All the hard liquor drinks on the menu are neat. My rum was $12 on menu but $2 added for coke (?). Really. This is Maplewood and not Las Vegas. Disappointed. Staff felt like they were the bomb…. This is Maplewood not South Beach.

Hopped in for a late night espresso martini. Perfect vibe for that. And all was well

The food was fantastic and the service was great. Only drawback, we were a party of 10 and brought five bottles of wine as we thought it was still BYOB. The corking fees were 25, 35, 45, 55, 65 ($225 for bringing our own wine bottles to a BYOB). It really added up plus all the food we ordered. We asked the manager if he would consider charging 25 per bottle and was told NO he did not have the authority. I don't understand why a manager would not have the authority to do something. Other than that it was a great gastronomical experience.

This was our first time here. We received a gift card for Xmas. It took us from December to get a reservation. It was well worth the wait. From the kindness of the girl in front taking the reservation to the servers to the owner Mario. If I could give them 100 stars I would. Mario is as pleasant and professional as can be. I can't wait to go back. If you hav not tried this restaurant yet. Make sure you do!

Lorena's is an elegant restaurant that I like to have gone to several times. Until today I went again and one of their employees named Ana treated me badly and insulted me badly and I didn't understand why. Because the only thing I did was I raised my hand so she could see me and I asked her for two plates and she told me not to call it that way and she said more ugly things to me and I didn't like it and I didn't eat to my liking. I don't know how those guys hire. of people who treat their clients badly

Came for Sunday brunch and there was a jazz trio playing in the dining room. Had the moules frites (~$26) which was good, though I had to ask for bread & the bread was over grilled (I was a little surprised they didn't bring bread for the table). My friends had the pasta options and the dry aged burger, & enjoyed it. Id come back to try their dinner menu given I read the chefs were ex Daniel Boulud.

I'm over it. Not going back. Offensively overpriced. The $21 burata appetizer that had 3 tablespoons of said cheese, 2 asparagus spears, 2 sprigs of mache, a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds and chopped pistachios. It was ok. The $44 vegetarian risotto- entrée size. Also ok but garlicky. And the $62 entrée sized crepe with crab. Good but too mushroomy. Great, friendly service, lovely atmosphere. Drinks a little strong for my taste.

Disappointing experience due to food contamination, and poor customer service from Management. Yesterday, my husband and I went to Lorena’s in hopes of enjoying a nice dinner on his birthday; however the evening quickly took a turn for the worst after finding a MARBLE in my entree, but what truly ruined the night was the response from “management”. I ordered the linguine with shrimp and lump cramp; after 2 bites, I noticed a hard glass object in my food. When the manager was notified, he came to my husband and I’s table only to deny it was possible that the marble got there due to any fault of theirs “because there’s not even marbles in here”- embarrassing us, and insinuating that I/we put it there- never once simply apologizing for not only the choking hazard, but contaminating my food. As my husband and I got ready to leave, the “manager” returns to our table to admit that after “investigating”, the marble feel into the entree from where they place their food tickets. The manager expected that we were going to pay for the horrible birthday experience, and we had to suggest a compensated meal. We left Lorena’s hungry, and with a horrible taste in our mouths- not due to the food, but simply deplorable customer service and poor food handling. This was all after a less than satisfactory experience with their gritty muscles that almost chipped a tooth. Disappointed to say the least…

Service was great! Restaurant is beautiful. The ravioli is not very good but the croissants are.

The food was OK, we had no service, we had to ask for bread after sitting at a table for 20mins, other guests came after us and received service, we were totally ignored and I'm not sure if its due to being colored folks. Mario stopped by the table to take drinks order and food order then disappeared till the bill was paid, he came by to collect the tip. The restaurant is over-rated and over priced for this area, however it do seem they have regular's who came in and got full service. There are lots of other restaurants in NJ with better service and food prices. Very disappointing....I would not recommend, Good Luck!

Went for my adult daughter’s birthday. We were six. Delicious and original food.. I recommend the butternut roast and the Bellini. Salvador, the manager and the staff were exceptional. Will go back. No doubt.

I've been looking for a restaurant that serves roasted beef bone marrow. I found this restaurant during my search. The atmosphere was very nice and Kelly the barmaid had great customer service. The bone marrow was very good, just what I was anticipating. I believe a gentleman who was possibly the manager checked in on all of the customers in the restaurant including a couple sitting not too far away from me at the bar. Never once did he stop by to say hello or ask if everything was OK. I was truly disappointed especially knowing that Maplewood is a town of diversity. This experience may deter me from visiting this venue in the future but the food and Kelly made me feel very welcome. Management customer service disappointed.

