This is my first google review but I literally do not know what else to do after our dinner here this evening... the staff at this restaurant make you feel like you're in trouble for trying to spend money at their establishment. Heidi IS lovely, which is why we are left so perplexed by the quality of our meal. To start, after we ordered, she asked us if we wanted some dinner to rolls, to which we replied "sure!" only to find a $4 dollar charge for rolls on our bill. Blatant trickery. They do this knowing most people won't complain about $4, but all that means is that my boyfriend complains to ME about it in the car ride home. We ordered a salad and the special lobster pasta to share. We were not starving, but certainly expected more than a few bites each per dish. Wrong! the salad was wet, floppy and tasteless. The pasta tasted slightly less offensive but was.... I wish I was exaggerating.... 6 forkfulls in its entirety. My boyfriend and I ate our meager servings in silence, fearfully glancing over our shoulders to see if we were being watched and/or pranked. The entire experience was so strange that we compulsively replied "yes!" when Heidi collected our empty plates and asked if we enjoyed "every" bite. I wish I said "all six of 'em!" I should also mention we tried to come here two nights prior. Google says the restaurant stays open until 8:30pm, we arrived at 7:45 and were immediately told to leave because the chef was "done." I saw another potential customer mention she was given the same treatment and wondered if it was due to her being black. Without arguing that possibility, we can vouch that they do just turn you away well before their posted closing time. We're not even mad... just confused and all the more baffled after reading so many positive reviews. If you and your partner have nothing to talk about and $200 to blow on tiny morsels, give this place a shot.

Had a lovely evening to eat on the patio! Food was, as always, excellent. I only gave it 4 stars because my lobster scampi didn't have much lobster in it, but otherwise it was delicious. Service was perfect: enough attention, but not intrusive. Courses were perfectly spaced.

Chef is reaching to serve food worthy of Michelin Stars, with high-end ingredients. However, food is only a bit above average and the cost is quite ridiculous given the small portions. I ordered a filet steak and received tip steak instead-$40.00. Service by wait staff is exceptional. Rather loud space when filled with diners; our party of 3 struggled to have a conversation. $200.00 for an appetizer containing 5 bites of food, 3 average glasses of wine, 3 entrees and 2 cups of "Creme Brulee" custard for dessert.

We had reservations for 6:30, us, our son and daughter-in-law and their 12 year old son. As soon as we were seated and the waitress came around , he asked for the dinner rolls as he was hungry. She took our drink order and an appetizer order for our son. An hour later the crab cakes (which were the size of melon balls) and a single dinner roll for him and my husband arrived. Our dinners arrived sometime later; three of us had the halibut, two were uncooked and gelatinous. When returned, they were not warm but we ate them anyway as we were famished. My husband’s was cooked but not warm. By 8:30, we decided not to endure this any longer and skipped dessert or coffee. I don’t mind spending a goodly amount for fine dining with conscientious service but this was neither. We will never return.

We wanted to try this place out while camping in the area. It looked fancy and had a nice old rustic feel. The place had nice charm to it inside and the putside was pretty. Our waitress was very friendly and spoke highly of the food and how they pride themselves of freshness of the sea food. I ordered the asparagus soup to start. For $9 it did not come with alot of soup in the bowl and bowl just looked empty. We got Halibut plate ($32) and the filet mignon plate ($38). The filet mignon was a thin 1 inch cut, and smothered with sauce so you couldnt even taste the steak. It came with a side of 1 piece of each ; asparagus, carrot, broccoli, and 4 pieces of cut summer squash. The mashed potatoes were good but disappointed with the portion size for what you pay. The halibut plate was mediocre with pesto risotto that was over cooked and again with just a couple vegetables that were undercooked on the plate. For the price we paid for each plate, it left much to be desired.

What a way to brighten my week!!! Had a fabulous dinner at Peyton Place! The tuna special with the mango sauce was divine! Lovely assorted veggies, perfectly cooked where they still had some crunch plus some lovely mashed potatoes rounded out the entree. Also had the homemade chorizo dumplings. They make their own chorizo and their own pasta. Those are always a favorite! The chocolate walnut torte was outstanding! I love that they have a dairy free cream to go with the dessert. Many options are vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free. They have options. Just ask!

