Most incredible sushi experience I’ve ever had, and Britani is a delight. They are the unreal sweetness of saccharine - a joy and a delight. I’m thankful to have had them, and the Monk’s Journey is an absolute *delight*. Must try.

The place has a good atmosphere to have a good time with your friends and have a few drinks but honestly I ordered a drink that I didn't think it was very good. Food was tasty, I ordered a Chahan rice (which easily eats 3 people) and a beef tzukune, both very good. I would go back to Momotaro to try more of their food soon!

the ambience was very nice and chill but the music was very loud and the lighting was super dark. the spaghetti was 10/10 to die for - only thing to change is the portion size. it's way too small so i was trying to take small bites to savor it.

Had an absolutely fabulous dinner. Our server Calvin was on point and very helpful. We started off with Kaki to Buri, nagima, and tsukune. The kaki to buri was delightful, the negima was on point, and the tsukune was absolutely awesome and probably my favorite. As a main i had the sake (Faro island salmon) which was absolutely fabulous, a karai tuna roll which was very good, and some tamago just for fun. I actually loved the tamago and mixed with a hit of soy was very delicious. I had a non alcoholic Miyota Precision with dinner which was very good. I would like to try some of the other NA drinks as well as they all sounded enticing. For dessert I had the MANEKI-NEKO which I could probably eat like 100 of and then die a happy person from indulgence. I seriously might just try to swing in here for dessert again if I can as that was probably the best dessert I've ever had anywhere, hands down. I will definitely return. My only complaint isn't about the restaurant at all, but the people next to us. Our server asked if they wanted anything else and they said no. He came back a short while later and asked them if theyd like the check and they took offense to this and started loudly making snide remarks to and about Calvin, to the point my partner and I had to hear it, because they wanted to apparently camp at the table for an indefinite period of time. I don't know how you can get through life and earn enough money to eat somewhere like this without understanding how restaurants work, but apparently its possible. Heres a tip: when you say your done the server usually asks if you want the check. They arent mind readers and theres no "standard" time of 30 minutes or something before they ask. Usually at restaurants like this its actually quite soon because if you're done, they need to turn over the table so they can earn money and so someone else can eat there. They need to do that so the restaurant can pay their employees and so they can stay in business. If you want to chill for a couple hours after eating maybe go to Dennys at 2am. Also: even if you're dropping good money at a place like this, you have no right to treat the staff like crap and loudly complain about imaginary BS to the point where other patrons have to hear it. You're then screwing up my dining experience in general and bothering me on a moral level as well. Maybe you should take all your money you think people should be impressed with and pay someone to teach you some manners and how to treat people. Hit me up if you want and I can work out a consulting rate.

I was really looking forward to my dinner at Momotaro. I only had a couple of nights in Chicago and chose this restaurant to bring my (adult) daughter and friends. When we checked in, we were escorted upstairs to a bland, undecorated, quiet, small room with tables full of children and older guests. It felt like I was relegated to the non-cool part of the restaurant that had zero ambience. I asked to be seated downstairs where there was a buzzing vibe and good music and was told something vague along the lines of “oh it’s so full and you will have to wait”. I have a reservation though, so not sure why I would be told that. I accepted the table in the awful section because I didn’t want to argue and possibly make my guests uncomfortable. The food was alright and our server was lovely. I will not go back.

I wanted to like this place given the Google reviews.....but too much about it was super average including the service. The sashimi was all fine but nothing really popped not even the blue fin. A couple of the rolls were above average (the momomaki and the kani jomaki) but the other rolls were no more than fine. Basically this is my neighborhood sushi place at twice the price.

Nice place in a vibrant Chicago district; staff are friendly and the service is quick. The food, however, didn’t impress. Sushi is very mediocre. The rice dish was very nice but it was slightly too dry. Wine selection is ok. Overall, I’d be nice to see more creative and better presented and executed dishes.

I was really excited to try this spot out! It was going to be the last time in a long time I was going to see a good friend of mine but I sadly have to report I was disappointed. When I walked in I was in awe of this restaurant the lighting and the seating was beautiful, at first the service was phenomenal, but as I sat at my seat longer it was as though I became aware of issues within the staff. I was first greeted by my "main waiter" who would only came to my table 5 times during my stay, her helper was way more attentive towards the needs of my friend and I. For a moment we thought the helper was our new waiter as she was asking us about our needs, when we asked her we wanted to add food to our bill she immediately assisted. Later the main waiter came by and asked us what we wanted, as we didnt want to order double of what we wanted, we told the waiter we had already ordered she immediately got irritated and in a rude way told us WE WERE ONLY SUPPOSED TO ORDER WITH HER. To top it off as we were sitting we also heard a small argument between different a waiter and his "helper" over soy sauce... I know my friend and I made the same face. We waited a long time for our food, although it was good it wasn't life changing. The desert was a highlight tho I would recommend.

