The beetroot and flat bread experience...so good

I used to love going to this restaurant when the little Arab lady was the waitress along with the blonde haired lady during the day. The food is terrific albeit a little bit expensive. I would literally come in once a week. I have for 2+ years. The two servers I mentioned previously actually knew my order without even having to ask me. That's how often I would go to this restaurant. However, in the last few months, the service has drastically gone down. The new servers don't seem to care about the customer anymore. I just left the restaurant at 8:25 even though they close at 9:00. They had the lights on and the guy was already packing up. I asked if it was okay if I grab something real quick and he gave me a smug look then said that they close in 20 minutes even though a child knows that it would have been 35 minutes. That would have been plenty of time. I work in Hospitality so I avoid being the guy at the last minute. They could have easily fixed something up and I would have been out of there in no time. If they want to close at 8:30 then that's when they should advertise as closing. Not 9:00 p.m. I could have even gotten something to go. But hey, if they don't want my money anymore then maybe I'll stop going here. This isn't the first time I've had lackluster service there recently. Let's not even go into the multiple times I've tried to go in and they had some sort of private party where they shut down the entire restaurant without telling anyone. There have also been days where they close several hours early. I would drive 20 minutes just to get there for absolutely nothing. Well, not completely nothing. I'm going to go up the street and eat at Nirvana or one of the other restaurants who still value my money and patronage. I doubt the young guy who runs this place even reads these reviews.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Saj. Our William was delightful. The flavors were rich and the service was prompt and gracious. I highly recommend.

We love Saj, it is one of our go to restaurants in the neighborhood! The food is AHMazing & the service is always great! You feel like you are part of the family.

The place was nicely decorated. It was slow when we went in, but it was after 2:00 p.m. So late lunch. William greeted us and sat us right down. Once we ordered, the food came out quickly. I've never had Saj before. That's the bread. It was fantastic. We dipped the Saj into the roasted red pepper stuff. It had just the right amount of k kick. We also got a grilled vegetable plate and a chicken kabob plate. They both came with rice, hummus, and a salad. We shared everything and couldn't finish it. We had one more piece of saj, so I put everything into the saj and made a wrap, which was just as delicious the next day. Definitely WILL go back. The only thing I didn't like was that they charge more for credit card, but didn't have any cash on hand to make change..... not good business practice. js

Ordered take out from here and it was quite good! I recommend :)

We arrived at 7:45 pm and the restaurant had zero customers. We asked them if they are closed because their hours are till 9. They gave us 15 minutes to order and takeaway. We ended up going to a different place.

Absolutely delicious. Best Mediterranean food in New Orleans. I usually don’t eat a lot, but I couldn’t help but finish my entire plate. Portion sizes were great too. I feel so full and can’t stop thinking about the next time. I’m gonna come back.

I loved this place. Everything we ordered was excellent. We did most of the appetizers of everything we ate the baked feta was my favorite.

Great food service and atmosphere, I’m not usually a soda drinker but when you see housemade you can’t pass on it. I recommend the tamarind. The food was excellent as the food hot, fresh and exactly what I expected.

We ordered about half the menu with a table of six to share. I’ve tasted everything and really, everything was delicious. Even the hummus (and I’m NOT a hummus guy). Try the baked feta. Really, I can recommend this place from the heart 👌🏼

Here’s the thing. Nothing bad about this place. At all. The dishes are well presented. The flavors are great! But the portions…it looks like a lot but it’s hard to fill up on Greek food (though it’s harder if you can’t eat flour/tortillas like me.) Both me and my family member wished they gave us more. The chicken kebab is essentially two lines of chicken that was on a kebab but is now on a plate. Dang that chicken tastes good. As far as Greek flavor goes, that was the best tasting Greek food I’ve had yet in the city. Vegetables were also all very fresh. In terms of the price, it can add up quick since the service is very effortless. When asking for something it doesn’t require any effort. They are open and receptive. Which means, if you need something, they won’t hesitate. Great service.

