I am the proverbial carnivore, I'm very picky about what vegetables I eat, and they are never the star of the show. I ordered the beef teriyaki bowl over brown rice, and it came with a melody of broccoli, snap peas, and zucchini. The beef teriyaki was very good, although I'll admit my wife's chicken teriyaki was exceptional, but for me the standout was the broccoli. That is by far the best broccoli I've ever had. When I got home, it was the broccoli I was craving, not the beef - which is quite absurd for me. It had really nice salty buttery flavor and I'd actually consider ordering an entire bowl of that next time. I would highly recommend the restaurant and the broccoli. The fried pork dumplings were also very good, they didn't taste like other pork dumplings I've had at other restaurants, but they were extremely "fresh" and well prepared.

Go to refined Asian cuisine, they have the best eel bowl!!

We’ve been to Roots many times and have had everything from cooked bowls to sushi, sashimi and rolls. The sushi is fresh and melts in your mouth.The pork buns are delicious as are the rock shrimp and just about everything else we’ve tried! We have never had a meal we haven’t loved.

The best restaurant PERIOD! It is the type of restaurant you keep going back to because you are addicted! Great prices, huge portions, and DELICIOUS. They are doing something right.

The ambiance is stunning, making it ideal for a date night or a casual lunch. The food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the pineapple mojito, which is freshly blended right at the front of the kitchen. The pork buns were delightfully fluffy with a tasty meaty filling. The general roots bowl was generously portioned and incredibly satisfying, bursting with flavor. Lastly the sushi was fresh and a must get. This spot is definitely worth a visit.

Roots is family favorite for south asian food: Great Service and Staff Come early to get table or call ahead for reservation to get a table to be safe after 630 pm. On my recent we had: Appetizers: Pork Buns - 3.5/5 Chicken lettuce wrap - 5/5 - ask for hot sauce for little heat. Always best. Spicy Miso Soup - 5/5 - always the best thing on the menu. Soft tofu, mushrooms, bak choy and ramen plus the egg. Just hot sauce if needed. Main meal: Ginger roots - tofu and green beans - 5/5 great ginger taste. Chicken Lo Mein - 4/5 - large portion need more flavor and hot sauce. This is an old classic spot.

This place is pricey, but the food is definitely worth it. My new favorite place to eat. The food is so fresh and delicious

I got the tofu and dumplings, huge portions. Awesome flavor. I got at like three different flavors in my dish. All unique really enjoyed the food here would highly recommend if you want a good spot around the Princeton area.

One of the best places to eat delicious Asian cuisine. They serve a mix of different Asian cuisines. Serving size is really big and their service is great. Helpful and accommodating staff. We loved their shrimp roll, Thai basil fried rice. Their juices are fresh and refreshing.

Been here 3x and I stopped. Always on point with service but could be sssooooo much flavorful. Bland like American Chinese. Always piping hot and beautifully presented though. Like what chef boyardee is to ronzoni but not that harsh lol like it’s trying hard to be scrumptious…. Maybe I just like Thai so much more.

I tried the sushi for the first time yesterday. A few hours after eating a mango shrimp roll I began having major food poisoning symptoms that kept me up all night. I felt like something was coming since I had to throw the roll out since it tasted off. The only thing I had before this was a coffee that day. Giving them 2 stars since in the past I felt like it was good quality food but never again.

Definitely would NOT recommend I couldn’t tell you how the food is because we didn’t even get that far !! My friend made a reservation for her birthday a week in advance, we show up for that reservation and the restaurant was packed and had no table for us. We went up to the hostess to tell her our party was there and she said we would have a wait time even though we had a reservation!!!! Safe to say we walked out and went to modern fusion who accommodated us right away with no wait !!!! Go to modern fusion they’re the best skip out on roots

It’s nice ambiance. There are quite some veg options there. I liked pineapple mojito and veg dumplings. They were out of coffees (latte/ cappuccino, etc) which I expected to have as the menu is already small. Overall quality and quantity is good. I had better Thai coconut curry before but it was good too.

Great food all the time. Service is always fast. Prices are very reasonable. In the Princeton area one of the best.

Phenomenal food and service in casual dining atmosphere!

Ilove this place, they are fast, the food is fresh, and it taste great. The only issues that l've noticed is the lack of sitting space but like the casual takeout environment. If you are new and want to try something great, their Thai Basil and Yellow Curry are pretty awesome!

Our first visit today - very pleased with the choice of vegetarian options - we had steamed veg dumplings, vegetarian drunken noodles and vegetarian pho soup - excellent all around. Going to try other vegetarian items on next visit.

Incredible place, food, service, and atmosphere. Everything I’ve tried so far has been really good. My favorite dish so far is the Kimchi Fried rice. I wish I took a picture of. I get it with the beef in it too, and the beef is always incredibly tender, and seared well. They really know what they’re doing here. I will be back, and I recommend you go to.

