Fast in n out bought tamales to go.

Went for brunch. Service was slow. Food was fine but basic. Staff seems very unenthusiastic.

I loved mateos. Yes I was in past tense... It unfortunately has closed because the building sold and the new landlord did not renew the lease. The good news is they have a sister restaurant in gunbarrel - Raglin Market. And in speaking with the owner he is planning on combining the two concepts... I'm looking forward to it!

We had a reservation for Easter brunch, only to show up to a note posted on the door that they are not opening for the day. There were quite a few other diners showing up to the same disappointment. They didn't bother to call, text, or cancel online reservations. Incredibly unprofessional and disappointing, especially on Easter morning when finding another reservation is incredibly difficult.

Shared a great burger and attempted to share a medium rare (actually extremely well done overcooked) steak.

I wanted to revise as the new management/owner now has service on point; food is still the same(good) but the food and drinks(correct ones) arrive promptly. Solid, good French food, and the best food of any dog friendly patio in Boulder. ———- I’ve been here a few times and the food/cocktails/wine are excellent. The service has always been slow but it’s usually been worth it. Unfortunately I have to amend that because no matter how good the food is, if you don’t get utensils for 20 minutes after the food comes, or your cocktail order doesn’t come out for 40 minutes(and then is wrong) it doesn’t matter. I really hope service gets better and I can change this review.

Not a very good experience from start to finish. Really disappointing.

Waited 30 minutes for our reservation. Waited another 20 minutes for a drink. Pate was good but I literally had to bus our plates 30 minutes later to get anyone’s attention. Main courses were awful. This is coming from someone who eats anything. Can safely say we will never be back!

Went in on a quiet Sunday. Our server, Lilly, was amazing.

Really disappointed in the service today. Sunday brunch. Few diners, but still took 30 minutes to get cocktails and another 45 minutes to get simple breakfast food. Unfortunate.

wife and I went for brunch, we thought we were going for an upscale brunch but would have better to stay at home. completely dead inside (but blasting old school rap music) service was inattentive (asked for sparkling water and brought still, and no refills throughout the brunch). Food was somehow brunt but cold. Our recommendation is to go to brunch at the Kitchen for downtown boulder.

I was the highest bidder for a chef tasting/wine pairing dinner for 10 at Mateo with Mathew (the owner) at a live auction. After organizing with Corey, the chef, setting a date and confirming that morning, the chef tasting with Mathew didn’t happen. We had 10 guests coordinate baby sitters and get dressed up for the most disappointing dining experience. Mathew had tickets to the CU game with Corey so they bailed without talking to us. The poor staff scrambled to accommodate our party size by making the tiniest table seat 10 people by the bathrooms. Then it was like the kitchen ran out of food and every other person received a half portion to share. Dessert was every third. It was so embarrassing. It’s taken me a few weeks to write this after being so disappointed. I found out later, the benefit actually paid the restaurant for the auction item. I will never recommend Mateo or Raglin Market (their other restaurant) to anyone ever again.

Very nice food preparation and pleasant ambiance. Not too formal but with many good elements to enjoy the food. It is one of the casual mid-high end restaurant. Maybe not fancy but great place to go.

Loved our Sunday Brunch. Friendly staff & delicious food. We were a party of 6. We each chose a different dish and everyone enjoyed their meals!! Mateo’s is wonderful about making accommodations for dietary preferences. Highly recommended!

Love the Poulet Frites, that sauce is amazing.

It was just ok which was really disappointing since we were very excited to dine at Mateo. Our server was new which is totally understandable. We dined early and we’re there for the happy hour menu. We had the butter lettuce salad (regular menu) which was very good. The dressing was perfect. We also had the steak frites and the moulles from the happy hour menu. The steak was tough and definitely not what I would expect from a Provençal bistro. The moulles were good. I’d eat those again. We finished with the lemon tarte and the panne cotta both of which were average. I was surprised by the number of Italian wines on the list since it’s a Provençal restaurant. There were no white or rose French options. With all of the great restaurants on Pearl St we have lots of options which means each restaurant has to be top notch. This one didn’t perform .

Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this establishment. So glad that my fiancé and I found this spot, not only is the atmosphere comforting but the staff was so kind, helpful and made us want to come back even before we had received our dishes. The food was delicious and prepared beautifully, will definitely be back in the times to come! Sadly it was a bit dark by the time we got the entrees so the photos aren't as clear but trust and believe, it was exquisite.

