Worst experience a I have, I asked medium a I received well we’ll done after waiting more 1 hour. I not receive a single sorry by the manager. The waiter was super attentive. This place never more.

New ownership, Terrible food, reheated leftovers, also very dark and loud inside, like a lame hole in the wall pub. This place used to be clean, well lighted, great service, fresh food and packed with lively customers. Now it’s a dump.

Great well done portuguese food.

More people should come and visit.

Estuve en un evento porque tienen un local para los mismos en el segundo piso, la comida estuvo buena, pero en cuanto a licores no fue la mejor combinación. En la parte baja es un bar karaoke y disponen de varios licores y platos a la carta tambien.

It's not Estrela da Ponderosa anymore. Now it's Barretos!!! I was there for a birthday party in the second floor. The only time we came downstairs to the bar to have a drink it took the bartender 5 minutes to understand what we wanted.... mind me we just wanted 3 shots : vodka , Jack Daniel's and sambuca. Nothing fancy.... Not to mention that they had 6 people working behind the bar and we had to call them for attention. They have live music on the weekends though.... mostly Brazilian I believe. Anyway take a look and see for yourselves.

The restaurant is under new management.  I expected a change, yet customer service is great as always. The food tastes awesome. And the portions are big. If there is an ingredient in the menu that is not of your liking they are very accommodating. Eating at the bars is like being with family. Very good food, still Portuguese, but now a new addition is the Brazilian cuisine. They make us feel like home. The price is very accessible. My waiter was Jozimar and he was really very attentive.

I've been going to this restaurant for the past 34 years. The food is just inexplicable good, fresh, delicious and the service is exceptional at all points!!!! if you ever in Newark for any reason, you must go to this place. Owner operated for decades. This is the true Portuguese Rustic/Homemade food for the soul! Just like that!!!

The food here is really good and the price is very good too. However the service was quite slow and the staff messed up my order. I wish the server had been more attentive. Besides that little mishap the service was pretty good.

This place has really good home style Portuguese food. The portions are large. I come here again and again for the sangria and shrimp. The sauce is so good. The goat was a portion that could feed a family. The broccoli rabe is cooked perfectly. Excellent, friendly service.

God bless the good old PONDEROSA STAR!!!! Second oldest son of King Casimir IV, he was tutored by Johannes Longinus, a Polish chronicler and diplomat. After his elder brother Vladislaus was elected as King of Bohemia in 1471, Casimir became the heir apparent. At the age of 13, Casimir participated in the failed military campaign to install him as King of Hungary. He became known for his piety, devotion to God, and generosity towards the sick and poor. He became ill (most likely with tuberculosis) and died at the age of 25. He was buried in Vilnius Cathedral and his cult grew. His canonization was initiated by his brother King Sigismund I the Old in 1514 and the tradition holds that he was canonized in 1521.

The customer service here is above all. I was being served by the owner and didn't even know it. Oh, the food tastes good too. Eat at the bar it's like eating with a big extended family. The price was better than right. The owner asks u if u want an extra helping. I saw some customers say no, but they were given seconds just in case.

The waiters deserve a damn medal for as hard as they work. Waited on people hand and foot at a party I was at. Abundance of food. So much food. Great atmosphere. The owner was in the party kept checking on everything all hands on. If you wanna have a party here I would recommend the place. Just hate that it's in Newark.felt like I was going to get jumped walking to my car.

I had my baby shower here about a week ago. The people are easy to work with and the service was excellent. The space was perfect for an event of about 50 people. Everyone commented on how good the food was-both Portuguese and American.

Great food an very nice atmosphere, it was my first time in and I really liked the it. I recommend the bacalhau à lagareiro along with the aliança vinho verde.

Was here with a couple of friends for lunch. We all had the Picanha, which was so flavorful and tender that I melted on your mouth. The service is friendly and put us at ease , makes us feel welcomed.