TLDR; Top notch dining, usually excellent service with occasional delays, focus on the cold/hot/rice sections of the menu for the extraordinary gems. For those in the know, Momotaro is a top level choice for Japanese dining in the area. There are no shortage of excellent sushi restaurants (Mirai, Kai Zan) in Chicago, and we are now in an Era where Izakayas (Robata Grill!) are also well represented. This is key to acknowledge. Yes, Momotaro offers excellent sushi, and the robata grill section of the menu has no losers...but ordering primarily from those parts of the menu would be a mistake because of what you're missing out on. Plus, there is only so much a chef or cook can do to elevate the standards. Coming to Momotaro and complaining that the sushi wasn't incredible is like going to a 3 Michelin star restaurant, ordering mashed potatoes, and then complaining that while good, you don't see what's so special about mashed potatoes, no matter how good they were. You're missing the point. Anything off the cold, hot or rice sections is delicious, and that is where you should mostly order from. (3 orders per person plus 1-2 shared from the robata is probably a good meal.) The lamb chops from the robata section are mandatory, as is the dessert menu. When it comes to sushi, it is all very good: fresh and properly prepared. With that said, I'd argue it is best reserved for filler if still peckish at the end of the meal. There are some specialty sushi options as well if you're looking for the exceptional. Service here is excellent, personable, and friendly. That said, the place is popular and busy, so there will occasionally be random delays and mistakes. At our last visit some of the sake we ordered needed to be fetched from the basement, which prolonged its delivery. Also, the server misheard my order for tamago as one of unagi. (Sorry, Calvin, I apparently wasn't paying enough attention when you read the order back. Service was perfect otherwise, you were great!) It didn't matter, because it was excellent anyhow. The only atmospheric downside is the volume of the music and conversation, but I'm a half-deaf middle-aged man, so complaining about loud music and crowds is mandatory. Ultimately, it really comes down to how we vote with our money, and Momotaro has become a part of our standard Chicago Dining rotation. Looking forward to our next visit!

Loved it. I came in super hungry with the intention of trying multiple different items - sushi focused. I had the hamachi and otoro single nigiri as they were out of the ten day dry aged chef selection of nigiri (it was 9 pm). Buttery, fresh, delicious - 10/10. I then had the Kaki to Buri (hamachi crudo) which was citrus infused light and full of flavor and followed with the Momomaki- big eye tuna, spicy octopus, pickled daikon which was a large portion. It was also spectacular if you are a fan of the texture of octopus. I personally loved it and thought it was a great experience from start to finish. The service was amazing. There are so many restaurants to choose from in Chicago. I loved the Fulton market district on a Friday night and I thought it was a different but just as good as my experience at Komo with way more options. I hope to go back.

Do not waste your time or money. Chef Kato would be disappointed at what his restaurant is nowadays. Sat at the bar and they *refused* to make my miso soup spicy, were beyond rude in multiple ways, and overall was some of the worst service I have received ever in a restaurant, let alone in Fulton market area. Quality of food is up there which keeps this review from going in the trenches, but overall there are significantly better Japanese/sushi spots that are far worthy of going to rather than Momotaro. Stay away!

Subpar food for egregious pricing. Portions of appetizers and maki bowls were lacking. Ambiance was interesting but wasn’t enough to make up for the lackluster service. I dream about the curry spaghetti, a real sleeper on the menu that somehow trips all the wires in my brain for both soothing homecooked food and the perfect flavor explosions of fine dining. I would review this higher, I've eaten upstairs at Momotaro twice in the past five years and it was great, but this time at izakaya was worse than bad service, there was no service. Jamila was our waiter, she took our initial order of food and drinks for three but we never got a follow up check in for the remainder of our stay, never refreshed our drinks (I had to stand up, walk up, and ask her for a second round of drinks), and we never saw her again until we flagged her down for our check to finally leave. I won't return and I will actively encourage others to avoid. There are a lot of great restaurants in Chicago and there's no reason to waste your time and money on subpar service.

