My husband and I have been going to Perry Street for over 15 years. Steve, the chef, is one of the most creative and best chefs we have been exposed to in our dining experiences. The food is of the highest quality with creative menus and consistent quality. We can't say enough about our dining at Perry Street!

Everyone in my family of 6 commented on how good the food was and I was surprised they were serving on Christmas Eve. Excellent meal and service. Was able to go to church service at 7, and walk to the restaurant in time for our 8pm reservation. Doesn't get better than that.

The food was oustanding. This is one of a kind restaurant and the prices are aligned with the quality of the food and service. If you want a $25 entree, go to a name brand restaurant. If you want a dining experience, this is a place to go.

Both my husband & I agree Perry Street Brasserie is our favorite spot to eat in of any place we've had the pleasure of dining. I have had the opportunity to dine coast to coast in the US and also in Europe & Morroco....My husband travels extensively in our country & enjoys finding new places to satisfy his palette...Both of us, still, vote our favorite for countless reasons: Perry Street Brasserie....

A must go! One of the best meals we've ever had! Superb! I don't particularly like crab cakes but these were amazing. Wonderful use of spice and seasonings in all of the foods. The portion size of halibut was very large. We had a group of 6 and sampled each dessert...all fabulous!

It's sad that Chef Dowe is hanging up his apron at the end of 2016. We've enjoyed his excellent cuisine each time we've visited this intimate establishment. The cocktails are creative and tasty. The smoked trout and salmon appetizer is excellent and complimented nicely by a lime vinaigrette. This time we enjoyed the veal chop and the pork special. Don't miss the ratatouille as a side dish - its excellent. If you're in Galena, do visit before the end of December.

Best meal we have had in years. But hurry up because owner/chef Steve Dowe and wife Renee is retiring at year end and moving to England to look after his Mum who is in her 80's. A great loss for Galena. It's clearly the best restaurant West of Chicago.

Maitre-chef Steve imbues his medieval-flavored refectory with cosmopolitan refinement and patois authenticity, straddling the culinary Atlantic Ocean with one foot on the Dorset coast and the other on the beaches of St Lucia. In daring conception and precise execution, every dish is informed by a dual sensibility of English shadow and Caribbean sun. The background music subliminally complements the food with Cornish sea shanties shuffling to a reggae lilt. Steve is the soul of tableside affability and well-seasoned wit. Manager Matthew is a persuasive evangelist of the pleasures of the menu and wine list and a skilled practitioner of hand-crafted cocktails.

Once again an outstanding meal, had the mixed grill and each item was done to perfection. Our servers knew the offering and were able to make great suggestions. This trip to Galena was based on getting to eat here one last time before this wonderful find closes, or is sold. The consistency and high quality make the trip from Chicago well worth it.

I chose this restaurant for my birthday getaway weekend. We did make a reservation a few weeks in advance, which I recommend because the space is very small. A large group would be difficult to accommodate. The food is very interesting, and both of our meals (we each had a different special for the night) were outstanding...the best we had since our trip to Sweden in May. The staff was very personable and spent time talking to us. It's pricey for every day but it was what we expected for this restaurant and our special occasion. We would go back in a heartbeat.

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. They have a nice selection of menu options and most of the food is very good. This time I dined with a large group and most of the meals were good, but not great. The escargot appetizer was tough and tasted like dirt. The Prime Veal Cutlets looked different from the last time. The cut was one piece and served like a thin pork chop. It had sausage on the side (the same one as the special came with), which was strange, because the menu states that it comes with cured ham and English cheddar (of which there wasn't any). It was a bad cut of meat and I had to spit some of each bite into the napkin. The waitress was a bit late returning to the table and by the time she had a new entree brought out for me, the rest of my party was done eating. I was warned beforehand that the drinks were very expensive, but my brother-in-law didn't expect to pay $18.00 for the same drink that he purchased for $3.00 down the block the day before. The hostess was a wonderful woman who made the dessert selections sound exciting. Our desserts were outstanding, especially the chocolate ball with the ganache inside at the bottom, light chocolate moose in the middle and heavy whipped cream at the top. I was very excited to bring a large group here, but left disappointed. THIS RESTAURANT IS PRESENTLY CLOSED (2-27-17). The owner has retired and is looking for a new chef/owner to purchase the business.

We specifically come from a Chicago suburb to eat at this restaurant. Their house specialty curry sea dish consisting of shrimp, lobster and calamari is absolutely outstanding. The aroma is intoxicating. Their deserts are all home made and the chocolate shell filled with both white and dark mouse is unbelievably good. Also love their potato brochettes' which are slightly larger than golf balls are rolled in crushed pecans and deep fried. Not good for the waist line, but of so worth it!!! When we visit Galena, we go to Perry Street Brassiere both nights we are in town. The first night is always the curry special and the second night is just so hard to choose from their wonderful menu. Chef Steven is wonderfully talented.

