Great family restaurant, awesome traditional Portuguese dishes!

Wonderful staff and the best suckling pig around

It is a place for people over 40 to have dinner. Food is good for those who are not allergic like me. The dishes are already prepared with lots of pepper and pepper. Only cod can be made without seasoning. So I couldn't taste any of the other dishes.

My favorite restaurant. Celebrated my 54th birthday there. The food was amazing 👏 🤩 😋

The best place to enjoy real Portuguese food!!! It was my second time going. I took my friends, and they instantly fell in love. The prices are really good, considering you get big portions. The chouriço was perfect. The service was really friendly and welcoming. They explained all the plates on the menu and gave suggestions. I would completely recommend this place, and for sure, I will be back

We hosted a lunch for 12 people here and they did a great job!

Our first visit here. Truly a gem in the "beautiful" ironbound section of Newark. We had goat and cod dishes. Clams and sausage appetizers were great, in fact it was the best sausage I've ever had. The food was beyond excellent. The bar and restaurant are in the same room so you can eat and watch soccer or Portuguese CNN from anywhere. There also appears to be an event dining room in a separate section.

Took a ride from Boston (Massachusetts) to Newark (New Jersey) to drop off some boxes at a transport company to ship to Portugal and stumbled upon this Coimbra Bar & Restaurant and what a treat it was. Our server Pedro was amazing!!! The piglet was the best I’ve ever had, with its crispy skin, and the service was 5 stars even with the Saturday lunch rush. This is definitely a site we will be visiting again. See you soon!

I've been to this restaurant several times, but only for special occasions, birthdays, christening, and other large affairs. Never just to have a meal. On this day we went has three couples. The atmosphere was much improved with the dinning room totally redone. The food was traditional Portuguese and well done. The service was very friendly and helpful. So if you are planning to eat true Portuguese food this is the place. Parking is not a problem with a huge parking lot across the street. The food and the drinks are fairly priced.

Food was terrible. A surprise for a Portuguese restaurant in Ironbound. They served me days old chicken that was reheated. it smelled like a chicken out of the fridge that was put back in the oven. Fries were cold. Not coming back.

I left this place after the first question I asked the waiter, I asked if there were crabs in the appetizers because I have allergies and his answer was I didn't eat to know, speaking with attitude, this is the way to treat costumers? I wanted to call the manager and complain about it but I didn't want to create a bad situation, families were eating and had nothing to do with it, Learned my lesson, not coming back for sure!

What is there not to love but the closest taste of fine Portuguese dining while not having to catch a flight to Coimbra, Portugal. My favorite was their pork cube clams, well marinated that the pork cubes and clams taste like they were one. The octopus salad was also well seasoned, maybe a little too heavy with the onions but the octopus wasn't chewy or overcooked, it was seasoned and settled well with all the flavors when served. I did not like the soup, I can get fresher soup from Seabra's on 83 Wilson Ave. The not-so-pleasant-going-towards-the-fermented soup I couldn't palate the soup after the second try. Other than that everything else was well made, locally bought and I did love their mixed salads, the salads tasted fresh which is difficult during a time of climate justice. Maybe the waiter should of asked was there something wrong with the soup. I would have shared my opinion. The pastel de nata sweet and not too heavy but just heavenly crisp and a thick pudding like cream of heaven. There's a parking lot available on Fillmore, the atmosphere was laid-back, patrons sitting down either at the bar or on the serving tables. There's a larger dining area on the left side of the restaurant and a private room downstairs for a more private party. Waiters were attentive and courteous, they wanted to know how they can be of service as they checked in on the customers. There bartenders can be a little snarky but I understand it's challenging to be behind the counter. Next time Coimbra, overall well done.

Neighborhood family hotspot in the Ironbound. We ordered the clams in green sauce as an appetizer, and suckling pig and Extra Jumbo Shrimp With Head/ Gambas Grelhadas as our entrees. Everything was delicious and calls for a return visit.

The food was just ok. We ordered a soup, carapaus assados, Chicken picadinho, buffalo chicken wings, ate 2 lava cakes. The price for a Macallan12 @ $25 per doze is outrageous considering the surrounding establishments charge between $12 and $16. The service was slow! Spent over $60 (with a bottle of wine) per person with a baby and 2 childen. We will not be coming back!

Great authentic portuguese food. Amazing squid (grilled) and calamari, the food is always spectacular. Especially the cod fish items. Always pleasing to chat it up with the locals and the hostess. Parking can be a hassle if the lot is packed but never have a problem finding one nearby.

They should let you know when they have a special menu for certain holidays. Dishes were much more expensive on mothers day and my favorite dish was excluded from the menu. Service was subpar even though I've seen it busier. Overall I resent having to pay more for food I really didn't want.

I was there today with a party of 4 very disappointed I understand the place is busy. But you still have to serve the people customers the same way busy or not busy

came in two hours before close, was given a withering look by staff and told the kitchen was closed and we had to leave, despite having called earlier and asked when their kitchen closed?? 👎 unfortunate I couldn't try the food, when I was immediately felt/was made unwelcome here.

É a segunda má experiência neste restaurante. Não vai haver terceira. Deitámos $200 para o lixo porque ninguém o conseguiu comer.

I was pleasantly surprised at the service, the bar attendant's are very attentive to service. I didn't eat anything so I can't comment on the food. Shocked at reasonably priced the drink's are at this restaurant. I really expected it to be expensive, it's definitely not. The ambiance/lighting is great and it's not a loud place. I recommend it. Will definitely return to try the food.

This is my favorite restaurant in Newark, maybe all of New Jersey. I have had Leitao in NYC, Spain, Portugal and Puerto Rico, and this is the best of all. The service is great and it's not hard to feel like you're actually in Portugal (especially if Portuguese news or football are on the numerous TVs. NB, don't count on getting Leitao on weekdays, but all of the other dishes I've had there are also great.

Bad service, super aggressive attendant, doesn't have the patience to deal with new customers. Food did not represent authentic Portuguese food and drinks hots. We never go back in this place.
