It was a nice sushi place we even had before. Today our family trying to get the conveyor belt sushi at lunch, we really want to try, but when we came the door was closed. We was there at 12:15pm today is Wednesday. We checked the business hours at google. We was wondering to know, is this restaurant already closed? If so, that was so sad!

Loved this place so much, I would go usually every other week with friends and family, I drove there today with a friend to find that it was empty and gutted out, I thought this place got good business, so sad to see it gone it was definitely one of my favorite places to eat

Advertising conveyor belt sushi, but apparently it's only on select days and select times. Drove an hour and half to find out there is no conveyor belt sushi today, for some reason. Can't get an actual clear answer. Completely disappointed. We've been looking for a place with conveyor belt sushi for a long time now. I guess the hunt continues.

Always loved sumo! Definitely was always a favorite but it has been a about a year since I've been. I tried to get the same thing as always. It was wrong as is they don't have it or changed the name and in that I had to wait outside with my two kids, crying, waiting on order to be fixed and instead of giving the roll they mess up they throw it away and give no discount or anything after speaking with gm!!! Uhm okay! Very disappointed! Sushi lover but will definitely never have my business again. Fancy q all the way

Delicious sushi and great service! I love the scallop roll. Yummy! Update May 2023: many things have changed here at Sumo since their renovation, but the quality of the sushi remains. A new, exciting feature is the addition of a conveyor belt that wraps around the sushi bar, allowing you to select rolls as they pass, and pay based on the color of the plate. They have also added an unlimited sushi lunch option for $19.99, which is very impressive and delicious! We will definitely be back many times!

Aside from the delicious food and the cleanliness of this restaurant, the service has always been 10/10. Ask for Johnny!

Best sushi place I've found in Lakeland. Easily comparable to great restaurants in Tampa and Orlando for the quality and presentation of the food. Try to go two or three times a month at least.

Aside from great sushi at reasonable prices, it's the only place in Lakeland that I know of that has a conveyor running small sushi plates around to all the tables. It's a little small inside, but it's great quality.

This was a really nice experience. The conveyor belt sushi was fun, and the sushi was really yummy. I recommend the French Kiss Roll. Also, the server was really nice and made sure we got everything we needed. We will be back 😊

This is Lakeland's only conveyor belt sushi spot. They recently started serving an all you can eat sushi option three days a week. The day I went it featured all of their signature rolls. I loved this place prior to it adding all the tech because it felt approachable and featured great sushi. The tech makes it unique and it still has great sushi.

Really cozy out of the way Japanese sushi bar. Kind of an interesting find for Lakeland! Servers were very polite and sushi was tasty.

I travel to Lakeland regularly, I’ve tried a bunch of places and this is the best sushi you will find here. I really enjoyed it and will return. Edit. Still the best almost a year later.

Best sushi around! We gladly drive past Brandon and Tampa sushi places to come here. The General and his staff are so friendly and the food is amazing! I love the electronic ordering menu as you can see what you are ordering. Or you can grab a sample from the conveyor belt. This place turned me into a sushi eater. I’ve tried others but they just don’t compare.

Was visiting family from out of town. Aunt and a mutual friend and I wanted sushi. I had the rainbow roll and a California roll. Although they are similar in style and taste. Food was prepared well and tasted great. We also had a chef's choice plate for the table which gives you a sample of different sushi pieces. Including shrimp and 3 types of tuna. Pricing was surprisingly reasonable for the quality of the sushi. Server was friendly and attentive. If you like sushi or fish in general. Give them a try. It's worth it.

Family of vegetarians here and we love this place! Staff is always friendly and chill, veggies in the sushi are never brown, and let's not forget the Japanese beer and Sake!

We have been coming here for years. This place went down hill after the renovation. We tried to come in tonight and waited for at least 10 min without any greeting. We walked out. Back when general was there he would greet everyone as they walked in the door and you would be seated within a minute. Unfortunately the sushi preparation is also subpar since the owner has no hand in that. Won’t go back anymore. All the best.

No one greeted me. Sat my myself and placed my order on a pad located at table. 14 minutes later a waitress showed up with drink and salad. Sushi rolls were okay nothing great. It took just as long to get my bill. And of course no one acknowledged me on the way out. Would not recommend to anyone.

I would not recommend this place I called at 9:20pm today. I told them I wanted to place an order for pickup! Mind you their website shows it doesn’t close to 10pm. A lady answered and told me they stop taking pick up orders at 9:30pm and it was 9:22pm. I literally live 2 mins down the road. She asked the guy in the background and he said last call was at 9:30pm. Mind you it was 9:22pm when I called I work for Publix Corporate! And we do not treat customer as such especially when your website shows 10pm! im very disappointed because I heard really good reviews unfortunately I will not recommend no one here I even asked if I can come in and place the order they told me no definitely would never recommend!

