Small wedding venue, however, very nice. The staff was very good.

Visit the Blue Heron Tavern at the North Shore House for dinner, you won't be disappointed! My husband and I love dining here when we want to treat ourselves. We always try their cocktail specials, get an appetizer, dinner and dessert - leave no stone unturned at this hidden gem! The food is second to none and the atmosphere is both sophisticated charming with breathtaking lake views.

Pretty view. Outside area was not tidy. Went out to have a drink before dinner. Seemed to be a bit untidy. Dinner was delicious but service was just okay. Prices are beyond...umm... expensive for what you get.

I recently attended an event at North Shore House and was blown away by the venue’s beautiful setting and quality of the food and beverages served. All of the staff were attentive, professional, and friendly. The outdoor cocktail hour and indoor reception were beautifully set, and the view of the lake is spectacular! I would highly recommend booking an event with NSH if you want a beautiful, memorable experience that you and your guests will talk about for years to come!

Well this one is hard. First time here. Enjoyed everything about this place especially the ambiance on the lake. Food was top notch. Nothing like it out here that I am aware of. You will have to pay though. So sad that most won't be able to afford such a nice place. Expect at least 200.00 for two dinners with 2 cocktails each.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere

We were here for the first time recently. 10 minutes from the center of Newton, it's quite accessible. The location is charming, we sat at a lovely 2 top at the windows, with a great view of the lake. We had the calamari and tuna tartare apps, both were great but the tuna was our favorite. My wife's scallops were prepared perfectly, and my bison steak was excellent. At a restaurant with this price point, I was anxious that the entrees might be small, but my bison was big enough that I was pleasantly overfull after finishing it. The drinks were delicious, my sidecar was tasty and didn't skimp on volume or liquor. Be aware, we spent just over $200 for a 2 person date dinner, but I felt it was worth the price. We'll certainly be back.

Fantastic evening at the Pizza on the Patio. Delicious pizza, tasty cocktails, beautiful views, and attentive service. I listed this as the North Shore House - same location but it was the Blue Heron Tavern.

North Shore House was absolutely stunning. I was able to photograph Melanie and Daniels wedding over the summer and I haven't been that inspired by a wedding venue in a long while. The staff was present and helpful the entire time, even driving us from the bridal suite to the first location and throughout the grounds. The ceremony area is truly a dream, overlooking the water with mountains in the background. The food was also delicious and they were very accommodating to the vendors. I hope to be back there soon!

My husband and I got married on Sunday, October 1, 2023 and we could not be happier with the North Shore House! Working with Eric, Kelly and Louise was such a pleasure and they truly treated us like family. From the staff, the gorgeous venue, the food selection, the weather, our wedding was more perfect than we could have ever imagined. Our guests can’t stop raving about the food, service and how stunning the North Shore House is. Kelly was always so prompt to answer my calls and emails and was so exact and on point with each day of detail even after some last minute changes on my end! And Louise paid so much attention to detail as the maitre D! Tommy and I didn’t have to worry about a thing expect enjoying our day. She made us feel like guests of honor at our very own gorgeous wedding! We just adore this place and truly had the greatest experience. We can’t wait to come back each year for our anniversary!

I stayed at the North Shore House’s Inn and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. I cannot fault them for a single thing. Everything from the beautiful foyer to the detailed design in each room was immaculate. The bed in my room also may have been the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Seriously. The staff was so incredibly kind and accommodating. I would highly recommend this venue and inn!

