We just returned from a few months in Japan. Sapa tries hard but misses the mark on a few items. 1. No paper menu is ridiculous. At nearly 70 yrs old trying to read a digital menu off a tiny cell screen is near impossible. 2. The Nori is extremely chewy low quality but not the worse quality. I would never serve such a low quality nori to my friends and family. 3. The rice was average. 4. The fish was excellent in flavor and quality. 5. We both totally enjoyed the seaweed salad and would order it again and again. A little less sugar would make it perfect. 6. Hot/cold tea does not come with the meal. Very shocking. In Japan, China, Korea, Singapore etc etc the restaurant owner would be shamed for not including tea especially for such a high priced menu. Two people: $100 and not full. Japan the same meal would be about $22-25 as of 4 months ago but we live in a near hyper inflation environment thanks to our current leadership in Washington and locally. The pictures is $100 worth...yah shocking

Sapa is my favorite Sushi place in the valley. The food is tasty and fresh. Service is solid. Overall top notch establishment.

Ryan R was a very good server. He kept our Diet Coke flowing! The food was freakin delicious, and came out pretty quick. Cyprus roll is where it’s at! Mariachi is good as well. Service was fast and wait wasn’t too long.

Short Ribs Bento is a must have! Delicious! Next time we're in SLC, we'll surely try the other bentos. Rolls were good too. We had the Imperial and the UFO. Unique presentation and tasty. Next time we'll try something not spicy. Ambiance is nice. We went during lunch as line was long for dinner. Would go again for lunch but maybe not dinner, as dinner would be a lot more expensive. A printed menu available for the more mature generations would be much appreciated and welcomed. Please consider printing some menus. We hope the Japanese maples survive the heat.

Delicious sushi and super friendly staff.

Super cool little sushi place. For AYCE the sushi is good. Our server Alisa was very helpful and kind. If we lived in SLC we would definitely be back.

We were really disappointed in the food during our visit this time. The service was also terrible. The waiter wasn't staying on top of our drinks and was forgetting to bring out things we asked for during our dinner. We will not be returning anytime soon.

A-MAZE. This is my go to celebration place. Short ribs and filet mignon are divine.

This is my favorite place for Japanese food here in the entire valley. And trust me, I've been to just about all of them! The sushi rolls here are the best that I have ever experienced. The entrees that I have tried have salad been fabulous. And the drinks here can blow you away.

The experience started out well. I went for lunch and was seated almost immediately. The QR code to order wasn’t working so wait staff eventually came and took my order. Service was also relatively quick but no one really checking back at our table to ensure we were ok. The yakisoba noodles with chicken were fine but did not live up to how they were described in other reviews. The Snow White sushi roll was very good and I requested eel sauce. The fried bananas definitely made up for it. Tasty! Not sure if I would go again but I am glad I went.

The food is really good, pretty standard pricing for the type of food it is. The service is hit or miss. The last two times that I’ve gone the service was pretty bad. Went there for dinner for my sister’s birthday and our server was rushed, spilled water and the miso soup on our table and didn’t acknowledge it. She forgot my drink and acted rude after I mentioned I was still waiting on it. Overall vibe was condescending and rude which is why I felt like I had to mention it in the review.

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Salt Lake! Incredible food, the fish is delicious and very fresh, and you couldn't ask for a more atmospheric place to have an excellent date.

Hi Sapa! We love your food and like to order for delivery or pickup. We have become extremely frustrated getting food that is not labeled at all. We have no idea what roll is what (each roll is labeled with the name of the person that ordered and multiple rolls are crammed into one tiny container) and we have no idea what sauce goes with what. This happens every time we order. At first we thought it was a mistake, but now we spend 30 minutes when we get the order trying to first figure out which roll is which and then trying to figure out which sauce goes with which roll. We have to go through the website and hope there’s a photo for each roll and try and decipher which is which and use the colors of the cause to dehire which sauce goes with which one. When I’m spending >$100 per order I shouldn’t have to spend an extra 30 minutes trying to figure this out, it’s ridiculous. Please fix this going forward so we can continue to order from you without the hesitation of having a chore after we order. We also tried to email you instead of place a review but the email listed keeps returning an error. Thanks! David