Best sushi in town!!! Super fresh, always friendly service. And now they have the conveyor belt so you can try lots of yummy items. Love this place. I've been to most of the sushi places in Lakeland and this is by my favorite!

The conveyer belt is super cool but the sushi can be not as fresh as ordering a whole roll. My daughter tried the Katsu chicken and loved it. Will be back!

One of my favorite sushi and Japanese restaurants ever! It’s a small place, not a chain and they deliver the most delicious cuisine. From the clear soup to the sushi one never had anything bad. One last thought, there is a review on this page stating the customer was mad because they came in 11 minutes before they closed and were told they could get take out but not dine in because they close at 8:30. You don’t go to a sit down restaurant that takes time to prepare your food and expect them to stay open for you because you think they should stay open just for you. Restaurants close at a certain time just like other jobs. How would you like it if a person came in right before you closed, and what they needed would take an hour to do. Why not just get to the restaurant an hour earlier, or understand and get takeout? But instead, you post a review that shows how entitled you really are…

If you haven't been to this sushi place you have to. This place did not disappoint and was very surprised by the sweet technology this place had, waitresses and staff were wonderfully friendly.

The food was delicious! The tablet you order food on was a little bit of a pain but all in all good place for sushi little pricey.

My family wishes we had visited this place sooner! My mother loves Hwe Dup Bap, a Korean rice dish with sushi and vegetables which includes sesame oil and Cho gochujang to mixed together. She loved it! I ordered donkatsu and rolls, as well as trying some of the rolls that went around the belt. The price is reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the interior is nicely done. This place would be my go to place for sushi!

Best sushi hands down I’ve ever had. The frushi roll needs its own hour long documentary. The avocado bomb is something mentioned. Beautiful presentation. If your in Lakeland stop by!

Horrible customer service. We are somewhat regulars, about once a month, and we came into the restaurant at 8:19, and they have posted hours to close at 8:30. There were several customers in the place and we were told that the owners called last call already, so we couldn’t place an order, unless it was for takeout. As if I were suppose to hear this “last call” riding in my car in route and know they were closing before their posted close time! Owner standing there and hearing everything and said nothing! Don’t post your hours as one thing, then change them “cause you want to close early!” That’s NOT how you treat customers, especially regulars. I will be taking my sushi business elsewhere, cause it’s obvious the owner doesn’t care for my business.

Good service. Good food. And a lot faster than other sushi places I've gone too.

2.5 hours here. Still no check. Food took forever to come out. One guest got no food. Mine was cold. Disorganized, understaffed and very overpriced. Go elsewhere.

Even though we were told a 15+ min wait time it didn't seem like that at all. Only two people working during a lunch rush and they absolutely did amazing!!! The sushi tasted so fresh and the rolls were just beautiful. Definitely work hard at trying to make sure their customer is taken care of and the fastest I have seen anyone make sushi for multiple tables.

One and done, I had sushi that was mediocre at best, my wife had the chicken teriyaki that was dry and salty. Nice people but they need to step up their game on quality

Staff were nice and friendly. They seem to have enough knowledge about menu items. Their Avocado bomb with salmon is highly recommended. They also have that in Tuna as well. Only reason I am giving 4 star because we had to ask for spicy mayo several times to waitresses and finally I had to walk up to the counter and ask for it. Overall not bad. Food is little bit expensive for its surroundings.

Ok I had good time. The sushi were great tasting. I do recommend the avocado bomb they had the night I was there. It may be a seasonal or limited time item but please ask them if they can make one for you. All the sushi you see in my pics are great tasting. And the salmon we had with my dear friend and cousin. So, go next weekend to weekdays whenever you want. And have yourselves a great time guys.

This place is absolutely delicious! The people are friendly and attentive and the sushi is really high quality. The prices are great too! Plus, the atmosphere is really relaxed and is a place you could be in for hours.

Sushi was good, really good. Salad and soup also good. The floor was sticky and dirty that's why I have it a 3. My feet stuck to the floor as I walked to my table.

Refuse to order at a place that can't be bothered to list prices on their menu. It's a ridiculous business practice, especially from a low tier sushi restaurant in Florida.

I lived in Japan for 2 years, and this is very close to the level of quality of sushi. I mentioned this to the sushi chef, who was appreciative of the feedback, the misogyny soup was saltier than I've ever had, though still good, just didn't fit the traditional style of the recipes. Great service, clean, and the sushi chefs were very friendly.
