VIRGINIA MILLER IS AN AMAZING CHEF!!! (and a nice person too) My family and I have just returned from a wonderful week in the Outer Banks. Our group of 34 rented a large beachfront house and arranged to have each night’s dinner catered by Chef Virginia Miller at Modern Coastal Cookery. What a great decision that was! The meal’s Chef Virginia provided were top shelf restaurant quality. If you are looking to eat well while vacationing or partying in OBX, get in touch with Virginia. You will not be disappointed. I cannot say enough about Chef Virginia and her staff and how they enhanced our OBX experience. They are consummate professionals devoted to preparing delicious meals for their clients. Virginia is an amazing chef with a great personality who is incredibly easy to work with. She aims to please and she did an outstanding job of delivering high quality cuisine to our family each night, all while accommodating multiple dietary restrictions within our large group. I could not recommend Chef Virginia more highly for anyone vacationing in OBX who wants to enhance the experience by including top notch cuisine. Virginia is the best!

My 7 year old participated in Camp Culinary this summer and absolutely loved her week with Chef Virginia! It was a great program and she learned so much. The space is beautifully designed, clean, and professional. I can't wait to attend an event or cooking class here myself!

My daughter has attended Chef Virginia's Sunday Baking club for kids multiple times and this was her second year attending her summer camp. They cook, bake, do crafts and play at the local park. It has helped to build interest in her helping in the kitchen. She loves it and has a wonderful time! Would highly recommend.

We had such a great time at our cooking class / birthday party with Chef Virginia at her kitchen classroom in KDH. She made it easy, fun and delicious. About 12 of us (in stations of 3 or 4) made a fish stew with mussels and a Mediterranean tomato salad with whipped herbed feta. Then she brought out chocolate mousse for dessert! 10/10 recommend!

Celebrated my 41st Birthday with family and friends while cooking a delicious Mediterranean feast! Fantastic 3 course menu - whipped feta dip with tomato salad, seafood stew and to die for chocolate mousse!! Stunning setting, delicious eats and many laughs. I’ve heard great things about Chef Virginia and she DEFINITELY lived up to the hype! We did a children’s cooking class. I honestly can’t say enough great things. Both hosts were patient with the kids and excellent with instruction. They had more than one activity setup, anticipating the shorter attention spans of the littles. We had the best time doing something fun together as a family and also educational !! We will 1000% be back and I HIGHLY recommend to adults, parents, kids everywhere! She also offers adult cooking classes which I can’t wait to try for a date night! 10 stars!!!!

We had a fantastic time learning how to cook with Chef Virginia! We made our own pasta and ate it! We had wine and dessert as well. It was fun and we even made new friends! Highly recommended!

Virginia and Keith created and served an AMAZING dinner for our friend’s 50th birthday party. The appetizers, salad, grouper entree, and dessert was all fabulous. Everything was executed perfectly. We got to sit back and enjoy our dinner party without lifting a finger. We couldn’t have asked for a better or more delicious dining experience!

Chef Virginia and her team are all stars! They catered our week long OBX family vacation with lunches and dinner for 30 of us. Every meal was hot, fresh and delicious; and delivered with a bright smile. We hired Modern Coastal Cookery for a surprise 70th birthday private dinner for my mother during our family vacation in Corolla. Everything about the evening was perfect! Chef Virginia and Chef Tim were such a delight with their storytelling and easy way - we felt like we had invited old friends into our home. Early on, Chef Virginia helped me plan the dinner and make some modifications based on some family favorites and dietary restrictions. Everything from the appetizers to the dessert (tip: order the chocolate cake!!), was amazing. Like a fairy godmother/godfather, when the evening was done, Virginia and Tim cleaned up everything, said their goodbyes and left us smiling and full! What a special way to spend a night with family. I had to plan a small wedding dinner at our beach rental last week with only a month’s notice. I found Modern Coastal Cookery online and loved the website. The execution of the actual dinner was as lovely as what I saw online. Virginia gave me a great choice of ideas/menus from which to choose and her proposal was clearly priced. No surprises. They brought all the plates, napkins, flatware etc which took a load off of me. The staff was so nice and professional and the 16 person wedding dinner was beautiful, tasty and effortless on my part. They even got creative and embellished the simple table arrangements. I highly recommend Modern Coastal Cookery and would not call anyone else if I need to entertain again in the Outer Banks!

My family had a wonderful experience with the meal. It felt like we were at a 5 star restaurant instead of a rental house. Virginia made accommodations to suit certain dietary needs. Tim the chef was unbelievable. The plating was something you see in magazines. Virginia took her time to cut my grandson’s meal. The best was the food. The taste was fantastic. My meat melted in my mouth. I would highly recommend using Modern Coastal Cookery. I would also recommend booking more then one meal with them. I could only get one night in the three weeks that I am here. I will be booking early next year.

Absolutely amazing!! Chef Virginia and her crew were incredible. They catered a couple of nights for a small beach wedding I was attending. The whole group was fun, attentive, and the food was delicious. I cannot recommend them enough!