This was my second time visiting. This place is great for the food, ambiance, and staff! The building from the outside looks like an almost abandoned shed in the middle of nowhere state street. To my knowledge they don’t have their own parking lot so just find a legal place to park on the side of the road nearby. We had the short ribs, sunset roll, wok n roll, luscious lover roll, and a beef noodle dish. All phenomenal. The delicious meats are all tender and well seasoned. The rolls are fresh and very well prepared. The luscious lover is now my favorite roll ever as the strawberries just elevate the roll! (Pictured) This will be a frequent dining choice for my family’s birthdays, anniversaries, and events moving forward!

Stopped in for sushi and noodles. Got treated to live music from a very talented singer. The Maui Wowie was tasty. The sashimi tuna was also very nicely done and not just slabs of fish on a plate. We tried the spring rolls and dumplings too. I liked the dumplings. The spring rolls were good, but not paired with the sushi. Wife got the garlic noodles and felt underwhelmed. The beef in it was perfect. My mom got the drunken noodles with tofu and was surprised by the oil used. She didn’t like the slight fishy taste and sent it back, but I am pretty sure I would have liked it. Our server, Sara, was exemplary. Fast and friendly service. Very attentive. We will be back for sure. The atmosphere is wonderful. Nice design with lots of tables, with a nice intimate feel. We tried 3 desserts. Coconut mango panna cotta, fried bananas, and the new addition to the menu, Key Lime Cheesecake. Mom loves the fried bananas to the point of ecstasy. The panna cotta is a new favorite for me. Wife said the cheesecake was the best part or her meal, though the live music was the best part of the night for us all. Look forward to returning.

Amazing! The "high roller" sushi was spectacular!

Wow what an exceptional experience. Staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Service was FAST & food was out of this world. Try the spicy edamame and the kamikaze and the snow white.

We sat on the patio and it was so nice! Drinks here are always amazing. Forgot to get a pic of the food, but the rolls, calamari, and spicy edamame were also very good.

This is a hidden gem! First, I'm a sucker for a big menu. This menu does not disappoint ! Everything from the apps to the sushi and sashimi were very good. Japanese beer selection was good as well. Service was outstanding. I know we were a pain in ordering a couple of dishes at a time, but our server handled it with a smile! Great staff all around. Will be back.

We received the wrong rolls and the server argued with us that we didn't order what we know we ordered. They didn't attempt to make it right.

I was very excited to eat here. I have been to a lot of sushi restaurants around Utah, and can confirm that Sapa’s fish is of great quality. It tasted very fresh, I ordered a few sashimi dishes. It seemed they forgot my order, as my friends got all their dishes 30 minutes before mine. I asked after a while and they claimed the chef was behind on a pretty simple order. Waited a while again before I got my food. No apologies and they seemed to sweep it under the table, which I found very weird. The rest of the experience was not great. We barely were helped and it took another 20-30 minutes to order more food because they did not come to our table. And same situation with the check. It was strangely a neglectful service experience and I don’t think I’ll be coming back - it was unfortunate as this was a birthday gift. Try out Itto sushi instead :)

This was such a great find. Amazing setting you'd never expect to find right in the middle of downtown Salt Lake City! While the food was great, I was disappointed with the service. I ordered a diet coke that, after asking for again, never came to the table, and when the meal was finished and we waited for 20 plus minutes, I had to ask another server to bring the check. For a business lunch in the middle of the week- this was a letdown as clients don't usually have an extra 30 minutes to waste at lunchtime.

Did not eat there because I walked in to ask the hostess a question about parking and was treated so rudely that I ended up walking out of the restaurant. Drove down from Park City to try the place with my wife and after dealing with someone who treats customers like she did, I was shocked that the owner puts someone like that at the front door to great customers. She was impatient and accusitory with no basis for her threatening comments. Horrible experience!!

Sapa is phenomenal. The garlic noodles are one of the best things I've had at a restaurant. The pot stickers were a delight and the cocktails were perfect. The Sushi was quite good as well. I can find a single fault other then the long wait in a line outside in the hot sun but it was worth it.

