The best place we ate at on our whole trip. Excellent food and excellent weight staff. We had the wood fired flatbread, and my husband had the smoked king salmon, and I had the filet mignon and they were all absolutely top-notch.

Absolutely loved the experience! Can't say enough about the wait staff and the cooks. Food was outstanding and delicious.

Great place, really somewhere to try

We tried this spot for the first time on a date night. We were seated a little early for our 5pm reservation, in a nice booth on the bar side. Our server, Gina, was so wonderful and helpful in accommodating my need for soft foods due to poorly-timed dental work. She even requested the kitchen to “over cook” my pasta. Our meals were flavorful, the atmosphere was relaxing, and all the staff were quite friendly. We will definitely be back again!

Having a catch up fest over some pino noir and snacks was restful and cozy at this place.

The food is always exceptional. The service is attentive and helpful, yet never overbearing. The wine list is well curated for any enophile. Oh, yes, there is a good beer selection as well. Casual or fancy, this restaurant is one of Anchorage's deserving favorites! Not to be missed.

The food never ceases to amaze me. We sat at the bar before we went to our reserved dinner table the the bar tender gave us plenty of options and recommendations. Friendly guy. The server was very polite and friendly.

A wonderful dinner and the first time my husband and I have dined here. Our meal was outstanding I had scallops and my husband had cod. The waitstaff was professional, attentive and welcoming. Highly recommend to anyone.

The pork schnitzel is the restaurant's signature dish according to the server I had. It was a very good portion size, with nice accompaniments like multiple sauces. Nice drink and dessert options. Ambiance is excellent, it looks sophisticated inside. I would go again to dine at Southside Bistro

Roads were bad out to Girdwood for Double Musky, so we decided to eat out in town. I called Southside Bistro before we headed over to see if they did walk ins at all. They said they did. When we got there it took a bit to actually be greeted, we were asked by another worker if we had been helped yet before the hostess even acknowledged us. This was our 1st time here. We were told wait was about 40min for a table or could wait for the bar. After waiting about 10min a server at the bar asked us if we knew and wanted to sit at an open table in the bar area. We had no idea there was more than just the bar seats as an option. Calamari overall was great, clam chowder I wouldn't order again(flavor was not there), my rockfish with mushrooms on top was amazing(rice with it was meh though), the filet mignon was delicious (veggies and presentation was sad). For main dishes the sides seem as an after thought. Server was very nice, just slow and didn't refill drinks more than once. I had to ask for boxes and check. Dessert we did to go was just decent, sauce and whip cream were not matching for flavor. For how much we paid I expected better overall.

Had an awesome dinner with our two kids at home from college. Food was great, service was top notch and evening was wonderful.

Every time my friends and I have dinner at Southside Bistro we have a lovely time. The food is great and the wait staff is always beyond accommodating. We also enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Easily one of the best restaurants in Anchorage. A hidden gem. The freshest oysters I've ever seen in alaska. Perfectly cooked steak. Meal was phenomenal.

With Jens Nannestad as the chef, I will miss the chance to eat a meal here. Champagne was served promptly and the specials are worthwhile. Happy hour is simply relaxing to enjoy. Keeping this place as my go-to!

Perfect restaurant for a quiet date at the small tables for two in front of the fireplace in the smaller bar dining room and also great for larger business meetings of birthday parties for larger parties in the main dining room. Great food and service with a reasonably priced high quality wine list!

Loved coming back after a few years away. It’s always been a staple for us! We miss lunch however :)

I noticed one of the specials was meatloaf and never having seen meatloaf on the menu at Southside I decided to give it a try - great decision. It was without a doubt the best meatloaf I ever had in so many ways: taste, texture and presentation. My companion’s king salmon was also very tasty and artfully presented. The night was made even better by the excellent service provided by the server, Linda.

Food allergies are not to be taken lightly and when not taken with an ounce of caution it can be dangerous. Train inform and correct the issues of the lack of communication on allergies and also in the description of all foods to include the garnish and any toppings that are included as part of preparations of each menu item. This was done poorly on the part of the menu description and on the communication to the kitchen staff.

From the moment we walked in, I didn’t know it at the time but the owner welcomed us with a warm “welcome!” That felt so genuine and the entire experience proceeded in the same manner. Incredible food, the 8 oz filet was good perfectly medium rare and the mashed potatoes were amazing. Definitely looking forward to my next visit!

Our waitstaff was kind. The atmosphere was quiet and we were able to hold conversations very easily. The chairs are sturdy and comfortable. The food was bland. I got the chevre salad with scallops- three scallops for $14. My partner got the schnitzel. We shared clams and a soup that tasted like watered down mashed potato flakes + apple pie. It wasn't unpleasant, but not a rich dining experience. There are more delicious ways to spend $100.

This place just keeps getting better and better. I’d say at this point my husband and I are regulars. They always have something new and creative on their daily specials menu. Service is always top notch.

Everything was wonderful. Love, love, love Southside Bistro. Food and service are always amazing. I just suggest that maybe in the next couple of years, the wall decor gets a little updated. But the decor is not as important as the food and service, which are wonderful!!

Wonderful restaurant with amazing staff, excellent food and service was superb. The only suggestion I would have was the music was too loud and did not fit the ambiance of the restaurant. Otherwise it was a perfect experience!

