What has happened to the food here??? I can’t remember the last time I got my steak cooked medium rare on the first try. Everything is either over seasoned or under seasoned, there is no in between. I keep coming back for the cocktails and the service hoping the food will hit like it used to but at this point I’ve basically written off the dinner menu entirely. Which breaks my heart because WK used to be my go to!

We sat outside as it was the perfect weather. Lucky for us we hit happy hour, and it was great, balanced options and very good prices.

We enjoyed our drinks and dinner at the Wine Kitchen. We sat outside. Great food and a great atmosphere. Did not feel rushed at all.

They have another location near Leesburg, VA, but this is a better location by far. They had a really good mac and cheese with a light crunch of bread crumbs. It was a bit liquid-y but that's because it came out hot. The smash burger had a crispy, well grilled meat, and a light sauce at the bun. Fries are crispy enough for its thickness. The shrimp and grits are such a good entree. The shrimps are huge and the sauce is just lightly spiced. I was surprised that the grits were slightly purple, but it made for a great presentation.

It occurred to me, one night after work, that despite living in Frederick most of my life, there were tons of places I'd never eaten at yet. Tonight I chose one of those places at random and decided to treat myself to dinner since my husband was visiting family. I walked in around 9 pm and the hostess didn't bat an eye at my dining alone, and didn't say anything about it, which I appreciate. I was seated right away with no problems and immediately got a chance to look over the menu. I will admit, it took a little bit longer than expected for my waiter to come over, but as a lone diner I sort of expected that. I looked like I was waiting for someone, I'm sure. The look and feel of the place was very upscale, but they didn't have any problems with me walking in wearing a nerdy t-shirt. I was seated in this cute little booth for 2 with curtains on the side so, if I wanted a more private dinner, I could have it. It was a cute touch! The restaurant also offered patio dining and since it's by the creek, that would have been a downright charming experience were it not the usual Maryland summer. Despite having a bar, the restaurant was respectably quiet and low-key, making it an easy dining experience. I wasn't in the mood for something wild, and this place really hit the nail on the head. My first waiter Kevin, however, was the picture of polite helpfulness. He answered all of my questions, made some wonderful suggestions, and was incredibly pleasant to talk to. I was delighted to find out that this place takes part in DC restaurant week, so I was able to take part in that promotion. Under a suggestion from Kevin, I ordered a glass of their moscato (I wanted something light and sweet), and the wine was so good I brought home a whole bottle. Not really on them, but it does reflect their excellent selection. Dinner itself was delicious. The red pepper soup was refreshing and flavorful, without being too filling. The steak I ordered was cooked to perfection and was flavored in the perfect way to make the actual flavor of the meat shine. The potatoes were both light and fluffy, but also had the little chunks of potato that I prefer in my mashed. The best part was desert. About halfway through my appetizer, Kevin introduced my other waiter, Maddy, who took over after he went home. She was as much of a delight as he was, and made possibly the best recommendation of the night. Desert was this blackberry tart that I did not have room for but could not put down. Gooey and crumbly all at once, with a warm center that was almost caramel-y even though it was fruit based. Topped with a light cream to balance it all out, it was absolutely delicious. I will be thinking of that tart all day tomorrow. The prices on the menu were a little high, but I wouldn't go so far to say they were unreasonable. If I had wanted a cheaper option, I could have gone to any chain restaurant ever. In the grand scheme of downtown Frederick, with it's many small businesses and one of a kind dining experiences, I think this was reasonable. For reference, a lot of meals were between $20 and $30, but a good steak is almost always $30+. Despite the price, I had an exceptional dining experience, and would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for upscale dining, without the upscale requirements.

I was very happy to find amazing service, amazing servers, and even better food! I would highly recommend the steak and Gnocchi! We had the best and friendliest server so shout out to Ian! And thanks for the great experience! (Def coming again)

such a lovely experience! everything from the green tomato fritters to the beet salad to the entrees to the incredible olive oil citrus cake was incredible. fantastic service- shout out to our server with pink hair and cool stretched ears and the host was hella nice too. nobody seemed annoyed or impatient with my deaf and hard of hearing family, even when they wanted to switch tables. can't wait to come back to Fredrick try the rest of the interesting menu options.

Great crab cake Benedict and views of the Carroll Creek area. It's a pleasant experience. Portions were appropriate for the prices and service was spot-on.

