Good food- I really liked the “Haitian Caviar” appetizer. But for the price I expected a bit more. Also, I dislike the weird receipt format that includes automatic gratuity in the subtotal but then has two more sections on the receipt for “tip” and “additional tip”.

I went on date with my partner here. We are both people of color. It was clear to us that the owner and his staff (who are also people of color) are only attentive to the white patrons. Thus, your experience will largely hinge on the color of your skin. If you are white, you will likely have an excellent time as the owner and his staff will go out of their way to ensure you have a great experience, even providing you alcohol despite being a BYOB establishment (we witnessed). If you are a person of color, however, do not come. You will be made to feel as if you are an afterthought.

Our family visited SC recently, from the beginning, it was not welcoming, floor had water and dirty table clothes. As we approached the entrance we thought they were not opened yet. A gentleman came and looked confused, went to grab a lady, it was heard in the background saying “ we are too busy to bring people in now”. We waited a little bit since we drove from NYC to enjoy a wonderful Haitian cuisine. That same lady came forward and added that they are too busy to host us now, she is going to check if the kitchen will be able to even cook for us. ( like they were doing us a huge favor). We asked to talk to the manager/owner, same lady said he was busy and not present to talk to us. We noticed that same lady talking to other customers unprofessionally. This is unacceptable in this day and age. The manager was actually in the front entertainment other guests. We knew who the manager was. Not suee why she said he was not there. We thought that was enough of some bad treatment we decided to start driving back, all of a sudden, the manager walked to our vehicle to asked what had happened. After we explained to him, he begged us to come back in, we eventually did. Even after all, the food was very pricy, and very small portions, service was not good at all for the price. We hope the management learned from this review to make the necessary changes to better serve the community and its customers.

I’m wondering how I missed the negative reviews which I now 100% believe but I remembered I skipped reading the reviews when making my reservation since this is the 2nd time I’ve been to this restaurant. Although the food is good - the customer service from the owner today left a bad taste in my mouth. I made this reservation 3 weeks ago for Father’s Day and had no idea it was ONLY pre-fixe menu. Usually restaurants inform guests so they know what to expect so you can accommodate for children, vegetarians, people with allergies, or special needs. My brother wanted to bring home food for his sick wife and the waitress said no so I asked to speak with the owner. The owner called us “high maintenance“ and told me I need to “read the room” because it’s busy. He basically said the more time he talks to us, the more time is wasted. He was so rude, so I let him know it’s most likely because the entire restaurant is full and there’s only 1 waitress and a busboy, on a Holiday at that. He decided to berate me, as if I’m a child. Sir, I’ve visited restaurants around the entire world and this was the worst hospitality ever. After some pushback he agreed to let us take a pre-fixe meal home but we’d have to wait. When the bill came I tried to explain to the waitress the to-go order was not on the bill and she left (I assumed to ask the owner about it) and came back and said it wasn’t being made at all. Then the owner comes with the food, hands it to my brother and when I tried to tell him it wasn’t on the bill he said “Why are you in business you don’t belong again?” Actually, it’s my business because I’m the one paying the $600+ bill with already included 20% gratuity - which I only did not ask him to lower because the busboy was phenomenal. I think the owner spoke to me like that because I’m a woman. The waitress realized what I was trying to tell her before about the bill and brought me a separate check which wasted more time that I was trying to save her. Unbelievably rude customer service by the owner. The waitress and busboy were clearly overwhelmed but the waitress made sure to sing Happy Birthday to my brother which I appreciated. Another piece of advice from someone who frequents restaurants, put the description of the dish under the dish name for pre-fixe, especially if it’s not cooked in a traditional way for people who have never been to the restaurant and have never read the menu. Imagine my dad’s disappointment when he orders Lambi and it’s made as a ceviche. It would save time of people asking questions. I also wish they played Konpa music. I could see people around our table enjoyed the Happy Birthday song. I’m embarrassed I chose this place to bring my family, which is a shame because I love to support my fellow Haitians.

