Racist owners. Made us (2 Asian customers) sit on the bar stools (I.e., facing away from other people) even though there were tables, and when we asked if we could sit on the table, they said other customers will mind that we were next to them. Then she framed it as “I love ethnic people so I want to speak to you by the bar. And don’t disturb other customers.” But food is good/ok. Would avoid unless you are WHITE

Great service greeted us upon arrival, and throughout the meal! They helped us select the perfect wine to pair with our entrees. We started with the Fava-Santorini, which I savored also during my entree. I enjoyed the sea bass, which our server cautioned was the whole fish with the head and bone. Though this added a slight challenge, it was well worth it! The fish was so flavorful! My guest enjoyed the octopus with a side of potato - so good! We both splurged with homemade Pagota-Mastiha Ice Cream which was creamy smooth with a delicious and interesting flavor. We've been many times and will return again and again!

This place is amazing. We stumbled on it a couple of years ago and have been talking about going back ever since. We finally did last night and loved it just as much the second time. There are some reviews complaining about the place but to us, it is just reminds of us places in Europe. It’s small and appears to be only a chef and single waitperson each time we’ve been there. Which means you might have to wait a bit for things. So relax and slow down a bit. You might actually enjoy yourself. And they sometimes hold empty tables because of reservations coming in, just like every restaurant. The staff are very warm and friendly with customers who are polite but don’t seem to have much patience for obnoxious people - just as it should be.

Please be careful of this place!!! I made a reservation at 12:00 then found out that my guest's flight was delayed so I immediately called the restaurant at 2:00 to let them know. This was all in the same day. They replied "no problem" then proceeded to charge my card 75.00 without my consent. The bitter angry man on the phone told me that is what they do to people no matter what. He was abusive and rude. I cannot believe he runs his business in this sketchy way. Be careful I would NOT trust them with your credit card number!!!! Now I am disputing the charge through Amex. He is a terrible person who does not deserve your business. There are several wonderful restaurants in Brunswick..this place is a scam. He does not deserve your hard earned money.

Best dining experience I've had in a long time. Clean, simple, beautiful food served traditionally and without unnecessary flair. Every dish was delicious and excellently prepared.

Wine was FANTASTIC. Food was meh, service was fine. Wouldn't go back to eat there, but i would go back just for wine.

Four of us ate here Tuesday night. We are new to town and it was our first restaurant to try in Brunswick. Everything was wonderful! The food and service were excellent. It’s a cozy charming restaurant. That night the restaurant was packed for a Tuesday night. Leslianna was the only server. But she did a fantastic job taking care of us with a smile. All of the food and wine were delicious. We will definitely be back.

The best wine list on the Midcoast. Exquisite, unpretentious, elevated regional Greek cuisine. This is a top-notch experience. Fish, cabbage rolls, Greek coffee, service at the top of its class, but so casual and understated. A place for a memotable date. Park in front or in public spaces 100 feet behind the building to the East.

I wish there were an option for zero. The staff is incredibly rude. The restaurant is claustrophobic—too small to accommodate the number of guests. The menu is very limited. I highly recommend skipping this awful establishment.

Two times Ive been and Im still dreaming and craving the food. If you ever see Ox Tail Stew or freshly foraged mushrooms in filo, order!!!!!

Walked in with a group of 2 on a Wednesday evening for dinner. I did not think I'd need a reservation and half of the restaurant was empty. The waitresses asked us to wait outside on the street to see if she could seat us. Waited about 5 minutes and she did not come back! So found another restaurant around the corner that had much better customer service. I can not speak to the food, but would not come back!

1/2 the place is empty walked in for 2 & asked to wait on the street to see if they have available tables on a Wednesday... Total bar empty & 1/2 the tables empty... so we just left & went to the The Great Impasta who was full & said it will only be 5-10 mins &!was supper nice...

We had such a great experience here! The atmosphere was great the food was even better! We had wine, appetizers, main courses, desserts coffees, and a brandy. We did not have a complaint about one thing. We are already talking about going again!

We used to stop here often as we were traveling through the area and recommended it to many other people. Tonight we stopped and had food that was so far removed from our previous dinners that I suspect that there must have been a catastrophic change in chefs or owners. The rice in a stuffed pepper was actually raw and hard. And they changed us for it anyway. So sad. Lovely service though. Never again.

Authentic greek is not a fair description. It is real greek food and delicious.

This tiny restaurant is very nice! My sweetie and I had a wonderful time here. Great service, and great food. The wine and Greek coffee were really good, too. We had cured scallops, tzatziki dip, grilled octopus, and a couple other tasty morsels. Sweetie said she really enjoyed the pine-sap ice cream too.

I've been coming to Brunswick since I was born and this is my favorite restaurant in town... and to think I only found it this past summer! Taverna Khione is a welcome change from the all too common blt, fish & chips, and lobster roll fare in the area. Don't get me wrong, those are all good, but sometimes you need something different! The Food: -I recommend starting with the Tzatziki and bread. The Fava is good too, but the Tzatziki is just a little better. -Next, you MUST order the Soutzoukakia -- "Veal and beef meatballs with cumin and allspice; white wine-tomato sauce," according to their website, and oh so yummy. -Last time I was there, I got the special which was veal... no one was more surprised than I was when it stole the show! Their lamb is usually very good as well. That being said, they do change up their menu and I would definitely ask your server what they recommend. -Finish it all off with a greek coffee. Yamas! Service: I know a lot of folks have complaints about the service. And while you definitely can't expect to be fawned over here, our food has always been very timely. This won't be helpful for visitors, but as we've become regulars the service has improved and we quite enjoy that aspect as well now. Reservations: You need to make one. Every time I've eaten here people have been turned away. Parking: There is a small lot to the left of the Taverna. We've never had trouble finding parking there. P.S. I didn't mention it, but wine is a must here!