We live near the Leesburg WK and go there often but their menu has gotten too pasta centric. The Frederick location has a menu more to our liking and we were not disappointed. Great good, great service!

Ian is the kindest server ever. I’ve been to 27 countries and not seen a server as kind, positive, and lively as him. My family had a lovely time. The house wine was so-so but the cocktails were amazing. I also enjoyed the flat bread and fries. A lovely place for an evening. Highly recommend!!! Hope to visit again. Thank you again Ian. May everything amazing happen to you.

The service and atmosphere were excellent, one of the best places I have been to in recent memory. Our concerns on diet and allergens were taken right at the start. Our server Kevin was gracious and informative, making sure we were more than happy with the experience. While I was only privy to a single wine during my dining experience, given the extensiveness of their wine tasting menu, complete with flights, no one expecting great wine will leave disappointed. The dinner menu was filled with excellent quality dishes. I got the Elk special which was expertly handled, sadly unless they decide to add it to their menu permanently you'll have to pick another dish from their stellar menu. I would recommend this establishment to any diner that cares about fine dining, great food, and fantastic drinks. The pricing is more than reasonable for the high quality of the service and dining provided. I will likely plan a return trip to Frederick for the express purpose of eating here again.

The staff were welcoming and attentive. I had the Barbeque Pork Shoulder. It was delicious! Almost fork tender, juicy, with a delicious hearty sauce. My only suggestion would be to add a couple of roasted carrots to round out the entree. The black beans were yummy, but scant. A vegetable would really complement this entree. The wine fight was very good with decent pour. The mushroom streusel was delicately seasoned which allow the cremini mushrooms to shine. Enjoyed the empanadas. Not the best I’ve had, but tasty. Everything was perfectly cooked. Staff are superb.

Great food with even better service. Food: I have been here over a dozen times and have not had less than very well made and designed dishes. Drink: Great wine selection and the bar staff knows how to make a wide array of mixed drinks at a high level. Service: The best service I have had since moving to the area many months ago. They go over and above each and every time.

This used to be the best restaurant in Frederick and our go-to for anniversaries and birthdays. We loved everything on the menu… before the chef changed. The chef changed within the last year and honestly it’s not the same and the food is not as good. The short rib which used to melt in your mouth now is dryer and not marinated for as long. It also now comes pre sliced and it just tastes bland and the not very good. The quality of certain dishes has changed for the worse. It is very sad to see an excellent restaurant turn into a mediocre one. Luckily their oysters and wine selection is the same. I don’t anticipate coming back like we used to for special occasions. I wish the chef never changed.

Stopped here almost by chance, and omg I’m so glad we did. Cute bar area, outdoor area, and full fancy dining room. The service was impeccable, only to be matched by the cocktails and food. I haven’t been to a restaurant this enjoyable in a long time. We got cocktails, a glass of wine, and the charcuterie plate. The cheese and meats were out of this world delicious. They have a locally sourced beef program that seems robust. Wish I had ordered a steak. Will definitely be visiting again. Wish I lived closer, I’d become a regular.

This weekend we went to get dinner at this amazing establishment. The food was amazing (do not sleep on getting the smoked nuts they are so good). The flights of wine are put together with such thought and are amazing. We both got the filet and beef fat fries and O-M-G is the words about to come out of your mouth when you eat these. Must go here when visiting Frederick.

Loved the shrimp and grits and would recommend it to any and all.

I recently moved to Frederick from a big city. I'm used to lots of dining options. Every time I think I have found a winner in Frederick, it disappoints when I visit again. But not the Wine Kitchen. It consistently delivers outstanding plates and drinks. Plus, the setting on Carroll Creek is very pleasant. I highly recommend it.

Stopped in for a quick bite while walking around downtown on a Sunday. Cocktails and appetizers were amazing. Great hospitality from beginning to end. We will definitely be back for dinner and bring friends.

Nice outdoor seating. We got lucky with a seat right away. Placed our order as soon as we sat down. After 45min they informed us they were out of salmon. Took 1 hr for us to get food. I ordered the beet salad. Was very small portion with literally 3 small slices of chicken and 1 beet cut into cubes and 2 fried Gorgonzola balls. Husband got the burger and said it was good.

