Best Mexican food of my life…. I don’t have anything else just amazing, sauces, meat, service holy cow if you do one thing in life go eat a meal here.

Recommended by a friend. He raved about the moles. I got the Verde. It was alright. My friend got the Amarillo. It was better, but like pumpkin spice sweet. Make a rezzie. It gets crowded, all the time. "Spicy" isn't spicy, unless you're from the Midwest.

My family and I stopped here for dinner after a long day of travel and wow did we find a gem! We have gluten allergies and we were in great hands with Tony! He took excellent care of us, really went above and beyond, I couldn’t recommend him enough!! I had the tacos al pastor which were phenomenal (we are from Texas so we were pleasantly surprised with all of the food but especially the salsa). If you’re in the area and craving Mexican food you have to stop at the Red Iguana! 💜

Lived up to the hype. We went early (5pm) and waited less than 15 mins for a table. Good options - recommend the mole Verde, though I'm sure they're all good. We got a virgin margarita which came out with whipped cream and a cherry on top so didn't expect nor want that but there are plenty of other drink options, both alch and not. Kid friendly options and highchair available.

Very pleasant experience. This place is known for amazing Mole, make sure to order the sampler menu, then pick the one you desire. You can also ask for split ratio of two different Mole sauces. Our second best thing we had here was the tamarind margaritas, simply one of the best margaritas I had in my life. Staff were friendly, honestly they deserve 9k+ reviews!

This was the first time in a long time I had authentic Mexican food and it was amazing. Our waiters name was Tony and he was so attentive, and willing to joke around with us. Truly kind and contributed to the atmosphere of the place. Some of the best food and service I’ve had in a while- thank you Tony!

The food was edible, but I wasn't impressed. For all the hype surrounding this place the food was flavorless and bland like hampster cage filling. El Pollo is better in comparison by far.

Excellent place to make a stop for those looking for the authenticity of the flavor of Mexican dishes. Rodrigo attended to us and gave us friendly treatment and the best recommendations of the day.

We had only half an hour between trains, so we phoned in a take out order. They had it all ready to go when we ran in, nicely packaged up. The french fries and tortilla chips are excellent. My favorite entree was the house quesadilla with cheese, potato, and pork chorizo, served with guacamole. It was excellent.

We've been here a couple times before but years ago from what we remember and it was pretty good so we thought we'd bring my parents. We all waited outside because the restaurant is pretty small, the wait was maybe 10 minutes. It was a very unpleasant experience though because there is a lot of homeless around coming up to you and asking for money. The waiter was nice, not super friendly but she was nice nonetheless. I guess all of us weren't feeling adventurous because we all ordered the carne asada tacos lol. First thing I noticed was mine came with a hair on the salsa so my husband gave me his. The food wasn't hot at all and just felt semi warm, the tomatoes were old and the steak had no flavor whatsoever. My parents live in TX and they weren't wowed with the food either. My girls got chicken and cheese quesadilla and the bean and cheese burrito. The latter was basically all cheese and a schmear of beans, the other had no cheese and all chicken. The one good thing was the chips and salsa. But all of this to say we probably won't be coming back.

We were seated immediately for dinner, and we're waited on just as quickly. The daily specials were burrito carabeño and costilles en dos moles, both of which were great. The Spanish coffee was the cherry on top. Highly recommend!

White Waitress with reddish/ brown hair was extremely rude and had attitude. The food was fine but her attitude was beyond RUDE. Id never eat here again because of her.

We are hear based on recommendations from a foodie family member while staying in Salt Lake City. We were there right at 11:00 based on reviews about needing reservations, and we were in right at opening. The service was exceptional, after saying we hadn't been before the waitress explained the menu and gave us a sampler of the mole sauces. Then helped us order. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and at the end were also impressed they don't charge a fortune for the meal. Can't recommend enough if you're just in town for a day, as I'm sure all the locals already know about the place. Great food, great price, and great service.