Excellent place for a birthday dinner. The food was very good especially the soup of the day and the pasta dishes were very tasty. I am having the left overs for lunch today! Entrees were a bit slow coming to the table. Two weeks ago we had the some experience. However with the bread, wine and appetizers there was enough on the table to compensate for the wait.

My husband and I just enjoyed a delicious & special 15 year anniversary dinner of our first date at the restaurant we met at! Our server, Linda, was so sweet and thoughtful, making sure we loved our food & drinks. Our meals were so delicious!! We ordered crispy Brussel sprouts with pomegranate seeds, rabbit cacciatore over homemade pasta and Kodiak scallops in a yummy brown butter sauce over sweet corn polenta. Linda brought us a special anniversary dessert of chocolate decadence cake with a scoop of pumpkin praline ice cream with a pink & blue candle on a lovely decorated plate! The owner, Jens, also stopped by to make sure we were happy along with other diners. I’ve always loved the warm, inviting ambience of this great neighborhood bistro and glad to see it still feels the same.

Consistently one of my favorite places to eat in Anchorage. I’ve never had a bad meal there. Long-term staff, amazing food, great ambience…usually eat there every couple of weeks. Wonderful south Anchorage gem!

The wine list offered many options from single glass to half bottles. The soup of the day was excellent. The entrees would very good. However it took a while for them to arrive. Fortunately we had our soup and salad.

Nice ambience, bordering between casual and more elegant. They have tables and booths. Food was excellent, but wine was corked. They did bring another glass without question.

One of the best restaurants in Anchorage! Cozy, romantic vibes with attentive service and excellent food! I had the veal tenderloin medallions with melted brie and lingonberry preserves and it was phenomenal! The peach and raspberry cobbler with ice cream was divine.

This was our first time coming to the Southside Bistro. The restaurant lived up to it’s reputation and did not disappoint. We received the best service so far in all of Alaska and it will be hard to beat. The food, wine and dessert was outstanding. Last but not least the orderliness and cleanliness was amazing. We look forward to returning!

There are no bad choices on the menu here. I rarely order filet mignon, but it was my hunch that the chefs would prepare it beautifully, which they did. Peach cobbler for dessert is my favorite.

Southside Bistro has always been among the finest restaurants in Anchorage, certainly the best in South Anchorage. The food is always high quality and the service impeccable. We celebrate our anniversary there with friends who share a similar date but return as often as we can.

We've had this restaurant on our list for a while and finally made time to go this evening. The outside is unassuming but cozy and relaxed inside. The food was presented beautifully and reasonably priced by Anchorage standards. Neither of us were blown away by our meals. The pappardelle was decent and well portioned. While the scallops were good, the rest of the dish was rather bland. Ordered the deviled eggs, which were oversalted. Creme brulee was beautiful and very good. Wish we had enjoyed the main dishes more than we did.

Thanks to our Michigan friend's' recommendation, we had a fabulous experience at S. Side Bistro; taking Anchorage friends for their 2nd time. Highly enjoyable corner booth, offered views of a very efficient staff & other diners! We'd return in a heartbeat!

The Bistro had a great menu with lots of choices. I ordered the grilled salmon and was very happy with my choice. It was excellent! I also had the fruit compote for dessert. It was a wonderful way to end the meal! The staff was very friendly and clearly this is a favorite of those who live in the neighborhood as they were greeted by name. I would definitely return if I was in the area.

Fantastic little gem in Southside Anchorage. Great place for a romantic night out or dinner with friends. The food was excellent and in my opinion it wasn’t expensive for the style of restaurant. We have been 2 times and both times I was impressed.

Have been going to Southside Bistro for years. Excellent food and service. Always creative specials add the the wonderful variety of items on the menu.

Katie was our server and she was great. The best part of the meal was the dessert, Creme Brulee and our salads especially my Caesar, which was very good. My steak order was for medium well but it was closer to medium, a little too much pink for me. My wife ordered the scallops risotto cake appetizer as her entree, while good the portion of scallops was less than before with 3 as opposed to 4 from 6 months ago and down from 6 from this time 2 years ago yet the price increased. All of us have suffered due to inflation but feel this was a bit much.

It was a very pleasant evening and our waitress was the best . The food was perfect as well as the dessert was killer. we love this place.

We have dined in most of the Anchorage restaurants. This one is NOT good. Halibut tasted like cod. Definitely not as good as other restaurants in Anchorage. Service was lackluster, and waitress very rude. Would NOT recommend. We will not be going there again.

It’s such a local place with superb food and service. I come from at least an hour away, but always feel welcome. I’ve been coming here for years not as often as I’d like to because of the distance. If I lived near SS Bistro. I’d be there once a week.

Great food and a professional wait staff. They have an extensive and far reaching wine list too. What is not to love?

This was a very lovely dinner. The atmosphere and ambience was peaceful and quiet. My husband is hard of hearing, so it was nice to not have him not included in the conversation. All of the food was fabulous, the king, salmon and hell of it in particular. The blue cheese custard was very unusual, but delicious. The dessert menu also had rockstar items. I would recommend this place highly.

We are regulars there, and it’s our favorite Anchorage restaurant. Staff are long-timers who know their customers & are friendly and knowledgeable. Will go again (soon).

Our waiter was appropriately engaging and helpful. The special house burger I ordered was cooked to my request but was a bit bland in flavor. My wife loved her pizza. Overall we had a delightful time.