I came during brunch for my birthday with my partner. We had a mushroom crepe for an appetizer, ham and brie sandwich, and eggs benedict. Wow! Delicious food, polite staff, and jazz was playing in the background. Recommend!

Wonderful lunch at Lorena's. The food was quite good. Loved the butternut squash hummus starter and the mussels poached with a hint of pernod were some of the best I've had. The waitstaff was attentive, pleasant, and helpful, and the ambience was relaxed yet refined. I will return!

Really nice experience, went with my family and we ordered mushroom/crab crepe, mussels with fries, salad of the day, quinoa bowl, roasted beef sandwich and a chocolate cake as a desert, everything was excellent. The jazz live music was so enjoyable. I would recommend it and will comeback soon.

Loved this restaurant! One of my new favorites in NJ. We will definitely be back. I think very reasonably priced for French fare and the ambiance. We visited for the first time around the holiday season and loved the vibes. I made a reservation for the dining room (recommended instead of the front room for a more elegant vibe). We were one of the first seatings so we got to see the beautiful restaurant and decor without the hustle and bustle. Great menu choices here. Hard to find a French restaurant with these classics on a menu in NJ. Only wish they had a good foie gras on the menu. I think there was an option but it was seared. To start we had a burrata from the specials menu and the escargot. Both were so delicious and the burrata was fresh. They also served us bread and butter which we also used to dip in the leftover escargot sauce! Although I will say the bread isn’t the best bread and maybe lacking in freshness. For mains, I had the filet mignon, ordered medium rare. It came out closer to medium and it was perfectly melting in your mouth. I didn’t love the crust on top but my parents tried it and liked the contrasting texture. My mom had the chicken and my dad had the duck. I tried a little bit of everything and I think the duck was my favorite. I also loved the pomme puree side that came with the steak. So good. The portion sizes were also really great, we even had leftover chicken. For dessert we had to go for a creme brûlée and also ordered the apple tart. The creme brûlée was delicious. The apple tart wasn’t my favorite but we finished everything. I also ordered tea and it came in a pot, so we asked for an extra teacup to share. Our service was very attentive and very pleasant. No complaint. We parked on the street, not sure if they had a lot, but we had no issues.

When Lorena’s was a small neighborhood venue with a limited but artisanal menus one could not find fault with the taste, texture or presentation of the food. It was truly exceptional. Now however, upon expansion and popularity, the restaurant has taken on airs that are more appropriate to its former quality while the food has lessened by half. No longer worth the time nor the price. Sadly disappointed though we have tried again and again, living as we do so close to the front door in Maplewood.

Had a very nice New Year's Eve dinner here. Food was cooked exactly as requested and was delicious. Atmosphere was great, with live music that was not overbearing. A little spendy, but it was worth it.

I love this place, particularly dining in the bistro. We often come with another couple and in every case all four meals are voted winners. I wish it was less noisy but that is the result of a popular restaurant. That crepe is just heaven.. I order it often. It never disappoints.. so much to try.. hopefully I will have time!!

Four of us loved our meals! I had the crepe appetizer, their signature dish. Delish! I ordered the salmon for dinner. I asked for it rare and it came out pretty rare… it was so juicy and savory….I honestly think it was the best salmon dish I’ve had in a restaurant. Sooo good. The other diners loved their meals too. We sat in a booth… lots of activity by the bar. Service was almost too good but the waitress got the message that we wanted to stay for a while. It’s worth the prices here when the food is this good.

Went here on a Sunday night for my wife's 65th birthday; it was great. The service (Laura or Lara?) was outstanding. The dining area was very nice, soft modern I would say. For dinner, I had the duck. I love duck; order it a lot at restaurants. The preparation here was among the best I had ever had. The braised red cabbage with the duck was just great. My daughter, a vegetarian, had the Butternut Squash Roast and my wife the Halibut. All diners were very satisfied. Would definitely recommend Lorena's.

I really want to like this place more. Great bar, nice cocktails, solid burger... But I just have not enjoyed the entrees any time I've been. The pumpkin ravioli this last occasion was, put simple, not good. Giant pool of butter, overwhelming drizzle of balsamic, almost no taste of pumpkin and it seemed to be missing salt. I will come back; I will sit at the bar again. People are nice and it's a beautiful spot. Just want it to be better.

