As always a great meal at Portugalia!

Ordered a Grilled Black Sea Bass to share with spouse 20 minute later was told they ran out. Then we ordered the sea food plater in red wine sauce. Another 20 minutes go by (Now it's 40 minutes) and they come out with Grilled Trout and when we say to the server that we didn't ordered that plate he Placed it on our table and walked away. We just paid for the 3 drinks and got the hell out of there. We can't say anything about the food because we never got it.

Mr. Fernando Branco is an excellent host. The mini nails are top!

Not worth it. Food was not it & they took decades to bring out the food. The only thing thst was good was the shrimp rice. Overall service was whatever

Bad experience. I asked to take a salmon, when I got home and opened it, it was a Cação. Cold food, I don't recommend it

Great place for dinner. Sit down side and bar service side. Well staffed and excellent Portugese food. Many seafood options. Prices are reasonable. Eaten there a dozen times will on the way to Newark airport.

Authentic Portuguese foods for real. If you lucky to go there and is not super busy then I would give a 5 star. There's always a reason why a restaurant business is always busy ....

Old style Portuguese BBQ. Food is excellent. Probably one of the best in town.

We ate here once before and it was excellent; however in our last visit both the cod and the rabbit, was smothered with instant mashed potato. A real shame! The service was excellent. Please don’t serve fake potatoes!

I was in the ironbound section of Newark to have my dog groomed when I decided to wander the streets and learn about the neighborhood. I saw that Portugalia Bar & Restaurant was rated well so I thought I'd give it a shot. I sat at the bar and got in a conversation with a local. He recommended I try the chicken and he was spot on! It was spiced just right and tasty, the olives were delicious and the cranberry juice was refreshing. The carbs were too plentiful so I ate them sparingly. The server was friendly and gave great service. Bottom line: This place is a neighborhood gem with fair prices and yummy food. The locals are friendly and down to earth. It's not fancy, but it was what I wanted and a perfect setting to experience the area.

Portugalia in Down Neck (Ironbound) Newark is a great neighborhood restaurant and bar. Fresh portugese food. I love the ribs and chicken. Huge salads, and of course Vinho Verde from Portugal. Hopping place.

Nice place for a drink at the bar accompanied with famous whole BBQ chicken or fried calamari. Pale in color French fries did not impress, dirty half-full ketchup bottles were disappointing. Cod fish Portugalia style and seafood rice were very good. The atmosphere of the place was average overall but food is mostly delicious.

Sunday service was a little slow. The food was over cooked and underwhelming. I liked the authenticity of the atmosphere but this alone will not bring me back.

Was recommended by a friend, bar on one side , dining room on the other. Excellent Portuguese food. Totally enjoyed this mini steak sandwich ! Parking is tough.. take UBER and drink more Sangria !

Really great. Super food. Very nice and competent wait-staff. Paella was great (and very reasonably priced). Low-key place with a dining room hidden behind the bar. We were the only non-portuguese speakers there. The real deal.

Food is consistently fantastic and the service is what you would expect at much more expensive places. If you want to have the best churrasco on this side of the ocean, this is the place.

First restaurant I dined in in the Northeast. Amazing service and excellent food. Love the clam appetizer. Love the sangria, first time to try it, definitely a must have now. George the owner is very welcoming and Diego our bartender is pretty cool.

Had to black scabbord fish and frango. Delicious with a glass of Portuguese wine

OMG the stewed Bacalau was huge and delicious! The grilled grouper was a bit bland so I asked for a garlic sauce; the potatoes and veggies were very good. Tres leches cake was most más not too sweet.

Food here is always great. I've came here twice in the past couple months for lunch but have came many other times in the past. I had the squid lunch special one day and a fish dish another. The squid was great. Came properly seasoned with chunks of garlic and olive oil with potatoes that tasted excellent as well. The fish dish I had another time was good and had great flavor. I sat at the bar and both times it took about 5 minutes before I received service. One worker was talking to other customers about soccer and never came over. I had to flag down the other server that was at the end of the bar. Both times I didn't get bread until my food came out and I never got olives. (They're supposed to give you bread and olives before you get the menu.) Seems like mostly locals at the bar and they get the best service. I had an expresso and it was 👌. The dessert was also excellent, well presented, and tasted as good as it looked. Food is pretty expensive for lunch but you get decent sizes and it's always good. I wish service was better. The older Portuguese gentleman was the best server out of every visit. The younger girl behind bar walks around with an attitude. She walked by me twice without asking if I needed any help when clearly I had just gotten there since I had no drink or anything in front of me. (The mid aged server also had seen me walk in and sit at the bar and was the one having conversations with customers. He continued to converse while I sat over 5 minutes without help. Yes, I'll come back but I hope to receive better service and bread and olives before the meal like it's supposed to be done. O caralho!

I usually eat at a Portuguese restaurant when close to Newark. Had a great mariscada com caldo verde. The caldo verde is olive oil and garlic based. It came with scallops, mussels, clam, shrimp, lobster tail and a lobster claw. It was delicious!! It’s well served for one person. I have high praise for Portuguese restaurants as they will usually have good quality ingredients and REAL olive oil! This one is a good choice, for sure.

If you’re looking for authentic and delicious Portuguese food then this is the place to go ! Everything from the appetizers, to the entrees and dessert was amazing !

The food is good, the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was because I ha ordered the food for 11:30 and I had to wait for 44 mins for the food to be ready.

Very good fresh and well prepared satisfying portions. Roast cabrito is one of my favorites.

I come for the bbq chicken and stay for the espresso to top off a great meal ... They pull one of the Best espresso shots in the Ironbound area.

Went today with friends & had an exquisite meal. These people know their seafood. Highly recommend their codfish fritters & the garlic shrimp. Had grilled Chilean Sea Bass that was on point. Quite a few locals & businessmen there at lunchtime. They do have salad, but it's not listed on menu. Definitely worth a try.

I along with 2 friends had lunch. Appetizers of Shrimp in Garlic sauce along with Codfish fritters was enjoyable. Paella Marinera was delicious. Family atmosphere in dining area and nicely layed out tables with pleasant decor. Due to room size, it gets noisy as it gets crowded. Not pleased with waiter. Prefer to accentuate the positive. Would certainly return and explore the various entrees they offer.

I'm a pollock. The food wasn't for me. So I got a steak. Steak was OK. If you like seafood you probably love this place. The dining room was small and cozy. I wish I liked 🇵🇹 food more as I would enjoy going back. Everyone in my party of 4 loved the food. Appetizers were solid!

Most pleasing lunch on Saturday. The waiter is very professional and courteous. The portions very generous and the food was delicious. My husband had the roasted pork, I had the octopus lunch special. Prices very affordable.

Quaint (A guys hangout) neighborhood spot, featuring excellent sangria, minute steaks, rice and beans and of course paella...and the best salad I have ever had! You must stop here, you will not be disappointed.

I really enjoyed the restaurant area, despite not providing water besides asking for bottled water. The bacahau à brás is to die for (biased about my bacalhau) but the portion was enormous for the price. It was so big the three of us ate 2 plates each and just barely finished. The other food was terrific too, looking forward to coming back soon!

Always good food .. especially the mini cheese steaks .lol. their grilled octopus is one of the best in Ironbound .. I highly recommend

Very crowded place but it is worth it because the food is really tasty especially the octopus dish, my favorite, I would recommend it if you like Portuguese food.