Food has a lot of oil and owner is disgustingly rude. There are better restaurants in the area for the price and hostile treatment. Avoid.

Fast service, large portions, great foods! Hubby and I went for lunch on a work day and the place was packed. The foods come out quickly after ordering (5-10 mins dependent on the course), and pipping hot which is much appreciated on a cold day. If you’re looking for super traditional cuisine, this place is not for you since it has anything from Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai etc on the menu. However, if you’re looking for a solid tasty Asian meal, then this is the right calling. We got a wonton soup (small) with meat filling and spinach in the soup and it was decent, not memorable. The shrimp hahkow was steaming hot in the steamer and sauce tasted so delicious. My spicy veggie Thai Basil on white rice was yummy and just the right amount of kick with the chunks of Thai chilies mixing in. Hubby got Street noodles with charsiu pork which was on a richer side since the pork was the same pork belly on the bao bun. Another solid dish that I get every other time is the drunken noodle with beef, and sushi are great too.

Really good and casual place !! Amazing vegetarian miso ramen and drunken noodles were great too! We also snacked on edamame and sipped on Thai ice tea.

Great spot in a non-descript strip center. Clean, hip interior with a fun pan asian menu. We were impressed with everything we ate. Wonton soup and edamame were great starters. Pork bun and gyoza were excellent. Large portion and super yummy. Our sushi rolls were good. Most rolls are based on shrimp tempura. I would go back for everything else on the menu. Sushi scratched an itch, but the other Asian was awesome. Call for reservations

We're big fans of this place, it's our go-to whenever we're in the area. If I were to describe the place in one word it would be consistent. We probably ate there 4 times last year and six on this trip and the dishes were always the same which is something I have a tough time saying about any restaurant. We love the staff, the atmosphere and of course the food. Would definitely recommend

The vegetarian noodle bowls lack flavor. If you enjoy vegetarian dishes try the Pho Chay or Miso soup.

This place is amazing! I work right down the street and go to roots, at least once a week for lunch. You cannot go wrong with any option on the menu. I just wish they had a location close to my house!

Nice Chinese place with modern decor.. even though they call themselves as Asian food and yes they have a Asian menu but this is a Chinese place as flavors are typical American Chinese restaurant. We ordered pork dumplings, veg spring rolls , teriyaki chicken bowl and basil chicken .. spring rolls are crispy and good but super small in size. Steamed dumplings are average I found the dumpling shell had a lot of dough and chewy. Bowls are good, have good blend of veggies and meat/chicken etc. But their sauces are typical Chinese brown saude which does it pair well with Thai basil with a tinge of Thai chili. Rice however was undercooked. Their format is good I think they might be better off adding food from different regions of China as it seems that is their strength rather than going pan Asian and making dishes mediocre. Overall good place for a quick bite when you don’t have much expectations and want well cooked clean food. If you are one looking for pan Asian restaurant where you could get Chinese, Thai and Japanese flavor in one place this is definitely not that one.

Had the pork buns and chicken lettuce wraps and it was really delicious. I didn't eat in the restaurant I did pick up on my way home from work and I am really glad that I stopped in. The only thing that was a disappointment was I ordered utensils so I could sit in the park to eat and I had to go home because they forgot the utensils.

I like this spot. The food is always very fresh and cooked to perfection. This last visit I had the seafood bowl with the curry sauce which was a little spicy but I knew that going in. The veggies are always crispy. This is my second time here and I'll definitely be back. Went in the late afternoon on a Saturday and no wait. Definitely a good food spot.

One of the better Asian restaurants in the area. The food is fresh with a nice variety of options, Thai, Japanese, and Korean. They can customize dishes to suit particular diets, which I appreciate as someone who follows a plant-based diet. The kimchi is great and it's vegan! Add as a side to any dish if you like heat. The veg pho is vegan and quite good. They don't have too many vegetarian sushi rolls but they are good as well. Rather than just offering the usual white or brown rice with dishes, you can get black and tan rice which is hearty, nutty, and sweet!

Since I visited after lunch, it was quiet. It is spacious and has a modern, simplistic style, so it doesn't seem like a traditional Chinese restaurant with red and gold characters of luck. The noodles arrived quickly after we ordered them. My root ramen was good. Its soup wasn't too salty or greasy. It was sweet and salty with soy source in my son's noodles. Both noodles had well-cooked meat. I rarely eat in Princeton, so I don't know whether it's expensive there, but I thought it was a little pricey. The restrooms were the only thing I didn't like. No lady or man signs and the trashcan is wide open, so you can see everything inside. That was disgusting.

Nice and clean indoors and felt comfortable- loved the amount of space between each table- but food was not flavorful. Very few vegan options and waiters are not educated on what is vegan/ not. Would not recommend. We ordered this as vegans: - Miso soup: pretty decent, but all taste the same so how could you go wrong - Drunken noodles: super bland and no flavor - Spring rolls: tiny and crispy- i enjoyed these Save yourself a trip and go somewhere with more authentic thai flavors!

