Don't order the soft shell crab. You only taste the breaded stuff.

Food was awesome,sushi was delicious and the staff was awesome 😘

For lunch we opted for the two special rolls lunch offer. For a starter we had the veggie dumplings, crispy and flavorful! The salad and mushroom soup were better than most! We had the ahi tuna roll, green hulk roll, New York roll and pink salmon roll. We loved the flavors and large portions. Definitely worth a visit for good sushi ! Will be coming back!

Delicous food. Service is impeccable. Sushi is delightful. Drinks are tasty. Have been going here since it's opened. Hasn't changed one bit

I had the New York Roll and it was probably the best sushi I've had since I moved to Connecticut last year. Still doesn't beat the sushi from back home, but the best I've had so far. Can recommend.

Never coming back again. I have been extremely discriminated against by a new employee!!!! I went to pick up my order and she thought I was trying to steal my own order that I already paid for. She hesitated to give me my order and was very rude to me with the way she demanded that I prove to her that it was my order. I gave her my name and phone number and she still gave me an issue. I never had this issue with any other employee. I will not be returning as a loyal customer!

Great selection of sushi and very quick and courteous service even with phone-in orders. I've dined in multiple times and placed several take away orders. Each time, it's been a great experience! I highly recommend Sushi California.

This sushi place was one of my favorite. Recently the rolls are so huge that they always fall apart. They taste ok , but not sure why they make them so big. Also the seaweed is very chewy compared to other places. Not sure if it’s a new chef, but it’s definitely different.

Very lovely. Patient staff, very calm atmosphere, and very catering to a party of four. The food was super yummy at reasonable but justifiable prices. We went axe throwing up the street and this was a perfect post-meetup lunch. Will visit again soon!

Good is delicious. Service can be a little slow, and not all our orders in the phone have been correct, but… food is incredible.

So, we had a tough day on Friday. A lot of crying.., we went to California to balance the evening. And was worthy 🙌 😌 ! They even understood my desire to have just tuna sashimi, and they got one more client ❤️, my son, who was first-time. Very nice 👌

Beat sushi I've had since moving to CT. The staff was prompt and friendly. The inside of the restaurant was very upscale. I'll be back for sure.

The portions are large, the presentation of the dishes was simply excellent and the service as well. But, unfortunately, all good things ended there. The fish was not fresh and completely tasteless. Now I have a real fight with my husband for the toilet, because we started to feel nauseous 10 minutes after leaving the institution! Best restaurant for food poisoning! In addition, I discovered an incredible talent in myself. Throwing up farther than I can see

Everything was real tasty and well prepared. Service was a bit off, I sat at my table for 14 minutes before being offered water or a menu. Two groups that came in after me received their drink orders before I was even spoken to.

My favorite place around to get sushi and miso soup!

This is the second time I ordered take out sushi from this restaurant and the quality is the worst I've ever had. I ordered a tuna avocado roll and a yellowtail scallion roll and they both were minced meat. The yellow tail scallion roll meat was warm. Big-Y sushi Is at least solid pieces of fish and chilled. Horrible! I gave them a second chance, I won't give them a third.

The food was good, the service was as fair, upon arrival my Bride, and I were greeted by a waitress from the rear of the restaurant, "Hello, how are, you may sit anywhere!!!! We chose our own seats and waited quite a while before the waitress came over to us, seemingly, I did not time her with my watch, as she went about her duties as my Bride and I waited.

A Fresh mouthwatering experience you can't go wrong with this place! it was so delicious. quality sushi. I just can't say enough about this place the atmosphere was great nice and calming. Try it you won't regret it!

I was coming up from New York to visit my girlfriend’s family and we got hungry so we decided to stop at some place to eat. She was feeling burgers but I wanted something else. So while she was placing her order at a burger spot, I walked over to this Sushi California in search of Chicken Katsu and Salmon avocado rolls. I walked in, placed a takeout order, waited about 15 mins and I was out of there. We got to her family’s house and I was excited to dig in. The sushi already looked suspicious to me, but ehh whatever. After I took a bite, instantly spit it out, even the rice was not tasty. Sadly I ended dinner only eating the chicken katsu which was still tasteless, but alas I was hungies. Not saying this is a bad restaurant but my personal opinion is that it was just not at all up to par with the type of Japanese food I’ve eaten. 1/5 stars. I regret spending $30 for food I barely ate.