My family and I visited this restaurant with high hopes after it was recommended by locals. Unfortunately, our experience was not as pleasurable as we thought it would be. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by the owner who thanked us for coming out. Little did we know what was to come. As we were reviewing the menu for our orders, the owner and one of the servers brought out plates of soups and bread and we were informed that this was complimentary with each entree order. Since everyone in our party was not ordering an entree, some declined the soup. The owner said not to worry and gave soups to all 10 of us anyway. We said wow that was nice of him. When our server came to take our orders many of us ordered the Legume. My husband and I decided we would share the legume and order an extra side of rice. We decided to cancel the side order of rice (which was $15) and just order another entree since there was already a $12 sharing fee. It was at that moment our server asked "What are you going to eat the legume with?" We were all confused by this since legume is always accompanied by white rice and sos pwa (bean sauce). "So it doesn't come with any rice," we asked? "No", she said in an annoyed tone. I'm sorry but if I'm paying $29 for legume that doesn't even come with meat, I'm expecting rice to accompany it. No effort to explain was made. We were just simply met with the nonchalant answer of "that's how it is here". Oh and before anyone mentions a language barrier, all 10 of us present speak and read Haitian Creole fluently. We asked to speak with the owner/manager because things were just not making sense. After 10 to 15 minutes of waiting that same server came out. At that point, we asked to have our orders canceled and said that we would just pay for the soups. We almost passed out when we saw that our bill was $150 for soup and bread! As painful as it was, we paid our bill and thanked the server for her subpar service. As we were exiting, the owner was sitting outside with his legs crossed. "Oh, what happened" he asked like he didn't already know. When we tried to tell him the menu wasn't clear and that no mention of items being a la cart was found, he threw his hands up and turned away stating "SPARE ME". I was livid to the point I had to just walk away. As we left, we heard him calling out to the server "did they pay?" That right there told me all I needed to know. This man only cares about making money! Fellow foodies help me out. Am I tripping?! Owners/managers usually welcome feedback/critique so that they can improve their services. This particular gentleman however uses reviews as an opportunity to berate his customers when they share anything negative. I cannot wait for your reply so I can see how you insult my intelligence, appearance and class as you do for all who leave an undesirable review. As Haitians, our greatest strength is our pride. Oddly enough, it is also our greatest detriment and we wonder why there are so few Haitian owned businesses that are truly successful. As someone in the hospitality industry, you sure know how to make your guests feel valued. Some humility might do you some good. In your replies, you often compare your customers to the devil or call them evil but you seem to forget one key fact...God doesn't like ugly!

I recently visited Saveur Creole, a restaurant we used for catering back in 2019 with fantastic results. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of that initial experience. Price Concerns and Hidden Costs: The menu prices were surprisingly high, especially considering entrees didn't include sides. These were a la carte, which wasn't mentioned on the menu itself, leading to an unwelcome surprise. Inattentive Service: The service left a lot to be desired. The waitress lacked warmth and seemed inconvenienced by our presence. When we requested to speak with the owner to address our concerns, he refused. On our way out, we saw him outside drinking wine. We attempted to have a conversation with him, but were met with a dismissive "SPARE ME" response. This interaction, coupled with the online reviews where the owner seems to respond negatively to criticism, left a bad taste in our mouths. Overall: This experience was a stark contrast to the positive one we had in 2019. The high prices, lack of transparency about side dishes, and, most importantly, the disrespectful treatment from the owner made for a truly disappointing evening. There are many Haitian restaurants in New Jersey that offer delicious food and welcoming service. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a more enjoyable experience.

Hey I was in NJ with family and a friend invited us to stop at Sauveur creole for dinner. When we got there the place looks nice and clean but as a typical Haitian restaurant, customer service was very poor. We ordered appetizers and food, appetizers came for a few of us and the others had to wait for a few minutes to get theirs. While ordering our entrees it was surprising to learn that the meat will come w/o sides unless we separately pay for the rice and an additional $12 extra if share plates .At the beginning, the server was said that all entrees come with soup or bouillon, when we knew that we had to pay the side dishes then we decided to leave and paid for what we consumed . They charged us for the soup and even for the bread. The soup was not even a scoop but it came in a large bowl.I will advise everyone to stay away from this restaurant. We Haitians always ask for Haitians to support Haitian businesses, but this is not the way it should be done . Me personally consider this place as a scam for any customers. Do not go there! I want the owner to know this is America and in any other restaurant meat always accompanied by a side dish. We will not recommend any body to go there

The prices ONLINE need to match the physical menu at the restaurant! This place left me speechless in a bad way as well as leaving HUNGRY! The portions were sad and were more like appetizers than an entree. I can’t believe they are still in business with these practices. Lastly, the argumentative responses from the owner is heartbreaking to say the least as he takes no responsibility for the same things most are saying about this place! Want Haitian food? Go to the many ones who offer real portions that can feed two/three people for about $25-$30 not appetizer sized “meals “ for over $100! Y’all have got to do better!!!!

