One of my friends made a reservation and we had a tea-time on one rainy Saturday noon. We selected the Prince William and Lady Katherine tea and was indeed delicious. The tea cups remind me of Florence, Italy...

We turned up and to be fair it was pretty full. It took them about 15 minutes to seat is despite our table being ready. They then took a long time to serve is our first dish and they seemed pretty distracted with music and everything but looking after their customers. I found it impossible to get their attention even when they didn't provide us with appropriate cutlery, and there were a few similar issues, so in my mind the service was a bit below par. However, they do put on a nice spread and selection of food, so if you can tolerate the service it's worth it.

I was pleasantly surprised when I had afternoon tea here last week. We had the Prince Harry Tea for Two. It came with a variety of sandwiches, choice of two scones and a pot of tea. We loved the sandwiches. They are classics with a twist and good size too! I have to say that the scones were the best ones I have ever had - including the ones I had in London. The red raspberry tea was fragrant and fruity. I already emailed a friend about having tea!

This place is sweet as the tea is served in a polo shop. It's not elegant but the service is great and the food is unique. They bake old fashioned brown bread the kind your Mom used to buy in a can and use that for the tea sandwiches. They also use the inside of the loaf that has been cut out to serve the sandwiches in. It is nice too as you are not overwhelmed with too much food unless you want it. You can order the whole high tea experience or as my friend and I did only the sandwiches, scones and tea. Not having the sweets at the end was actually nice!

If you are looking for something slightly unusual, away from the tourist hub but with a satisfying tea and tea sandwiches service, visit this place. The front is a horse related shoppe, the back, a fireplace, a china vitrine, a few rugs and an English tea to be had. The small sandwiches are made of a home made bread and are very good. The orange chocolate scone is sinful. It is filling enough to be a lunch. There is a good selection of tea. The service is a little slow, as it is a very small outfit, and they are made for you after you place your order, by one person. Very homy, tasty, slightly unusual. It is not especially cheap, and reservations are recommended, especially on Saturday.

Delightful tea shoppe featuring horse related riding accoutrements. Best value is to get a Living social or Groupon deal, but I've visited the place many times without a coupon and it's always a lovely experience. The motor loaf is my favorite! Heads up, parking is difficult but the 38 bus drops off only 2 blocks away so transit shouldn't be a problem.

Two things I love ~ high tea and horses. I felt like I went through a time warp to discover this place just over a year ago. Yesterday they were having a very busy day but being that I was solo, the nice ladies accommodated me on a quiet table where I could order HIGH TEA complete with English trifle and a nice salad. The decor is terrific. I highly recommend a stop here if you can. It's a gem of a place.

I have high standards for a tea, and this shoppe definitely needed improvement. The tablecloths had not been ironed, the silver was tarnished, the teapot lid did not match the pot, the napkins were paper instead of linen. Having said all that, however, the tea itself, especially all the freshly made pastries was outstanding. The tea sandwiches were made with a sweet bread carved out of a loaf (pictured above), and the scones were some of the best I've ever eaten. Mine had just a hint of lime, and my friend had a chocolate orange scone based on the traditional chocolate orange that you see at Christmas. She said it was as good as the chocolate scone she makes herself, which is high praise! So, it was a mixed bag. But you can't eat the ambience -- better that the food be good and the tablecloths wrinkled, than serving stale scones on tidy tables.

I wanted to take my granddaughter, Tara, out to tea , by reading other reviews knew this would be a great choice. It's a good thing I knew about the horse statue in front , otherwise it would be easy to miss. I had purchased a Groupon coupon for a ' Prince Harry Tea' . We found the selection of tea's to be excellent ~ I can't say enough how delicious we found both the tea sandwiches and scones. If they have the Orange & Guirardelli scones be sure to order these yummy treats!

My favorite tea experience in SF so far (and I've been to many tea rooms)! Ambiance is like a comfy Ralph Lauren Sweater - you're surrounded by equestrian gear and tasteful tea knick knacks, while enveloped by classical music and the chit chat of neighboring tables. The huge stand out is their homemade motorloaf bread, which is hearty and nutty. The scones (around $5.50) seem pricey in comparison. They frequently have groupon or other deals. The staff is warm and attentive.

I invited a friend to a birthday afternoon tea at the place when a reservation opened up a few days before. There aren't many tables so reservation is a must on weekends. The polo riding stuff is a bit kitcshy. I thought that it was over cluttered since they used the bathroom to store stacks of extra shoe boxes of boots. The best part of the tea was the blackberry and vanilla scone. My friend enjoyed her Ghiradelli chocolate chip scone. Service was courteous. What I disliked was the micro sugar cube sized shortbread biscuit (crumb). They could have tried to bring us each a normal sized cookie for presentation and satisfaction. That micro cookie delivery made me burst out with laughter.

Afternoon tea and equestrian paraphernalia...a fun and unusual combination. The host was very pleasant (I believe he is the owners' son) We sat next to the the owners who had stopped in for tea and had a chat about polo and the shop. The motorloaf sandwiches were delicious. I love the homemade brown bread with a hint of molasses flavor. It is a small loaf of bread, the inside of which is cut into enough slices for 6 sandwiches. My friend didn't like egg, so they let us substitute a second salmon sandwich. So that we could have the maximum taste treat, we cut each sandwich (other than the salmon) in half. The salad was fresh and the scone was delicious. All in all, it was a very pleasant afternoon.