I was looking forward to lunch here because I have friends who have eaten at this place. The location on Carroll Creek is great. The rest....meh. We had made a reservation for lunch at 12:45 on a Friday. It was a gorgeous day, but we were told the wait for an outside table would have been 40 minutes (in fact, it was over an hour before anything outside came available; I was watching. Outside seating is first come, first served). So we sat inside in a small booth near the entrance. Our server was pleasant but busy. The first news was that their seafood delivery had not come, so they were out of the crab cake sandwich and the salmon. That was disappointing. My husband ordered the potato bisque, which had a good flavor but a thinner consistency. He described it as watery. I ordered the beet salad ($14) for my appetizer. It was attractively plated, but there was very little to it. The few quarter-sized sliced beets were crunchy (al dente beets?). There were frisee greens and a couple of the little cheese balls. I ordered the shrimp & grits for my main. The dish was tasty enough, but for the $21 lunch portion, there were only three shrimp. As an appetizer or as tapas, it would have been appropriate. My husband ordered the mushroom strudel, which was good and it was a normal portion. The wine choices seemed limited (notwithstanding the name), so we both ordered beer. My Pherm beer was delicious--maybe the best part of lunch at the Wine Kitchen.

The best wine bar I've been to in Maryland. And not just because the wine is good (hint: it's excellent), but becaue the food is supremely good. As my go-to restaurant in Frederick, great wine and great food hits the spot in any weather. The vibe is relaxing and unpretentious, like much of Frederick. The menu is fresh and inventive, with offerings to please any palate. A must-do! Summer 2024 edit: waited at least 45 minutes for an undercooked and inedible chicken sandwich and a wilted brussels sprouts salad. Unacceptable length of time for food to come out of the kitchen.

My wife and I made an impromptu drive from Columbia to Frederick to check out the Carroll Creek River Walk for the first time and to find a place for lunch. We were not familiar with any of the restaurants along the river and, after reviewing The Wine Kitchen’s menu posted in the window, we decided to stay, requesting an outdoor table. The dining area was well shaded and relatively cool compared to nearby areas in the sun. Our server, Angie, greeted us with a smile and was absolutely delightful throughout our meal. She was personable and attentive without being pesky, and provided valuable food, wine, and cocktail suggestions. We ordered the Roasted Mushroom Strudel and the Smash Burger, both of which were exceptional. As we were dining, we saw platters of Cheese & Charcuterie go by, as well as plates of freshly-shucked oysters, all of which looked amazing. We will definitely go back (it’s 40 miles away) for the outstanding food and Angie’s superior customer service.

Our first time visit to The Wine Kitchen was awesome. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our server Wayne was amazing. We loved the passion fruit and raspberry desserts!! We can't wait to return to try some of the other entrees. We had the short ribs and the butcher sampler this time around.

Another great experience for us as returning customers and a first time for friends of ours! Food was excellent, cocktails were great and we never felt rushed like I have at other reservation-based restaurants. Can’t wait to go back!

I am thrilled that the Wine Kitchen is back to its Stellar Service and Meal Preparation. Food presentation was excellent and fresh. The Servers were very attentive too. The new dress is very smart, as well. My quest was thrilled with her first visit. Kudos to management and the Team! See you soon!

What an outstanding restaurant. Our server, Jen, was fantastic. Offered great recommendations which we ordered and enjoyed. Drink menu was awesome, we never find a restaurant with an Albariño or Chenin Blanc on the by the glass menu, so that was such a nice surprise. It was our 13th wedding anniversary and there was a hand written card at our table when we sat down - very nice touch, so classy. We had the best experience and cannot wait to come back!

This place is clearly very popular and has great reviews, but the atmosphere was just ok and the food was pretty underwhelming (except for the dessert which was excellent). Both our meals felt overpriced for the quality of the food.

This is such a great find; seasonal food (best quiche ever) and lovely cocktails. Plus really good staff who seemed to care that their guests were happy. It has a lovely patio overlooking the water and lots of tree shade, plus it is super dog friendly. It was just a delightful place that felt a bit European and v good value too…definitely recommend.

Very small portions at high full portion prices. Steaks were okay but not anything worth repeating. Soup was just some in the bottom of the bowl.

This was my first time here and I was very happy with my experience. The server was very efficient and helpful. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Good was good and I will definitely come back again.

We took a gamble and came in on Friday with no reservations, they turned some of the lounge seating at the bar into a table for us. Food was incredible, cocktails were perfect, couldn't be happier.