What a great meal we shared with friends at Sushi California! Their attention to detail and presentation was really impressive on all of the sushi and sashimi. I thought the teppanyaki and Yaki soba dishes were fantastic as well! Everything was fresh, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. It was clean and the dining room had a nice ambience. I also thought it was nice that they had a menu of specials that get rotated out monthly! This is a great spot to know about in the area, and CCSU students should definitely come check this spot out!

I'm baffled at how highly rated this place is. Look, the service is nice and the decor was pretty too, nothing wrong with that. The food was some of the blandest I've ever tasted. The miso soup wasn't salty, the sushi was over-cucumbered and the shumai was straight outta the fridge. There must be different cooks, because mines forgot the seasoning.

I frequently visit this sushi spot because it’s close to my house. For the most part the food is always on point and I’ve even dined in twice which were also good experiences! Staff is normally very friendly;)

This place is much prettier than most sushi restaurants in Connecticut. The air smells so fresh and the table clothes are bright white. I almost felt under dressed! The food and service was also quite good. Attentive but not stifling. Prices seem fair.

Normally i give generous 5 stars. Not saying im that of someone whom ppl regard to for reviews, at least i dont think... But... Just someone who wants to provide their 2 cents. Things they did wrong that other restaurants normally do right: 1. When we arrived we were told to sit wherever. - thats ok, dont mind, would rather prefer. BUT. the table we sat at was one of two that were available, and the otthwe was at a incinveniced location being in the middle. - the table we sat at had a very sticky table surface. 2. They forgot our napkins, chopsticks, forks, utensils. We waited for a bit, and even MULTIPLE servers passed by us. Still no utensils. But heres the kicker! I got up, got the utensils from their area, made noticeable eye contact with whomever was there at the station, and they made a visible unpleasantry towards me. Like, its not my fault your server disnt provide us with the right utensilsz let alone any utensil. 3. The server was talking with their coworkers after quite a cinsiderable amount of time. And we still havent had any offerings to take our order. I had to physically get up and ask them to take our order. Nowx its not DIFFICULT to do that, but its ANNOYING that im TIPPING for their SERVICE. And i do NOT like tipping small amounts! But thye literaly didnt do anything right. I had to unfortunately tip the ol fashion $2. Not to compliment them on their effort, oh no, that was nonexistent. But to tip them on the fact that their atmoaphere and scenery is lovely, and their energy bill must be big. Food was meh. Seaweed on the salmon rolls seemed crusty, not fresh. And i visit aLOT of restaurants, just as its convenient to me given my locations. Their food... Mid... My friends rainbow roll fell apart just as she tiuched it with her chopsticks. But the salmon avocado was heavenly. Thats the only thing keeping me from giving them a 2 star. Salmom avocado and the atmosphere are the two only things i had that were positive experiences from there.

I ordered a cucumber avocado roll and its wrapped almost twice in rice. Make smaller rolls to cut costs, dont wrap them in so much rice that all i taste is fishy (seaweed) rice. Unbelievable. So cheap its sad.

My daughter took me out for dinner. She knows we both love sushi 🍣. The place was super. Loved decor. Service was impressive. We ordered a little bit variety of sushi and sashimi, and shrimp Sephora. One of the sushi we had were fish eggs. I have never tried that before. We both tried it and it was delicious. Felt like little pebbles popping in your mouth. Everything was perfect. Definitely going back there.

I normally like ordering from California Sushi and Grill .I get the Sushi- Sashimi combo which normally includes Miso soup and a salad which I look forward to having. It was not included this evening

The food was delicious, I had soft shell crab for a appetizer, I'd prefer if they didn't add a side of fake crab next to the real crab, not a fan of any fake crab, the gesture was nice though. Soft shell crab was excellent. And for main course, I had the Rock & Roll Roll, it was excellent. Entire dinner was a bit pricey, but, overall I recommend this restaurant.

Not as many options as normal sushi restaurant, spicy salmon wasn’t to my liking and no options for scallop or some other popular rolls that my guests and I were looking for. But all in all pretty good sushi

I had 2 basic rolls and a special roll along with a glass of Merlot. Food was decent. Service was excellent.

This place is great in everyway. Visited a few times, waiters are always helpful and friendly. Food is amazing, dont know what it's like in Japan but this has to be close. Well deserving of 5 stars across the board.

Ordered there one time in 2016! Will not be headed back. You go and you'll understand this post. I've eaten much better sushi and didn't have to wait as long for "Raw" fish in Olando Florida. Note, I'm from New England and everybody knows that we have the best seafood options found anywhere on the East coast. Step up your game California sushi, we expect better, Go Pat's.

