Best sushi I’ve ever had in Maine. 11/10

Came here on a whim, and glad I did! Food was great but what made it better was having Matt as the server. I let him choose the sushi for me and everything was fantastic! I would recommend making a reservation for they are limited on seating but will worth it! P.S cheese balls were a nice touch!

Chris and his team are dedicated to providing a warm, expert, memorable dining experience. The food is spectacular with freshest ingredients and creative twists on even the must get classics (miso soup and spicy tuna for the win). Book in advance - you won’t regret it!

Should have came here night one on our trip. Came in on Saturday with a group of 10 and was immediately welcomed by Chris with a friendly smile as he arranged space for us at the bar. We sat in awe as the small group of chef’s prepared a breathtaking meal as they answered every question we had. From the Spicy Cucumber and sip-able Mizo soup to the Big rolls and nigiri, everything is truly exceptional. TRY EVERYTHING! Cannot wait to come back

Eating at Rosella is the ultimate sushi experience. Executive Chef Matt provides a guided dinner that is second to none. The highlight was the nigiri pieces. Fresh, flavorful and delicious, but all of the items including curry, salad and dessert were amazing. Come hungry and be prepared to eat the meal of your life. Highly recommend and we will be back soon!

Best sushi/lunch I've had in a long time. I HIGHLY recommend this place. The spicy cucumber plate, miso soup, and lean Bluefin tuna nigiri are off the charts good. The Bluefin is melt in your mouth delicious, flavored and presented perfectly.

One of the better high end sushi restaurants we’ve experienced. I was a little skeptical as KPT is touristy but as a previous reviewer noted this is a sleeper. Every piece of nigiri sushi was delicious with layers of flavors that accentuated the quality of the ingredients. I recommend the nigiri over the maki. The bluefish nigiri was exceptional. The sushi chefs are interactive and take time to talk about their creations. Interesting wine list including a number of natural wines.

Food was incredible- dragonfly salad a must, oyster shooters so good! Roll size is small but quality was top notch! Bagel on the Hudson with steel head trout was outstanding! KPT crab roll is a must! It’s expensive but worth it!

Rosella is an absolutely must go. The service was incredible, Chris gave amazing recommendations down to the finest of details. Great atmosphere in a small, intimate setting. But most of all, the food was to die for. Incredible flavor combinations that you will not find at any other restaurant. We are returning again before the end of our trip, we loved it that much!

Definitely upscale sushi. Miso soup made with farro. Sushi is prepared such that it has multiple flavors that follow each other and blend well, especially the steelhead trout. Oyster shooters were a delightful addition. Our server was very knowledgeable and guided us through choices that together were just enough to sate everyone without overdoing it. Dishes are served for the table rather than individuals so we each got to experience everything.

Very, very expensive. It's not the prices that are high. Rather, the sushi and sashimi pieces themselves are very small. I was also surprised to see a 20% service charge automatically added to the bill. Now I'm a 20-25% tipper, but this all seemed quite presumptuous to me. The sushi chefs are amiable and they serve uniquely prepared but small portions. They're delicious, just very small. I've gotten more generous portions in NYC! I'm a sushi enthusiast and have eaten it up and down both US coasts as well as in Europe. So when I say portions are small I have a solid base of comparison. If I were to rate on quality of food alone, I'd say 5 stars. But the portion size and service charge left me feeling this place had an abundance of two things: conceit and arrogance.

The food, service, attention to detail, drinks pairing and atmosphere were outstanding. A huge surprise in Kennebunk Port and worth the extra money for sure. The chef team behind the counter and what I gather are the owners pulling the strings front of house were attentive and highly professional. I’m still thinking about the “Laska,” fatty tuna and the fermented rice dessert.