Wow! Excellent Greek cuisine. Everything was fresh and delicious. The last time I had taramousalata that good was when my Thea made it. The octopus was crispy and tender, sardines were perfectly grilled with a nice light marinade. The vegetable fritters and imam baldi were better than any I’ve ever had. We had the kataif and pasta flora for dessert - both were great. They have an extensive and impressive wine list. Considering the fact that the place was packed, and there was only one server and it looked as if the one chef in the back we got all of our food and wine etc. in a very timely fashion. We will definitely be back!

Went to this restaurant after the concierge at our hotel made a reservation for us. We arrived an hour before our reservation hoping to be seated early. It was 6pm on a Tuesday night. There were only three tables occupied when we entered. When we asked the hostess if we could be seated early, she began to yell at me saying, “I just talked to you. I told you to come at 7”. When I clarified to say that was not me she spoke to but rather the hotel’s concierge she went on to raise her voice telling me that we should be mad at the hotel not at her. To clarify, we were not mad at all! Simply asking if we could eat a bit earlier. If this is how this restaurant treats their customers… STAY AWAY!!!! Rude, unwelcoming and the worst service I have ever seen!

My parents were in line to be seated on Tuesday August 9. The people in front of them were seated, but they were turned away. But sure what the deal was.

Quaint, cozy and tastefully appointed. Quality ingredients resulting in delicious home style fare. You feel as if you are in your Greek grandmother's kitchen.

This was the best restaurant meal we have had in a long time. Superb food, wine and service. Especially loved the grilled octopus on fava beans. We will be back!

I do not understand how this place stays in business. Read the menu before you go - you’ll see there’s nothing fresh or green on there. No salad, no veg really (except for maybe stuffed grape leaves). Our waitress bordered on rude. With our htipiti and tsatziki appetizers we asked for some olive oil for dipping the (delicious) bread in. "We don’t serve olive oil," was her reply., as she walked away. The grilled octopus was so-so. The fritters were leaden, dense, and heavy. The ambience is minimal . . Kind of a storefront vibe.

Exquisite homemade ice cream - I did the traditional one with a pine influence. I love food that is interesting and divine. Taverna Khione and its staff created an exquisite meal and warm time. Not perfect but it's the best restaurant in the area. The dishes change all the time. So it's natural that with so much experimentation there are some missteps. But usually the food hits a perfect balance of complexity and hominess. This is a culinary adventure every time you go. The phyllo and leek pie is especially excellent.

So special! It's so nice to have dinner here. The woman who runs the front of the house makes you feel comfortable as soon as you enter. Her wine knowledge is fantastic and the selection is impressive. The food is spectacular. The grilled calamari was very tender. We both had the grilled Mediterranean Sea Bass. It was flavorful and we maneuvered the wholeness of the dish with fork knife and fingers and felt completely comfortable doing so.

We love this place. Friendly reception, nice atmosphere and outstanding food. The Prasopita is our favorite dish, followed closely by the Tzatziki and Htipiti.

Nice intimate space, great wine selection. Food is almost like you would get in someone’s home. Pasta appears to be made in house or at least handmade by someone. Grilled octopus was amazing. I also had a duck on pasta dish which wasn’t quite as good because the duck got that weird warmed up poultry flavor.

Friendly waitress and full menu of unmatched options. Be prepared for made to order delicious taste combos! Casually elegant!

Lovely little gem in Brunswick. We attended a special Greek wine tasting which was paired with particular dishes from the northern part of Greece. It was a wonderful and delicious experience. We cant wait to go again!

Nice place, definitely reminded me of being back in Europe. From the service to the flavors. Was really nice. For $84, we got 2 pasta dishes, 2 starters: cheese and fig, toast with spread, 2 glasses of wine. I lived in France for 13 years. This restaurant def took me back there. Only difference is that it would cost half the price in France. Would definitely recommend trying this place out.

delicious, relaxing, authentic, grape leaves in lemon sauce were absolutely amazing. I thought I was in Santorini. Every bite was delectable.

Get a reservation! Be prepared to have the meal unfold slowly. Leave room for dessert. Try a Greek wine. Listen to the staff. That said-- this is not a gyro/kebab place. And if you really don't like seafood or lamb, your options are limited. This is delicious food, prepared for you, one table at a time. Lamb chops are outstanding. The special multi-species fish cakes with mint appetizer were perfectly balanced in texture and flavor. The citrus cured sardines on toast? Delicious. The house bread and tzatziki came in a small enough portion to NOT ruin our meal, but we were at high risk of overeating on starters and small plates. The goat was in a sauce that we all loved. We capped off the meal with the lemon thyme sorbet (sublime and refreshing) and the classic baklava. We are excited about going back.