Really great sushi! Allison recommended the Cyprus roll which was fantastic! Also ordered the Caterpillar roll which was also great. They run an all-you-can-eat special from 5:00-6:30PM.

I compare every sushi restaurant I've tried since to this place. It really felt like I'd left Utah and was getting world-class sushi in some other exotic location. I don't live nearby so it has been about two years since I've been, but I'd jump at a chance to go back.

They play around with flavors - absolutely delicious food! I recommend the garlic albacore roll and the sunset roll - so amazing!

Just go here. It's awesome. Sushi is always fresh. Sunset Roll is my favorite. Best Teriyaki chicken in Utah.

I love Sapa! It’s one of the best sushi places in SLC. The Mojo roll is my absolutely favorite.

We have been eating here for years and absolutely love it but tonight we were especially impressed. It was a busy Friday and it took a long time to get our order. When our waitress brought out the last roll she told us there would be no charge on all our appetizers...not only is the food great but so is their service!!!! We love Sapa!

I love the sushi here! My girlfriends and I went here on Monday night for happy hour with my two kids. We sat down the waiter took a while to get there she seemed more bothered to serve us than anything. When we asked about the all you can eat she said oh you should have said something at the beginning we can’t do it because you’ve already ordered your apps. She drummed her nails on the table when we were trying to figure out our order. She just wasn’t interested in serving our table. The food was great but Mack could’ve done better. 😢

Sapa’s has always been a favorite of mine, mostly for their sushi. This time I tried their Yellow Curry Chicken and it was delicious and a fair serving. I had enough to take home for seconds later.

This place is always amazing! I love their sushi. I highly recommend the tartare! There was only one time it was so busy we were waiting for our food for a while, but I enjoyed my friend’s company and think dining out shouldn’t be rushed(for the most part).

We went as part of a large group with several tables. Our table was served once and that was about it. Total neglect after that. I’m glad we weren’t paying!

Visiting SLC and wanted some sushi. Very friendly staff, Jake took good care of us. It has a nice atmosphere and also an outside patio. For the appetizer we ordered Firecracker Calamari (it was the best one we had so far in SLC) I ordered Tasmanian Devil roll and Volcano roll. Tasmanian Devil Roll was delicious compared to the Volcano roll…. If you want something fancy then get the Volcano, if you want something delicious try the Tasmanian Devil.. But everyone has their own opinions, my other two buddies I went with, both ordered Volcano rolls and liked them. Overall it was a great welcoming experience:)

This place is so cute! Definitely good for a nice dinner date. We had a little of everything and all was amazing! My favorite dish was the sashimi.

Full disclosure, I'm not really a sushi guy. But I always come here with someone who is, and they say the sushi is amazing. What I know is their pork dumplings and short ribs are something I look forward to. I'm not from Utah but I come in about once a year for work. And I make sure I hit this spot every single time because I like it that much. The first time I came, it was with hesitancy because I didn't do sushi. I tried some for the first time and didn't dislike it but I also ordered the two appetizers that I mentioned above and absolutely loved them. So full of flavor. Definitely check this place out, even if you don't consider yourself a sushi person.

I really like this restaurant. The food is great, the staff is courteous, and the dining area is really cool. There are several locations you can end up, but the courtyard is the coolest. It's a really relaxing site unlike other restaurants. The food is excellent. I've yet to order something I don't like. The sushi is really good. They do use Sriracha as a garnish; you've been warned. The prices have gone up over the last few years but who's haven't Definitely, try it out, you won't been disappointed

Hard to find good sushi in Utah. I grew up in So CAL where fresh sushi can be found in most cities...but this place is tip top. Exceptional quality...cool little place of State Street in SLC. Price is fair and I loved everything I had. Only downside is paying for parking here...but once you start eating you will forget about that quick. Give them a try...I have been to over a dozen sushi higher end restaurants in Utah...this place blows them all away.

