First of all, unlike other local sushi restaurants, you need to make reservations if you want to eat during the normal dining hours. This place is rather small and always packed for dinner. We recently got lucky and slipped into seats at the sushi bar and were lucky to do so. The staff is beyond friendly and extremely attentive to any needs you may have. I had some of the best nigiri I have had in some time and the specials are highly recommended as a top choice. I generally just order whatever the specials are and have a great experience. Take some time and head out there way as you wont be disappointed.

Love this place, wish they imported fresh seafood from Japan. Maybe fresh wasabi also. My daughter love the pork katsu. I like grilled fish.

I was so pleasantly surprised at how delicious the sushi was and how authentic the whole experience was! The spicy tuna was simply divine! I cannot wait to go back for more! Next time, I'll make a reservation for one of the tiny booths.

Service was good. I wasn't a fan of the food but it was authentic. The Gyoza was amazing. The pho I had was subpar. Employees were nice and friendly.

This is a small popular restaurant located in a shopping strip. Reservations are recommended. There’s a small sushi bar or tables for seating. We started off with the Mussels Yaki, then had the Sushi Dinner and Chirashi Bowl. Both meals came with Miso soup and salad. Fish was fresh and delicious with a nice variety.

Maybe living in Hawaii has our standards high but we tried their bestselling ramen dish and several sushi rolls, sashimi and nigiri. Everything was mostly below average and we were disappointed. Will not be coming back.

Im extremely picky with sushi almost to a flaw because I really like sashimi. This place DELIVERS some of the highest quality in the upstate. I had the blue fin special and that color texture were next level. I splurged and tried the A5 Wagyu and the server came up and told me it was prepared ready to eat because they didn’t want to see me disrespect it with soy sauce haha absolute melt in your mouth insane experience.

I've been coming here for almost 20 years. It's always great. The restaurant is a bit on the smaller side so if you go when they are busy, be aware.

I've traveled in Japan extensively and the food really scratches that itch when I'm missing it - updating my review a year later to add this is still one of my and my coworkers favorite lunch spots. Having been our go-to spot 15-20 years ago, we were thrilled to discover that despite new ownership five years ago, the essence of what made this place special has been preserved, with some familiar faces among the staff. Upon our arrival on Wednesday, 2/28, around 6:30 pm, we were greeted by a courteous gentleman at the doorway who, though slightly taken aback by our lack of reservation, promptly worked to find us a suitable table. After a brief wait, we were seated and embarked on a culinary adventure that reaffirmed our love for Sushi Masa. To kick off our meal, I opted for edamame and plum wine, both of which were executed to perfection. The flavors were a nostalgic reminder of why we cherished this restaurant in the past. My wife's choice of the spicy tuna and California roll showcased the chef's skill in crafting delectable sushi. I, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp tempura dinner—every bite was a testament to the kitchen's mastery. Despite a hiccup with the initial seating and a minor mix-up with the beverage order, the attentive staff quickly resolved these issues, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. It was heartwarming to encounter someone on staff who remembered us from the past and shared that the original owner occasionally checks in, adding a touch of authenticity to the atmosphere. In the end, the impeccable food and the overall pleasant evening led us to a unanimous decision to award Sushi Masa a well-deserved 5-star rating. Sushi Masa is so fresh & delicious! The wagyu beef nigiri on the specials board is one of my favorite bites of any restaurant I’ve ever been to. For a fraction of the price of a fancier downtown counterpart, you get phenomenal fresh sashimi & prompt attentive service. It’s a no frills environment but the food speaks for itself. We will return again & again!

My former favorite sushi place shut down recently, but I just found my new go-to spot at Sushi Masa! Ate there for lunch, and had a 10/10 experience. - The restaurant is an intimate space and feels very cozy. - The wait staff was welcoming and attentive. - I ordered the sushi & chicken teriyaki bento box. Sushi was fresh and food was so flavorful. Everything was great, and I plan on being back soon!

Previously I gave sushi masa a glorious review. I was desperate for good sushi in the town of Greenville and I found this restaurant to be authentic. Unfortunately my second foray on Valentine's Day with my wife was not as good as I originally thought. I found the sushi slices small and lacking. The role I ordered as well was flimsy and not well made the ends were missing the fish. I don't think I can drive all the way out there again for a meal like that.