💢 WORST service in Chicago 🚩🚩 The waiter was extremely rude. We paid by scanning the QR code, which is their requested, abnormal way of paying. However, the Black male server who attended to us (Table 100) in the corner close to the alcohol-making bar from 4:30 pm on July 6th ran out of the restaurant and shouted at us, ❗️“Hey, excuse me, did you guys pay?” with a rude and discriminatory tone, also giving a very aggressive look. After we showed him the receipt, he did not apologize and just rudely walked away (6:20 PM). He should’ve checked the system instead of falsely accusing us. Also, during our meal, he said, “There is only one piece of sashimi left. If you don’t want to order desserts, I will give you the bill now so you can pay." We spent ⚠️ $160.00 for mediocre food with the ABSOLUTELY WORST service that I have ever experienced in a higher-end Japanese restaurant. The food was not very aesthetic either. I do not know if he has issues with Asians or females. I’m super heartbroken 💔 and hurt by his behavior. I was very much looking forward to this restaurant but will never come again! Our anniversary was totally ruined by him. Do NOT recommend!! 👎🏻

The food quality was satisfactory, but the service was extremely disappointing. The waiter exhibited unprofessional behavior. After being directed to use the online payment system, we completed our payment and proceeded to leave. The waiter then ran to the door and loudly questioned us in front of everyone about our payment status. This incident was highly disrespectful and could have been avoided if he had simply verified the payment through their system or informed us beforehand that we needed to notify them after paying online. This behavior was unacceptable and tarnished our dining experience. I hope we are the first and last people to experience this.

Probably the best food I've had on my trip to Chicago so far. I ordered off the vegetarian menu (so grateful they had one!) and got the udon. It was incredible. It was the perfect blend of savory, salty and spicy. If I lived in the area I literally would have taken the leftover broth home to make more noodles for it because it was so good. I also deeply enjoyed the Pavlova and elderflower ice cream despite my general lack of interest in meringue and adjacent desserts. Straight up, this was one of the best desserts I've ever had in my life. These things earned this place it's 5 stars from me but here are a few notes. Our waiter was not great. He started out very strong when he thoroughly reviewed the menu with us which was greatly appreciated. But then, we went long periods of time without seeing him despite the restaurant's lack of business. He seemed new and when we asked him a question he said he didn't know the answer and we had to prompt him to go find the answer out which we shouldn't have to do at a "high end" place like this. We budgeted two hours for this dinner and we still ran up against time. He encouraged us to use an online platform to pay for our checks which was fine other than that it included an additional fee which I thought was kind of ridiculous. Despite these issues, I would come here again because the food was amazing.

We were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. They did give us some champaign now here is the problem. My wife and I had a show to attend at a certain time. We got the tickets about a year in advance. We also flew to Chicago just for this show so we are not going to miss it. Someone took our food to the wrong table. So they had to remake our meal and I know accidents happen but we had to box our food up as soon as it arrived and leave. They did comp our apps so around 30$. In the end I paid 300+ to not eat dinner. I did not have time or I would have complained more but all well to late now. Over all I loved this Establishment and I'm not mad just sad. This is my 3rd visit to Momotaro, and it gets better and better every time. My son chose Momotaro for his 13th birthday celebration dinner. When we arrived, we were seated upstairs, which is quiet but my son wanted to sit in the main dining room. I spoke to the hostess to see if she could find a table for us. It was 7 pm, the dining room was packed, and other diners were checking in. Marissa was a pro, and she was able to find a way to make my kid's birthday dinner "the best I've ever had." while handling a dozen things at one time. She helped make what would have been a great dinner into a memorable dinner. The food was excellent as usual, and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I agree with my kid that this was one of the best dinners I have had in a long time.

The chefs special (nigiri with a twist) is AMAZING!!!!! Make sure you ask for David, he always knows what to recommend and he is very pleasant. Also, order the chicken thighs...you will thank me later!