I've come to Sapa a handful of times and never had a bad experience, even when they get really busy. We beat the rush today and everything seemed to be running at 110%. Awesome service, fantastic and quick food, and as always, a superb atmosphere. We got the Philadelphia roll, Dragon Balls, Maui Wowie, and drunken noodles, all of which were great!Sapa is an awesome sushi and drink restaurant, as well as having fantastic options for the non-sushi fans out there. Would recommend to any and everyone!

I have eaten here several times. The food is very good but if you go in the evening it is super crowded and VERY noisy! I wish the owner would do something to try to dampen the sound just a bit. The noise level is so high it is not a pleasant experience to eat there.

Great place for sushi and Asian food. The place is always almost full. It’s highly recommended if you r below 8 ppl to join their waitlist online and then walk into the restaurant otherwise u will end up waiting in line outside in cold as the line might be long. Nice place to hangout or go on for a date with ur partner. I loved their fried rice n drunken noodles too, full of flavour.

Every time I come into town for business, I always stop at Sapa at least once. The staff is very friendly, courteous and accommodating. The atmosphere is incredible. It’s a perfect blend of fine dining, yet casual. The bar typically always has seats available and that’s where I’d usually sit to avoid waiting for a table and just feel like bar seating is more personable, especially when traveling alone. The drinks are to die for (I suggest the spicy margarita - it’s off menu, but they will make it!) and the sushi…. All of it is incredible! Filet mignon for a starter was great and salmon nigiri was off the charts. Crazy to think such an incredible sushi spot exists in SLC of all places. If you’re a big fan of sushi/asian fusion, this place is a MUST go! Also, if you’re vegan or vegetarian, they have great options. Most places just have your typical “veggie” roll, but they have 6-8 different variations that would be pleasing to meat eaters alike!

I already love Sapa. Has the best food and the atmosphere is amazing, but this particular time we had a waiter that was hands down the best waiter we've EVER had and that's saying a lot. Bradley was so attentive, friendly, fun and even made our 2 kids (8 &10) feel important and made them laugh and smile. We do not know him but wanted to be friends :) He made our experience that much more enjoyable. Also the hostess was on it and very accurate with a quick wait time. Thanks Sapa for the amazing food and atmosphere and especially Bradley for the memorable experience. Hope to see him again!

Went for an early dinner. Excellent service, drinks and food. Forgot to take photo of dessert - tempura bananas with ice cream and chocolate syrup. So good!

Best sushi in SLC, hands down. Muscle shooters, dragon balls, and the chef special roll was amazing. I've been eating here for years. Oh, and try the roulette if you like to drink.

Absolutely ridiculous customer service. Canceled the order by their own after 1 hour. In house food is good, but really bad order processing (excuse was: ordered an item which is unavailable… Everybody who has been there knows this is not true)

This was the worst sushi experience we have ever had, and we've tried a lot of sushi!!!!! We tried a wide variety of rolls and entrees and all of them were disappointing and honestly sickening. I had high hopes for this place but did not like a single dish that we ordered. The service was also seriously lacking and the place was crowded and freezing cold because the door was open (in February). To make things even worse, we felt super sick afterwards and I actually got food poisoning and was puking all night 👍

This was so disappointing. We had high hopes because of all the reviews, but honestly this was the worst sushi experience I’ve ever had. I’m ok with expensive, but this place was pricey and slow plus the food was mediocre and came in small portions. Pretty sure I got food poisoning too which makes me suspect the freshness of their food. Not a fan of this restaurant, go somewhere else for sushi.

Went here for the first time on Valentine's and it's hands down the best sushi I've ever had. Haven't stopped thinking about it since. We arrived about 20 minutes before they reopened for dinner and were the second people in line. By the time we were leaving, it was a mad house of people waiting. Definitely will always make reservations (party of 8 required) or get there early. Would highly suggest: Spicy Edamame, Low Rider (MUST TRY), Sunset (MUST TRY), Kiss of Death, UFO, and Maui Wowi. I don't think you can go wrong though.

The atmosphere here is awesome for any occasion. The sushi is second to none! If everyone tried sushi at Sapa first, everyone would love sushi! I highly recommend this spot we go 2-4 times a year. And everytime we do i wonder it's not monthly. Tell everyone and enjoy!
