Best sushi in CT. Old-school hospitality. Hard to find that these days!

This is Authentic Japanese sushi! Run by a husband and wife. The rolls are very generously sized and the tea is amazing. My table drank the entire pot on a hot, humid, summer day.

Excellent place to sit down and enjoy some extremely tasty sushi. Prices are fair and they always give you free mochi at the end of your meal. Highly recommend!

Best sushi around! My go-to takeout spot

If you like Sushi then this is a must try spot! The service is excellent and the sushi is probably the freshest I've had in a long time. They seat you right away and start you off with hot green tea. The menu selections were everything you would expect but I was surprised they didn't have Japanese "clear" soup, only miso which I typically dont like but was great here for some reason. They also don't serve alcohol but that's not a big deal. After I was done they brought out a complimentary piece of Mochi Ice Cream which was a nice (unexpected) way to cap off a great meal. Highly recommend checking them out. I'll be back for sure. P.S. Definitely get the Pink Lady Roll... it's amazing!!!

Best sushi I’ve ever had and I eat ALOT of sushi

While the reviews are high, I found that they cut corners and use a filler in their Spicy Tuna roll of which you can see minced imitation crab and barely any tuna. Nowhere on the menu does it say a spicy tuna roll is a mix of tuna and imitation crab. The owner even showed me the “mix” he uses and there was clearly more imitation crab than tuna pieces in it. Pretty sad and a clear misrepresentation of a spicy tuna roll. Won’t be back here!

Food is excellent and genuine, especially the Korean food The owners are a sweet old Korean couple who make everything themselves, so service can run a bit slow, but be patient since the food is worth the price. I definitely recommend getting Korean food, not just sushi if you have stomach space!

Delicious sushi with a great variety and full menu. The pieces were massive - four rolls between two people was enough to fill us up. We were provided a pot of smooth green tea upon seating, and the service was warm and homey. What struck us most was how calm and pleasant the environment seemed compared to other restaurants. Despite being a small place, it was active with people picking up and was never empty. Be sure to try the green tea mochi!

Small and quaint little sushi shop. There are only four tables. The family that owns it also runs it and they are extremely kind and dedicated to high quality sushi. Sadly they do not have mackerel. But the food was top notch

This little restaurant is clean and the owner greets you with welcoming pleasantries. Green tea is served plus the pot is left for more servings. Generous portion of miso compared to other places I have gone to. The specialty rolls were also a very nice portion. Service was fast. I will come back for sure.

I am absolutely in love with this place. It’s a small spot, family owned, and I truly feel at home every time I come. Eating in is worth the experience! You are welcomed with hot tea, and after your meal you are treated to green tea mochi for dessert. The sushi is the freshest I have had around here, and the portions are quite filling. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place-with all my heart. I have gone here multiple times a week sometimes, and it just brings me pure joy.

A local hidden gem. By far the best and freshest sushi around.

Sushi red is consistently impressive. We’ve been 4-5 times now and every time the fish is extremely fresh, the rice is so fresh it’s still a little bit warm from the rice cooker. The food is fairly priced, fresh and delicious. All you can want with sushi. The service is timely and welcoming, we absolutely love it here and would recommend it to anyone looking for high quality sushi!

Amazing find right down the street from my job in the plainville/southington area! I was kindly greeted by the owner as I was picking up my food to-go. Clean atmosphere and very friendly staff! Must try their spicy rolls, they give a great kick! Very fresh and highly recommend. Glad I found this hidden gem. Will be back to try more of their traditional Korean dishes and sushi of course!

My favorite place in CT!!!!! So fresh and delicious! The spicy salmon roll doesn’t have the crunchies it’s clumps of salmon and actually spicy! Top quality. I also love the American roll. I love all their rolls!

As everyone says, don't let the outside deter you. I don't think you can get this quality of sushi for this price anywhere else in Connecticut. The couple who runs this restaurant were very nice. Well worth the 45 minute drive for me.

I have a feeling I know why this place is highly rated. The owner and his family are so kind and really take care of their customers. We appreciated how they took care of us such as the complimentary tea and mochi ice cream. The sushi, however, could be improved. The rolls had a lot of rice. Not only around but also inside which I haven't seen before. It makes the rolls incredibly thick and it's difficult to taste the fish or other fillings. I was not a fan of some of their flavors such as their spicy tuna which was more Sriracha forward than balanced. The pictures are a bit deceiving. This place is a small, quaint, hole in the wall. It is clean but not really the ambiance for a nice meal. We drove half and hour because we wanted to try a new place and people seemed to rave about it. I can get liking the place if you're a local.

