the wall. You are then guided to the wine and bread station where you choose those items. You then walk past the dessert display to your table. Service was efficient and food was delivered quickly and hot from the kitchen. The bread was delicious. I had the garden salad to start which was nicer than most garden salads with a delicious homemade Italian dressing. My entree was the Misto Mare-----simply amazing.