Last night was our weekly date night, and I chose to try Sushi Masa for the first time for both of us. We didn't make reservations which we will next time. While waiting to sit at the sushi bar, a table opened up for us. We started off with the Mussels Yaki and Gyoza. They were delicious! Some of the best Gyoza I've had in a long time. Then we ordered the Magu, Ninja, California Sandae, and Sweet Honeymoon rolls. The Magu was the clear favorite, but they all were delicious. The service was great, and i really loved the atmosphere that makes me feel like I'm in Japan( almost). We have added this to our rotation of sushi restaurants.

Chicken wings believe it or not are awesome. Teriyaki plate was just kind of weird. All in all, and especially for the price, was awesome

Great sushi! It’s best to call ahead and reserve a table since they are always busy. We had miso soup, squid tempura, LA roll, and spicy tuna roll. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious.

Sushi Masa is currently one of the most authentic Japanese sushi bars you will find in Greenville, South Carolina. There is an extensive Japanese menu. I recommend the sashimi chef special, the chirashi zushi, or the bento box (like teishoku set meal).

This is the best sushi in Greenville. It’s incomparable to other places like Irishai and Purple. This place gives more authentic vibes. There aren’t a bunch of mayo covered rolls. It feels fresh, light, and somehow you leave satiated. I usually get the Sushi and Sashimi combo or the Sushi Deluxe. My husband has tried all the soups and likes them. We usually get Shumai or one of the other specials. It’s all good!

Die Vorspeise (Miso-Suppe) war ausgezeichnet! Das Sushi an sich hat sehr lecker geschmeckt. Der Nachtisch, ein Green-Tea-Cheesecake, hat uns, insbesondere meiner Freundin, sehr zugesagt. Nettes Ambiente, allerdings fehlt etwas Dekoration. Der Service könnte etwas schneller sein, allerdings waren die Bedienungen stets freundlich. Ich war positiv überrascht über die Braukunst der Japaner hinsichtlich Bier.

I ordered beef teriyaki. It is not sweet teriyaki it is super salty. Food came fast, server not friendly. Ambiance is okay but not great. Soup is good.

I have been to sushi masa for years. The food are authentic from the kitchen food to the sushi bar. Love the sake selection. If you’re looking for japan taste. Sushi Masa will definitely be the one on my list that i can recommend it to you.

As always, Sushi Masa continues to impress. Still recommend calling for reservations, it's that good, but I just snuck in last night. The menu is now on one large front back, bring your readers! I didn't see many new things, instead a little less rolls, but everything is still excellent. Customer service was and always is also top notch.

Everything a sushi place should be and nothing more! If you want authentic, fresh sushi with outstanding service this is your place! The menu is diverse and vast with plenty of authentic offerings other than sushi. Service was extremely friendly and all the staff attentive to the patrons. And can’t forget to point out $5.00 glasses of wine! That’s a rarity unless it’s a mystery brand, which it’s not here. I was very pleased with my decision to drive past several other sushi restaurants to check this place out. I will def be back!

This is my favorite sushi spot in all of Greenville. The fish is so fresh and tastes amazing. The atmosphere and staff are all very knowledgeable and super helpful.

This is a different place. It seems it gets closer to a Japanese genuine experience, and not something americanized. Service is phenomenal. So is its interior vibe. Food-wise, well, my experience was ok. I tend to be picky with asian food. Picky in a way that don’t prefer whole foods but more prepared and mixed meals. And here, it is so fresh (sushi) and to me it seemed too authentic, that didn’t get that. The fried options were our favorites. Maybe skip this part, and order something in the Rolls menu. I would return, but will go with a different mindset and definitely got with other Roll options.

So far the most authentic Japanese food I’ve had since being in Japan. Staff are friendly and attentive. The shoyu ramen was quite good. The gyoza were fantastic. Very nice atmosphere. Not a very big space, so if your a decent sized group making reservations is a must. Also they do not allow reservations for lunch, something to keep in mind. 5/5 will be going back.

It is literally the best place I have ever gone to. The waitress was so nice and the atmosphere was so calm and quiet. The menu was ginormous and the prices were fairly low. I think we spent around 40 dollars and got soup, 7 Nigiri sushi, a California roll, pickled plum roll, another roll, and a jellyfish salad. The food was very authentic and came out so fast, possibly too fast. I was still taking in the surroundings when our soup came. Overall, I wish I lived closer because I would go so much more often! Best sushi ever.

Seond time we have been here, first time for dinner. We got there just as they were opening and there was a line at the door. As soon as we got in they had to go orders flying out. Very busy, but thats what I prefer to see at a restaurant. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Will more than likely be our new regular spot for sushi.