I’d love to give a review of how the food was but despite having an hour before close, I was told I couldn’t be seated with no explanation of why. I was a party of one and there were only a couple other groups of people in various stages of dining. It is very nice inside. Too bad the level of care given to promoting a friendly atmosphere wasn’t there. I read another review that said the food was not good so maybe it was for the best.

The mussels tasted fishy and bitter, and the risotto was undercooked. And in tiramisu, the water came out. What the hell is going on? Only the server was friendly. It was a restaurant I loved, but I don't think I'll go there anymore.

Huge kudos to the team at Mateo for helping us host a wonderful team dinner for 18 people and making it look easy! From booking our event, to the set-up, to the excellent service we received that night, and of course the wonderful food—the whole experience was perfect! A number of restaurants in Boulder have made it exorbitantly expensive and difficult to host larger gatherings—Mateo was exactly the opposite. They were welcoming, friendly, and allowed the group to order off the full menu. The service was attentive and efficient from the first cocktail through dessert. The sommelier did a great job picking wines for our group and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals! Big shout out to the team at Mateo for creating and maintaining the local neighborhood restaurant feel that is filled with warmth and excellence.

I’ve come here off and on for the past nine months. Came here a month ago to test out if my leadership team and I should dine here for our summit. In early April, my CEO and I tried it out. They sent my drink order to the kitchen. I waited at least 15 minutes for my drink while my boss already had his, He’s a southern gentleman who wouldn’t drink until I had my cocktail. Why did my drink take so long when there weren’t diners at 530pm? Dinner was fine, but the service was inattentive. Our waitress ignored us when it would have been great to get water. I saw her a couple of times laughing with another wait staff. Dinner was three hours when it could have been cut by 30 minutes. Needless to say, I canceled the reservation I’d made for tonight. Instead, the six of us dined at Brasserie 1010, where we had amazing food and outstanding service. Played phone tag with manager Matt. Haven’t been since and won’t be returning.

We had the pleasure of dining here on Mother’s Day evening. Inspire of having been at work since early that morning, Harry, our charming young waiter, was exceptional! The restaurant, so popular in Boulder, was a lucky find for us! The charcuterie platter was a lovely start to our meal. My husband then had the duck and I enjoyed the mussels! Desserts looked delicious as they went by on their way to other tables but the generous portions had left us no room for dessert! Harry invited us to return when we are next in Boulder. We shall plan on it!

Come here every time in Boulder and live it every time. Service is knowledgeable and nice, food is great, and wine list recommendations are always spot on.

Poor service, I’m sorry. No service. We had reservations, was sat at our table, and never saw anyone even contemplate acknowledging us. Never even got water. After the next reservation was sat, brought water, and ordered, we left.

Tables are inches apart, noise level is high and staff is not willing to do anything about it. Food is unremarkable (cheese that you can get from Costco, shrimp that smells old, tuna tartare that looks greyish, etc) . Mediocrity.

Boulder's multi decades of experience in fine dining !! Charming location with outdoor seating right on Pearl Street. There is plenty of street parking in front or half a block south on 19th. This icon has had long-term management and a staff who clearly enjoys working at Mateo. Delightful drink menu with unexpected selections. Plan on ordering food again and again when you experience what they offer. Highly recommend the Tomato Bisque, my favorite I've ever had. My evening meal was poulet frites, chicken served with fondue and hand cut frites. If you are burned out on chicken, please consider this dish! Organic slow cooked pan seared, it is unforgettable. Salad was delicate, absolutely fresh. Fries came out hot, this mael takes about 20 minutes. Lemon tart to finish, went nicely with the last sip of the recommended white wine in photos.

We had a satisfactory experience. The wine was fantastic, but everything else was just fine. Since the pandemic our experience has been average (at best) service and reasonable food. The atmosphere was nice, but bar staff was less than great, and overall for a $150 date night we were disappointed. We will be back but only for happy hour, wine, and maybe appetizers.

A solid French bistro style restaurant. It's super busy so things can be a little chaotic in there. The food is delicious, the steak frites was delicious, they use a lot of pepper on the steak, which made a good crust . The bread and cheese were decent, I wish there was a little more of each cheese but it was enough to get a few bites each. The mussels were tender, delicate and full of flavor. For somewhere so far from the ocean I'm glad to see the they tasted fresh. Whilst it's not kid friendly, I would not say it's unfriendly. I do not think there is a kids menu. So consider that if you are bringing kids. I'd definitely go again.

