Love eating at Cafe Mimo, my one complaint is that the Cornish Hen is chicken not Cornish Hen, making it false advertisement

Unpleasant servers and unprofessional. They were very cocktail and unwelcoming. Waited 2 1/2 hours fir food. Servers came over to check on table. When serving the coffee.. the table hadn't need been cleared from dinner. When we asked how much longer for our food she responded wait it will be out.

You have to ask your server for your order rather than be greeted. They have fruit flies. The filthy people that sit there and ignore, are the same filthy people that love the food. You can do better and find better. People are so careless and nasty these days.

Great authentic portuguese dishes. There are many places in the area that serve the same portuguese food. But making something taste great consistently is what sets you apart. This place nails every time. From the traditional portuguese soup to pork and clams (carne alentejana), its taste and ingredients rival all others. The must-have here is the Mimo steak!

A hidden gem located at 1528 Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford, Cafe Mimo Restaurant is an excellent dining experience that is regarded by many locals as the best restaurant for Portuguese food in the city. My wife and I are open to trying new dishes and we have been enjoying many unique Portuguese delicacies that are promoted online daily and compliment their traditional menu choices. We both love seafood and for an appetizer we generally choose between Littlenecks with Garlic Sauce or Spanish Style, both are delicious! I have my go-to choices for an entree that I will mention first. Seafood Linguine, Seafood Mozambique, Baked Stuffed Salmon & Baked Seafood Platter are each delicious and will satisfy my urge for a seafood dish. Each dish is made-to-order and if you would enjoy an adult beverage while you wait, they have draft beer, bottled beer, wine & excellent cocktails that are all reasonably priced. I enjoy their Sangrias that add a generous scoop of diced fruit & your choice of Sumol Sparkling Juice. Regarding the Baked Stuffed Salmon, ask for a side order of their Creamy Mozambique Sauce for an upcharge. You will not regret it. I dip the salmon & vegetables in a cup of this sauce and I love it. You can order Chicken or Shrimp Mozambique dishes with the regular or creamy Mozambique Sauce and you will crave that sauce until your next visit. Cafe Mimo Restaurant features daily specials and authentic Portuguese limited or seasonal food items are featured. Their excellent & friendly staff will provide you with answers to any questions that you may have about that, should you decide to explore food offerings that you haven't experienced before. I enjoyed every one. My favorites included Lapas ( Mediterranean mollusks ), Portuguese Goat Stew, Portuguese Tripe & Bean Stew, & they featured dry rubbed Grilled Ribs that were the best ribs that I have had in the area. We have become "regulars" at Cafe Mimo Restaurant on our mission to explore new dining experiences, and my wife and I are grateful that we did. They have off street parking behind the restaurant, but you do not have to feed the meters after 6:00 if you see an open space. I am certain that I will continue reporting on their other fine food choices in the future.

This place was recommended by a few friends so I decided to try it because everyone was raving about the Mozambique. I am now concerned for my friends if they think this place is good. My pork was extremely overcooked to the point of it being inedible. I actually had to switch meals with my husband because it was so bad. His dish wasn't much better. For $21 his steak was small and his side dish was undercooked "round fries." They were very thick and raw in the middle which is wild considering Portuguese restaurants usually cook everything to death. Overall, everything was flavorless and not cooked properly. There are so many other Portuguese restaurants in this city, I suggest going elsewhere.

I placed an order for pickup, got here and didn’t receive my food because they never put the order in to the kitchen. But, they quickly corrected the issue and the food was totally worth the wait.

Good local place for Portuguese food...it has been around for a long time and staff is friendly...it is not fast food - so plan ahead and enjoy a leisurely meal. The shrimp mosenbique are yummy enjoy with some pops to soak up the sauce!

Good service but food was not good at all! I really wanted bife a mimo and haven’t been there in so long. I got my meal and it had no flavor at all. The sauce was so watery, loads of garlic on it but still no taste. My mom who was with me tasted it and said the same thing. I told the waitress and didn’t want to cause any problems. Bill came and couldn’t even give the coffee as an apology. Not sure I will be back to be honest.

I’ve been going to this wonderful Portuguese restaurant for years. Their food is awesome. The last time I went with my fiancé, they sat us in an area, that was reserved. There more tables available. But sat us here for some reason. We ordered a food. It was the most expensive Portuguese steak they had. I’ve ordered a steak many times. This time the peppers did they used (red Portuguese peppers) were so spicy they made the steak super spicy, it literally burned our mouthes. When we asked the manager if he could make us another steak less spicy? He replied it’s not my fault that you ordered the wrong steak. This steak was so bad I could not even eat it, but I did, because I don’t mind spicy food. However, my fiancé could not stomach the heat. Upon his refusal to replace her steak at least, I was insistent she took two bites of the steak and did not want it. So he made us another steak. The waitress asked if I would like the steak that she had I said yes. Then my fiancé immediately said they’re going to charge you for it so I asked the waitress and sure enough she was going to charge me for the bad steak. They made us another steak to go and shoed us out of there. When we got home the steak had an old dirty straw wrapper under it! I can only assume they dropped it on the floor, and picked it up and put it into the styrofoam container. I actually ate half of the steak when I noticed the straw wrapper. OMG SO GROSS!!! I wanted to see them because it was the owner and the owner’s wife I believe is a waitress. Don’t ever go to this restaurant. This place used to be great but now it’s the worst. I’m upset that I can’t give Mimo’s a lower rating. They’re disgusting.!!!!!!