Delicious food, hip atmosphere. Some of the best sushi we’ve ever had. Awesome flavors. Service was good, but we were surprised that they added an automatic 20% gratuity to the check. In the end this doesn’t matter, we are 20%+ tippers anyway and had no complaints about the service, but it seemed unusual to do for a party of 3 people. Maybe it was because it was a slow night for them? Or maybe our age triggered it (we’re in our 30s)? Since I didn’t see that policy written anywhere on the menu it felt targeted to us, and left a bit of a sour note on an otherwise excellent evening. Just a heads up to future customers who might care about that.

The atmosphere was the best thing about Rosella. The staff was the second best. I know you don't go to Lower Village Kennebunk expecting a deal, but this was one of the most expensive places I have gone for sushi, and it was just good. If this was 1/2 the price I would consider going back. Also, be sure to read the smallest print on the menu, yvat is where the tell you ghat a 20% gratuity is added to the prices "so we can pay our staff a good wage." We would have left that much in tip for the level of service we received. They were good and attentive. Again, nothing was bad, but there are so many options for great food at a similar or lower price.

I adored this place. If you want to try unique flavors, this is the spot. Chef Matt and his team provided us with an amazing experience. They are rich in talent and knowledge in what they do. I usually don’t like soy sauce, but theirs is the best I’ve ever tried. The niguiri surpasses Uni Boston; no comparison in flavor. I love sitting at the bar table and engaging with the chef, learning while enjoying the food. It’s a new restaurant in Kennebunkport, a great place for food lovers

Rosella Restaurant - 1 Chase Hill Rd, Kennebunk, ME The service was outstanding from Chris, Katie, Genevieve and of course Max the Sushi chef. The food was exactly not originally what we were looking for but, have now become total fans of. “We were so pleased with the service and the food from Rosella we decided to make it back as often as can. They went above and beyond to help us learn about Sushi and to find the perfect items.” Five Stars each for Food, Service, Atmosphere, Dinning Experience and Five stars apiece for the staff members… Bob Seger wrote the lyrics…. Well you walk into a restaurant all strung out from the road. And you feel the eyes upon you as you're shakin' off the cold…. This is how our night was going as we entered Rosella until manager Chris greeted us warmly and escorted us to our seats. Menus in hand we realized that we’d stumbled into a Sushi restaurant which neither of us were a fan of. We decided to make the best of our mistake and figured we’d order a soup to cut the evening chill order and a glass of wine. This is where the magic began to change a bad night into the most wonderous dining adventure we’d ever experienced … Max the Sushi Chef asked us two simple questions… * Ques1. What do you both like? Ans. Well we love fish but, not so sure about raw fish.. * Ques2. Can I interest you in trying a bite? Ans. Sure why not…. Max began swaying back and forth like a pendulum, knife in one hand slicing through various cuts of Black Sea Bass, Blue Fin Tuna, Smoked Steelhead Trout and in the other splashes of spices, all locally sourced fish from New England….do yourself a favor and get yourself to Rosella for a Down East meal lifetime!

I can’t say enough good things about this establishment. From the sushi chefs to service and everything in between. This is a hidden gem that more people should know about, they care about quality and the customers. You can make it easy on the wallet if you’d like to or go above and beyond with a little more spending power. Either way you won’t be disappointed, I promise you that.

Never have I had a dining experience as fun as this. My wife and I sat at the bar and both did the tasting menu, and let chef Matt decide over the evening what to make us. So glad we did that instead of just getting our usual spicy tuna rolls, though I'm sure that's amazing here too. Every piece of nigiri was so different but so good. Cool chatting with Matt and his team and seeing them work too. Will definitely go back if we're ever in the area.

I do not usually take the time to review places - I should more often! - but this place was phenomenal. I am new to the sushi world and I would say it’s fair that anyone that doesn’t think they like sushi probably would after visiting Rosella. I sat at the chef’s table/bar. The entire team was welcoming from the get go and seemed happy to be there. I let the chef take the reigns and provide what he thought was best and was blown away. Food was amazing, service was amazing, fantastic mocktails created at request, & dessert was equally phenomenal. A must stop for every visit to Maine!