I’ve got to say, I really really wanted to like this place and I hoped the reviews that I read were wrong. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Some food was okay, some food was good, some food was terrible. How do you make gumbo tasteless??? The prices are laughable for the portions and the quality. I mean they are literally charging $15 for rice! And while the owner and/or manager seemed friendly, our actual server seemed annoyed that she even had to deal with us. Especially when we questioned if certain items would incur extra costs. If you’re reading this and are on the fence about going, by all means, go experience this place for yourself. But I for one wish I would’ve heeded the prior reviews and will not be returning anytime soon .

The food was okay not good for the price! This restaurant is very expensive for the type of food they sell. Red Snapper will cost you 60.00 and does not include a side of rice if you want rice with it, it will cost you an extra 12.00 and that’s with any entree you get. They Griot with fried plantain will cost you 32.00 which is insane. Also, they do not ask you if you want soup as a starter the assume you are going to order from their dinner menu bring you the soup without you consenting to it. I wanted to order a salad which was going to cost $27.00 and the lady told me if I order the salad she would charge me 15.00 for the soup, I told her I did not tell her I wanted soup she just brought it out. I did not eat from the soup and told her if she wanted to take it back n she told me no. They add a 20% tip to your bill but on the menu it says 18% automatically no matter the group size but 20% if it’s 6 or more and we were only 4. We ordered an appetizer griot with fried plantains $19.00 and it was just 2 pieces of fried plantains and 2 pieces of griot. They are super expensive for the food they sell and the food is not great. Last time I will be eating here I do not recommend it if you want to have good affordable Haitian food you will not find it here. The serve is not that great. It seems like they want to make their days worth with one family. I do not recommend it.

I called Saveur Créole on Saturday, April 1, 2023 during normal business hours (5:00–10:00 PM EST), to inquire about hosting a Bridal Shower. Ron Mompoint, Host & Proprietor answered my call. Mr. Mompoint informed me that July 1st was available to promise. Mr. Mompoint requested my phone number (which I provided) and he committed to returning my call. Following Church services on Sunday, April 2nd, my wife and decided to stop by the restaurant since we live nearby. Mr. Mompoint greeted us. I identified myself as the individual inquiring about the Bridal Shower. Mr. Mompoint said, “yes, welcome.” With permission from Mr. Mompoint, my wife and I glanced at the space. Immediately, I observed that the pictures of art that appeared on the images online were not on the walls. According to Mr. Mompoint, he sold them (which I considered to be unusual). Mr. Mompoint said that he was in the process of acquiring new art work (which he expected within two (2) weeks). My wife and I thanked Mr. Mompoint, who maintained that he would call us that evening. Mr. Mompoint never returned 0ur call. On Mon, Apr 3, 2:38 PM (7 days ago), I sent Mr. Mompoint an email thanking him for taking the time out of his schedule to speak with us albeit for five (5) minutes. I expressed continued interest in hosting the Bridal Shower, and I reiterated looking forward to discussing our options. To date, Monday, April 10, 2023, Mr. Mompoint neither acknowledged nor responded to my email. Mindful that things happen, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this establishment therefore. I found the actions or inactions of Mr. Mompoint to be rude and unprofessional to say the least (as I must maintain decorum). A business whose owner demonstrates such blatant disregard for potential client with high expectations MUST BE AVOIDED. Status update: Potential client Reply to Business Owner To the contrary, it is YOU who are toxic Mr. Mompoint! I thank God for exposing you for who you really are. You are correct about one thing – The reader(s) will see though your nonsense. To be clear, I never used derogatory terms to describe you or your restaurant. In fact, it is YOU who characterized me as “deranged” and “misaligned.” I would submit that you are projecting! For the benefit of the readers, I am a Christian. There is not one mean spirit in me; it is Christ instead my friend! In returning to the objective facts, I provided you seven (7) days to either call me on my cell phone (which I provided), or respond to my email; this is what I reported on without attacking you with disgusting language, as you did, but again, the readers will see this and draw their own conclusions. You displayed no humility at all! This is very telling of your personal character. A man of honor and integrity would NEVER reply to a potential client as you did; instead, he or she would have apologized and encouraged me to call you directly, to aim to resolve the matter. Ending your unprofessional comments with saying, “you are cancelled” further demonstrates your lack of maturity and child–like manners. I could NOT imagine that anyone reading this exchange would agree that you handled yourself with the dignity, respect and professionalism that is expected of a business owner. Just maybe this is acceptable behavior in Haiti, but not here in the United States of America!