Exceptional cocktails expertly made. Delicious, locally-sourced and house-made menu items. Knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff. A unique wine list with a variety of wine flights that allow you to pair wine with your food. Nothing was rushed, everything came out at a comfortable pace. An excellent dining experience.

We were celebrating our anniversary.We were given an anniversary card and complementary sparking wine. Very nice touch! We shared two appetizers-guacamole and citrus chips and empanadas were so good . The angus rib dinner for two was delicious-plenty of food. We ended the night with an ice cream flight. We had outstanding service-the waitress checked on us regularly, but not invasive. It was our first time at the Wine Kitchen. We’ll be back. Thank you so much for a lovely dinner.

First time back in a few years. Best beet salad my wife ever had. Entrees were great. They knew how to make a great Boulevardier. Would have liked a little lower lighting but they did dim it later. Music was odd, some kind of hip rock, didnt fit the venue but not objectionable.

We always enjoy the Wine Kitchen. It is our favorite restaurant in Frederick. Everything is stellar. The drinks, the oysters, and the entrees: short ribs and salmon were excellent, just delicious! The server was so pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere is lovely. It was a bit noisier than usual because it was prime time 7 pm dinner crowd, the place was packed but not to the point of being annoying, it was just vibrant. During the warmer months you can sit outside (first come, first served), and we really enjoy that. We stop for lunch often and then always have creative delicious options. You must go!

We absolutely love getting dinner and brunch at the Wine kitchen, the dining experience is amazing, the food is unique and spectacular and you cannot find a better place to try wines and signature cocktails.

I had a dinner date with my bestie last Wednesday. The restaurant wasn't crowded, we were able to talk freely. Food was great! We got citrys crisp (meh), burger (tasty), gnocchi (amazing), with flights of white and red wines (great). We even ordered the dessert - raspberry tart with dessert wine flight, which was awesome! Service was great, too!

My husband and I stopped in for drinks and an appetizer. We thoroughly enjoyed our fights & the charcuterie board and wonderful service from the staff. Special shout out to Wayne who we had a great conversation with before we left. Looking forward to visiting again during our next trip to Frederick. One other thing to mention, the chairs at the bar are the most comfortable! I try to figure out where to buy them for our home, they are just that comfy!!

What a wonderful dinner! We picked this restaurant based on the location and reviews. The entire experience was incredible. From the flights of wine, to the dinner rolls, the perfectly cooked steak, and finally dessert. Highly recommend the Wine Kitchen for a date night away from the kids! The friendly and knowledgeable staff helped us navigate the wine menu to get pairings that were great with the food.

We haven't been here in a long time, but what a great experience and happy to have returned! We were meeting another couple and arrived about an hour early. We sat at the bar and had two glasses of Seghesio (one of our favorite wines). Excellent service and conversation with Shane. It was fun to watch the team take maticulous care of cleaning and drying the wine glasses. Definitely no spots will be found! Off to dinner we went and enjoyed not only great food, but great wine and service. For dinner we had the Sea Scallops and Wagyu Burger. Cooked to perfection and delicious. To finish off the meal we shared the Raspberry Frangipane Tart. Outstanding. Should have had two, or not shared! Our server was Graham. Really attentive, professional and just great with customer service. Took the time to explain the various wines to us and was just fantastic. Now off to the wines. I love the flights that the Wine Kitchen on the Creek provide. Three glasses with about 2 oz pours to allow you to taste each selection. Cute names for each flight with varying varietals and flavors. Each selection comes with a "card" that explains each wine and gives you great information. If you love a wine, you can purchase a bottle to take home. So, for our dinner we had "Paint the Town Red Flight" which contained several varietials of red wine. We also had "The Other Washington" which was a selection of red and white wines from Washington State. Finally, we finished with the "Cabernet Reserve". The wines were excellent! By the way, they also have Whiskey flights as well. A little something for everyone. Overall a great meal, great wine and great service. I think you should give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I have been to the Wine Kitchen for my birthday and again recently when my mother visited and it's always amazing! The food is always absolutely amazing, the staff is kind and attentive and the restaurant's interior is beautiful. It's always worth going there!

Wine flights are always fun to try out new wines and they had quite a few to offer besides wines by the glass and other drinks and cocktails. The food was good, small lunch menu. I have some current dietary restrictions so I was limited in what I could eat. I had the Vichyssoise which was delicious paired with some yummy lightly toasted bread with a touch of olive oil. My husband has the chicken sandwich with fries and he said it was good. We were fortunate to get a table by the window so we could look out on the “creek.” If I find myself in Frederick again I’d go back.

