Muriel's Restaurant: A Taste of New Orleans Excellence I recently had the pleasure of visiting Muriel's Restaurant in the heart of Jackson Square, New Orleans. My partner and I opted for the tasting menu, eager to sample a variety of the restaurant's offerings. The house salad with vinaigrette was a solid start, though not particularly memorable. However, the real star of the appetizers was the shrimp crepes. They were an unexpected delight, bursting with flavor and perfectly executed. I'd highly recommend giving these a try - they're a testament to the kitchen's skill and creativity. For the main course, I savored the shrimp and grits, a classic New Orleans dish that Muriel's executed with finesse. The flavors were rich and satisfying, embodying the essence of Southern comfort food. My partner's double cut pork chop was the highlight of our meal. The meat was cooked to perfection, with a flavorful BBQ sear on the outside while remaining juicy and tender within. While delicious as is, we both agreed that substituting the potatoes with a creamy puree would elevate the dish even further. The meal concluded on a high note with a creme brûlée dessert, garnished with fresh fruit. It was a classic, well-executed finish to our culinary journey. One minor drawback was the price point. With a bottle of wine, the bill was a bit higher than anticipated. However, considering the quality of the food and the rich, authentic New Orleans flavors we experienced, it was ultimately worth the investment. As someone who values innovation and attention to detail in my own work, I appreciate these qualities in other fields. Muriel's demonstrates a commitment to culinary excellence. The restaurant's ability to balance traditional New Orleans cuisine with creative twists. In conclusion, Muriel's offers a dining experience that captures the essence of New Orleans cuisine. While it may be a splurge, it's an excellent choice for those seeking to immerse themselves in the flavors of the Big Easy. Muriel's delivers a transformative culinary experience that lingers in your memory long after the meal is over. 4.5 out of 5 stars (Google does not allow .5 stars) - A must-visit for food enthusiasts in New Orleans.

Excellent from top to bottom. The house salad was great. Not many people use Manchego cheese and it was excellent with the pomegranate vinaigrette. The turtle soup was good, but there is better in the city. The focaccia bread they give you doesn't even need butter because it is so tasty. My wife loved her shrimp and grits. They had a nice smoke flavor to them. The jerk chicken on a sweet potato puree was amazing. It may only be available during coolinary so try to get there before mid September. Dessert was impeccable. The nuts were toasted to perfection on both the pan perdu bread pudding and the pecan tart. Very historic building with a cool aesthetic. The cocktails were also great and reasonably priced.

Muriel's Jackson Square is a quintessential New Orleans experience. The moment you step inside, you're transported to a bygone era with the restaurant's elegant decor and warm ambiance. The menu is a celebration of Creole cuisine, offering a delightful array of flavors. The gumbo is a must-try, rich and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The crab cakes are another standout, with delicate crab meat and a crispy exterior. And don't forget to save room for dessert - the bread pudding is a decadent finale. The service is impeccable, with knowledgeable and attentive staff who make you feel like a cherished guest. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying a night out, Muriel's Jackson Square is sure to impress.

Service was great, presentation was great. I’ve never had such a disappointing food experience in a restaurant with this price point. I ordered the duck. It was extremely dry, I hesitate to say luke warm, as it wasn’t even warm. And the flavors were completely absent. Save your money, go to one of the multiple local spots in the neighborhood with a higher standard for half the price. “ edit - I originally had the service higher, but the server immediately gave up on our table as I sent my food back, they didn’t check on the other two at our table who ordered the same dish to see if theirs was any better, then slammed a “ complimentary “ desert on the table and said “ for the whatever “ This place is actually a joke.

Muriel's has some amazing gumbo and they usually have a special for around $30 for a 3 course meal. Some people don't know you can usually get a drink downstairs and go and enjoy the balcony upstairs and this is one of the best places to people watch all the interesting things going on down around Jackson Square below. They also have an interesting "Egyptian" themed room upstairs. Always a great place to go with a group, book an event, or just eat by yourself at the bar.