So I've been here twice now, once in 2020 and once in 2023 with the same result. The service takes far too long, it took 90 minutes to get served which is just too long. The food itself is good, not great but good. What makes this bad is that the cost for what you get simply doesn't match up, the food is significantly overpriced for what you get. There are also several fees that are miscommunicated on their website and even in the menu. An automatic 20% gratuity is added to your bill regardless of the size of your party. Some places do this and it's clearly noted and thats fine, the website doesn't mention this and the menu in the restaurant states only 18%. There is a fee for additional bread, which, given how long you'll be waiting for the food, you will be paying. The owner seems nice enough and I think he's trying his best but there are a few things that are simply not clicking here. I hope things change and turn around as I want to see this place succeed but as of right now I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone eat here as there are too many better options particularly at this price point. Edit to address the response here: 1. Still a strange policy 2. I didn't bring any alcohol as I can't drink. 3. I want the restaurant to succeed so I ordered regardless of the price, and stayed to give your restaurant the opportunity to do better and the business. I watched as a few other tables came in, opened the menu, and then left. Or waited for 30 minutes while being ignored and left. Or waited and made a fuss and then left. I stayed to give you the opportunity to show me better and you didn't and your response here is evident of that. This is my first ever review for your restaurant and that is just factually incorrect as that wasn't me. I want you to do well so I hope you can take this post as a learning lesson and not as someone being against you.

The restaurant has a nice aura and it is detailed with beautiful art pieces. The customer service was great. The food was amazing, I came with a party of 3 and we finished everything. The soup we were started with was so good and filling. We ordered the passion fruit juice, créole chicken and shrimp, macaroni au gratin and the trini chicken with the diri kole a pwa. I will be coming back to try a different dish. I highly recommend the restaurant a try

Was craving haitian cuisine so stopped here for dinner. Service took a bit of time and wasn't to attentive/messed up our order. But food was delicious. We got the empanadas and conch to start. We tried the chicken, Crab and was suppose to get fish but they gave us beef instead (I don't eat red meat :/) but the chicken and crab was good. For mains we got the haiti cheri which was flavorful and the creole fried chicken.

Phenomenal. This food is absolutely delicious. The owner of the restaurant checked on our table throughout our entire night as did the wait staff. Incredibly accommodating for reservation times. The owner recommended food and soup to pair which were so spot on it was incredible. One of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time.

AMAZING! We've been there to many times to count. The best Haitian cuisine hands down! Highest quality of ingredients, mouth watering, authentic dishes. The owner is passionate and takes great pride to ensure we have a phenomenal experience each time. The staff is exceptional and very accommodating to our small family. We feel at home and are excited each time we dine at Saveur Creole. Dined at Saveur Creole again last evening with my family. Griot and lalo were amazing. The owner and staff delivered great hospitality. Great ambiance and easy parking.

The owner is nice but the waitress is very rude. It is way Overpriced for the amount of food that you get. I looked at the menu and was shocked to see $63 for a red snapper meal. $32 for griot only comes with fried plantains, rice is extra. Legume is served with no meat. Please update the prices online.

The owner Ron, and his staff was amazing. I celebrated my daughters 14th birthday June 26th, it’s a beautiful place, he played music for her, the ambiance was unmatched, good energy. I want to say thank you to Ron & staff, my daughter is blind (she can only see light, shadows & certain colors) and she is on the spectrum of autism, they were patient, friendly. The staff came out and sung happy birthday to my daughter and danced. It was a great experience. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS!!! I can’t wait to return, it was worth driving from ocean county to Montclair.

Food was mediocre. My mothers “well done” steak took way too long to be served. It was too much red on the inside to take almost 45 minutes to cook. And to top it off, you included 20% tip on the total bill for a party of 2. I love to tip but it just felt a little odd for y’all to do that. However, the soup was amazing !

I heard mixed signals about this place. So my girls and I still wanted to try it out. Waitress was somewhat rude but Haitian women come across aggressively so we brushed it off. We got our food bouillon to start off it was alright. Some cons were : for the fried chicken meal you aren able to substitute the collards for another side. None of the entrees come with sides you are paying extra. Water you have choice of still or sparkling regardless it was $8 for the bottled water for the table. On the menu we seen 18% was added which was fine when we got the bill 20% was added which only was supposed to be for parties of 6 or more. The waitress was clueless and try to debate that it’s on the menu and I express so is 18%. It was close to closing and I didn’t want to hold up any longer I paid but I will not be going back. Honestly think they should of honored and adjusted the bill but because she was the only one working she didn’t even try to accommodate. I called today and both lines were busy. Trust and believe I will express this to anyone who mention this establishment.