Good food, good value & good service

Service was fine. The restaurant was maybe 60% full when we arrived (5pm Sunday), we were seated after a few minutes wait, and served a reasonable time after ordering. However, the food was mediocre at best. We had cod cakes (ok with some tartar sauce), shrimp Mozambique appetizer (ok), grilled squid (bland—tasted like rubber bands, slightly bitter in places) and grilled sardines (fairly strong fishy taste, edible but not great. Desert was tiramisu—mediocre at best. The best feature of the meal was that it was relatively inexpensive, $65 plus tip for two people.

Whoever the chef(s) were on valentines this year give them a raise. It was excellent 👏 ordered the steak micalense it was perfect, and the rice pudding was great. Service was great and welcoming. Portions are excellent. I can't wait to come back.

Anything on the menu is always excellent. The service, staff and owner are top notch! Best red Sangria ever! If you have never been to Mimo definately make it your go-to Portuguese place!

Very authentic Portuguese food. Rissois (shrimp coquettes) were excellent, cod cakes (pasteis de bacalhau) very very good. Sardines were very good as was the Polvo asado and the Cozido, which had a variety of meats very well cooked. Very reasonable prices, will be back.

The food 😋 at Mimo's is absolutely 💯 👌 fantastic. I am never desapointate. Be prepared to wait a little bit for your delicious food because the food is authentic. Highly recommended 👌

Soup watery and bland with no substance in it. Food overcooked/burned and not flavorful..... food sent back in its entirety the exact way it was served, a full plate. The server asked what was wrong, explained it to her, never provided another plate cooked to the temperature it was requested, and charged full price for the uneaten plate of food. This place has gone downhill!!!!

This place was amazing when the father ran it but if you go here while a party is going on in the function room dont hope to have your food in a reasonable time i have been a lobg time customer that brought friends here from out of town and waited a hour and a half for our food its unacceptable!

Just had lunch there today and was pretty satisfied. Service was good at the bar but slow in the dining room. Food took quite a while to come out but good size portions. Will return.

When I go home to New Bedford I always go to Mimo. I absolutely love the food and the atmosphere.

The service and the food were absolutely fantastic. I had made reservations for 2:00 and my in-laws were literally an hour and a half late. My waitress was amazingly patient totally worked with me and they let me bring a cake and they sing Happy Birthday to my mother-in-law. Cannot say enough great things about the staff and the food.

Mimo's is a gem. One of the best restaurants in New Bedford. The creamy chicken and shrimp Mozambique is fantastic.

Been at this restaurant more times than I can count...have never, EVER had a bad experience...the steaks are always great as are the shrimp Mozambique which is by far the best in the city...the workers, bartenders, and owners are outstanding...will continue to come to this place for many years..

The food was so good. We had 3 appetizers, 3 meals by the way was great. Drinks, bread on the table, and great staff. This place is a gem.all for very short money.

Place for the locals to come for traditional Portuguese dishes which we had was very tasty. Service was good drinks were rather small. We had gone in the daytime for lunch. Not sure how the neighborhood is in the evening.

Great food I tried to eat at least once a week

Seated quickly with reservations. Waiting nearly an hour to be served our meals while watching others who arrived after us being served. Meals were unmentionable. Ordered the octopus which was drenched in oil, better the next day; Mozambique chicken, not very moist and shrimp both just fine. Didnt try any appetizers nor dessert.The cocktails were good especially if you like to taste the alcohol. Atmosphere could have been more comfy. It was a bit chilly in the restaurant. Did eat everything so regard that as you may. Restaurant was clean. Happy we came and experienced for ourselves.

Since this review we have been here numerous times,every meal has been excellent,the steak special,the shrimp mozembique in a cream sauce,the favas,to the mixed drinks,to the Teramasou,excellent,the staff are great,at times it may seem service might be a little slow,but the food is worth the little extra wait always consistent

My second time here. Years ago had grilled Octopus which was very good. This time had Cod fish balls ($1.30 each) and a Fava bean appetizer ($5.95) to start. Dinner was Chicken and Shrimp Mozambique with pink sauce served with rice ($15.95) and Alentejana Pork with potatoes and pickled carrots/celery ($16.95) for my wife. The pink sauce was creamy but not too heavy and was a great complement to the meat. The pickled vegetables added a nice tang and contrast to the roasted pork. These meals were outstanding and we only were able to eat half of our servings. We had a nice bottle of Casal Garcia ($18). Beers were $3.75. Flan pudding completed dinner ($5.00) with an expresso ($1.50) and a capuchino ($2.75). Service was fast and friendly. Great family atmosphere.

This is a small family-run diner in the heart of the North End. It's split between a bar-café side (with some tables and the same menu) and a more traditional dining room on the other that caters to the working class immigrant families in the area. The menu showcases some Azorean specialties along with other Portuguese dishes, beers, wines, and desserts. The menu is bilingual and so this is an accessible way to discover Portuguese cuisine. And the bar side is a great place for a date or leisurely time with friends. Service is fast and friendly, just be prepared to speak clearly for many staff whose second language is English. Prices are very reasonable, but the large portions make Mimo a great value.

Food here is great. Make sure to get the Chicken Mozambique with the Pink Sauce.

Positive first: great prices and amount of food. The chicken Mozambique's sauce was amazing Negative: Timing of the food was not great ( one person in our party didn't get his food until we asked for it) server was not very attentive ( waited for a glass of water after server was back at table 4 times), meat was over cooked....asked for medium got very well

The shrimp Mozambique appetizer was excellent, 5 stars. My portugese steak was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed it. The only detractor was my companion didn't enjoy her entree at all.

Went Friday night with another couple. Great Portuguese Steak. Everyone enjoyed the food. Service was horrible. Server didn't know drinks..couldn't answer questions and everything took forever. Any time we needed anything we had to find her and flag her down. It's too bad because the food is the real deal.