Delicious food & very kind staff. Pretty pricey though. I was still a little hungry so I got a side order of rice and it was $5 which I thought was a little excessive. I got soy sauce spilled on me by accident so they comped me a couple of items. Didn’t do much to fix the damage but it was something. I totally recommend this place bc the food was spectacular but definitely cover your lap with napkins :)

Honestly, one of the best meals I've had in my life and easily the best sushi. Everyone who works there is so kind and knowledgeable and the food is incredible. As a humble Mainer, I was a little nervous about prices before going but my fears were totally unfounded. Seriously, everything is such high quality and it doesn't take more than a roll or two of exceptional sushi-grade fish to be filling. Of course, everything was so delicious that we had more than that and left extremely stuffed. Every aspect of the meal was so thoughtful and I really appreciate the attention that was paid to the different fermented foods, from the miso soup to the pickled ginger. In a way, Rosella has kind of ruined my life because I can no longer eat mediocre sushi served elsewhere. No matter though, we will be back here many times I'm sure! Sit at the bar if you can and chat with Chef Matt while he and his team work their magic.

Went based on Condé Nast’s recommendation. Everything we had was delicious. We had the spicy cucumber, ceviche, Xo mazeman, and nigiri (fluke, porgy, bluefish, and Texas wagyu beef) all of which were locally fished except for the wagyu. We also had the spicy tuna big roll. It was very good, but if we could do it again (we will), we probably would have preferred more nigiri instead of the big roll. We finished with the miso carrot cake which was wonderful. We sat at the bar which was a nice experience. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back!

After a very disappointing experience at another area restaurant claiming to be 5*, we walked into Rosella starving, with no reservation. The host greeted us immediately and delightfully explained to us what kind of experience we’d receive at the sushi bar (their first available seating). Her warmth helped us out of our funk and into the excitement of our meal to come. Our chef, Genevieve, guided us in selecting a mix of sashimi, nigiri, and big rolls that were perfectly crafted and the right amount of food for our preferences. We enjoyed Negroni Sour’s and Chenin Blanc with the meal, great recommendations from their Somm and cocktail team. With a sister property in NYC, we had no doubt everything would be tasty but we were elated by how delicious and how professional their staff was. Given the fact that we’ve had mediocre food or service at many other restaurants in the area, we were thrilled by the total package Rosella offers. A true testament to their quality and approach to small batch sourcing, several dishes began to sell out quickly. Since we were a later (unexpected) seating, we would like to go back earlier in the evening another time to ensure we get to try more things before they sell out! We likely will return again on this trip, and highly recommend this restaurant to others. Thank you for having us!

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Rosella Sushi in Kennebunkport last night, and I must say it was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. From start to finish, every aspect of our visit was exceptional. First and foremost, we had the pleasure of chatting with Matt, the executive chef, who was not only incredibly talented but also a delight to talk to. His passion for his craft was evident, and it enhanced our overall experience. The team of Kelsey, Greta, and Genevieve flawlessly prepared each dish we ordered, leaving us in awe of their skill and attention to detail. From the presentation to the taste, every plate that arrived at our table was simply incredible. The quality of ingredients was evident, and the flavors were harmonious. One standout dish for us was the miso soup. It was truly out of this world. The balance of flavors, the depth of the broth, and the freshness of the ingredients came together to create a cup of perfection. We couldn't get enough of it! The nigiri pieces of shrimp, Texas Wagyu and pickled mussels were unlike anything we’d had before. Truly delicious. The Bagels-On-Hudson roll must have had 26 flavors to it in the absolute best way possible. We can’t forget the exceptional orange wine recommendation that we received from the hostess. Not only was the wine fantastic, but when we left the restaurant I received an immediate call letting us know that we left our credit card. They even offered to drop it off to us the next day. Who does that!? Overall, our time at Rosella Sushi was nothing short of exceptional. The culinary expertise, the friendly staff, and the remarkable flavors all combined to create a dining experience that exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a truly memorable meal as we won’t forget it for a very long time.
