The food and the service were good. You order your food and then go into the dining room to eat.

Power was out, it was about 95 degrees in their restaurant, and they STILL delivered delicious food rapidly. Great place.

The food is always soooo yummy! The staff and owners are always so nice and the place is always clean and so cozy. It really feels so inviting and authentic! My husband, my staff, and I eat or order out a lot… queso, birria tacos, and pupusas are always on the order but tamales every now and then… I would recommend hands down.

I recommend that you visit this tortilla, the tortillas are very delicious and the food is delicious and the service is highly recommended.

Great people and delicious food!

The food at Mawi is so fresh and tasty. I’ve just recently been introduced to this restaurant and I’ve eaten her twice in one week. On top of having really delicious food at a fair price with generous portions, the owners and staff are above and beyond friendly. They take great care in preparing the food and maintaining a comfortable and clean environment! This is a very casual establishment - no fuss, no frills, just authentic goodness! Order at the counter and have fun taking your choice of table in the dining room. I’m a fan, would recommend a thousand times over and will continue to frequent this as a new go to eatery!

4 people in our party. Divided us, two ordered at counter and asked other two to sit at a table to get order. Was asked by manager/owner. Gentlemen did not take the order of the half of party that was asked to sit. Ignored the two people he had asked to sit. Horrible service. Gentlemen acted as if the young lady at the counter was being too slow. She was doing just fine and we felt her service was great. Gentlemen seemed overwhelmed w/5 customers, 4 of which were in the same party. Saw a story about this restaurant on the morning news. Was excited to try the food but never did due to bad service. Party was from out of town.

10/10 Food, Service, and atmosphere. The customer service is out the roof and the Birria tacos are the best in the city.

Absolutely delicious!!! Everything homemade!

I happened to hear the review on the place on the radio and decided to try it. I’m happy that I did. I ordered the Yuca Con Chicharron and chicken tamale. The first dish was larger than I thought, but it was delicious. I haven’t eaten the tamale yet, since I was full from the first dish. But I look forward to doing so later. I got to meet and talk with the father of the business, and it was very pleasant, as he gave me samples of certain foods and informed about why his tortitas are different than others. It was very informative. One of his sons was a chef at Emeril’s, and a New York magazine rated Mawi as a top ten best restaurants in New Orleans. Im looking forward to another visit

We were really impressed with our lunch at Mawi Tortillas. We had the bierra tacos and chrispy pork shoulder with yucca and slaw. It was delicious and plated beautifully. We loved it so much that we got tamales to go (the big ones wrapped in banana leaves). The owner waited on us and couldn't have been nicer.

The pupusas were not the Salvadorian pupusas I am familiar with, the birria tacos were dry. Food was over prices and the lady messed up the order. The young man in the dinning area was the only polite person at this place. Won’t be back and won’t recommend it.

Read New York Times article top 25 restaurants in New Orleans. Just happened to be in Metairie. So glad I popped in. Birria tacos are fantastic. Shrimp nachos. Excellent. You must check them out. Even took home 2 dozen corn tortillas, salsa and some extremely hot salsa they had too. Love this place!

Decided to try this place because a lot of people recommended it as having the best birria tacos. When you walk in, order at the counter, take your order number, and enter through another door to get into the dining room area. Someone will bring the order to you, and there'll be an area with condiments and a bucket for you to place your plates when done. In my opinion, the birria tacos were ok. I was disappointed. I've definitely had better but to all their own. The chicken quesidillas were plentiful but were also just ok, nothing too special to note. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any homemade sauces available but instead had hot sauce bottles, even one from Buccees..Or maybe they did have some but you have to request for it. They do sell other things like snacks and such, too. There were plenty of parking spaces, but the lot itself is tight when it gets crowded.

Excellent food and friendly service. Chef Will has something special happening over here and you’re silly to miss out on it. The breakfast burrito with chorizo is a straight up cheat code. The passion is evident in the food they serve.

A dream come true. The staple tortilla makers using their own products to make awesome food. Worth a visit, even if you aren’t near. You won’t be sorry.

Great food, super cheap, I get a lot of cheese and tortillas there any time I go so I can eat more when I get home.

Some of the best restaurant chicharron con yucca that I've had.

Great food, quick service, and friendly staff! They recently opened their new dining area and it’s a great place to sit down and eat since there are many tables to choose from (guests seat themselves). Some of my favorites are the chicken tamales, Honduran tacos, and the pupusas!

Best Birria an au jus in the greater nola area. Only had one bad experience out of the many time I’ve eaten there. I called and the manager apologized and offered me a refund. The guacamole is also really good, but it has a tad bit to much lemon juice and onion those flavors overpowered the other ingredients. Great customer service will always make up for a less than favorable experience. I will definitely go back.

This place is definitely worth your time! The customer service is top notch and the food is amazing. I have finally found good birria tacos! The consome was a bit lacking in flavor, but it was not bad. The meat was juicy and so flavorful. We also ordered nachos which were fantastic. The queso they use for the nachos was perfect. We also ordered pupusas, and enjoyed them. I'll definitely be returning for the nachos and birria! You must try the aguas frescas, especially the mango. They make their own tortillas, and it makes the food all the better.

Great birria tacos and yuca frita with chicharron.

The food here is really good and you can tell it's made with care. Very flavorful, yet not salty or overbearing. We had the birria nachos (without pico or beans) and the pupa fritas - both were exceptional. The hibiscus aqua fresca was really refreshing and not overly sweet. The staff is really nice and welcoming. The place is quaint with just a few tables, so ordering to go is a good option.

Service is kind with a smile. Birria tacos and quesadillas are a bit greasy but so good! While we waited we got some chips, salsa and tortillas…freshy fresh! True Mexico in Metairie!

I was so excited for this that I dug in before taking a photo! This tres leche king cake is the best thing I have ever experienced! There goes traditional king cake for me! Seriously, try it!

Great food and great customer service!

Delicious food, went to them shortly after Hurricane Ida and even with limited menu they did a stellar job and were so friendly. Can't wait to enjoy more of their full menu, highly recommend their birria or pupusas!

Just had their breakfast first time today....Awesome!! Also got the guac and bean dip with their homemade chips...again...awesome!! Can't wait to go back!!

Great food and great customer service

Absolutely amazing food. The quesadilla was everything I've been missing from home.

Let me start off by saying the customer service was great. I ordered the quesadillas which were $9 and they were the best I’ve ever had. They were meaty and cheesy. I also had the sweet hibiscus drink it was delicious also. I can’t wait to go back tomorrow to get the birra nachos.

I want to start by saying, I WILL DIP ANYTHING in this birria broth. As soon as you walk into Mawi it smells like home. The staff are friendly and the food cooks quick! My tacos are bomb!! You need these!

This has got to be the freshest most delicious source of locally made corn tortillas. And their my resource of some really good queso! And all these veggies...ORGANIC ! And the corn for the tortillas is non-gmo! And the cheeses are out of this world authentic from El Salvador / Honduras. One last And...No Preservatives on anythinggggg!

Dropped in for the burger pop up, it was delicious!!! It looks like good food is served there... I'll be back!