This is my favorite restaurant in the city! Hands down! It doesn’t matter if it’s delivery, pickup or dine in, this place always hits the spot. The Saj, paella, kufta, and fish are all delicious! You can’t go wrong here. The different house made sodas are also so much fun. And don’t get me started on the service... Everyone is so sweet. Tell a friend to tell a friend to check them out!

We had an amazing meal! Much more straightforward food than Saba or Shaya. Had the hummus, baked feta and goat cheese appetizers. They were all incredible. The flatbread was insanely delicious. We also had a greek salad, chicken kabob, grilled vegetables, rice and red snapper. Everything was absolutely delicious!

Really good food, atmosphere and service. I’ll come back more often for sure.

Best falafel I ever had. Pomegranate Glazed Chicken Kabab - could use a little bit more salt but wonderful food!! The bread came with the food was amazing, a great chewiness and slightly bitterness, perfect. Great service.

We are visiting New Orleans from Atlanta, and friends recommended Saj. We tried out much of their menu, and everything was fresh and delicious. Hard to say which one was my favorite. I think the goat cheese with nuts, the paprika spread, the pomegranate chicken kabob, the kofta. The bread is brought warm. Service was great too - prompt and warm. Will definitely be back. In a city with a history of standout Mediterranean food (thanks to Alon Shaya), Saj misses the mark. The muhamara, baked feta, and lamb chops were delicious, and the saj bread was a great accompaniment. Pricing is a bit on the high side, $18 for a simply grilled and seasoned 1/2 grilled eggplant, 1/4 red pepper, 1 carrot, and 1 zucchini is pretty ridiculous. Furthermore, the moussaka tampenede had very little flavor, just tasted like cold vegetables covered in acrid tomato sauce, and the “baklava cheesecake” resembled neither baklava or cheesecake, but rather overnight oats without a crust or crunchy nut to balance the mushy consistency. Regarding service, drinks didn’t come out until halfway through the meal when we had to remind the waitress. When we barely touched the “cheesecake”, and she asked how it was, we were honest that it wasn’t what we expected based on the menu description and we didn’t like it. She responded with “No, it’s good! Do you want a box?” It might have been due to a language barrier, but there was no recognition of the delayed drinks or our distaste of the desert, and overall we had to ask for different things like the plates to be cleared every time we needed something. It seems San is thriving off the fact that people are charmed by the BYOB aspect and two or three “great” plates, but the rest of the menu is uninspired.

This place was ILLEGALLY good. Best middle eastern food I've had in the city- authentic but not your run of the mill gyro spot. The food actually brought me back to home. The Moussaka reminded me of Moroccan zaalouk, the kufta made me love lamb again, the Paella tasted like something a mom would make (but 10x better). For the quality of the food and how nothing disappointed, the prices were unbelievably reasonable. It's just a bonus that the service is amazing and the decor is gorgeous. It's literally a place where it's both fine to dine alone or have a dinner party.

The food is INSANELY good. We had the lamb chops and the Middle eastern paella, best cooked lamb I have had in a while, crispy and charred on the outside and perfectly soft and seasoned on the inside. The paella with the saffron rice was so flavorful. I don't know what spice combinations were included but it was very balanced. The rice that was added to our order came out a little slow but besides that our orders came out quite quickly and staff was attentive. Be aware,the menu options are limited but probably a sign that every dish is made with care and attention. Will be coming back.

Don't overlook this Magazine St. restaurant, the food here is absolutely delicious! We got the lamb kufta, chicken shawarma, and hummus. And of course the bread! Everything was incredible, and we can't wait to return to try more of the menu. Also, the atmosphere was very pleasant, and the service was great. 10/10 would recommend.

Experience here was great! From the moment we walked through the door to leaving. Everything was top notch. The drinks were amazing, the appetizers, and entrees. Customer service from our waiter was excellent. Definitely will be coming by again.

Wow! The Kufta, the moussaka tapenade, the Mediterranean paella and tiramisu are amazing. Also the bread! Great service and vibe. Affordable prices.