First time visiting and the food was great. It took a long time for the food to come out (even though the dining room wasn’t packed) but it was delicious once it did. We’ll be back but probably for take out to avoid the prep delay.

Sushi Masa has some of the best sushi in the area. Really authentic and genuine ingredients. The motif was perfect and the atmosphere made you feel welcomed and at home. We had several different sushi rolls and the California roll was my favorite. Perfectly put together with love and care. Service was excellent. We had a great experience and will definitely be coming back. We tried the hot sake as well as the Fuji Apple cold saki. Highly recommend that fugi apple saki!!

Ate dinner with a group of friends not very many vegetarian friendly options- soup broth is meat based and tempura is fried with meat very yummy umeboshi and salad rolls though. Matcha cheesecake is unbelievable even if you don’t like cheesecake you should try it. Atmosphere and staff is also great

If you want an actual authentic Japanese meal, this is the place! The staff are all incredibly friendly! I'm talking: they remembered my name and who I was even after months of not being there. Their food is amazing in quality and taste. The environment is very cozy, too. If you plan to go for dinner at the end of the week or on a weekend, just be prepared to either reserve a table or go early. They're popular because they're good! Also, check out the Japanese grocery store, Tanpopo, that's run by the same family.

My wife and I went here on a lunch date last week and were not disappointed. Our server seated us quickly, was very kind and attentive, the food was excellent and for sushi, very reasonably priced. This will definitely be a go-to restaurant for us.

This was one of our favorite sushi restaurants in the area until this evening. They were extraordinarily understaffed and overcrowded. We were there for my wife's birthday and it took two hours for apps and main courses. The food was fine, but portions were small and some of it was coming out ripping out like it was fresh out of the fryer and other food was coming out cold (that should have been hot). Apps that were ordered at the same time took 30 min to arrive between dishes. A disappointing experience.

Worst sushi I ever had, no spicy mayo, tea smelled like burned fish water , rice smelled like burned fish . I do not know why people eat there or if the reviews that are good are real .

My favorite restaurant, hands down. This little place off Pelham has been a tradition for my friends and I since about 2011. My beloved late brother, Richard, loved this place dearly. He would always order the mackerel nigiri. I have many wonderful memories eating here with great company and delicious, authentic Japanese food. The staff is phenomenal, and they recognize us everytime. Photos provided were taken by my brother. I live in Texas currently, so I try to eat here whenever I'm in town! If you love sushi and haven't tried Sushi Masa, you should come by!

My husband and I love coming here; we eat here about once a month. We’ve tried many things on the menu. Some of our favorites: gyoza, saba shioyaki (grilled mackeral), sushi, shoyu ramen, tonkotsu ramen, tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet). The miso soup is incredible, and we love the little seasoned rice appetizer that comes with many of the meals. Having just come back from 3 weeks in Japan, I think I can safely say the food here at Sushi Masa is authentic Japanese. It is comparable to anything we had while in Japan and the service here cannot be beat. I do have one suggestion; not a complaint but wishful thinking…. I would love to see aji egg (marinated boiled egg with jammy or slightly runny yolk) as an option for a ramen topping instead of sliced hard-boiled egg. If not possible I understand.

The place was incredibly great I really loved everything about it the staff was amazing I just couldn't believe how nice they were They were great The sushi was very impressive on how they displayed it when it came out. Very clean place. Overall they deserve the best because I will be going back and I hope the same for everyone else that goes there. I mean they were on everything we needed they gave it to us. I just hope this place keeps getting better and better

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Greenville. Visited very recently for dinner and it started storming badly shortly after being seated and their power went out. They just kept going and were so prepared. We were very impressed. Brought out some tea lights as well as some bright lamps to help light the place up for the patrons who were dining. Food was still great and we had a nice little impromptu candlelit dinner. Everyone there is always so helpful and friendly.

Delicious and authentic Japanese food. Restaurant interior is on the smaller side but very cozy and comfortable. Service was A+. I got the takowasa as an appetizer and the $20 sashimi dinner. The sashimi dinner came with a salad, miso soup, and rice so at the end of the meal I was feeling very content but not uncomfortably stuffed. Will definitely be back when the sushi cravings hit!

Had a great time at Sushi Masa. The atmosphere was great. I completed the meal with chopsticks! The hot tea was a nice touch too. The servers stayed busy and kept things moving. Our food was delivered in a timely manner and was delicious.