This is a good local restaurant on the upscale side. Pretty expensive! Full bar, nice menu and service. A little uncomfortable seating on the booth benches, you are in too deep seating on them. The food is good, it's just nothing special about it. There is no dish that we tried that I want to come back for. All of it is nicely cooked but, escargot was completely under seasoned. The burger was properly cooked but, it didn't' have any crunchy elements like lettuce or onions or tomatoes? The scallops were nice and soft, but the sides were not crunchy at all. I guess if you are going to pay $150 per person you expect much better food, it's a little attention to detail that makes restaurants from being good to being great.

The food was great and we found the menu pretty exciting with a lot of french favorites. The wine list was really good for the NJ suburbs. Lots of interesting bottles and wines by the glass. I was not impressed when a $20+ red wine by the glass was served in a white wine glass. That's not right if you're trying to portray yourself as a serious restaurant with a serious wine list. We also found some of the decor and furnishings in need of a spruce up. The leather chairs in particular were beat up. Overall a good spot but needs work to be great.

Absolutely delicious meal. We got 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 1 dessert. We loved every bite. Warm cozy atmosphere in the bar area, yet very chic and upscale decor. Service could not have been any better, everything was seamless. Noise level was incredibly low considering how busy the room was. My favorite restaurant, the food is simply superb! But, on some of the dishes the portion sizes are smaller than they used be

A Wonderful comfortable restaurant with amazing service and delicious food. My steak was amazing as were the pork chop , fish duck and appetizers. Mario and the staff took great care of us. Definitely a 10 star experience. I highly recommend 🍷

Went here recently and it was good. The portions are good size for individual. We ordered some appetizers to share. Their salmon tartare is good, the butternut squash hummus was delicious, escargot had good flavor, the pork chop was so juicy and flavorful, the duck hmmm so nice, the mushroom soup was very good and the filet mignon was spot on. Would return here again. Cozy town center and street parking.

This was our first time here and it definitely did not disappoint. The food speaks for itself and the service was phenomenal. Amanda our waitress made the experience exceptional. We had the goat cheese and spinach salad, crepe with chanterelles, crab meat and buerre blanc sauce, my wife had the muscles (which she loved), and I thoroughly enjoyed the duck. The complementary coffee panna cotta was the perfect ending to the meal. We can't wait until our next visit.

Lorena’s is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in NJ. Some of my favorite meals the fillet mignon and the pork chop. Soups are very good. The rib eye is ok. I feel like the duck needs improvement. The cheese burger and burrata salad are nice. The cocktails are always good. The butternut squash roast is a very nice vegetarian option. I feel like their complementary bread takes away from the experience, never warm enough so it lacks freshness. Baguettes can be tricky after they are exposed to air for a while. The service is always very good.

Love the new location ! My food was delicious - I ordered the crepe with crab, the duck, and the coconut pana cotta. Would I come back? Most definitely. Great options on the menu. My husband had the risotto and linguine.

Phenomenal food and service. A gem in the burbs.

Perfection! From beginning to end. The bone marrow and crepe starters were both great. The crepe was earthy, rich and buttery and light all at once. The bone marrow !! Chef's kiss. Both are a must-order in my opinion. The salmon was a beautiful marriage of flavors and textures. Ahh and the coffee Panna cotta , nice light ending to the meal even while being 'thanksgiving day' full. Our waitress was super sweet! The cucumber gimlet is very refreshing and a nice starter. I recommend it all.

Bad experience there led to a visit to the ER for an allergic reaction. Do not recommend for people with food allergies. I cannot reply, so adding here that the response from Lorena’s suggests they do not realize that tahini contains sesame so their hummus appetizer also contains sesame.

This is one of the best fine dining restaurant in central NJ. Let me elaborate, I’ll start from a small thing. We were 30 minutes late into our Saturday 9pm reservation, when I asked our waiter, Mario, what time they close, he gave me a smile and said “don’t worry about it, we close when our doors when last client leaves”, we were not pressured at any point to go, even though we were the last one to leave (we actually had to ask for check). We have ordered 5-6 appetizers, our favorite was Fois Gras, all other appetizers were great except escargot. I can imagine we were quite annoying when we requested to change of seating in the middle of dinner for “bogus” reason of clogged ears episode (but were accommodated). Entrée was phenomenal, didn’t expect any less from the restaurant. When ordered duck, we expected a full bird but it was a filet, that was not fully trimmed of fat but still delicious. Everyone else has sea food (mussels and scallops), that was cooked to perfection. We have celebrated our friends bday (who was not able to attend!!!!) so we got a free delicious coffee cake. Great service, thank you to the staff and their mentor, amazing atmosphere, smooth running restaurant. Definitely recommend for any occasion. Ps. Pls replace peeling chairs, they have no business in your dining area.

