I always try to frequent small businesses and hate to give a bad review. My mom was German so i know how it should taste and I know people cook differently. But this food was just gross. The schnitzel was SO thin. It was like a sliver. Dumpling was mushy and tasted like boiled grits. Sauer kraut tasted old. Roulade was dry. Server did fine job and was friendly but the air freshener was overwhelming and shouldnt be in a restaurant. Im glad other people enjoyed it.

Poor customer service. Sign clearly states: Close at 4:00pm on Sundays. Kitchen at 3:30pm. Show up at 3:30pm virtually no one in restaurant. Walk in open door and get an order barked out from Patio...Kitchen closed!! Nothing like I am so sorry or let us see if we can squeeze you in. Just barked a command and went back to his beer. In today's economic climate it was surprising to turn customers away without a welcome and a bit of conversation about better times/days on which to return. Not a good vibe convincing us to try again on another day. People do have a choice on which small businesses to patronize. Review obviously not based on quality of food just the method on greeting potential customers.

Food was greasy, yet meat was dry; flavors were bland. Lettuce was wilted and spotted. Potatoes were lumpy, dry, awful; gravy was from a packet. Waitress complained about replacing an extra plate that was obviously chipped with a chunk missing; for their $5 extra charge, I expect a clean unbroken plate, especially when charged their mandatory extra fee. Place was near empty on Easter Sunday, which should tell you everything. Don't pay extra for lowsy food and bad attitude. Grapefruit beer was only redemption, but we went to eat.

Lettuce in tiny salad was wilted and spotted, not fresh; prabably good that there was so little of it. Meat was dry, yet greasy; gravy was terrible and potatoes seemed store-bought; not flavorful. Waitress complained about replacing the extra plate that: we asked to not have, they charged us for, and had an obvious chip with a chunk missing; I require that $5 mandatory extra plates be in proper condition and meet basic health standards. We were never offered refills on water or anything else and waitress never returned so I could request a water. Place was nearly empty for Sunday lunch, which should tell you everything; their food is lowsy and attitudes are terrible. Don't waste your money; they could care less if you like it.

Quaint little restaurant in Mt. Dora. Definitely has a German vibe about it. The menu is simple. Definitely take a look before you sit down to make sure it has something that appeals to you. That being said, I found my brats to be super tasty and worth ordering again. The German potato salad was also delicious. Service was friendly, but we never got our waters refilled, so that was a bit uncomfortable.

I couldn't say how many times we've walked by this restaurant and never stopped, but this time we actually stopped in. My expectations were not high since I lived in Germany for nearly three years, so I didn't have a great deal of confidence that an authentic version even existed nearby. I have to admit that I - and my wife - were pleasantly surprised. I had the Weiner Schnitzel and my wife, the Jagerschnitzel with potato salad and both options were very good. We chose the applestrudel for dessert and that was also a good one. The food arrived in a timely manner, was delicious and piping hot. The evening was nice. so we had dinner outside and the service, atmosphere and the service were all very good. While we were there, a couple came in and told us that they eat there often and always enjoy it. We've agreed that we'll come back again and maybe more often. There was one 'problem': The portions are on the big side, so you need to be hungry.

We've eaten here a few times and have really enjoyed it. Got on their website tonight to confirm how late they would be open. Their website and Google said 9pm on Friday and kitchen closed 30 minutes prior to closing which is reasonable in my book. We arrived around 7:15pm just to be told the kitchen was closed and they were doing drinks to-go only. Unfortunately, we took our business elsewhere tonight. Hopefully it'll be a better experience the next time.

The staff was friendly, the food was beyond disappointing. The red cabbage was mush, the mustard was not homemade, it tasted like gulden's brown mustard. The brats were overdone and tasted packaged. The schweinbraten was a watery "hormel" pork loin with packaged brown gravy. The pork actually left a pool of water on the plate, under the gravy. It is unfortunate that at an arts festival, when you should be showcasing your best, you limit the menu and provide sub-par food. Sad.

I try not to give small businesses poor reviews, but this was some of the worst food and beverage I've ever had the displeasure of having. I went during the art festival and guess I that's their excuse to serve watered-down beer and dry schnitzel, that or that's their normal fare. I'm normally an easy guy to please with beer, but this was hands down the most watery beer I've ever had. The busch light would've been better. The owners are from Munich. If you served beer like that in Munich, you'd be imprisoned or exiled, which the latter may have happened. The schnitzel was dry and flavorless. The only thing that was any good was the brats...which were not made in house. The gravy I suspect was bought at the nearest Walmart. The closest thing to flavor in the food came from the owner's grandkids blowing dust into my food from the disgusting outside facade. If one of the spider webs from the ceiling fell down on my plate that may have been better. As a final insult they tried to charge us for the 2 beers I sent back. The second beer was sent out after the server insisted the "new girl" watered it down just a little too much. What's the right amount of watering for a german beer? Absolutely criminal. I implore you do NOT go.

We've dined at Bavarian Haus every time we've visited Mt Dora for the last three years. But this review expresses great disappointment even though we didn't dine this time. Christmas week is a busy one, but Bavarian Haus fell over itself pushing us away. There may be a lot of reasons, including a large group at the time, but politeness should never be absent the mix. There were no seats, yet other tables that could have been separated or pulled in from outside seating. An explanation would have been nice.