We dined at Peyton Place recently & definitely did not have the best experience for a variety of reasons. One positive is that the restaurant is adorable & the views are beautiful, but everything else was pretty bad. The service was extremely slow. We waited for water. We waited for wine. We waited for appetizers for over an hour. And waited close to 2 hours for our main entrees. Out of 5 people at our table, 2 entrees came out correctly. I got the Bison burger on a gluten free bun, since I'm Celiac, as well as a few other item add ons. Someone else at the table also got a burger. Right away we noticed our burger orders had been flopped & combined. For example, she had my side dish & I had her burger toppings etc. Again, I'm Celiac, so I requested a gluten free bun. After inspecting the burger bun, I decided to ask if it was indeed gluten free. It wasn't & the server didn't seem the least bit remorseful even though the kitchen/he could have made me very sick if I would have eaten the bun. So that alone was extremely concerning that they didn't take a gluten allergy seriously. He took my burger back to the kitchen & came back 10 minutes later to tell me that they were OUT of gluten free buns & they had placed a side salad on my plate with a bun-less dry burger patty. This was frustrating because were they just hoping I would just eat the bun they gave me? Completely unacceptable. The server also did not check in to see if we needed anything during our meal & the portion sizes were extremely small for every dish our table ordered. Overall, an extremely disappointing dining experience. Do not recommend.

We've been eating here for years. It used to be for romantic evenings, birthdays, and special events. But now they offer a nice, if limited, menu of small and large plates and we can go more often. The owner/chef is devoted to great cooking and his hostess/wife makes the dining room experience friendly, sophisticated and generally unique. Even a burger is a special meal. Set in an old tavern in the midst of beautiful fields, Peyton Place is the essence of artful eating.

Amazing food, ambience, drinks - everything! I love tapas-style meals anyways, but it's unusual to find a place that does such a variety of cuisine styles, and so well. Add to that the fact that half the menu is naturally vegetarian/vegan and/or gluten-free (no faux-meat or sad GF bread subs needed here!), and lots of the ingredients are locally-sourced? Just perfect. Everything on the GF-vegan menu is delicious, but the mushroom tempura were particularly out of this world, as were the ginger shrub margaritas and plum sorbet.

This is an eclectic restaurant that specializes in small plates. It's a blend of tapas and Asian dishes whose flavors are out of this world. It's in the middle of the Connecticut River valley with almost nothing around it except for farmland and beautiful mountains, about 15 minutes north of Hanover, NH. Great atmosphere, staff and music! Would definitely go back for music and maybe an appetizer. Would not go back for dinner. Crab cakes and spring rolls were one bite each. We were told "food comes out as it's ready". We ordered several plates at the same time. All came out at different times. 3 bowls of soup came out at 3 different times and we eventually cancelled a plate of lasagna after everyone else had eaten and we still waited another 20 mins. for it to come out. We were looking for a nice dinner place in New Hampshire before going on the 2.5hrs ride back to Boston and found Peyton Place here on TripAdvisor. First of all, I have to say that I was reading all the terrible reviews AFTER we got there last Sunday. Many of them are very old and I can tell that Heidi has undoubtedly been working on fixing the things mentioned in there. Things to know for a great experience there are: - Don't go there if you're in a rush. The place is to savor and not for fast food - You should at least be a little gourmet to be able to enjoy the very good food but possibly smaller sizes - If you go for a starter, an entree, wine and dessert, it'll cost you. Prices are downtown Boston range but absolutely worth it - If that scares you, you can still just take one of their outstanding flat breads and a beer and you'll be under $25 - If it's summer, sit outside and take in the peace and quiet of the rural region It took us 5min to just love Heidi (the owner)! She is great and explained the whole menu in every detail to us, which really helped us to make our decisions. We started with 4 spring rolls (pork & shrimp), which were served with chop sticks and soy sauce. They were excellent and yes, it was a small size portion, but see my points above. For entrees, we decided to go with the Sirloin burger and a chorizo / spinach flat bread. Now you WANT to try that flat bread! They make that in their outside stove and serve it from there right to your table. Imagine, their chorizo is made from duck! Boy it was SO good we would go back there only for that. From my other reviews you may be able to tell that I'm a burger guy. I usually try a burger first at every new place and that's what I did. I ordered it rare and boy I got it rare! Red as red can be and I'm not exaggerating when saying that this burger is amongst the top three best burgers I ever had! And they serve home made baked chips with it if you want. We also had two Martini cocktails. They have a full bar and would mix you the drink you like in case it's not on the cocktail menu. We ordered from the menu though and LOVED our Martinis. Perfect mix, good amount of alcohol, lovely taste. We finished our meal with a french press coffee and a wonderful 5 chocolate brownie topped with ice cream. Yummy! Our whole experience was completed by the fact that on this evening Heidi had Jenn & Don, a lovely two person band, out on the patio to play and sing for the guests. I think they are there every now and then, so you may want to ask when in the summertime they're there. It was such a great and intimate experience having them playing and singing their light songs, that we called this whole evening the best one in a while. Thank you Heidi and crew, we will be back and the food was outstanding! Five stars well deserved.