Visited this shoppe with 9 other ladies! The atmosphere was unusual, being that we were enjoying tea and scones amidst retail clothing. The motorloaf bread, to me, was on the "dry" side. The scone was good. The tea selected for me, was very strong and would not be my first choice. It is a nice touch, that the baking is done as we dine, and served hot from the oven. Overall, the teatime spent was a lot of fun because of the conversation and company. Glad we used a Groupon, because I would have been disappointed had I paid full price.

Everything was fun about finding a place in the Richmond to spoil my mother with a delicious array of food and goodies. The equestrian atmosphere gave a nice atmosphere to the place while we enjoyed our salads, delicious little sandwiches on good brown bread (surrounded by fruit slices), our tea and our gigantic scones. Anything that makes my mom happy makes me happy and we plan to return.

This is a hidden gem in San Francisco's Sea Cliff neighborhood. I took my husband to afternoon tea at Tal-Y-Tara Tea & Polo Shoppe for his birthday. The shop is cozy and unique and the equestrian theme is fun. The tea service was quite filling and delicious. The motorloaf bread sandwiches alone are worth the trip and the scones are out of this world. The service included a choice of tea from a large selection, a choice of salad, a variety of motor loaf sandwiches, shortbread and a choice of scone. I must say that the orange/dark chocolate scone was the highlight of my meal. It was warm, moist and the orange was a perfect subtle complement to the dark chocolate. In the last month, I've been to four different tea shops in 2 different cities, Tal-Y-Tara Tea & Polo Shoppe is one of my favorites.

I've bookmarked this place for a while (I LOVE going to tea to slowly catch up with my female companions) and with a Groupon, it was perfect timing to try. I got the Queen's tea which was typically $62 for two people - the Groupon was for $31. Just like the place says, it is a tea AND polo shoppe. Walking by, there's not much around (residential area!) and from the outside, you would never really think you could have tea here - it straight up looks like an equestrian store. Walking in though, about half the space is for tea and half for polo shoppe. (Surprisingly, during the 2 hours I was here, there were about 2-3 people that actually bought stuff! Maybe because the polo fields are near by). It was a nice touch to connect the two together. The decor is not as nice as most of the other places (maybe because of the retail half). I wish the tea-half of the store was more themed and separated off though! It was still a cozy place to eat and chat. The tea cozies on the teapot was a cute touch but most of them had tea-stains. I guess it could be good for a vintage touch but ehh.. haha. Like most other tea places, it is pricey (I always expect to spend $20-25 pre tax/tip). AND like most other tea places, the service is friendly and quaint.. The service was slow but I kind of enjoyed it because it didn't distract me from my conversation at all. If you ever need anything, just wave them down. Don't be scared to ask for more hot water for your tea!! I was there for about 2 hours and was never rushed so I didn't feel bad taking my time at all. The timing of the food was slow (if that's your sole purpose in coming), but since I was mainly here to catch up, it was perfect and made me pace my food and talk! OKAY - the actual food. In a nutshell, is nothing SPECIAL, and if you just think about the cost of food, it is certainly overpriced, but keep in mind you're paying for ambiance! QUEEN'S TEA. This was $62 for two and was the priciest out of the 3 options for tea. I believe the cheapest is $40 for two. Mango bango tea: Standard tasting black tea with mango infusion. Nothing special. Comes with sugar and cream. Choice of salad (3 salads): My mom and I both got the fruit salad which was filled in a wine glass. Just apples/strawberries/blueberries/raspberries. I believe if you got it by itself that it'd be $7. UH totally not worth $7 but yea. lol Platter of motorloaf sandwiches: This didn't look that big for 2 people but man, I was full from this and we even had leftovers. It comes with 6 finger sandwiches and we just had two each. The bread is like an irish soda bread, consistency between a thicker dense bread and cake. It was good! The sandwich filling was pretty standard (kinda dry IMO) The presentation is cute since they cut the bread from the loaf and then use the hollowed out loaf as a platter! Save the extra bread/spreads for later! Scones: Got the blackcurrant (dry and not very blackcurrant-y..) and the orange/dark chocolate one. OMG that orange/dark chocolate scone was definitely the best part of my meal!!. It was moist and the orange was a perfect subtle complement to the dark chocolate. Trifle: We ended with a trifle which was served in a wine glass, perfect way to end the meal. Light and perfect balance of sweetness and textures. OVERALL - I don't think I'd return without a Groupon. But it was certainly fun and I would recommend if you are in the area! & THE ORANGE/DARK CHOCOLATE SCONEEEEEEEEEE.. get it!

Hugh has a wonderful shop. We ordered the Prince Harry tea set. It came with endless pots of your choice of tea, Scottish shortbread cookies, a classic Motorloaf (loaf of bread with the middle removed and replaced with small savory sandwiches), and a choice of two marvelous scones with apricot and raspberry preserves. The atmosphere is perfect, and Hugh occasionally relates stories of growing up in England. Loved it. Will definitely recommend. (Traducido por Google) Hugh tiene una tienda maravillosa.