The food was pretty good but a bit over priced considering the service we received . We were honestly better off taking our food to go. I believe the owner took our order when we arrived. We ordered appetizers and asked for a moment to review the entrées. This guy demanded that we order every thing at once because he didn’t want any “confusion” in the kitchen. Clearly he didn’t think his kitchen staff was competent enough to get our orders right. Not to mention it was early and barely anyone in the place. We had a basket of bread with no plates at our table. Guess they expected us to use our napkins…. Our appetizers arrived and we were missing a order. I asked our waiter about it and his response was we seemed indecisive about our order so he thought we didn’t want it… I legit thought I was being pranked or something. The other servers there weren’t to friendly. They were a bit snappy whenever we asked for something, as though we were a inconvenience. Our food came out and it was pretty good. I am not even going to lie about how the food tasted. After our meal the owner brought out the check. Didn’t even offer us desert which is my wife’s favorite part. My wife ordered a crème brûlée and a coffee with crème/sugar on the side. No one else ordered desert. Simple right??? NEGATIVE. They managed to mess that up too. The crème brûlée arrived first and it wasn’t good. Then the coffee came with no crème or sugar. We asked a waitress for crème and sugar. The lady snapped at us and gave us slight attitude as she said “it’s coming!” As if we were bothering her. A while goes by and another waiter brings out condensed milk instead of crème -__-. Of coarse the sugar still hasn’t come out. Like what is so hard about bringing out coffee, crème and sugar at the same time. At this point I just wanted to leave. I eventually get the check and noticed that the 100 deposit I have gave to make the reservation was not applied. The owner advised that I was late so they were taking it as a inconvenience charge. That’s the craziest thing I ever heard. He ultimately applied it. To be honest I think that deposit is a way to scam you out of extra money. So if you make a reservation I advise you show up extra early and hope they are actually ready to seat you. I never write reviews but the service I received was so outrageous that I just had too. I’ve never experienced service like that before. The sad thing is the food is actually good. I won’t be returning. If your in the area I suggest you do take out. Hopefully they don’t mess that up. Judging by the owner’s responses on here let’s see what unprofessional response I get. Maybe he’ll call me a “culinary Karen” as well and make up something to save face. Smh horrible.

My entree was great but the service was poor therefore i wont be returning. We were rushed to order our apps and entrees at the same time and it wasnt even crowded. The appetizers came out incorrect and we were told it was because we were indecisive when we ordered them. At the end we werent even asked about dessert. The creme brûlée was burnt on top and the inside tasted like pudding, so save your $12 on that one. I didnt even bother asking for a refund because i knew it would be a battle. Gratuity is already included in the tab so no one really goes above and beyond for service here. Edit: to respond to managements reply- Yes we did have a reservation and even if we didn’t how does that justify the poor service we received. Terrible restaurant and ownership! You should be ashamed of yourself.

I have been wanting to try this place for over a year and finally decided to give it a try tonight. I’m dining alone and didn’t feel like leaving home, so I ordered via UberEats. I decided to go with the Griot figuring that would be a safe dish. Chileeeee, it’s not safe! It’s out of the box delicious. My food was packaged nicely; it was a compartmentalized container, largest side had the fried plantain topped with the griot, pickliz in a smaller side and some mixed vegetables. There was also another huge container filled with black rice. Everything was spiced beautifully, griot was tender and crispy at the same time, and that pickliz is super spicy. There’s also a small container of sauce which I poured all over everything! The rice was amazing. It is so much rice that I’m going to have to make another main to serve with it for dinner tomorrow. The portion is truly enough for me to eat from it like 3 times. The only small issue I had was the excessive amount of fat on the meat. There was plenty to eat though, so I could honestly toss the fat and still have enough for 3 separate meals. I’m so glad I ordered tonight and can’t wait to actually dine in soon. I was overall very impressed!

Amazing food! I only wish I could afford to come eat here everyday! Beautifully decorated inside! The owner Ron was very friendly. He chatted with us for a little. Service was on point! Plates were cleared as soon as we were done. I've been looking for a Haitian restaurant for sometime. Most are too far or just take out places. So when we drove by accidentally. We had to come back and try the food. Did not disappoint! Everything was delicious. Beef Legume was delicious. Goat Stew was good, hubby loved it, I'm not a fan of goat though. Montego Bay Beef was excellent. Griot Mi Casa was perfect, not too greasy but nice and crispy. The Mambo Gumbo was SPICY! Be warned ⚠️ 🤣 Bouillion Créole was perfect. Black rice was good but too much cloves for my taste. Passion Fruit Mango was yummy. Lemonade was refreshing.