Way overpriced. The restaurant looks very nice, but I am sorry to say the food wasn't worth it. They are also very stingy. I work for a french restaurant group in Manhattan, and as a Francophone, I have been eating French cuisine my whole life, and this is not it. However It may just be what we chose on the menu, so they still get 3 stars.

The atmosphere was great and the staff was very friendly. The oysters were not as fresh as expected but distinct to the taste. The main entrees were good. My wife had the Salmon toast. The onions could have been cut in half instead of a whole slice to balance out the flavors. Beside that the presentation and taste were spot on. I had the petite ribeye frites medium rare but came out medium well. The butter on top of the steak is a little over powering with the blue cheese if you let it melt completely. My son had the macaroni and cheese which was very good. Onto dessert, we had creme brulee and the raspberry cheese cake. Out of the two, the creme brulee was the best which took us by surprise since it did not look like your typical brulee but the coffee flavor paired with the white chocolate crunch was delightful. The cocktails were delicious and carefully curated. Over all it was a great experience paired nicely with a live jazz band .

Had a lovely evening at Lorena's. Jennifer is the absolute best bartender! Delicious cocktails, wonderful personality, engaged and so polite! Got apps at the bar - the crabmeat & mushroom crepe is divine, oysters are the cleanest & best shucked that I've had anywhere. A lovely time indeed!

One of the top restaurants in our area, where the staff and owners take a clear pride in what they do. Quality of ingredients, excellence in preparation and presentation make the difference. Most NJ restaurants focus on a nice space and serve large portions of mediocre food. Lorena’s is different. Wine list is good, too.

We were a party of 8, plus 2 children and went to Lorena's for brunch on a Sunday. The service was good and attentive to all our needs, including helping us with 2 high chairs. The atmosphere was lovely since there was a small jazz band playing during the time we were there. The food was a good quality, but not excellent, where the price doesn't quite match the food delivered. All the food and drinks were delivered in a timely manner, and servers all friendly. Saying that, we would return to eat again.

Go to Lorena's if you want the very best. We are regulars, but this really is a special place. Umberfto Campos, the chef, is gifted and focused on all of the aspects necessary for a night to remember. The food, particularly the fish, is extraordinary. Umberto uses the finest ingredients and features his original presentations, which he changes seasonally.The halibut in May and September are far different in taste. The wine list is very good and the staff are always top flight.

The atmosphere and service are truly special. And that's what you're paying for. The food itself, though elegantly presented, is worth only 3.5 stars. While we weren't impressed with the risotto, ravioli, shrimp bisque, and filet mignon, the desserts were fabulous, and they kindly comped us a panna cotta with a candle in celebration of our anniversary. Everyone around us was celebrating their anniversary too. If you care more about atmosphere and service, you will love this place. But if you crave delicious, memorable food, this isn't the spot.

The food is great , the service is ok . I wish I could come and eat more at that place however I was flabbergasted when the staff walked up to me and complain because the tip that I left was 2$ less than the recommended 20% . Unfortunately I’m not that rich and I tip the amount I can afford . So if you are spending your last dollars to treat yourself be ready to get embarrassed by their staff if you dont tip the amount they like .

Ooh La La! We loved the food, ambiance, service, and location. A night out or special occasion, this place is a must try! For the exception of the petite ribeye, everything else was amazing. They made up for it with a couple of delicious desserts on the house. It was a happy birthday for me at Lorena's, thank you! We'll be back..

The food and service were amazing...10/10. Highly recommend for an upscale dining experience. Personally, I will come back but not with a larger group. There were only 2 things that our group felt off about. First was that the restaurant tries to go for the "uppity" vibe which also draws those type of customers. Because we had a large group and was on the younger side of the crowd and definitely not the silent type, there was a table near us that kept staring and glaring at us like it was inappropriate to talk louder than a whisper. I know that the restaurant can't control that but it certainly does not have the inclusive feel which SOMA boasts to be. Secondly, we were early for our reservation so we were by the bar prior to being seated. Since some of us were standing in the walking path, we were told by the staff that they wanted to seat us since they didn't want us standing by the bar. Maybe there is a code issue with this, I don't know. It could have been said differently that didn't make us feel that we weren't wanted there.