A couple of weeks ago I was craving sushi and found Sushi California. I took a chance and boy am I glad I did! First, the service was excellent. In my excitement of getting sushi, I started to order much more than I needed but the guy at the counter took control, made suggestions and kept me from having to mortgage the house to pay for my order! Secondly, the food was ready in less than 10 minutes! Lastly, when I got home the food was awesome! Will I go again? I'm on my way back for lunch today! That was 4 years ago and I've been back there dozens of times. It has become my "go-to" place when I want good, quality sushi. I'm moving south in a couple of weeks and I know it's going to be difficult finding another place like Sushi California! However, in the mean time, I'm going to eat as much Sushi California as possible!!

Came here with my family for lunch. Pros: * great location. Its near other food places, gas stations, its not a high traffic area, not too far from parks, axe throwing place and close to CCSU. That way if you want to do something before or after you have options. * lots of parking * the establishment was clean *relax and quiet ambience. Great for first dates, catching up with friends and family, or bringing colleagues for professional lunch/dinners, etc. * Staff was attentive *family friendly * the food was all good but one of the dishes (I believe it's called chicken teppanyaki) was excellent I highly recommend. We were surprised how much we got. It was a little pricey but I'd ordered it again. Cons: A little pricey (but nowadays everywhere prices are going up) Overall I'd recommend the establishment and I'd definitely go back

Their prices went way up and i can't justify it. It was already a tad expensive but 7.50 for vegetable gyoza? $7 for a sweet potato roll? I used to come here often since it's convenient, nothing great, nothing terrible. But i can't justify the cost for standard run of the mill sushi.

This is a place you can trust for excellent fish.

Given this place 3 tries over 3 years and it is an overall let down each time. Mediocre quality sushi rolls, spicy is sauce dolloped on top, and the fish just tastes off each time. They also didn’t give me chip sticks on a sushi take out order which pretty much ruined lunch. No more trying for this place.

Ordered food to go. Was ready when I got there, fresh and hot. TheVegetable Gyoza was so good.

We shared 6 types of sushi. They were all delicious. We also had chicken katsu in a bento box, great option for kids. Also tried mango, green tea and salted caramel mochi. Delicious!

My new little spot I enjoy eating, enjoy the dine in experience, staff is well mannered and polite. Very nice and welcoming. Definitely will continue coming here ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The customer service was horrible, he treated my family in a very rude way, I don’t know his name but he is probably Asian, with glasses. But the food was delicious.

I am always blown away by not only the quality but the staff at this restaurant. I have a gluten allergy and the chef and staff kindly alerted me that the products I chose werent gluten friendly and helped to adapt it for me. They are so thorough and Well regarded with respect to allergies and contamination. Chef Oh and his team are truly a blessing to work with and their food is beyond compare. No sushi in the area is as delectable and perfectly made. I will always stand by this restaurant for years prior and years to come. They only continue to get better - and they’re alreAdy the best! Highly recommend !

I love this place however I received the worst customer service here. A family member of mine has medical issues and the person receiving the call kept it unprofessional with her and would not understand her issues. I do t know if she was a new worker or not but this experience was terrible

Their dumplings were amazing with a nice crispy outside and juicy inside. Me and my wife got the love boat for two and it was good but I found out that I'm not a big sashimi fan so after awhile that's the only taste I had in my mouth. Their fried ice cream is amazing as well I would highly recommend that. Great atmosphere and nice staff nonetheless.

High-quality sushi in a very convenient plaza. The prices were much lower pre-Covid which has caused me to eat here much less, but given the circumstances, I understand why they may have raised them. There are cheaper places to get sushi but they’re all about 15-20 mins away in West Hartford area.

Outstanding service and great food. The sushi here is some of the best sushi I have ate outside of Japan. Any one stating that the food is mediocre and the portions are to small are to used to an Americanized version of this cuisine. I would highly recommend this fine establishment.

Great service, reasonable price!

Used DoorDash to pick up a quick sushi lunch to go (first time) while I was commuting. The tuna literally melted in my mouth and the whole thing was the freshest I’ve ever had. I enjoyed it so much that I brought my husband for dinner the very next day. We had an excellent server and enjoyed fun Saki Bomb specials. The sushi was wonderful. This will be our new place.

Absolutely excellent sushi and service. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the area. The sushi boat is a great deal for larger parties.

Surprisingly pleasant low key decor, food was good but not as flavorful as i expected from the appearance, price and previous reviews. The sushi was fresh but lacked something, and the seaweed salad tasted like it came from a standard box with no embellishments. I would give them a second chance, but the pricing also was fairly high.