I am absolutely infuriated after my recent dining experience at Momotaro. Let me be perfectly clear: our server, Chris, was the epitome of incompetence. I have never encountered such abysmal service in all my years of dining out. We arrived promptly for our 9:15 reservation and were swiftly seated, greeted by Chris. Initially, we managed to order our appetizers and drinks without much delay, which raised our hopes for a pleasant dining experience. I was particularly eager to dine at this highly acclaimed sushi restaurant, having traveled two hours just for this occasion. However, after that initial interaction, it felt as though Chris vanished into thin air. While neighboring tables were attended to multiple times by their servers, we were blatantly ignored. It was as if we were invisible patrons, unworthy of even a passing acknowledgment. Despite being seated for quite some time, Chris walked past us at least four times without taking our order. After an agonizingly long wait, Chris finally returned an hour later, prompted by my retrieval of the drink menu. Yet, the saga of incompetence did not end there. We endured an additional 15-minute wait just to receive a simple beer, and to compound our frustration, there was a mishap with my drink order. As if the sluggish service was not egregious enough, we were then informed, shortly after we were served our entrees, that the sushi bar would be closing in 15 minutes. Are you serious? This rushed approach was entirely unacceptable. Let me be clear about one thing: while the food itself was exceptional - the miso soup was divine, the Tako Su and Tsukune Dango were delectable, and the chef's seasonal sashimi selection boasted fresh, flavorful fish - the entire experience was tarnished by the abysmal service. We would have ordered more sushi rolls and desserts if service was better, but our hunger had been replaced by anger and our parking meter was about to expire. Despite the culinary delights, the overarching memory of our visit will be the appalling service we endured. Needless to say, I have no intention of returning. Let me tell you something, I have received better service at IHOP, Cracker Barrel, and even at fast food joints than what I experienced at Momotaro. It's utterly unacceptable and frankly insulting. Consider this my unequivocal warning to anyone contemplating a visit: unless you enjoy disappointment and frustration, steer clear of Momotaro.

Service seemed a bit chaotic more than normal. They were out of several dishes and the staff were not made aware until we ordered already and had been waiting. It was our anniversary dinner so this was pretty disappointing.

When a hamburger is the star and all the servers are Latin, and it takes 20 minutes for someone to come take your order…..it’s a big red flag. Overpriced, loud, and un-hip hipster crowd. The prices listed on Yelp for menu items are very misleading and much higher than listed. They destroyed my hamachi collar with overly salty teriyaki sauce. Uni pasta was decent but again overly salted and couldn’t taste the delicate ocean flavor of the uni. The $24 dollar burger was good, but again too heavy handed with the sauce. Go any where else for Japanese izikaya.

Food was good. Most restaurants have a benefit/health surcharge, we are accustomed to it. I adjust my tip accordingly. However, a checkout fee for using the bill paying app (Sunday app) is a bummer/ridiculous.

First time at Momotaro and loved it. Momotaro is a modern Japanese restaurant located in the West Loop. Japanese restaurant in Chicago. From the moment you enter to the time you leave, you are guaranteed to have a fantastic experience. Love the menu options and I liked that they have plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options as well. It's tapas style small plates that can be shared. Starting from Kuki To Buri, and Miso Soup to the Maneki Niko (dessert) everything tasted so fresh and wonderful. This is a super busy restaurant so get your reservations. Highly recommend this place.

I cannot say enough about the staff at this restaurant. My fiance and I were in the middle of a tough circumstance and the staff here made our day. They were not only accommodating, but they still managed to make our experience fun and memorable. Thank you guys for helping to celebrate our special day. Even though things did not go as planned, we ended up having one of the best romantic weekend get-aways.

Loved the ambiance/atmosphere that gave an upbeat vibe. Service was spot on, my water class was NEVER empty or even low. Loved how quickly the food came out and loved the hot hand towels at the end! Giving it 4 stars because I didn’t enjoy my cocktail at all and it was a little pricey for small portion sizes. Would definitely come back though!

Took Chris' sugesstion in regards to the Maguro, and I was definitely not disappointed with it's bright flavors and artful presentation. I opted for the chef's seasonal selection of sashimi, and it was delightful, there were several types of fish I had never tried before and they all came in a large, ice filled bowl, so that it wouldn't matter how long it took you to eat. The bowl did catch me by surprise when I touched it for the first time, since it was so very chilly. I will absolutely be ordering the fresh Wasabias a side the next time I visit. While I am adamantly against horseradish, the fresh Wasabi is so far different there's not a good way to really describe it. The fresh Wasabi comes much closer to a mild red radish than anything I camn really compare it to. For dessert! The Sudachi tart was adorable and delicious, the sudachi flavor is nearly a cousin to the lemon and lime, but mellower than both. It was really delightful, not too sweet, but just sweet enough to round out the meal. Next time I'm in town, I'm bringing everyone I brought with me to the city.

Momotaro offered the best dining experience I’ve found in Chicago. We ordered a number of items from their sushi menu, and every one of them was top-notch in both preparation and presentation. Their lamb was stellar, and their non-alcoholic cocktails were amazing as well. Their dessert menu was incredibly strong, and offered very creative dishes! On top of all of this, the entire staff went above and beyond. Our server, Justin took care of everything we needed and then some, and the complete wait staff team kept everything organized. I can’t understate how amazing Momotaro was!
