Great local Italian place. Had 3 pasta entrees the calamari and the cheese pizza. Calamari was fresh and fried well with an excellent marinara sauce. Pizza was piping hot and got two thumbs up from the younger crowd. Pasta dishes were fresh and cooked very well. Pasta dishes came with soup or salad. We got the Italian wedding, zupa tuscana (sp?), and the caesar salad. Both soups were excellent. I will say the caesar would've been better without the additional mozzarella on it. Not saying it was bad but did throw me off when I was eating it. Finally you are probably thinking if everything was excellent why the 4 star food? I took 1 star off cuz the salt in the pasta dishes. It wasn't too salty at first but after a couple bites it was noticeable. Everyone in my party noted the same thing. Esp later after we got home. We'll definitely be back to o sole and I'm glad we've finally found an italian place we can add to the rotation!

UPDATE: I was visiting Gainesville today and decided to have dinner at O Sole Mío, as expected I loved it. My wife and daughter were very pleased with their Gnocchi Rose and the Chicken Piccata (which I also ordered). We shared a Cannoli, it was delicious. This Gem never disappoints, I am planning to come back! Very authentic food, excellent service and great atmosphere… ORIGINAL: Great authentic Italian food. Pleasantly surprised that we found this place. We will come again. BTW they make their own olive oil with olives that they plant in the largest Olives Plantation in Alachua Country.

Lettuce was brown in my salad. I has the seafood special which the sauce was very watery and didn't stick to the noodles.

Amazing service- free garlic knots are just the bonus. Top notch pizza and restaurant around !

Im totally in love with this place. Everything on the menu is delicious. I just dont have enough space to eat it all. Lol. The murals are also on point and the cherry wood bar has that special touch of elegance.

O Sole Mio has great Italian food and staff. I personally love the Spaghetti Carbonara, Ceasar Salad, and their yummy rolls. I guarantee you will find something you like off their expansive meeting.

Delightful Restaurant with delightful people and delicious food

My go to is the Penne alla Burina! I am never disappointed!!! Hot garlic rolls and a salad are always a nice touch to the meal. The online ordering is simple inconvenience.

I'm giving it 5 stars even though the sauce was bland and I detected no gorgonzola in the Pollo alla gorgonzola. due to the lack of sophistication of the local audience, they probably don't feel like they can serve a highly flavored sauce, but everything was cooked perfectly and there was a nice ratio of chicken, spinach and mushrooms. I thoroughly enjoyed it but would have called the dish by a different name. Next time I'll ask for extra gorgonzola!

What a nice restaurant! Service from Elsa was just great! She was friendly and provided some wonderful recommendations. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the eggplant with gluten free noodles. I had the spaghetti carbonara which wasn't on the menu but was on the specials menu. It does come with a lot of sauce but the portion size is excellent! Very tasty. There is a good selection of cheesecake as well. Worth a try!

This place is so good, we went for a birthday celebration, we ordered the bruchette to start, was ok but was missing flavor, needed more garlic. That’s the only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars. The rest of the food was amazing. For dinner we had the mahi mahi special with a Gorgonzola sauce, absolutely amazing!! The penne alla vodka was the best penne alla vodka I have ever had, great flavor and creamy!! The calzone is staple of must haves!!! And finally we also had the sicilian pizza deep dish, the flavor was great just needed some more sauce. If you never tried this place it’s a most try!!

I love this place they said I looked like Bradly cooper and I loved it. The people are so friendly I definitely recommend going here for lunch or dinner.

Yucky yuck yuck. I’ve eaten here three times - # superb and very busy, # 2 average and busy. Then there’s my #3…not busy, 4 diners, greasy but yummy garlic knots, 3 mediocre dishes and one Cheese Ravioli so bad that after one bite, I honestly could not eat it. The Ravioli itself was mostly pasta, the marinara type sauce , which should , in my experience, have been light tomato (for example 3/4 tomato, 1/4 cream sauce), was waaay too creamy. I’m not even sure about the cheese as it was so overwhelmed. Pro: lovely server who was really on the ball and engaging. In fact, all 3 visits we had good service and food arrived quickly.

Best Italian Food In Gainesville Period.

One of the best Italian restaurants I have been too! The garlic knots and lasagna were outstanding! The service was top notch and the place was lovely! I can’t wait to come back! Yummmm!

This place is really good! I usually get the Blackened Chicken Caesar salad. I was told last night they will have imported pasta from Italy available soon! Don't miss out on this little gem of a restaurant!

Best service !!! But.. not all Italian restaurants are good Unfortunately 3 out of 4 dishes were not tasty.... I don't know if it was die to our late arrival for dinner 850pm or it was just not as fresh as a lunch meal. Lasagna was good Chicken marsala - poor taste Chiken alfreso (kids) - watery sauce /pasta oily Ravioli- not tasty

I understand food prices are up but adding 3% credit card fee on top of that is too much. We love the food but we are not going back.

I had a pizza with shrooms, peppers and sausage. It was tasty but not as good as I had hoped. The crust was very soft and I thought it needed a little more spice. I actually prefer the pizza at Piesanos. That said the pasta dishes looked good so I will be back to try the pasta. Service was a bit slow.

