This was my first time back since it changed owners and I will say that I thought the food was significantly better. That said…this place is SUCH a ripoff. Yes, the truffle fries were good, but not $17.60 good. The pretzel also cost $17.60!! Yes, the servings are generous, but the pricing is still far too high. Especially when a cider is also $12.42 a pop. Probably won’t be back for this reason. Two stars as I thought the food was decent and the staff were kind.

Nice local beer garden. Great beers, some good food. Careful with sausages, some of them are really dry. Awesome pretzels, good French fries with three sauces.

7/22/2024 - BEWARE AUTOMATIC 20% TIP INCLUDED EVEN ON A PARTY OF TWO. Only AFTER pressing confirm on your point of sale machine, did the waitress say "oh tip is already included." The assistant to the waitress who brought out a bowl of water for our dog was extremely nice. I hope our extra 20% tip on top of the secret "already included" tip went to her. Shady.

Awful experience. Get into the place and it’s full of Yuppy parents and their kids running around. We were excited when we saw their menu online, only to be disappointed when at least half of their cocktail/beer menu was sold out. The waiter started by saying that all menu items have 20% gratuity included, which smacked of greed and the service showed. My wife’s had no choice but to have an aperol spritz, which tasted more like a sour cider than a spritz. The Hoboken ipa was decent to be fair, but the waiter ignored us multiple times. They took the spritz off the bill, but still……..with 20% gratuity the bill came to $14 for one beer……Really disappointed and wish I paid attention to the reviews post Covid. Will never return here and hope these greedy owners change or move on because this place could be so much better than this mediocre excuse for a beer garden

The establishment will add a mandatory 20% tips on your bill. We were 2 and they automatically add it. We complained and ask to speak to the manager as it is illegal in NJ, if not clearly stated upon engaging a patron. Of course the manager did not show up. TOTAL BS !!! I don't mind paying 20% tip if I am satisfied, but it is at MY discretion. Not them.

Been going to HBG for almost 6 years now. As many reviewers before me have already said , talk about a fall from grace. These new owners completely sucked the charm and atmosphere out of this place and completely just turned it over just to make more profit. I recently went there for the champions league final game and the service was outright awful but you can’t even blame the staff. They implemented this new system where you just order on the phone and let me tell you, it backfired on them. It took us almost 20 mins to get a single round of beer. The prices of the food has gone up and the quality has gone down. The beer selections have diminished and they fail to make renovations where they need it. They would rather invest all their money into their new “elite” club space upstairs while the main space needs renovation especially to the projectors and the screens. The match itself was barely visible and had the video quality of that of a 2000s tv. I feel bad for the staff because the only thing they can do is just endure while the owners continue to make horrible choices. Not sure how long they can keep this new format going for until they really start to hurt.

The new owners of this place have no souls and are only there to extract your money. This place has moved to a full mobile app. There is no personality. You are charged $17 for the privileged of a pretzel. Yes... $17 for a pretzel. You can never ask a human for another drink. Phone only. No humans. On top of the insane prices that only a greedy pig owner would want, you are charged a 20% gratuity that can not be changed regardless of the fact that your service sucked. If this place went away, Hoboken would become a better place.

I used to LOVE this place. It was a hang out place for me and a lot of my friends in Hoboken. But recently I feel that the management has changed, the food is not as good as before, portions are smaller, it's more expensive, they are understaffed, and on top of all they are automatically changing you for service they don't provide! We sat there for half an hour and no one came to take our order, we went and got our drinks at the bar and they charged %20 for the "service"!! Same thing with the food, I ordered online, some one just dropped off the food, no utensils no water no napkin, and they felt entitled to a tip, because again we were automatically charged! It's a shame that this place is getting worse by the day, it was a nice place! I suggest instead go to the Biergarten in Jersey city, much better food and atmosphere!

I always love a good beirgarten. I've been coming here for years, but recently I came by myself and ordered one Pretzel and 1 beer and it cost me $40! The waiter was friendly enough and you could tell the staff hustled and made sure everyone was taken care of friendly and promptly. I just couldn't believe that I had to cough up that much money for a Pretzel and beer. Won't be doing that again any time soon.