I can't believe I waited eight months before visiting Red Iguana, place was filling up at 6pm with maybe four five parties outside waiting. I went for a Chile Colorado burrito and took it to go, burrito was pretty good but a little on the salty side. I will wait until Dec when my girlfriend comes and we can get the dine in experience!

Being from Texas, I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob. I'm extremely hard to impress, but Red Iguana was beyond my expectations. My fiancé and I arrived early on a Saturday night and only had about a thirty minute wait outside in the summer heat. The staff brought out cold bottles of water, which was refreshing and thoughtful. That being said, it was well worth the wait. I had the Puntos de Filete a la Nortena, and she had the Mole Coloradito. They were both incredibly layered in their flavors and either could have been shared as a meal alone. It's definitely one of the best Mexican food dishes I've ever eaten. Even though we were completely full, we definitely wanted to try dessert. I ordered the tres leches, and she had the flan. Both were amazing. Service was great, food was top notch, and the price was resonable. I highly recommend eating here.

Red Iguana never fails to impress with its delicious cuisine and welcoming atmosphere. A definite five-star dining destination that I highly recommend to all!

We didn’t have a reservation, so there was around a 20 minute wait for dinner. Service was good and food came quickly. Lots of options on the menu. Chips and guac were good. The entrees we ordered were decent.

we saw this restaurant on Diners, drive-ins and dives and knew we we had to check it out while we were in Salt Lake City. The service was great. We had reservations and we got in quickly. The food was amazing and there was a lot of it! Highly recommend!

Seriously, still the best Mexican in SLC!!!!

Several people have recommended this place so we decided to try it out. The place is in a bad part of town (north temple) and the building was old but well maintained and lively. Atmosphere was good with awesome music. For starters they brought out their mole sampler plate, very excited to try them all. The service staff was great as well. As for the food: Mole sampler: 1/5 maybe it was an off day for them but none of the mole sauces resembled their namesakes and the traditional one was too sweet with too much cinnamon. So sad about this. Cochinita pibil: 3/5 decent flavor, just couldn’t make out the pibil. Enchiladas Suizas: 2/5 they used the gross canned sauce for goodness sake. Mango enchiladas: 3/5 the mango flavor added to the canned sauce helped it but still tasted like canned sauce. Pechuga Poblana: 2/5 the 2 are for the chicken breast, it was juicy but bland. The whole plate was drowned in canned green sauce (why? The fresh salsa is so easy to make and tastes so much better), the couple shrimp were overcooked and shriveled up. Oh and the poblano rajas? They must have run out because they used tiny jalapeño strips instead, zero poblano flavor in the poblano dish. Guacamole: 3/5 decent flavor with too many fillers. Horchata: cheap/fake horchata, not made fresh. Rice: 2/5 they had white and Spanish, both dry and no flavor. Beans: 1/5 bland and flavorless. Oh the disappointment! I don’t understand all the hype, it was on par with your local fast food place. Nowhere near the flavor and quality of nearby places like Chile Tepin, Monarca and company. For a casual palate this might be all the Mexican flavor you need to be happy but for those with a taste for authentic cuisine, this is not it.

This place had some of the best food I've ever eaten. I love the Red Iguana the atmosphere, and all of the experience. This was the first time I'd had the Iguana plate and it was excellent.

Such a cute Mexican place…but the waiting time on a Saturday was a little longer than I expected. Definitely recommend to try to go on a weekday, it took us at least 40minutes to get called and you have to have all your parties to be present to allow in! Maybe I am just picky, I like the filling but not really the crispy taco shells here. I guess I am just more of a soft taco fan!

Tons of gluten free options! Food was absolutely amazing and worth the wait. Be prepared for it to be busy, we waited for 40 minutes. We ordered Puntas de Filete and Tacos de Hongos, both were sooo good! I also ordered a jalapeño margarita which was ok. I think if it had Tajin on the rim that would have helped a lot.