Warm welcome, excellent sushi 🍣 options in an unassuming little plaza on the Plainville/Southington line. From the warm konacha tea 🍵 to the perfectly spicy Korean ramen, I was impressed with the authenticity in flavors and beautifully presented sushi. To end this delighful meal, a piece of green tea mochi was provided. I am lookimg forward to bringing friends and family to this little gem in my town ❤️

Amazing. Always like to try a new place when I’m in a new town. This place did not disappoint at all. Old school vibe. Very fresh fish. Exceptional service and hospitality. You can tell that the older gentleman preparing the sushi takes a lot of pride in his craft and that he has been doing this the right way for a long long time. Live in Middletown and work near west Hartford a lot, yet this will be my new go-to sushi spot. Thank you 🙏

It's a friendly little spot that's great for quick takeout or a casual dine-in meal. Their long list of sushi, nigiri and sashimi was all fresh and perfectly prepared. (I highly recommend their Sweet Roll!) Their menu also included appetizers like tempura and udon (I recommend their savory Korean ramen.) They started us off with compliments of green tea, and a complimentary helping of yummy mochi ice cream was served after dinner. The servers were welcoming and kind. I'll definitely come back again :)

Crazy good value, big portions. Rice seasoned properly, high quality fish. House-made ginger I think. Chef gave us extra pieces of Nigiri (maybe early bird special?), complimentary mochi. Salmon and Yellowtail were excellent. Highly recommend. Hope they will serve beer and wine one day!

Food was fresh and excellent, I had spicy tuna combo meal miso soup and seaweed salad. I would definitely recommend stopping in don't let the outside of the building discourage you. Service was fast and friendly and reasonably priced. I stared to eat before I remembered to take photos so portions are bigger then you see in the photo.

Sushi Red is an absolute gem! Super fresh menu that really features the quality of the fish. Casual setting with options of bar seating or booths, it's a spacious and welcoming environment. The small staff is friendly and efficient, the chef is an artist and it's great to get to interact with him! Complimentary tea and mochi, lovely plus!

Ok this place. I was shocked at how good it was being as kind of on a back road as it appeared to be. Literally, they were a cozy little place and the food was delicious, it came out in good time, the place was clean, and the (I assume owners) were extremely pleasant.

Staff were honest with wait times, and offered a great selection of drinks and food. Itamae was kind!

Materials are so fresh. The owner and chef are devoted to make nice and yummy dishes. Chef's special rolls are so great.

This is my absolute favorite sushi spot. Been going here for a few years now and it never disappoints. Locally owned and delicious! Every roll is perfectly crafted and the fish is always super fresh. I often get the Spring roll combo (2 salmon avocados and 1 tuna avocado). The free green tea and mochi at the end are such perfect treats. I'll be back hundreds of times :)

Hands down the best quality sushi I have ever had in my life. I've been to several restaurants all around CT and New England and none of them can even compare. I literally dream about the food from Sushi Red. The owner is a master of his craft. Service? Outstanding. You wont find better sushi anywhere else in CT.

Fantastic sushi! We have sushi all the time and it was probably the best I’ve had all year. Also gyoza, shrimp shumai, and the kimchi dumplings are fire. Very nice owners as well

Best sushi in CT!!! I haven't eaten at all sushi restaurants in CT, however of the 50 or so I have eaten at, Sushi Red is hands down the best. It's owner operator has been a sushi chef for decades. The quality of the fish is way above other places and the cuts he uses are like no other sushi chef I've seen. Don't let the location and facade fool you. One thing to note, this is very traditional sushi. No frills. No fancy deep fried rolls. This place is a must for real sushi lovers 🙏

This is the best sushi I’ve ever had and I’ve gone to places in NYC, Boston, Middletown CT, New Haven… the customer service is great, and the owner is so friendly and welcoming. I definitely recommend eating in, enjoy complimentary tea and mochi. I ate here before going vegan and enjoyed all the rolls. Now I usually get the veggie spring roll, edamame, seaweed salad, veggie gyoza, and they recently expanded the menu. I recommend everything I’ve had. All so good!

Best sushi place I've been to in the area by a far margin. The restaurant itself is quaint and better suited for a quick visit than a romantic atmosphere but do not let it fool you. The man behind the counter is a total work horse that pumps out quality sushi with quality ingredients in a reasonable time. I couldnt recommend it enough, don't sleep on this place!

Always the best sushi place you could possibly go to. The fish is picked out by the owner every Sunday so he’s not open. Will make the rolls the same way he did a year ago. Consistency! He doesn’t speak English very well but very friendly and will try his hardest to answer every question you have. Gives you the right amount of soy sauce on take out that you might think ‘this won’t be enough’ but trust me it will always be. After coming here all other places will be sad imitations of inferior sushi. WARNING!! Spicy rolls are spicy! Love them but you will not taste anything else for hours after. So save them for the end. Or mix it with an eel roll. Good combo.