Talk about a fall from grace. I've been coming here for almost a decade and the experience couldn't be different from back then. Prices are insanely high and the quality has gone down. No more real service or menus, must order from a stupid 3rd party app. Even then, they automatically add a 20% gratuity regardless of party size, which I'm not sure is even legal since it's not specified anywhere. THEN when you close out your tab on your phone, they try to automatically get you to add even more tip. This is predator practices and they should be ashamed. I unfortunately won't be returning.

They just implemented a new payment system where all ordering is placed through your phone. I got 4 beers with my group and went to close out, only to find that a 20% tip is added without any warning or ability to remove it, and then the system automatically prompts to tip an ADDITIONAL 25%. This is criminal. Would have been 75 dollars for 4 pints of beer if I wasn't paying close attention. I complained and they said "it's a known issue". Yeah, they know what they're doing. Long time customer will never be coming back.

Good place to go with a crowd, with plenty of seating both indoor and out, and a pretty solid beer selection. They used to have a much more authentic Eastern European food menu, though, and I really miss several of the dishes on the old menu - no more beef goulash or chicken paprikash or wienerschnitzel 😢

An old standby of Hoboken. Great space, and the music on a recent Friday night hit the spot with r&b classics. So why's it half empty on a busy night? Beer prices don't include tax and a 20% tip is automatic, so a pint of Pilsner Urquell is $14. And you could tell the lines on their taps weren't cleaned as often as they should be. I'd rather have canned, in that case.

I mean, everything was good/fine, but they auto-gratted us? Husband/wife and 2 small kids. Weird move. Also couldn’t open their menu it tries to make you download an app.

Always a great time. Great selection of beers. Huge mugs. Open cooking area adds so much to the space. And always a soccer game on!

What a shame. Used to be my favorite spot for beer and food. I don’t know what the heck happened.. new ownership? Whatever it is, it was an awful experience. Food tastes like crap. Their bavarian pretzel and bier mussels used to be so good but now the pretzel taste like a cardboard and mussels taste like it has been frozen for years. Prices have increased through the roof while food quality decreased to the bottom. You also order and pay for everything through your phone, and they bring it out to your table. The amount of times someone came to our table and asked if we are going to order more was ridiculous. I swear EVERY 5-10 MINUTES! I was just trying to enjoy my beer with friends and watch the NBA finals. They kept on coming and asking if we are going to order more while we are still clearly working on our beer. They also time after time tried to take away dishes that still had half of the food left. To make everything worse, they automatically charge you 20% for gratuity! What a tragic decline of what once used to be local’s favorite restaurant/bar. Never going back to this place again.

Used to be our neighborhood favorite - large beer selections and good food. With the price hike going though the roof, it is not what it used to be. Beers now cost 30% more and there is a hidden gratuity added to every check, tricking you another 20% when you are not entirely sober. I understand it is a really competitive industry, and restaurants are reluctant to pay employees a fair wage. Well, customers can only bear the cost for so long. We won't return.

They recently changes systems.. you have to order everything on your phone, it didn’t work on half the phones, and you are unable to change the tip amount. We were very unhappy with the new system. Half of the beers were listed as sold out, so you couldn’t order them. Food is still decent, but everything else is a turn off. Used to be easy, now not so much.

Items are priced high. Food portions were smaller and taste was subpar. No waiters or waitresses to serve you. So You take your own table, your own order, you have to ask for your own plates, water, and napkins and yet they automatically take a 20% tip?? When you close out your bill on the phone it asks you if you’d like to leave a tip, so if you do not read your bill carefully you will not know they already added a mandatory 20% gratuity. Very disappointing all around. Will not return.

You must try their Bloody Mary Shots! They are incredible, especially if you like pickles. My fiance and I came here on a somewhat chilly spring day and it was everything we needed. The food was good. The atmosphere was awesome. Highly recommend.

Good ambiance and food. Just be careful with the menu and payment app as by default it charges 20% for "gratuity", and then when you proceed to payment it adds additional "tip" so by default you would pay 44% in tips if you are not careful... We all agreed it was quite misleading!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I was finally able to try it and I gotta say, it was out of this world. The pierogi were perfectly cooked and amazing, the kielbasa was extremely delicious with a nice crisp in each bite, and bratwurst handheld was a simple yet tasty joy on ciabatta bread. I loved the atmosphere and the older vibe/style to it. Everyone was extremely pleasant, welcoming and helpful. Though on the pricy end, this was well worth the experience. Highly recommend this place!