A true staple for my husband and I ❤️ Whenever we have a special occasion, THIS is our place. The duck confit is outta this world and the meat and cheese board is perfectly put together. Also the staff is wonderful and goes above and beyond. In case it wasn't obvious, we love Mateo

Sat at the bar for drinks and appetizer. Both were good, but at some point the bartender just stopped giving us any of her attention--even though it wasn't busy.

Matt at Mateos made the evening. Best dinner out in months. Amazing service, fresh and well prepared food, and atmosphere that truly was enjoyable and fun. Highly recommend, can’t wait to go back.

Having lived a long time in London with loads of French restaurants, Mateo has been the first restaurant I’ve fallen in love with in Boulder - the poulet frite and duck and fish were divine. Very accommodating staff and delicious half glasses of wine - thank you! It allowed me to have a glass and go back to work

An extraordinary evening with a dear friend. Started with plump moules- delicious in a savory tomato and wine broth - followed by the poulet which was out of this world - succulent and extra crispy at the same time. Matt treated us to the gorgeous and as equally delicious green Charteuse digestif to perfectly top off the night! Can’t wait to come Back!

Great experience overall - tasty drinks and every dish was delicious and well balanced. We were initially worried about being seated outside (it was less than 40 degrees out) but the patio heaters kicked in quickly.

Better than ever.. My experience here in years past has been “like a box of chocolates“… But there is a new captain at the helm, Matt Yule, and what used to be the case of “you never know what you’re going to get“ with service and quality has become a consistently awesome experience, time after time. This is now my shamefully frequented go-to neighborhood spot where I can count on consistently stellar service, great food, and a wine list that never fails to impress (pro tip: ask for Griffin; wine-guide-extraordinaire who’ll never steer you wrong).

I'd never been to Mateo, but it was a very pleasant experience. We arrived at 6p and the only spot they had was the shared table which was no issue. They menu was pretty small, but all the food looked good. I ended up with the Lamb Bolognese, it was good not great. The server was knowledgeable about wine and did offer a good suggestion. I'd go back once the menu changes.

I want to be gentle because like all restaurants, it appears that COVID was also not kind to Mateo. It was also Parents' weekend at CU Boulder so the restaurant was quite full and the staff did the best they could. We've eaten here before and it's been an incredible experience both with service and food. This time was not so memorable. The food was ok and the service adequate. Again, I want to be gentle because of circumstances and every restaurant is struggling in some form or fashion. The wine list is actually pretty good, but there doesn't appear to be a sommelier present. E.g., when we ordered a decently expensive bottle of wine, our server indicated that he wasn't sure if they had it and if they didn't he "would just find something else." This is not how wine selection works. For me, this won't be the last time we come to Mateo because I remember how it used to be. I'm just hoping my wife feels the same.

Staff were knowledgeable, friendly and intuitive. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived but they made accommodations and offered a complimentary charcuterie plate while we waited. Lovely touch. Manager came by to check in a couple of times. Good, buzzy vibe. We had the fixed price menu and everything was delicious. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful lunch. Our service was lovely. And the chocolate mousse was delicious.

By far the best burger in Boulder. The sweet smothered onions knock it out if the park. Can’t thank Griff enough for the great professional friendly service. Highly recommended!

Good food and good service. We sat outside on their very lovely patio. I had the chicken with frites, which were perfectly cooked and a salad that was also delicious. My husband had steak and frites which he said was the best steak he had had in a long time.

I don't want to be harsh, but: I ordered a pâté from Mateo on Aug 3, and the next day (Aug 4) I developed diarrhea and still have not recovered from it to this day (Aug 7). I do not have any prior underlying stomach issues; I just returned from a road trip across Colorado, during which I consumed a pâté dish from a local French restaurant in Canon City and had no problem whatsoever. I would like to remonstrate against this restaurant's handling of food, and seriously suggest anyone who comes across this post refrain from visiting this restaurant, or at least do not order their pâté, as there are potential public health issues.

I met up with a friend from the Honey Pot next door and whilst it was late and Mateo's kitchen was about to close, Aidan said "don't stress, come on in" which we were kind of bloody well thankful for as we were STARVING! A great wine and liquor selection, and the Lamb Bolognese and Duck Konfit were spectacular. Wonderful service by Aidan, Annabel, and Leo and they even let me stay inside whilst I waited for my Uber for 25 minutes as it was absolutely pelting down outside. 1st time here and we were very impressed. See you again soon.

Very accommodating staff, delicious food .