We came today expecting et al like we remembered from our times here previously. It has been about 5 or 6 years since we were up this way. The owners at that time were from a small town in Bavaria and the food reflected this. Did this place change ownership? First off, we ordered coffees. What we got tasted burnt almost, like it had been sitting in a pot on the burner for a long time. We sent it back and, to their credit, they took it off the bill. Three in our party got pretzel baguette sandwiches. They were unimpressive to say the least. I ordered potato pancakes as a starter. They were crispy but extremely thin and rather oily. There was way more apple sauce and sour cream than these three pancakes even needed. One of us got the wiener schnitzel. It was about half the size it used to be. The red cabbage that came with it was a bit overcooked and more sour and salty than sweet and spicy. The fries were ok but portion was very small. I got the rouladen. I was impressed with the size of this beefy roll, but couldn't detect much in the way of fillings. The taste was just ok. There was a lot of a salty gravy on it as well as the spaetzle noodles, which were again, ok. My red cabbage was the same as what my friend got with his schnitzel. We declined to dessert. All in all, I am quite disappointed with the food here. Also, while we were eating on the outdoor patio, which is in the very front, three of the staff were sitting there smoking while we ate. Having worked for years as a server in various restaurants, this is, in my opinion, a no-no. The other tables which were empty on the patio also looked like they needed a thorough cleaning. Our server, a young man, was nice enough but, it irked me when I sent the coffee back and he said it wasn't old and he had just made it. If that coffee had just been made, someone needs to be taught how to make coffee for sure, especially since this "German coffee" was $4.50 a cup. I don't think we will return to this restaurant again. If we hadn't been really hungry, we would have probably would have left much of this food uneaten. I hope this restaurant can turn itself around for the future and get back to how it used to be. Based on some not so good reviews I have read on here just now, I can see from our experience why so many people were unhappy.

We had reservations for 14 people at 6:30pm. We showed up on time and the lady that greeted us was one of the rudest people I ever met. She abruptly told us it will be more than a hour before we would get our food. They tried moving two tables together that would have barely fit 10 people let alone 14. She said they didn’t have another table because they gave it to another party of six. Mind you, this is all after they told us they could accommodate us at 6:30. I guess this place is financially sound because we went elsewhere and spent over one thousand dollars. I’ll travel hours to get German food instead of ever going back to this place which only takes me about 25 minutes!

I saw German food and wanted my visiting family to try something different, along with good beers. We got potato pancakes and a large pretzel for apps, both were really good. Then the entrees came, very disappointing. The dishes with mushroom gravy were smothered with it, too overwhelming. The sides were okay to awful. The German potato salad lacked the zing one normally tastes with the dish. The red cabbage and sauerkraut were way to vinegary and sour. The spatzle were mushy and with a bland sauce. I made the mistake of ordering the Apfel Strudel, terrible. How a German restaurant can mess up strudel, making the normally crisp baked delicacy into a soggy, mushy heap that looked more like a soft taco, swimming in melted vanilla ice cream, is beyond me. On the bright side, the service was very good and so were the beers.

This is a review of the Bavarian Haus Restaurant in Mt Dora, FL. Yes I've only been to one German restaurant someplace in North Carolina I didn't really know what to expect from this restaurant. The two young ladies that we had interactions with to seed us take our orders and bring us food we're absolutely the nicest you could ever find. 🥰 The interior decor is very nice and gives you that old German mountain house style feeling to it as this is a fairly small restaurant it was actually not overly packed or crowded as far as furniture or decorations just right. We ordered an appetizer to share which was potato pancakes which were absolutely delicious and served with applesauce and sour cream. Main dish was sour broughten, red pickled cabbage and potato dumplings. Everything was fantastic very flavorful moist hot served quickly good portion size. My only not perfect rating would be the fact that I'm not a gravy or sauce person and every item is heavily covered however that's something I could have controlled by ordering had I known. Overall I would definitely recommend it and would most definitely come back here if I was in the area 🥰

Food was fantastic, and the outdoor patio is lovely. Desserts was so-so. Would definitely go back.

On a Saturday night I showed up at 735 to eat. The website and Google both show this restaurant open until 10pm. Rude girl out front said "we are closed!". Needless to say I won't be back here. Luckily I found another eatery around the corner open and happy to take my money.

A small restaurant that does great business. During season, you might want to make a reservation on weekends. We enjoyed the accordion player, food, drink, atmosphere...everything!

I ordered die Käsespätzla with sautéed Onions. When I got the plate first I see the watery saucy substance the Spätzle where sitting in ( that happens when they reheated in water and not drained well) and hardly any cheese to find in the Spätzla. Then a Tbl spoon French's fried Onion instead of in Butter sautéed onions like the menu stated. I would not recommend that dish, grossly overpriced for what you get. My Radler (half beer and half Sprite) was more Lemonade with some beer for the color. The place itself is cute inside and out.

Worst service and restaurant- they refuse to serve even when they are open and 2 hours before closing - avoid!

I called and got a prerecorded message. No indication that they close excessively early. They do not take reservations their web site hasn’t been updated to indicate they close at 730. I do not care if they only have two people. Update your information. That doesn’t take but one person. Very poor customer service.

For German food fans, you must try it here. This surprise resturant in this small Florida town was a surprise surprise. I recommend this resturant for everyone. I respect good quality food like this one. Their server was genuine too. Cheers

Brats were cooked well and tasty. Schnitzel had been pre-cooked and was served lukewarm. The breading was soggy. Sides were okay. Will never return!

A total waist of money. The worst German food we have ever had. The food had been reheated. I have told everyone I know in Mount Dora

Delicious food and good service. They make you feel at home. Goulash soup like mom used to make, and fantastic desserts.

The music was too loud. Someone was hammering on something in the kitchen and never stopped all the time we were there. They do not give you any bread it costs $1.00 for a piece of white bread and a little butter. I had the Sour Braten . It had way too much vinegar in it. The dumplings were like glue. The food overall was not too good. We have been here many times before . It is not the same food. Service was OK not too friendly.