Used to be our favorite spot in Hoboken where we would go every month, but unfortunately it went south recently. Last time we went there it took forever to get our order and in the end they made mistake in our receipt. But overall atmosphere is lovely. I would recommend this spot for dinner/drinks with friends. Beer selection is huge if you like beer. Our favorite is buffalo wings!! It’s delicious and we order it every time we go there!

I arrived from out of town to see my family and arrived to pilsner with my family. The server David A was unresponsive and made us wait a long time. I asked him to split the check up from the start and he took my son in laws credit card. I was waiting over 30 minutes asking other servers to find David A and I needed to than wait another 20 minutes. David A finally comes to the table and I told him I needed the check split. He threw the check at me and said No on Saturday 5/11 at 7:30 pm. I said I wanted to speak to a manager and he said that there is NO manager around and I needed to deal with him. On Saturday really??? He didn't even return my son in laws credit card for another 30 minutes. Don't go to this restaurant! You get beat up as a customer by David A the Server.

The shortrib grilled cheese is amazing. Service was having trouble with the ordering system. Not enough front end people. Lots of bus staff, not enough people that can place an order. Way too loud. Oh wait, they serve alcohol and tons of drunks.... still loud compared to other bars.

Food was great by biergarten standards. Fun bustling ambiance.

This is our goto place as its close from work. It has amazing atmosphere. Only giving 4 stars as outdoor seating could be little better, I am all up for rusty and industrial looks but benches need to be little more clean and polished. Some of these had splinters coming out, hope it doesn't hurt anyone. Fries are amazing and onions rings could be made little less oily. They have a good selection of beers and reasonable prices.

my first time and it was a good experience! it was nice and calm so i was able to catch up with my friends. sampled some beer. i didn’t try the food except for fries but the portion was big but it was $$$ for fries

Booked this location to celebrate a birthday with a "open bar" package. When I met with the event coordinator, i was told guests will be given wrist bands and able to order drinks AT THE BAR. Also, i was told i can arrive 30mins prior to the event to decorate. When I arrived, the designated table for my party was occupied by a previous party, delaying out setup to 15 minutes. My guests were NOT ALLOWED TO ORDER DRINKS AT THE BAR and were told to order from the waitress who was busy with multiple tables. When I reached out to the event coordinator she did not take any accountability for giving me false information. Given two stars because the food was descent and the waitress was friendly.

Great day trip to New Jersey. Well worth the trip from the city. Atmosphere good, prices, good, service good. Definitely recommend.

Pils Haus is a great beer hall located in Hoboken, built in the classic German beer garden fashion, offering steins and half steins of a number of beers (not brewed on site) with the quintessential Bavarian fare, (giant soft pretzels, sausages, et al) plenty of long tables for communal drinking and also offering large projector style screens for sports it’s a good place for a group outing, or a festive day drinking, there is additionally an outside patio though it’s pretty small compared to the the indoor space.

Place is great, we just had an idiot server. sneaks a 20% on our bill (which was two people) and then had the audacity to ask us to leave a tip.

Wasn't worth the walk. The only have imported beers and a cider. Bartender Wasn't friendly when he realized we were new customers and didn't know what they had. Small venue and kids shouldn't be allowed there.The only nice thing were their wood tables Almost got knocked over by a kid running around. Steps are painted black and with the lights dark you can easily fall. One and done place for me.

That $18 burger with fries included? Yea, more like $30 because they asked what kind of fries and never told you that it costs you almost double. Extra for bacon too for my friend who also got ripped off with me. No warnings or clues from the menu about any of this as of this writing. Might as well have ordered a real entre and saved money on a better meal (maybe). I politely raised the issue of the surprise charge and the server didnt care and offered no resolution. And the $12 replacement fries (not additional fries, replacement for the plain fries) were simply covered in sticky grated parmesan and you cant eat more than a few and stomach them

I might even revisit this place just for sausages. It loved juicy flavor exploding as soon as I bite into its flesh. I also loved that it said spicy sausage and it certainly did had good amount of kicks there. I just feel like lots of menus in the states don’t really have spicy flavor even though their menu descriptions say so. Larger I had was just a larger, will try other beers and see if I can find my favorite kinds. One minor thing I didn’t like though was that they charge extra 3%ish for credit card payment. I didn’t expect to see such archaic way of doing business in Hoboken. 소세지만으로도 다시 올 것 같습니다. 껍질 깨물고 들어가자마자 뜨거운 육즙이 터져나오는게 아주 맛있었습니다.