We had dinner at the Peyton Place Restaurant in Orford, NH on September 15th at around 5 pm. We chose to sit on the patio. We had a great experience. I had the Corn Soup which was flavorful and naturally salty from celery. My friend had a the House Salad that I included field greens with fresh, crunchy pears and ripe tomatoes. We shared some small plates: Vegetarian Fried Dumpling with a ponzu (I think) sauce, lobster in a puff pastry with a saffron sauce and lobster sliders. Everything was fresh and the presentation was pleasing. We ended with a couple of the house desserts: creme brûlée and an almond torte with white chocolate icing. I also had a GREAT cup of coffee. I would strongly recommend Peyton Place to anyone who loves good food.

The food is still high end and delicious but the owners renovated thier beautiful farmhouse restaurant making it brighter and more airy. The place looks amazing. I loved the antique side dishes on the table too. They now have a tapas menu and brick oven pizza. The pizza was amazing- I grew up eating pizza in the north end Boston and this is the closest I have found to that with even nicer cheese and creative toppings like chorizo. Farm-to-table restaurant. Was looking forward to it. Very disappointed. Service incredibly slow. 3 tables occupied, took 30 minutes to even see a menu after we were seated. Menu was a huge chalkboard precariously perched on a high chair that had to make the rounds one table at a time. Owner/waitress circulating, making awkward conversation, oblivious to the fact that 3 hungry tables would like drinks and to order food. Food took over an hour for our four top. Meanwhile awkward woman circulating. Food ok; not bad, not exceptional. Thin steaks ordered medium rare were medium well, oysters nice, not spectacular. Fantastic squash puree and sweet potato anna. Sauce on scallops so hot as to be almost inedible; overwhelmed the delicate fish. And had to repeatedly ask for water. Awkward woman would go to get it, lose orbit and wander off. Not impressed, won't be back. For fabulous farm to table, go to Ariana's instead.

The food quality was 5 star. The 1700s house provided good atmosphere. It had a welcoming vibe. The thing that ruined it for me was that for dinner, after a bowl of cherry soup, and a chicken entree, I went home and had something to...

Classy upscale restaurant located in an old farm house. Burger and apps were fantastic, onions overused on the rest.

What a gem of a restaurant. We ate in the original tavern room of a late 1700s house. The atmosphere was warm and casual with music that was gentle and conducive to conversation. We were walk-ins and felt very warmly welcomed. The service was excellent...

This restaurant is a hidden gem in the upper valley and one of my very favorite restaurants. The atmosphere is homey, warm and welcoming. The menu changes often and their commitment to farm to table and local source is a bonus. I've tried almost everything...

Enjoyed great service, and tasty food in one of the warm candlelight dining rooms. Menu has a wide variety of choices. We had a veggie quesadilla, potato crusted haddock, and a bison burger. All prepared to our liking. We were served fresh baked warm rolls....

Wonderful atmosphere, excellent food and the best service ever. We were a large group (20+/-) and our two waitresses handled us with ease and our very best compliments to the chef. The pometini was tart and potent and delish! A great place for a great...

We were warmly welcomed and seated. Drinks were offered and received perfectly. We ordered lobster feta salads and vegetable soup. These were made with their own garden produce. Wonderful. Our entrees were scallops, garlic sausage tacos, lamb burger and chorizo dumplings. Everyone enjoyed. Service was...

We have been loyal patrons of this restaurant for nearly 20 years. The food has always been good to excellent. We have appreciated Heidi and Jim's creative approach to fine dining. However, sadly, we will not return because we finally had enough of the interminable...

We are transplants from New York City and have found this to be the only restaurant in the Upper Valley that we consistently love. In fact we eat there every week. The food is delicious, the kitchen goes out of the way to accommodate our eating habits (I'm vegan, my partner is vegetarian), the service is wonderful. Try the bouillabaisse, the quesedilla, the fettuccine with mushrooms, and the house made gelato. I can't recommend it enough!