Whenever we visit Galena, we make Perry Street Brasserie a must visit. The chef does an amazing job putting foods together that you just don't think would work. We are never disappointed in a meal. This visit was no exception. The downfall was service. It started out to be spectacular, from the woman who brought water and would later bring dessert, to the waitress, to the restaurant manager. Sadly, once we finished our main meal, we waited about 15 minutes to order dessert. The water/dessert woman came to pour more water and told us she had to finish pouring waters before she could take our dessert order. My husband asked for another drink, and she said that wasn't her job. No waitress arrived, but he finally did get his drink, after about 10 minutes. Desserts arrived and were delicious, but service never got back to what is deserved from such an establishment. As the chef is rumored to be retiring later this year, we found it to be a fitting ending to a visit to one of our favorite restaurants in the US.

Perry Street Brasserie has a story to tell, through it's collection of antique brasses and through its menu. The personal touches make this place a gem. I was pleased by the quality of the food, and I like that the chef sticks to the signature dishes he's known for. The history of the brasses is really fascinating and I appreciate the collection that is on display in this tiny, one-room eatery. Some of the pieces were askew on the wall and I must admit this grated on my OCD tendencies, but that's something someone on the staff could quickly fix. Our service was friendly. I asked about the Fume Blanc because I've never tasted that varietal before, but our server wasn't able to describe the flavor profile of the wine very well. A sommelier (or better training for the staff in regards to the wine offerings) would be really helpful to guests. As a consolation, I was offered a taste of the wine before committing to a glass.

My boyfriend and I made reservations at Perry St for Valentines Day. IT WAS AMAZING! Pros: -Great staff! Our server (I wish I had taken down her name...she was so much fun) was so welcoming, and steered us in the right direction when making selections. The attentiveness of the rest of the crew was noticeable...from consistently full water glasses to the personal dessert menu recital. -Great food! When we were waivering between soup or salad, we were told that the soup of the day was the first soup that the chef had offered in 18 years. Naturally we ordered the soup. A brothy mushroom concoction from heaven. And if you want the recipes, they give every diner a card with the chefs contact info - just email him, and voila! -Great atmosphere! We didn't know what to expect when we walked through that first kitchen screen door looking entrance. But once inside we were hooked. The exposed brick walls, semi open kitchen and wall hangings (along with that perfect streetside window seat) made for the perfect romantic dinner. The groups and couples seated around us looked like they were just as comfortable. Cons: -Entrance...the address told us commerce street, the entrance was on a side street. Walking from our hotel (in heels, in the snow) it was sort of a scavenger hunt. Only applies to first timers I suppose. Price: We were prepared for the bill (thought it would be more, actually) but it is definitely a special occasion sort of meal if you plan to do a featured entree and drinks. Pretty in line with most upscale eateries. Final thoughts? If you're going to go here, take the staffs advice and order their recommendations. Don't go there and order a bunch of salads when the chef has decided to finally offer a soup (like the boring table next to us). They taste the menu items and are the experts. Enjoy!

Lovely quaint eatery. If you are looking to treat yourself stop on in. Each dish is bursting with flavors. Don't forget to try the either of the chocolate desserts.

This was our second trip to this restaurant, I thought it would be difficult to match our first experience, much less exceed it, but that's exactly what they did. Starting with our server, Heather, who is extremely personable and knowledgeable, down to the perfectly prepared cocktails, everything was very well done. However the highlight of our evening was my entree, the "St Lucia", an absolutely deliciously seasoned and perfectly prepared combination of lobster, shrimp and scallops in a fantastic subtle curry sauce.....DON'T miss this one!

My husband & I recently visited Galena and had the pleasure of dining at Perry Street. Perry Street is an intimate setting with great ambiance. We had a great experience with very accommodating wait-staff and a friendly bar-tender who even visited our table to see how we were enjoying the signature cocktails we ordered. The food was, by far, the best meal we had while in Galena. We both ordered the seafood specials of the day and we could tell the ingredients were extremely fresh. The salad and soup prior to the meal was every bit as excellent and tasty as our entrees. The chef knows what he is doing and this restaurant is certainly a gem, if you want a special night out with your loved one or a great group of friends.

Tonight my husband and I had the most amazing dinner. We came here to celebrate both of our bithdays, so we wanted a special dinner. We had the oysters for an appetizer, which were as good or better than anything we have had at 5 star restaurants in Florida. Followed by Chef Steve's special of shrimp, scallops, and lobster in a wonderful curry sauce. We will be back and I would suggest anyone make sure they get here before Chef Steve retires the end of this year.