We went here for lunch & really enjoyed it. We started off with the cheese plate appetizer. The cherry/cranberry jam was so delicious! It wasn't a huge plate, but enough for the 2 of us. I ordered the salmon, which came with veggies. It was delicious! It was the perfect size portion, not huge, so I ate the whole thing. We sat outside in the area with the trellis roof. There were two areas outside, so there is plenty of room. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant.

Tasha was my bar tender and host. She took care of us to a level that I've never experienced before. She attended to every request we made promptly and even gave us special options that weren't on the regular menu and nearly read our minds about what we wanted. This venue is also zero waste which I greatly appreciated. I think I'll strictly eat here whenever I'm in boulder.

Great location 4 blocks from the Pearl St Mall, so easy parking and quiet. Not even expensive! Beautiful patio, where we sat.

Mateo has nice folks here who worked hard to provide top-notch service. The menu is simple but with a solid selection of classic choices. The wine list was especially good and seemed to be premium-priced.

It is clear that Mateo has seen better days. And without much competition for French cuisine (with L”Atleier and 10/10 gone), they don’t seem to care about quality. I brought a friend there for a birthday dinner. The duck was awful. Could easily have been chicken. Flavorless, dry and not much going on worthy of the price. My friends steak frites was below average as well. Both that and the grilled shrimp appetizer wreaked of “indoor grill” smell and flavor. It was awful all around. Staff asking to take our plates over and over because too many staff and not enough customers. This used to be in the rotation of restaurants for me. This experience was so disappointing and quite frankly awful dining. If you’re reading this—try someplace else!!

Came here for dinner after reading about it being one of the best places for dinner. We were not disappointed! The weather was great so we sat outside- much quieter and less crowded than indoors. Our server told us about the specials of the day that we’re not on the menu, and needless to say, half of our meal was from specials, and the other from the everyday menu. We ended up getting the Burrata and French Onion soup with Gruyère as the first part of our meal. They were both delicious and the perfect size, leaving us satisfied, but definitely hungry enough for the main course. Speaking of, our main dishes were the Lamb Bolognese and the Mussels. I was not a fan of the pasta, but my dining partner loved it. The mussels were the star of the night, though. There was quite a lot of them and the taste was immaculate! I recommend this for anyone visiting Boulder and looking for a place to eat out (it was very reasonably priced as well)!

The ‘Colorado Steak’ was the worst cut of meat I’ve ever eaten - & I couldn’t! It was tough & without flavor. I thought it was going to be ribeye, but it wasn’t even hanger steak & should at least have been marinated. The frites & salad were good, but that’s a lot to pay for just them. The staff knew I wasn’t happy but never offered any compensation. My friend had the tenderloin, which was delicious, but the ‘Colorado Steak’ is an embarrassment to our state & should be taken off the menu!

Had an excellent time for my anniversary, we were even offered complimentary glasses of champagne to help us celebrate. Mateo has never disappointed!

Excellent food. Disregulated and sloppy service. The dishes that were hot were fantastic. The cheese plate was incredibly disappointing and served very cold. The music was too loud and presenting a vibe that didn’t align with the menu. I can really feel the front of house and back of house operate in different ecosystems. I’d love to see the front of house represent the magic that’s coming out of the kitchen.

Good food, though ambience and service could use some improvement. Paper over the tablecloths felt a bit at odds with $25 entrees and $60 wine. Service was attentive but slow. The duck confit was prepared well (fall off the bone tender) but the skin was overdone - crispy to the point of being dried out. The chicken, burger and fries were great. Worth visiting again.

Great local restaurant with friendly staff and delicious food.

First time dining, so, so amazing! We came towards the end of a huge rush and had learned they were short staffed but still felt like it wasn’t. Fantastic service, amazing food! Our waitress Chris, if I’m remembering correctly was perfect! Couldn’t have asked for a better night! The mussels are out of this world, the broth they’re cooked in is phenomenal! We loved both our entrees, fries are to die for! And even their ketchup and Mayo are a step above!

They accommodated us even though the reservation service had made a mistake. The food was delicious and interior beautiful. Service was perfect and everyone so nice and friendly.

We scheduled a large-party business dinner through Mateo and couldn't have been happier. The staff was extremely accommodating and were regularly available for whatever the team needed. They were able to cater to a variety of dietary restrictions including dairy free and vegetarian. Tasha was extremely helpful in providing exactly what our CEO wanted for the night. Thanks Mateo for being so great for the Greenhouse Scholars team!