We knew that the North Shore House would be our wedding venue from the moment we walked in for the first time. We fell in love right away with how beautiful it is, both inside and especially outside by the lake. We were already convinced by that alone, then we met Eric, Kelly, Emma, and the rest of the staff who were so kind, professional, accommodating, and wonderful to work with that we were even more certain. We then went for a food tasting and were blown away. The food is amazing. (Don’t just book a wedding there for the food, go to the tavern and have dinner there. You’ll be glad you did.) Every single aspect of the planning from day one was made so easy by the staff. They made us feel special, like we were their most important clients ever. The people there are just absolutely the best, that can’t be emphasized enough. Then there’s the venue itself. The grounds outside by the lake where our ceremony and cocktail hour were are absolutely gorgeous. It’s all very well kept and you won’t find a more beautiful spot to get married. Inside where we had the reception has all been refinished and is just stunning. We loved the atmosphere and the vibe of the whole place. It’s not glitz and glamour, it’s classy and elegant and perfect. There are also a dozen or so rooms on the second and third floors, which we loved because we were able to stay the night with our family and friends after the wedding. The rooms are all refinished recently too and are equally beautiful. Let’s talk food. We did all night hors d'oeuvres rather than a traditional dinner, and the food was amazing. There was passed food as well as stations, and never a shortage. Everyone there said the food was great, zero complaints. There was so much, I couldn’t possibly list everything we had so I won’t even try. But it was SO. GOOD. If you’re thinking that maybe this is your kind of place for your wedding, don’t even think twice about it. There is no maybe. It’s definitely the place. We can’t thank the staff enough for everything they all did to make our wedding perfect. We love that we can even go back, eat at the tavern, and book a room for an anniversary perhaps. We couldn’t be happier that we chose The North Shore house!

The North shore house is a spectacular venue, weather you are interested in having a quiet dinner with phenomenal food and drink options or if you are looking to have an event with breathtaking scenery and beyond excellent service. We held our wedding at the North shore house this May and it was hands down the best decision ever. From the gorgeous views, lush gardens, elevated cuisines and cocktails, to the impeccably accommodating service, everything was beyond what we could have dreamed for our special day. The management and staff of the North Shore house were so professional and welcoming every step of the way in planing for our wedding. They truly made our wedding day the most magical day ever. We high recommend to anyone and everyone to consider hosting your wedding here.

My daughter got married at North Shore House on 6/2/2023. What a beautiful venue. The day was beautiful and perfect (except for the florist which had nothing to do with the venue). The staff was beyond accommodating, and EMMA was beyond amazing!!! Thank you ALL so much for making my baby girl's wedding ceremony absolutely perfect! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

After dining here several times, I can most definitely say I would recommend this place. What a lovely atmosphere, staff and venue. The drink menu was very impressive and the food was absolutely delicious. Our most recent trip was a party of eleven and they accommodated every one of us. We had cocktails, wine, appetizers, specials, entree, dessert and coffee. Such a memorable time had by the entire family, so much fun.

North Shore House is where my husband and I had our wedding in October! It was a beautiful, unforgettable day. Kelly, Eric, and Louise were so accommodating, helpful, and always open to making our day personalized and unique. The food was absolutely delicious. All of our wedding guests raved about the cocktail hour food and plated dinner. The patio and grass area for cocktail hour was spacious and our guests felt comfortable enough to spread out on the property. Everyone loved the lake view. NSH staff were attentive and able to pivot for any change in plan. It was a windy afternoon and Kelly and Eric’s team were on top of making sure our aisle runner was safely secured for all guests and bridal party before and during ceremony. We highly recommend having a small after party post-reception outdoors with fire pits! We had the small after party for our closest friends and bridal party. It was fun but also relaxing after a long day. One of our wedding guests loved NSH house so much that they are considering coming up to NJ from FL and having their own wedding there. We loved NSH. It is such a special place. A hidden gem!

I had the most amazing meal ever tonight at The North Shore House. We started with a round of perfectly portioned appetizers. My favorite was the tuna tartar served in a light crisp wonton, followed by a close second favorite of crisp quail with lingonberries. For dinner, I had a juicy, buttery, savory pork chop that was perfectly seasoned, seared and sauced. The restaurant offers a romantic, homey, yet sophisticated environment with historical and classy decor.They have a great wine list at a variety of prices for every budget. I really want to keep this hidden gem to myself, but a place like this deserves accolades and great reviews.North Shore is a cozy inn and restaurant, tucked away in the Mountains of Newton, NJ on a gorgeous little lake with fantastic views, staff and management. Everyone is so friendly, accommodating and welcoming. This place is so deserving of rave reviews. Go if you can. You won’t be disappointed.