I have a hearing impairment and I’ve been to this restaurant enough times to know where it’s noisy and to make a special effort in the reservation to note that I have a hearing impairment. When we arrived they gave me two options of a table both on the noisiest areas. They are well aware that the quietest tables aren’t in either of those areas. Those were the only two and it seemed like they were unwilling to make any other accommodation for my disability even though I had specifically requested it in advance and it was as simple as a different table. I’ll probably go back one more time and be a lot more forceful about being unwilling to have bad service and no accommodation for my hearing loss. The only good thing is that I wasn’t wearing my hearing aids last night or I would have had to take them out because it would have been painfully loud.

Everything was great. Scallops, rock fish and tuna tartar tacos.

I love this restaurant. They always treat my husband and I so well. The food is very good. On this visit, my medium steak was slightly overcooked but even so the flavor was amazing. Our waiter, Anthony, was very personable and professional but seemed a little overwhelmed by the number of tables he had, I assume. In my view, the Wine Kitchen is the best restaurant in Frederick.

Love this place. Celebrated a big birthday with loved ones recently. The staff did an amazing job helping with the surprise. Food and drinks were amazing.

We celebrated my son’s 17th birthday here and it did not disappoint! The staff were friendly and attentive - multiple people stopped by to fill our water throughout the evening. The decor was really nice with a variety of textures (wood, brick, fabrics, metal). The food was amazeballs. My son and I had the filet and my husband had the duck. And, because it was a celebration, we got 3 different desserts . The chocolate cake was so good, I dropped my fork. We will definitely be back!

Can’t express enough great things about this restaurant. So warm and inviting as soon as you walk in. Our waiter was very intentive which we appreciated. We ended up starting with the dinner rolls and garlic butter….soooo good. The butter was so soft and full of flavor. My fiancé got the balsamic marinade Denver cut steak with green beans and I got the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes. Both steaks cooked to perfection and the flavor was spot on. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. It’s more pricier but so worth it. Definitely recommend to anyone who’s never been. You won’t be disappointed

Real good food and good atmosphere

Our server (our table was in the partly enclosed area) was excellent - very attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wine. The appetizer (tuna mini tacos) and main food (ribs for two) was very good (as usual). Old fashioned - super. The wine (from Paso Robles) went very well with our food.

The Wine Kitchen is our choice for celebrating a special occasion in a pleasant environment while enjoying outstanding food and service.

My husband has taken me twice to this restaurant and I must say, this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been in. The food, the staff, the place, everything is outstanding. Their food is absolutely delicious!!!!

A favorite Frederick restaurant (I live in DC). The food, service and ambiance are always spot on for casual lunchtime dining. A pretty day and a window table made it more special.

The food was as always spectacular! I do want to highlight the service. Our server was a very knowledgeable and a friendly young lady. The maitre de (sorry about the spelling), a man name Waylon was noteworthy. He has always been polite, respectful, and makes you feel welcome! I was able to observe him all evening, welcoming patrons, and inspecting empty tables before the guests for that table arrived-very thorough! Again, everyone was great! Give a pat on the back to Waylon.

I’ve been enjoying this place for several years. Last night we tried the 3 course Thursday menu option, which included plenty of choices in each of the starter, entree, and dessert categories. All of the cocktails that we ordered were refreshing and enjoyable. The food was great, too! Hayden and the team were on point .. we will be back again soon!

I feel that even by today's standards, the menu is unnecessarily expensive. Not the individual items but the lack of more moderately priced choices.

First time there, may become a place for special events in the future. Wonderful food, wine, and service. Very pleasant evening

The staff was amazing and they were so excited that I was quitting my job as well as my birthday celebration. The only thing I would say, and the only reason I didn't give it total five star review is that I was there two weeks ago on a Wednesday night and had the same dish and the scallop dish was different. So two weeks ago on Wednesday night. It must've been a different chef and that meal was unbelievably great. yesterday's meal was good but the sauce was not the same. My husband's beef sampler one of the beef items was really good and he said the other two weren't that great. So overall the Wednesday night meal a couple weeks ago was better than the Sunday night meal last night except the staff was fantastic last night, and I can't say enough positive things about them.