Omg the food is amazing. The atmosphere radiates class and elegance. The hummus was so creamy and nutty. The feta was perfect and the crème brûlées honey on top was divine.

We had chicken Shawarma, hummus and saffron rice and all the Saj bread one can eat. Two breads were enough for us. Some of the best middle eastern food I have had. Service was slow since only two people were working. The restaurant was very busy and all the dishes looked and smelled amazing. Nice ambiance, very clean and modern decor. Will definitely go back!

Wonderful middle eastern food. Loved the lamb, the feta and the chicken especially. It’s a small staff so take your time and enjoy. Don’t be hurried.

Ya'll. Go here. I wanted to forgo an actual "dinner plate" and eat 6 small plates, but my husband said no. He made me limit the starters to two items, so we ordered goat cheese & kufta. It was a little sly on my part because the kufta is served on labna, and the dinner plates come with hummus, thereby ensuring I would taste 4 of the appetizer options. Holy goodness! The labna mixed with the red gravy was killer. It's one of those dishes that makes me sad I'm not a local. The goat cheese was creamy, and the honey drizzled on top gave it the perfect amount of sweetness. My husband ordered chicken shawarma - because of course he did. It's one of his favorites. He eats it at every Mediterranean place we go. He was very happy with his choice at Saj, too. I ordered the Mediterranean Salad with lamb (gyro). It was good. Exactly what I expected, and they don't skimp on the vegetable toppings. We finished our gigantic meal off with the Baklava Cheesecake. It was phenomenal. We don't usually order sweets, but we were very happy we did this time. It wasn't what we expected. The phyllo isn't the main flavor, nor is there anything crunchy about it. Order it with your appetizers so you don't forget. It's spectacular.

The location is not nice, the furniture is not comfortable waited for a salad for 30 minutes and was very sweet to eat not enough staff too

The quality of the food was exceptional, but the chicken was over cooked and dry. Our server had a terrible attitude, never checked to see if we needed anything else and forgot one of the entrees. She rude and made you feel as if you were an inconvenience.

I love @sajnola !! I could come back over and over again and every small plate is just perfect. I’m especially obsessed with the baked feta. Bread was amazing and is not filling as say pitas, and it’s even better for their amazing small plates cuz u get to have more!! I also order grilled lamb every time!!! Btw it’s so byob 😍

Stumbling upon Saj in our first day in the Big Easy was an incredible surprise. We ordered a few small plates: the stuffed grape leaves melted in my mouth bursting with complex flavors. The muhammara was excellent, along with the limitless supply of their eponymous bread, Saj, which is a crispy thin flatbread which one adorns with hummus, baba ghanoush or muhammara. The friendly service and warm atmosphere makes this one of my favorite middle eastern restaurants of all time.

Small plates are amazing. The goat cheese with honey is the best ever. All of the dishes have a fresh taste. Our new go-to for Mediterranean.

Best vegetarian grape leaves (dolmas) we have ever had! The lamb chops, snapper, chicken kebabs, goat cheese, and paella were all excellent as well. I will absolutely return, and probably just order dolmas and bread.

We were greeted by a wonderful young lady who happened to also be our server. We were a group of 5 guys visiting from another state and craving some middle eastern food. This place did not disappoint. Excellent service, apps and main dishes. The food was portioned and priced perfectly. It also served one of the best Turkish coffees we have had.

While visiting New Orleans, I was looking for the best gyro around and this place did not disappoint! Not only was the gyro plate one of the best I ever had, the baked feta was out of this world! Our waitress was also so precious and extremely friendly! Can’t wait to come back!

A great new addition to the magazine st corridor! The menu is straightforward and varied. The hummus is exceptional and in my view better than both Shaya and Saba. The Saj bread is more akin to a light naan and a more flavorful and useful option than a traditional puffy pita. They are still working on hiring additional staff so the service may be a little slower but it’s absolutely worth it!

Authentic Mediterranean restaurant with healthy & delicious food. Their Saj bread is one of the best. I highly recommend it.