We had a large family vacation to Outer Banks and were looking for a high quality in home chef experience. All I can say is ‘WOW!’ Chef Virginia and her team gave us the experience of a lifetime with their professionalism, friendliness and absolute first class quality of food. To watch them operate for a group of 23 was incredible! We laughed and enjoyed each other’s company without having to wait in a restaurant line or any other hassle that goes along with a group of that size. We hired a private chef for a birthday dinner during our beach vacation in Nags Head, and everything about it was impeccable. Not only did Chef Virginia feed us a seafood feast of tuna tartar, shrimp skewers, and scallops with mushroom risotto, but she also decorated the dining table with a beautiful autumn setup. She also accommodated the picky teenagers in the house with their own entrees of a delicious chicken entree and mac & cheese. They were extremely professional and took all the necessary precautions during this time of COVID. They wore masks the whole time and cleaned & sanitized everything they touched. They also packaged our leftovers for us, including the delicious butter rum cake. I highly recommend you give them a try for at least one night of your beach vacation. It's a far better alternative than dining in a restaurant or doing take-out, and it was nice to have a break from cooking every night at the beach house! I will definitely hire them at least one night during future OBX vacations.

I just got back from a fantastic vacation in the OBX and we had the pleasure of a chef meal via Virginia from Modern Coastal Cookery. Having done this a few times I can confidently say this was one of the best experiences I've ever had. The food was fantastic. The timing impeccable and the chef and her assistant were just the right amount of engaged with my party. We cannot wait to use them again! Skip the fluff and go straight with the best - Chef Virginia and Modern Coastal Cookery won't disappoint. Oh, and the scallop BLTs and her chocolate mouse are to die for.

Chef Virginia prepared and served a wonderful meal for a small family dinner. She planned out and presented a great menu from start to finish! It certainly was a treat to relax and enjoy family while not stressing over what to cook.

Oh my gosh - where to begin?! I got married in the Outer Banks (Corolla) in early November. We had a big house for the entire week leading up the wedding and I was looking for unique ways to spend time with our close family before the craziness! I booked Chef Virginia Miller from Modern Coastal Cookery to do a Private Chef's dinner at the house on the Tuesday night before the wedding and OH.MY.GOSH. She went so above and beyond any expectations I had. From start to finish she was an absolute pleasure to work with. She sent me SO many wonderful menu options - it was nearly impossible to pick! My family was able to relax and enjoy a beautiful night together as she and her team prepared several courses - which included the BEST local Red Drum with Roasted Root Vegetables, Organic Polenta, and a Chablis Beurre Blanc. OH and the best Cheesecake I've ever tasted. I still think about it...... It doesn't stop here. I also booked her to do my Bridal Brunch on Friday morning. She did the most gorgeous and delicious sausage & herb souffles, potatoes and fruit. Finished off with Pain Perdu that was to die for!! Chef Miller and her team are not only talented cooks, but also so fun, polite and professional. We will continue to book her every time we go back to the OBX for vacations!!

We have used Modern Coastal Cookery several times. The food is as good as it gets.This last time, was for a group of golfers who thoroughly enjoyed the experience of a personal chef. Menu selections are varied and all set up and clean up is included. They impress more and more each time. Prior to discovering Chef Virginia we had used many of our favorite restaurants’ personal chefs. They often seemed like catered dinners. Virginia prepares everything fresh while guests can watch and ask about her techniques. I highly recommend to anyone for the most delicious meal and experience.

We recently hosted a birthday celebration dinner with our closest family. Virginia and her assistant with Modern Coastal Cookery created the most amazing meal and atmosphere! We started with a few fresh, scrumptious appetizers (and bubbles of course). We then had a salad, our main seafood course and her amazing chocolate mousse cake (YUM). She was able to accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions, serving up a separate plate for our vegan guest. The booking process was extremely easy, Virginia was responsive and professional throughout. She created multiple menus for us to choose from and graciously sent wine recommendations for each course. Our families are still raving about the meal! We HIGHLY recommend Modern Coastal Cookery!

WOW!!! Book this chef! We had Chef Virginia and her team serve dinner for my Mother-in-Law's 70th birthday as part of our beach vacation. My MIL has always been the one to throw the party so planning one for her is tough. She’s also a hobby chef, fascinated by French cuisine, and travels to Paris often. The bar was set high and Virginia went above and beyond. I spoke with a couple other chefs in OBX but I wanted someone personable who we would want to have in our “home” and who my MIL could gab about French food with if she wanted to. Before booking, Virginia and I had a couple of warm conversations that made me feel like she’d be a good fit. She was flexible and creative with menu options. I was worried about the terrible kitchenware at our rental beach house kitchen, she brought her own. I was worried we wouldn’t have enough food (we’re big eaters) I even offered to pay more to have more, she declined and assured me we would have plenty and we did. I was worried I wouldn’t get to enjoy the fun as I’d be putting the baby down as food was starting to be served. Virginia saw that I was having to step away and made me a plate of all the yumminess so I wouldn’t miss out! I assured Virginia that all the kids would eat the regular menu, but last minute my niece said she really didn’t want the seafood in the main course, Virginia used some of the filet from the appetizers to make her a beef entrée instead. Amazing! I was worried that the experience wouldn’t be impressive enough to my well-traveled MIL – WOW was she impressed. She couldn’t stop talking about the meal for the rest of the vacation. From our initial phone call, to the lobster bruschetta and filet toast appetizers, to the amazing entrée to the fresh peach crumble – Virginia was the right choice and made our family party an amazing night to remember.