Absolutely GREAT! We are on a family road trip CA to CO. We found this by looking at reviews here going towards Colorado and thought we would give it a try. It was so good, we stopped in on our way back! My son had the Enchiladas Suiza on our first time, he and my wife enjoyed them again tonight. I enjoyed the Pechuga Poblana first night and the Carnitas tonight.

The mole is incredible! Ordered the Coloradito, classic mole with carnitas. They have 7 types of mole.

This Mexican place is the real deal, and it’s known for its mole dishes, which are SO good! The salsa and guacamole for the appetizer chips are also excellent.

This is definitely a great spot. The Best Mexican I have had since moving to the mid-west. Can't find good Mexican in WY. Gave a 3 star on service because my wife's 0late came with rice and beans, I order rice and beans with mine. And they never came. But they didn't charge for them. But I was looking forward to having them with my chimichanga. Which was very yummy. Got there at 11 am and first in the door. But it gets packed quick I mean fast. So plan ahead to keep from waiting in the heat. But didn't look like to long of a wait because the food was coming out fast once ordered.

Obviously had high expectations considering their reputation. I’d say a solid 4 stars. If I planned to be back in the area I’d give it another shot to bump things up to 5. If you can’t tell, this is more Tex-Mex style, which I enjoy. The salsa was pretty good. Too much cumin for me; a little goes a long ways. But the heat level was nice. None of that weak mild stuff here. Now I had to get the mole, since this is my only chance to try what makes this place famous. Really appreciated the option to try all the mole sauces prior to ordering. Coloradito was it for me. They all had pretty unique flavors. Even if you don’t end up getting mole, try the sauces. Carnitas comes with the Coloradito. I found the carnitas extremely fatty, which was a little upsetting. You get the choice of flour or corn tortillas. The corn are sooo good and fresh. Highly recommend. Flan was average, nothing crazy. Place is pretty small and for just myself it took 45 min to get seated on a Sunday so plan ahead

What a disappointment after all the hype and buzz. This was the first place we went to after arriving in SLC. We waited out on the curb for a table and were quickly greeted by our server. From this start it went own hill. Let me pause and say we have years of travelling in MX, and living in Atlanta where there is a big Hispanic population. The Red Iguana salsa was so mild as to be boring. The chips were standard fare. We ordered Carnitas, with great expectations, and were again disappointed - nothing spicy about the red sauce. After we complained to our server he said their customers insisted they make the food mild, that spicy dishes got sent back. If your a fan of real MX cooking (spicy & flavorful) this is NOT the place for you.

Get there before or after the crowd... Im not sure when that is but unbelievable food and service awaits!

Came in from Chicago to go to the Utah National Parks. First stop was Red Iguana and it was a good start to the trip. They had a super delicious special with shrimp and steak. We also ordered the three chicken tacos as well as some chicken flautas. Everything was excellent and plenty of food for the four of us. Extremely glad we made the trip here.

Best Mexican food and mole I have ever had.

I went multiple times while I lived in the area from 2011-2016. It was recommended to me by someone who lived in SLC for over ten years just before I moved to SLC from Texas. He was originally from Mexico and said it was legitimately the best Mexican food he had had in the States. It was always delicious, the service was always top notch, and it was always a good time. To this day, it's the best Mexican food I've ever had, and I lived in Texas for four years. Anytime I talk to someone who says they're going to SLC, I tell them to go here and to High West in Park City. I haven't had a single person come back with anything negative to say.

I only gave it three stars because the staff was so nice and friendly and accommodating. Other than that I don't see how it got so many four and five-star reviews. Both my husband and my meal had absolutely no flavor, I had the taquitos rice and beans and I don't even remember what he had. The only thing that tastes good was the Modelo beer we had. Our server was exceptionally nice and friendly but I would never go there again if I was in Salt Lake City area sorry. I make better Mexican food.