This place is a staple in our weekly/monthly outings! The food is delicious, best Italian food in the area. We love everything we have gotten here. The calamari is something we always get when we go! The service is always great, even when it is busy. They do have the 3% service charge for credit cards here so be sure to bring cash. We think the prices are fair, especially for the quality. We will definitely keep coming back here!

A really enjoyable casual dinner!

We had a wonderful experience. Our waitress was a super nice girl and she also spoke spanish so that made it easier for some of our family members to order. The food was delicious definetly recomend the Garlic rolls, fried ravioly and lasagna. We will definitely be back.

Being Italian I can appreciate real home style, quality, flavor and zing for the real thing….Here you get it all!!! Take your time pick one or two items and enjoy, next time you come back pick some more, take it in and enjoy, you’ll appreciate what they do here and love it… Che buono!

We did take out. We shared a Grandma's meat sauce spaghetti, with a side of Italian sausage. It came with two yummy rolls, and a side of soup. Delicious!

Hubby loves the stromboli from here. I usually pick out a slice of pizza from a variety of pizzas that are already made so they're not exactly fresh and those are just ok. Nothing more. Don't like the fact they add a"convenience" fee for credit card use. Seems all the mom and pop places are doing that which is why I try to stick with the chain restaurants. Reply to owner ref credit card fees: You got FREE PPE money $124,469, your prices have increased, AND you charge a fee to use a credit card. The average Joe gets hit once again...

Easily some of the best Penne Alla Vodka Pasta ever! I miss this place so much. I had to search it to remember all the good food I've tasted here.

We are a regular for their Grandma (Square pizza) which comes with a free medium cheese pizza. Then all you do is add toppings. It’s a fantastic deal that feeds our family of five for less than $30! And that is saying something 🤪

Pizza was soggy and cold . I ordered fried Calamari unfortunately not what I received. I have never gotten a bad meal from O Sole Mio until last night. Or all nights New Years Eve. Everything went into the dumpster. I will not stop eating here I just hope it was a bad night.

Really great server and host, but the food is mediocre. Exactly what you’d expect from a strip mall Italian restaurant…The true reason for my one star review is that my girlfriend and I both got sick from food poisoning about two hours after having dinner there. It was horrible, the most sick I’ve been in years. I called the restaurant the next day to let them know what I ate and that I was sick shortly after getting home. The manager (maybe owner) called me back and said that they weren’t able to confirm if their food made me sick or not, but offered a small discount upon my next visit…they didn’t seem to take me seriously or appreciate the fact that I didn’t want anyone else to get sick like I did. The poor response and a lack of care for their customers is worth 1 star.

A great choice although a bit noisy

Food and service is usually excellent and is one of my favorite Italian places in this part of town. The usual family go-to is pizza (up there in quality next to Villagio's in Newberry), but their pasta dishes are also very good. I'm a huge fan of the Veal Parm, but I certainly recommend their "Pasta Meat Sauce" where you can select your own pasta. The meat sauce is very well made and delicious. I recommend it with Tortellini!

We love their food, their pizza is the best in at least a 70 mile radius. The desserts superb. The service is always great. So when ordering today I shared news w the man who answered the phone. My hubby's cancer test says non metastatic, still cancer ,but in 5 years of his treatments pills ,side effects this was great news. You would think he knew my husband or was family. He was so happy for us ,and made our order really special. What a beautiful experience on this monumental day for us. TY TY TY For your awesome kindness, and sincerity ❤

Always a great meal. Portions are huge. Staff is wonderful and attentive. Plenty of parking, lot of dessert. Best Italian in Gainesville/Jonesville/Newberry area. Most visits I have the same thing, spaghetti or ravioli. Too much to finish every time. The place could use decor updating, but it’s also typical “Italian restaurant” to look a bit dated, if you ask me… Old World Style, if you will. I look forward to dining in again.

Very friendly and courteous staff. Food was good, we had fried ravioli, minestrone, chicken with pasta and a shrimp and pasta dish. Pasta and shrimp were overcooked. Ravioli was a little overcooked. Everything was a bit bland. Waier (Zayne) was super friendly and the staff all worked well together.

Wow. What a surprise this place was. We ordered a California salad and ask for it split onto two and as you can see it's huge and filled with great fresh ingredients. The family size Calzone was amazing too! Sorry ..it was so big I forgot to take a picture before it was cut up! Returned for more a couple later.. We had Jimmy as our server on the second trip and he is spot on! Just great food!!

Good local spot for solid Italian flavours. The garlic rolls were tasty. Pasta portions oversized - lots of leftovers. Tiramisu was excellent - strong espresso flavour. Try the homegrown olive oil made from trees farmed in the area. Very tasty, we took home a bottle. Would definitely return.

Outstanding Italian food. We ordered four dishes and none disappointed. My favorite was the lobster ravioli in a pink sauce full of sea flavor. The spinaci romana pizza and pasta alfredo with blackened shrimp were also top notch. I don’t often order blackened shrimp because I’ve been disappointed by various restaurants, but this rendition was special and tasty. O Sole Mio honors the frutti di mare.