I’d like the bratwurst plate please (comes with 2 sausages). Would it be possible to have one regular brat and one spicy brat? No, that’s not possible. Why? Because computer says no. Customer service in America is disappointing at the best of times, this place reinforces that stereotype. Such a shame. Very simple request for a taster of different flavours rejected by a computer, what a silly country 🇺🇸

Every time I have come, food and drink items are no longer available! The food quality has gone downhill as well. They also bring you an electronic pad to pay the bill and the waitress stands over you while you calculate a tip! They also got rid of half off Mondays which is disappointing.

Apparently they don’t pay the performers they seek out to entertain their customers… so that’s something.

If i could leave 0 stars i would I played a gig at the Pilsner haus about 2 and a half weeks ago. Most gigs musicians play agree on a price with the bar - and then you're paid on site. I have never in my life dealt with such shadiness from a business. Constantly giving me the run around saying management is going to call me, write me a check, send me a venmo...yada yada yada. What a joke. They encouraged others to 'e-mail them' - but the email they provide just bounces back. You play a gig for 3 hours...bring a few tables worth of people who spent a few hundred dollars. the LEAST you can do is compensate me for my team. it's fine that you made me pay for beer and food. whatever. But pay me for me g-d time.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit here to see a local band play out. Showing a movie on the wall outside while in the beer garden was nifty, and the house DJ knew his customers because the music was really good. All that is a nice setting for liters of good beer and good food. The curry brat was particularly tasty. A return visit will determine if the place is five stars, but i feel like this is a solid pick.

Used to love it here. Food went downhill a lot. Dry and not fresh. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident. Drinks was the same. I definitely expected better quality food for the bucks we paid.

Been coming here for years and love it but have been turned off by our last two visits. Last time we came excited for all the Octoberfest beers on the menu yet they were out of all of them! Tonight we came in for half off Mondays and were told they no longer do it despite a large sign on the outside of the building. We told the waitress about it and she didn't believe me even though I showed her a picture I had taken to send a friend earlier. interestingly enough the sign was removed when we left. Also the waitresses hover over you when paying on the little screen watching what you leave for a tip. I started asking for a paper printout now when they bring the little screen over.

Called and asked about dog sitting outside and said it was okay. When we arrived we were turned away for having our dog. I saw other tables with their dogs… management clearly doesn’t understand their own policies or can’t be bothered to offer decent customer service.

It was beyond my expectations. The staff was great, professional, entertaining, everything was clean and in order. Lots of people, good music, really good experiance. I can recommand this place to anyone who's looking to have a good time.

They have live bands on weekends. We went on a Friday and had a blast to the likes of Incubus, Green Day (Blvd of Broken Dreams, American Idiot...), and Papa Roach mixtapes after the band was done lol Great for reminiscing millennials and Gen Xs :D

Wish we could have tried the food but the bartender told us the kitchen was closed right after making food for a server who took a large group order. A waiter later on (rudely confirmed the kitchen closed later on after we'd initially asked the bartender if we could order food) I understand that places are closing earlier due to a slow night but was surprised to have them close an hour and a half earlier than listed on a Friday. Music and ambiance are top notch though. A real shame. Can't recommend going here.

One of the best bars in Hoboken. Many types of beers and food matching pretty well. Definitely good if your going out with a lot of people. Very cool German bar in an old warehouse building. I love grilled calamari salad and the pretzel. I would highly recommend this place if you are into beer and want to experience some awesome authentic german style food.