We were married at the north shore house 9.30.22 and it was nothing short of perfection From beginning to end Kelly and Eric were so helpful, every little detail was taken care of, went above and beyond for us and really made our day so special. They helped us with details I didn’t even think of and made everything go SO SMOOTH The food, incredible, the grounds, so well kept, the drinks, strong! I am so grateful to have been able to have such a special day at such a beautiful location, I don’t think I could’ve asked for anything more! Most importantly, we had fun, so so much fun

We could not have asked for more from a venue!! Everything from the attention to guests, to the food, to how smoothly our big day went was absolutely amazing. We did not have a wedding planner so chose to go with the top package available where the venue acted as our planner and we couldn't have been happier. We got rave reviews from all our guests and were so happy with how amazing the day was. If you are looking to get married in this area we highly recommend The North Shore house and Kelly!!!

A big thank you to the Blue Heron Tavern team for making our wedding dinner amazing. From drinks and appetizers to dinner and dessert, everything was delicious and had us all raving and sharing plates. We also so appreciate the thoughtful touches that went above and beyond: joining tables for our group of 10, seating us in a private corner of the dining room, giving us time and space to open gifts, helping my family with the elevator to make the evening accessible for my grandma, and even turning off the AC unit near us so we were comfortable. We had such a great night and are excited to return for special occasions in the future.

Stayed at the Inn for a wedding for two nights. The bride covered 50% of the bill. The staff overcharged me and now I have been calling for two weeks to try and recover the funds. What I have found out is there is no actual staff manning this venue. There is one girl Ebba who works the front desk who told me shes unsure how to reimburse the money but it will be reimbursed. I have called back many times to no avail. I will be going to my bank today to take further action. If you are looking for a valid venue with ACTUAL HUMANS you will be able to contact DO NOT I repeat DO NOT go with North Shore House. Incompetent is an understatement.

Excellent venue for dining, weddings, overnight getaways, and simple lake sailing, boating... that slow relaxed feeling. The air is so refreshing on dry warm days and evenings. Such a beautiful place.

What a fantastic restaurant, right here in the Newton area! In Sussex County on the whole, there is very slim pickings for quality eateries. North Shore House is pricey, but the food, service, and location (right on beautiful Swartswood Lake) make it worth every penny. Well done to the ownership and staff!

Loved this place. Here for a wedding - so beautiful. The grounds are groomed with detail in mind and of course putting a lake was the perfect accent touch,, 😁. The hotel, event space is truly impeccably appointed. The food was really very, very good. Excellent choices available - quite the selection! .... the service, the wait staff - worked tirelessly. Super friendly, polite and very attentive to the guests . Even the young, "summer" crew.... really had their "A" game on display. They made my visit, my experience, most enjoyable... thank you one and all!

We are so glad we found North Shore House! Our wedding was postponed due to COVID, and due to circumstances at the pervious venue we had to move. From the last-minute visit in the middle of December to view the venue, through leaving Sunday after the wedding, they made everything as simple and easy as possible. We chose to stay the whole weekend, arriving Friday and leaving Sunday. We did our rehearsal dinner and after party on site, and utilized the hotel rooms above the restaurant as well. The hotel was amazing, and had some of the most comfortable beds we have slept in in a long time. Each meal was just excellent. Dietary needs were always considered, and all the food was fresh and delicious. The flourless/allergen friendly chocolate cake was mind blowing. Everything contributed to a great experience. The hotel rooms, the food, the staff, the location, everything was incredible, and every person who works here was so kind, helpful, and accommodating. Guests are still telling us about something or someone that made the day even more memorable (beyond the whole marriage part), and we have received so many comments on how the staff went above and beyond to ensure our guests had the best possible experience. There was a bad traffic accident that closed the road outside the venue, and a downed tree that damaged some power lines, but Eric had such seamless coordination with the local fire and police departments that as the bride I didn’t know anything was wrong at first. We had to delay the start of the ceremony due to one of the guest busses being stuck, but Louise generously offered to extend our end time to accommodate the delay for no extra cost. We cannot recommend enough that you should hold your wedding or other celebration at North Shore House. Be it for the day or for the weekend, Eric, Kelly, Louise, and everyone else made us feel incredibly well taken care of, and we hope you allow them to do the same for you on your special day!

The place is amazing. My son had a wedding there and we could not have asked for a better place. Service was above and beyond. The staff was amazing. And the place was just so perfect. HIGHLY Recommend it.

Beautiful space for an intimate wedding

Wow! Lovey place! We spur of the moment needed to stay in the area and found this place. And we loved it so much we are going back in June. We stayed the night and had dinner at the restaurant. The innkeepers are the best! And so friendly and accommodating. The food was amazing!