They have a bunch of art on the walls and feature high ceilings. The ventilation and AC here are great as I saw a brunch of mini AC machines every where. Some folks in my party opted for the pre fix menu. The highlights include the complimentary focaccia bread, shrimp and grits, pork chops, and duck. The meats were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The shrimp and grits dish is one of the best I've ever tasted. Grits were just so rich and tasty. Service here was on point. We had 1 that focused on our drinks and another 1 for our food. Phenomenal. Rarely do you go into a restaurant and get a whole experience, but this was it. We had Charlie as our server and he was wonderful - so friendly and helpful and was quick to ask me how I liked my drink and switch it out to find one that better fit my taste preferences. My husband had the duck hash and I had the omelet with blackened shrimp - as per Charlie’s suggestion - and we were thoroughly impressed. The musicians for the jazz brunch were delightful. And the manager was actively visiting all the tables and checked in with us many times. Every one was so warm and engaging and then you add in the magic of the seance room and the history - 10/10. They dropped the food off and didn’t come back to the table until the end of the meal. Regardless, the food was great and I would recommend.

Muriels Jackson Square's atmosphere was warm and inviting. The service was friendly, though occasionally semi-attentive, but it didn't overshadow the wonderful food. The shrimp and grits were an absolute must-try—perfectly cooked shrimp nestled in creamy, flavorful grits that were simply mouthwatering. The bread for the table was fresh and delicious, making for a fantastic start to our meal.

This place was highly recommended for Jazz Brunch but I was a little underwhelmed. The food was good, but not great. I do like that they had a 3-course prix-fixe option for brunch. I dined alone and felt like I had a different experience because of it. The jazz musicians skipped my table and I was tucked back into a corner where I couldn't really see them at other tables. I was a little bummed about that.

Exceptional and our truly fine meal in New Orleans - our gracious elderly tall thin male server was an angel and I’m sorry I can’t remember his name

This is a beautiful place with good, but not over, attentive service. I had the chicken cobb salad and the chicken was so well seasoned and perfectly cooked, I felt it really didn't need the blue cheese, bacon, avocado... I would leave all of that out of this dish ....and let that chicken shine! :-)

Most excellent restaurant in New Orleans! Was my very favorite of all, and the shrimp and grits were absolutely the most flavorful delicious meal I’ve ever had. With the turtle soup to top it off. Our waiter Charley was so attentive and so nice. Sunday Brunch is a must with live Jazz. This place has so much personality and a hidden gem on the balcony outside while sipping our drinks ! Even the manager stopped by to see how we were. I don’t leave many restaurant reviews, but this one deserves it!!!

Went there for Mother’s Day and our last meal of our vacation we were so glad we did. It was the best dinner in NOLA. Superb dining experience. The cocktails were great, dinner and service excellent. Didn’t see any ghosts but the desserts were exceptional. Highly recommend this restaurant.

What a great experience. Balcony dining on a beautiful May evening. Every single staff member was incredible, nice, friendly and knew how to treat guests. The food was also fantastic and reasonably priced.

You know as someone who is a native of New Orleans I’ve never say so much disrespect from a staff. It is very odd. I came here to eat and what has happened. Is that the maitrêD who is clearly racist him and whatever woman that works with him their behavior is unacceptable and rude. I find it very difficult to consume food when people treat you as if you are invisible . I am a lady of color and honestly, it just felt very unwelcoming. The service was terrible and more importantly, the woman who is getting everyone seated, was not only rude. She was racist. She was wearing a black floral skirt, almost brownish hair that streaks gray behavior was so poor my husband, and I simply had to walk away. Worst place ever definitely would never recommend

Food was good, Service extremely poor. Very conveniently brought over a 2018 wine instead of what was listed on menu and chosen by us, a 2015. Upon questioning, behavior was one of we are causing them inconvenience. Also, stated the cost of the 2015 and 2018 would be the same. Kept rushing us for food, even the the wine had not got our table yet. Gave them multiple options to recourse and they failed. A lot more happened on the service end, due to which will not recommend or go back. For 3 people we spend over $500. If the service remotely decent it may have been worth it.

We grabbed two very expensive drinks $65 with tip!!) at the bar in the back of the restaurant and then went up the terrace. From the terrace you can look down at Jackson Square and watch all the vendors and the tourist. We ended up staying for a second drink, although we did choose much more wisely and continued to watch.