Today try #18 Octoberfest... from their 5 selections and it's the closest to original ... no pics cause all other pics are true ... will return ... They do accomodate to large groups... A++ all is a great experience

Attended a retirement party here for a group of about 25 and we had a great time in the Biergarten in a quaint courtyard area with picnic tables. It was a perfect night in Sept to be outside with a fun Oktoberfest vibe happening. Larger parties like ours are always a challenge for servers but ours did a great job. She took great care of our group and anytime you needed anything she was ready. The bar inside is super cool. I didn't want to leave my friends outside but would have loved to spend some time inside at the bar. Very cool. We ordered a bunch of appetizers so we didn't get to take in the whole menu but what we had including wings was good. I'm not a beer guy but the folks that were having beers in the giant mugs were enjoying. The bartenders poured an honest drink which I always appreciate as a bourbon on the rocks guy. When in Hoboken its a great spot with a lively fun atmosphere. Recommended.

Revised my 5 star review, the food is good, but paying 20 dollars for a can of beer is outrageous. Don’t think we will be back very often unfortunately.

Food was delicious and they have a decent selection of beers, waiter was good and informed us that it was half off Monday. Yet the "bill" (tiny, busy screen the server showed me not a printed or paper bill) didn't seem to reflect that. When I got home I added up everything we got at the regular menu price and it came out to exactly the same price I paid hmmm. So if my appetizers and beers were half off how is my bill the same price without any discounts taken off according to your online menu? Shouldn't it be less? But I wasn't given a printed receipt either so I can't find where the discrepancy is. No paper menus nor an actual bill for you to review/take with you. I prefer how it was before with an actual physical menu you can hold and bill with prices on it to make sure you're not getting miss charged or ripped off. Will definitely reconsider coming here again after this

Loved spending time here. Great atmosphere we spent the husband's bday on a Saturday night. Didn't wait at all to be seated. Spent so much money 💰 🤑 and the downfall was we lost our keyfob somehow dropped it. I went their next day to find it and was not returned or found. We closed the place so how can they not find it? No one sat after us. I'm very upset because that keyfob is costing me 400.00 the bill was 400.00 and now I am in the hole this week.

Perfect place to chill. Visited it this summer. The yard was quite and I was able to enjoy the food and the conversation without raising my voice compare to the other places I have been. Music was not loud which it is an important criteria for me. In the very same day, I skipped another bar before coming here just because the music was so loud. Fortunately, I didn’t regret it at all. Food is decent compare to the bar foods I have had in other places. Only down side was that our waitress was a bit slow and would not check in often with us but this is something that can be improved with a proper training. Regardless, I still recommend it.

Nice set up, it was a perfect day to sit outside. Unfortunately there was 3 or 4 bees that was attracted to my wings and it was difficult to eat it with them flying all over my face. Service was good. The food itself was not bad. Just got some wings mussels, fries and some beers 🍻

Guy and woman behind the grill bar, they have no patience for customer. I was ordering some franks but I didn't know what is what and the music was so loud So my ordered was unclear and delayed..the guy who worked for the grill He started get impatient and frowned his face and he started to explained which one is which so quickly and intentionally that i couldnt even understand. Basically he was annoyed because i was taking my time to order franks.. I became upset for their attitude and just ordered whatever and left my name and came back to my table. I let one of my friends pick up my order because i knew i was upset toward their attitude and I didnt want to handle anymore. bad attitude!!!

A very roomy, beer garden, perfect for watching the game with a group of friends. However… It differs from most beer gardens in a very peculiar way — the place has a kind of 1946 E. Berlin five to it. I really appreciate some committing to the bit, did I mention this place is huge? And the place is very clean, and does not smell like beer at all, despite being a place that serves so much of it. It also has an open kitchen, but that also doesn’t have much of a negative affect, actually, it has more of a positive affect in general. And it’s not only because the service is great, but because they have giant (and I mean giant) exhaust fans running, installed horizontally behind the bar, so not only is it useful, it’s really interesting to look at. Just go check it out, you’ll see. Also, the food is really good. It has Bavarian and Polish cuisine, and not in the game a key quote because I sell beer. I should also sell pretzels“ sort of way that you see at a lot of beer gardens and breweries. Besides that, it’s exactly what you expect… And not much more. You can buy a lot of beer, there are giant projectors everywhere, there are several rooms of indoor and outdoor seating, and, of course — a speakeasy.

Great food and cool place! Careful though, the service was concerning. The waiter came back to our table because he didn't believe we tipped enough and asked us if we wanted to "fix" it. This is not okay. I would suggest the owners of this place consider increasing the wages of the employees before allowing the waitstaff to continue making patrons uncomfortable. Or simplify the process: do away with tipping all together.