One of the best locations in North Jersey for a wedding. Eric, Kelly, and the whole staff have been amazing during the planning and my fiance and I are beyond excited for our special day in August! Not to mention the food and rooms are outstanding. I would highly recommend the North Shore to anyone!!!

My husband and I got married at the North Shore House on December 11th, 2021. I don’t even know where to begin to tell you how amazing our experience with NSH was. We knew from the very beginning of wedding planning, that having our big day at the North Shore House was a must. Kelly, Eric and Louise were amazing to work with and helped pull together every little detail from start to finish! The amount of hard work that went in to decorating inside the hall for the holidays truly showed, Louise made the most beautiful garland and wreaths to pull it all together! Both Kelly and Eric were super responsive and helpful from start to finish wether it was choosing table cloth and napkin colors to what goes best together for our menu and everything in between! We didn’t have the best weather for our wedding and we were both pretty bummed about not being out on the point for our ceremony, but they went above and beyond to make inside absolutely perfect! (Including bringing three Christmas trees inside to make for the perfect backdrop). The food - I can’t tell you how many compliments we got on the menu! We had some vegan / vegetarian guests and one guest with an allergy. The NSH staff made sure that the vegans / vegetarians had a special plate from their restaurant menu just for them. And when they learned there was a guest with an allergy they brought out a dish made just for him. Our families loved and talked about our wedding for weeks to follow! You can tell that the Van Der Haeghen family and NSH staff goes above and beyond for all of their couples, we are so thankful we chose the North Shore House for our wedding! We highly recommend anyone to plan a special event or wedding at the North Shore House!

The food here is absolutely amazing. We visited here for my boyfriend's birthday and both agreed this is the best meal we've had out in years. Everything, drinks included, was amazing. We'll be sure to tell friends and family about this place.

Absolutely fantastic! The Filet Mignon with Lemon Lobster Hollandaise, Pistachio Lamb Chop and the Andouille Gumbo were outstanding! The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly! The icing on the cake was the beautiful view of Swartswood Lake. Highly recommend!

I had my wedding at North Shore House and it was 100% perfection! The entire planning process was a breeze - Eric and Kelly were on top of everything from day one. During the initial process they weren’t pushy and the family-owned work ethic really shows through in everything that they do. Firstly, the venue is absolutely gorgeous! The lakeside views are to die for, and the indoor space is just as beautiful. The bridal suite was finely detailed - they really though of every single detail when renovating it. The lighting is great for photos, there are so many mirrors for getting ready, a hair/makeup chair with plenty of outlets, the bathroom has double sinks and great toiletries - really top notch from top to bottom. While it did rain on my wedding day and we had to move the ceremony inside, the views were still outstanding. They tried to do everything in their power to wait as long as possible to make the call because they knew how much we wanted it outside, and I appreciated their flexibility so much. They made the indoor ceremony as beautiful and special as humanly possible. During the cocktail hour they made sure that my husband and I (and our bridal party/ family) had drinks and food while we finished photos. And speaking of food, it is five star quality - both at the restaurant and the wedding, the best meals I’ve ever had. Their chef is amazing and took into consideration that myself (and a few guests) have food allergies and made it clear to us what was safe for us to eat. And the service...it honestly spoiled me. I don’t think I’ve ever had such amazing service and nothing will ever stand up to my experience at NSH. They went above and beyond on a few occasions for myself and for guests also that night. As the night dwindled down, the guests who were staying on site at NSH were invited to stay for an after party. For a small additional cost, they provided a bucket full of the most popular drinks from the night. And the owner was super flexible with letting us stay until almost 12:30am when she (understandably) had to go to bed and lock up the bar. Honestly, the fact that she stayed up that late for us to continue to party was incredibly selfless and very much appreciated. If you’re at all hesitant to book your wedding/event at NSH, don’t be!! I loved every single detail of my experience with NSH and I can’t wait to spend every anniversary there and every other special occasion.

It is a top notch dining experience at the North Shore House (Blue Heron Tavern). The outside and inside dining area’s both offer a beautiful atmosphere. The food is excellent and the service impeccable. Everything is good here. Our favorite is the Chilean sea bass, not to be missed if offered. If you are looking for fine dining, this is the place!