Went there for Mother's Day. Excellent menu. Tad pricey but the food was delicious so we can't complain. Will definitely be going back.

I went here after it being recommended by several neighbors. The service was terrible. We had a party of eight and waited an hour and a half before receiving the main course. The food was mediocre. For the quality of the food and the service it is significantly over priced. I do not recommend and I would not go back.

Regular customer for years, have loved the food, staff and have had many fond memories. Unfortunately, Lorena’s is turning into a very expensive Starbucks. Dining experience is as important to me as the food. While trying to enjoy an evening out, a patron decided to put her laptop next to me and proceed to conduct a 30 minute interview with M&T Bank. I asked the hostess, bartender and even Chef Umberto if they allow this behavior, apparently they do. Totally unacceptable for a legendary establishment.

Update: Third and last visit. We were rushed and forgotten. Service was HORRIBLE. ----------- My wife and I recently moved to the area and this would be our second time at Lorena ’s. Our first visit was about 2 months ago and it left a sour taste in my mouth. The service was mediocre. Our waitress wasn't attentive at all. We felt rushed and forgotten. She never checked on us or refilled our water or wine. While we could see her chatting with other employees. After this bad experience, my wife and I agreed to never set foot at Lorena's. But last week our friends were celebrating a birthday and we decided to join them for dinner, and I'm GLAD we did. This was a totally different experience thanks to Sal, our waiter. He made us feel special. He was very polite and knowledgeable about the food and wine. We went with his recommendations and we weren't disappointed. Every dish we ordered was superb and very tasty. I had the venison steak which was the night's special, it was tender and it paired perfectly with our wine as recommended by Sal. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will be back next week hoping to get the same experience.

All around great experience. The atmosphere was business casual but welcoming, our waiter Laura was so friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was absolutely delicious. I even brought home a dish for my husband, and he can't wait to experience Lorena's for himself. At a time when restaurant quality has fallen off, it's so refreshing to know places like Lorena's still exist! I will definitely be back.

New location and new menu and a full bar! We had an excellent lunch and dinner in the new bistro. The service was top notch, the cocktails were outstanding and the new bistro menu was a nice addition to their offerings. I enjoyed the BlackBerry 75 cocktail and the passion fruit margarita. On the lunch menu we enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich and the braised beef sloppy joe sandwich. Can’t wait to go back and try their dinner menu.

Such a nice experience! Went for my birthday and it was a perfect romantic setting, the food was SO good, a great bottle of wine was recommended. Perfect night!

Never disappoints! I always get the duck. The appetizers and cocktails are wonderful too. the bar and renovated space is SO much better suited to the Lorena's experience vs the original space. Perfect for date night or group dinner w/ friends! Long live Lorena's!

Food is excellent (not complaining) but not quite as unique as it was in their old location (maybe 2 years ago). Service also spot-on.

An interesting cocktail started our celebration bunch. The entrees are well balanced and delicious. The room is comfortable and attractive. The staff is helpful and attentive.

Excellent food, attentive and accommodating staff, and lovely ambiance. Came in on a busy Saturday evening without a reservation, waited less than 15 minutes and the hostess kindly managed to get us a table (instead of spots at the bar) when we mentioned we just wanted a quick meal. Our server was extremely kind and the food came out quickly, considering the restaurant was full. Highly recommend the figs & burrata (one of the specials for an appetizer, refreshing and light) and the duck entree (one of my favorites, and I'm very particular about duck). We didn't have time to stay for dessert but we will certainly be returning on an evening when we have more time to enjoy! Thank you for a beautiful meal and stellar service.

Aside from the deserts, French onion soup and the great service this is one of the worst meals I’ve had in recent memory. It’s bad enough that the post office was replaced with this eyesore of a building, but now they gotta push overpriced bad food out of it too?? Smh

It was a snowy day and our 38th wedding anniversary. We had a 7:00 reservation with Lorena's. Instead of closing the restaurant due to the weather, they allowed us to move our seating to 5:00. Thank you! We had the small room to ourselves for 1 1/2 hours which was very nice. Wait staff, perfection. Little additions like shots of squash soup for starters and berry/mint cleanser, very nice. I really enjoyed my bronzino entre- quite perfect. My husband relished his lamb special. Very nice desserts and portion size all perfect. We will definitely return and bring friends. The prices are in keeping with fine dining.