Great food. Tasty. Not authentic but very trendy. The only critique is that you’ll be very thirsty after so either lots of sodium or msg in their food.

The food was delicious! Both my kids loved their dishes. It was our first time there and we look forward to coming back. The staff, service and ambiance were great too! We recently went again (March 2023) and would give it 5 stars again! See pictures of new dishes below.

Lo Mein with Chicken and Ginger Chicken were both very good Vegetable Spring Rolls were good, too.

Great service and ambiance. The miso soup was fine, nothing special. Tartare had great presentation but im not sure if the ponzu was a bit funky or the tuna was less than fresh. The spicy salmon Hand roll was amazing. The Taiwanese brisket noodle soup i didn’t like, but it was my first time trying it.

Really enjoyed our dinner. The food was very authentic. Just the right amount of spice and flavor. Would highly recommend the scallion pancakes some of the best I’ve had. The fried vegetable dumplings were also very good. Plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options to choose from.

Great ambience and quick service. Food was pretty standard taste-wise - I got the scallion pancakes, avocado cucumber rolls, and the grilled tofu. None of them stood out to me perse, but overall was a good experience.

Decent food , reasonable prices . We tried veg , shrimp dumplings , scallion pan cake , noodles , Thai curry vegetables with pink rice , mango proms . Reservations are recommended as lot of customers on Friday and waiting in lines .. overall good experience .

Friend and I visited yesterday. Staff was helpful and service was quick around 3 PM. I got the thai basil rice bowl and the flavor was amazing. Tofu was crisp as well. My friend enjoyed his volcano roll and was filling. Definitely recommend. Great seating area and ambience. Perfect for a date as well

Best place in between Philly and NYC. the freshest food EVER. The fresh fruit juices are a pick me pper and yummy.. been ordering from here for years.. coconut bowl is my favorite.

We loved the food, the only problem was flies, little fruit flies around the food. Kinda unpleasant.

Really enjoyed the tofu purple rice bowl, lots of tofu which was exactly what I wanted. A little sweet but delicious. I will come back and try the other bowls.

I got the Angry Dragon Roll, the Roots roll, and a Thai Iced Tea. The rolls in particular were delicious! The Angry Dragon had this great crunchy tempura throughout the roll that stood out. My only complaint was that service was very slow and there weren't even that many people there. It took a few minutes for someone to even greet us and give us a table. It took 5 minutes for someone to just bring us water, not even the menus.

My husband always gets his favorite meal, but the last three times the chicken was less crispy and they put so much sauce that it made the meal soggy and too sweet. We were told they had a new chef for about 3 months now

Gross. Really loved this place prior to my lunch experience yesterday. There was a clump of human hair in our kimchi appetizer. When we notified our server he blamed it on my jacket (black sherpa jacket). Jackets don’t shed in clumps that look like human hair. They did remove the kimchi from the bill but wish they would have taken accountability for it instead of blaming it on my jacket. There was also a gnat in the lettuce that came as a garnish to my sushi. (I know it happens but between the hair and gnat I was really grossed out).

Had a soup a curry and sushi and all were delicious. A bit crowded but I suppose that is a good sign for a restaurant. No real wait, was clean, restroom was clean enough also.

Roots has passed the test of time. The food is consistently excellent, the menu options can please anyone, the servers are friendly, and the atmosphere is great!

Really cool & casual Thai cuisine restaurant with a large airy room.  The staff is very attentive & will answer all your questions.  I got the Teriyaki grilled chicken bowl with white rice.  They specialize in vegan meals.  Their teas are unique & delicious.

I have been to this restaurant three times, and I have enjoyed it each time! Their staff is very kind and helpful every time, and the atmosphere is more of a fancy dinner spot if your looking for a more formal place to eat. I would highly recommend their sushi rolls, kani salad, drunken noodles, and especially their thai iced tea!

We celebrated our son's rehearsal lunch at the US1 location. The staff was very accommodating and the food was delicious.

The service was great, the food presentation was good as well. Appetizers were flavorful and delicious unfortunately the 'roots ramen' was terrible. Somehow it was devoid of flavor completely. The pork was tough and flavorless, the only thing close to a flavor was a slight hint of corn, which to my knowledge there was no corn in the dish at all. It was like when you boil corn on the cob and the water smells like corn. Overall if I ate from here again it would just be for appetizers.

Came here for my older brother’s birthday. Roots did not disappoint. It actually seems like it’s competing with the nearby P. F. Chang’s in MarketFair. Our waiter was amazing and got all of our orders correct (because the reservation was for 17 people), not to mention, he was pretty funny. I got a General Roots chicken bowl with white rice and it was SO GOOD. Will be coming back again.