Very disappointed in my meal . Not a good choice for vegetarians. They only offer their salads and a pasta with vegetables. The pasta had absolutely no seasoning on it neither did the vegetables. I also had the gazpacho that tasted like tomato sauce. my friends seem to enjoy their animal meals. This is not a vegetarian friendly restaurant

We had high hopes. Mateo was recommended by the Bradley Inn where we are staying. The patio seating is lovely. From the beginning it seemed they were having staffing problems. We were served by 5 or 6 different servers. Our cocktail order was lost and came after the salad. They admitted that our entre order was lost and we waited too long to be served. The problems were dealt with professionally. Everyone was pleasant. The service was just less than what we would expect and hoped.

Fantastic venue for private party! Mateo was an incredible location for our event! All details were so thoughtfully accounted for from the placement of the flowers to the attention to our guests. The food and drinks were excellent but most of all the service and kindness by all staff members was incredible! We thank you so so much and look forward to dining with you all again soon!!

We went to Mateo for their happy hour which they touted both on their website and on their door. But no; so sorry, no happy hour. We soldered through but found the service to be very slow and uninspired. The food and drink were par for downtown Boulder, i.e. pretty decent but nothing to write home about. Too expensive, of course. Interestingly, none of the staff wore masks, even in the face of the Covid resurgence. Even the employees at Safeway now all wear masks. Not impressed.

AMAZING customer care, the staff were so kind. They brought us the wrong drinks out and went and made another round for us for free. The burger is also unbelievable, def try it out!

Service was honestly pretty bad. Slow, not responsive... Food was ok, but certainly not worth the price. The cocktails also left something to be desired. Unfortunately I will probably not come back.

We came for lunch. I heard that the chicken, (Poulet Frites), was popular so I decided to give it a try. The chicken itself was cooked to perfection with its nicely seared skin. The sauce was delicious. The salad and fries however, dumbed it down a bit. If I came back it would definitely be for the Colorado Lamb Ragu. This dish was outstanding! The Croque Monsieur, a typical French sandwich, was the most disappointing. It looked awful and tasted the same. And for a French restaurant the fries were worse than a fast food restaurant. I think Burger King and Wendy's have better fries. We did enjoy the Charcuterie plate and the Pate for starters. I was hoping for duck liver but they made it from chicken liver and it was quite tasty. The grilled and buttered bread served with it was fabulous. The Verte salad was nothing to write home about. It had a little too much salt on it as well. The Pot au creme with brownie and Caramel sauce was outstanding. I loved that it was not loaded with sugar. It was the perfect balance of everything. Kudos to the dessert chef. My 20-year-old inquired about non alcoholic drinks and all the waitress mentioned was Coke products. We then had a table discussion about whether they had coffee or whether anybody could spot a coffee pot behind the bar. There was nothing on the menu that indicated coffee or other non alcoholic drinks. I guess I don't understand why the waitress would not try to upsell. We were unsure if there were any specials either. This was Christmas Eve after all and a very special time of the year where people like to celebrate and eat. When the restaurant you choose to go to does not feel the same way it can be a bit disappointing. We did not hear about any particular wines, or other house specialties. The next time I choose a French restaurant I will choose elsewhere because I expect better.

Ahi salad was amazing and just perfect for a hot day. The pate was also awesome. And our server was very attentive.

Birthday dinner was excellent. The chicken and frites were perfection. A relaxed and delicious birthday dinner for our family.

I appreciated the friendly and attentive staff. The food and beverages were excellent. My friend and I sat at the bar and Griffin provided exceptional pairings for our dinner. Lamb Bolognese and arugula salad.

We ate dinner at Mateo over the weekend. The hostess & wait staff were courteous & helpful. Highest compliments go to the chef, however, for the superbly done duck confit dinner entrée, crispy golden outside & fork tender inside. The chicken liver pâté hors d’œuvres was silky deliciousness & paired well with the wine selection. The outdoor patio seating was cool & refreshing after dark with overhead twinkling lights under the umbrellas making for a lovely, relaxing ambience that evening.

Service was poor, very slow and inattentive. The food was pretty good. The olives, cheese and charcuterie trays were delicious. We all got steak and frites, one was under done (no one returned to check if they were okay), one over done and two came late. We got a bottle of wine that a fly flew in, which at first they offered to bring us a new bottle, but instead only topped us off. So really didn't get all our wine. Didn't get the dessert we ordered either, as they were apparently out and just brought us whatever without asking what we wanted. Clearly they were understaffed and struggling on a Saturday night to keep up.

Great local welcoming feel. Friendly staff and good food. If I eat in Boulder, this is the place.
