This family seems like nice people. The food was salty, but not terrible. But they do not know how to run a restaurant. There were 3 of us, and they were out of something that each of us wanted. My wife's fajitas came out without tortillas, and it was several minutes before the tortilla's came out while her food got cold, even after I asked for them. They served my food 5 minutes before the rest of the table, so I either had to eat impolitely, or watch my food get cold while I waited.

The food was awesome. Family owned restaurant and the cook and/or owner came out and was showing our kids how to dance. Made it a really fun night for everyone

Excellent authentic Mexican food! Very fresh ingredients and quite tasty. Unlike the other typical Mexican restaurants in the area, the food is prepared fresh, so it takes a little longer, but it is worth the wait. I really appreciated the homemade tortilla chips with fresh pico instead of stereotypical salsa .. highly recommend!

You'll see the big sign for the place that was here before, but you're in the right place, don't worry! Went in planning to do takeout, but decided to do dine-in. Honestly, our ONLY criticism is that some decor would probably help liven up the place a bit. Other than that, experience was great. Wide variety of MX sodas to try, though we both went with the classic bottled Mexican Coke. Chips for the appetizer are obviously fried in house, and the pico was crisp and fresh. I got the Quesadilla Asada, and it's the best I've had in the area since the La Luna restaurant changed hands a while back. Steak was cut thin and crispy, and the portion was big enough I could take half home. Partner got the Tacos el Pastor, which I had a bit of to try and it also tasted flavorful. We didn't know about the flan or elote/esquites and my partner has missed getting those back home, so we'll definitely be returning in the future. 🙂

The best Lenguas I've ever had. Very tender and flavorful and the portions were very generous. I was stuffed after 3 tacos and they were so good I ordered a barbacoa quesadilla for tomorrow's lunch. It didn't make it that far. I took one look and scarfed that down too. It was even better than the tacos. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Tierra Caliente has a peaceful atmosphere, filling food, and great service. If you are ever in the Eau Claire area and looking for food that tastes fresh, then you need to pay them a visit!

Went to check out the latest incarnation of Mexican restaurants at the Texaco Drive location in Eau Claire last evening. My first impression of the restaurant was that nothing has really changed. Same sign, same basic building and exterior. Absolutely no frills interior. But, that's where things change. Don't judge this book by its cover! The food and service was outstanding! The menu is smaller compared to other local Mexican joints, but it does have the staples including burritos, chimichangas, nachos, tortas, quesadillas, taco salad, fajitas, homemade tamales, hard and soft tacos and of course, rice and beans. Each can be cusomized with a different meat like chicken, barbacoa, steak, tongue, shrimp and pork. They do bring out complimentary extra crispy and crunchy fried flour tortilla chips and super fresh Pico. You can ask for a few of their made in-house hot sauces as well. I ordered the carnitas nachos and my girlfriend ordered a chimichanga with asada. The chimichanga was literally the size of a brick! It was HUGE and packed with meat, cheese and rice and smothered in a white queso with a bit of a spicy kick. It also came with a genereous plate of beans and a cup of fresh Pico on the side. My nachos were a giant mountain of fresh fried flour tortilla chips layered with tons of delicious pork and queso and topped with shredded green lettuce and fresh Pico. There was enough food on the table to feed an entire family. You should come hungry and ready to eat. The portions are ginormous and the food is delicious. Expect to take home leftovers! Again, please don't be fooled by the exterior or location. This place is legit and you will be glad you checked it out!

The food was amazing! Portions are LARGE, and you WILL have leftovers! I ordered the chimichangas. I loved them. Quiet ambience, and no music. It was great for conversation!

Best Mexican restaurant around.

My husband and I have been going here, since they opened. Really love the nachos. I just tried the tacos yesterday and fell in love with them. Yum.. Very nice owners and would highly recommend. This is the best and most authentic Mexican food we have found in the area. They now even have beer and liquor.

This was our first visit and we will return. Chips were served with pico which was fresh and delicious. We ordered the pork rib special which we saw in a Facebook post. The sauce was delicious with a nice amount of heat and the ribs were tender. The waitress was efficient, sweet and kind.

Very very slow, food came out at different times, underwhelming food, very dry chicken as if it sat out all day. Hoping this place stays in business but had to be honest in my review. Will try again maybe in the future. Hope they can change the service for next time.

We came to Eau Claire for the marathon wknd and needed to refuel on our way back home. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, bringing our kid a booster seat unprompted and taking some time to chat about their restaurant. The menu is small, but mighty and the green hot sauce, absolutely delicious. We left refuled and happy and trust they'll have great success this coming year so we can stop by again next marathon weekend!

We visited Tierra Caliente for dinner last night. The vibe is a little weird when you walk in, but I attribute that to it being fairly new. We got chicken and pork tamales, a Barbacoa chimichanga, and al pastor tacos. We finished with some house made flan (made by our wonderful waitress!) All of our dishes were DYNAMITE! beautifully seasoned and wonderfully cooked. They brought out two different hot sauces (may be house made, but I'm not sure) and a bottle of sour cream, which I thought was a great touch as well. The chimichanga wasn't quite what I expected, it seemed grilled or pan fried, not deep fried, but still delicious! It was also MASSIVE! The portion sizes all around are great, especially for the prices. I absolutely will be going back. Editing to add my recent experience. (4/19/23) I got the barbacoa torta, and it's the torta of my dreams! This is what every torta should be. The nachos are huge and could easily be split between 4 people or more as an appetizer. Chips are made in house, and the toppings are well seasoned and generous. The service is great and the food is fantastic!

Fresh delicious food, awesome friendly service, great place!

My husband and I decided to try this place out after seeing all the great reviews on Google and we were unfortunately very disappointed. Food was overpriced for what is was. Tacos were $4.50 each, I’ve been to nicer restaurants with tacos cheaper than that. Overall, the quality just wasn’t there, regarding the food and just the restaurant itself. We were both starving but neither of us finished our meal. We were also not feeling well the rest of the night. We will not be back.

This is a hidden gem that everyone needs to frequent! I had taken my 9yo,8yo, and 10mo kiddos with me as I had heard nothing but great reviews and let me tell you, the reviews are accurate! The atmosphere is inviting and we were welcomed as soon as we walked in! The owner brought over a booster seat for my 10mo as soon as we choose a booth to sit in! We were not rushed to order, but was met with promptness when it was time to order! My questions were answered with kindness and my 9yos ability to talk your ear off was met with friendliness instead of the normal annoyance he typically gets at other places. We ordered the fruit punch Mexican soda and we all agreed it was delicious and refreshing! Now the food.... I can't even describe how delicious the food is. My 9yo ordered the Supreme Nachos, minus jalapeños and he inhaled them, literally. This boy has never eaten anything faster in his life. He normally eats one thing at a time (yes, even with nachos) but he ate the mountain of nacho heaven just as it had come out! My 8yo decided to try the torta and a side of rice. She also inhaled hers and at one point forgot to remove some of the foil before taking a bite 😅. I ordered a 2nd side of rice and a cheese quesadilla for my 10mo not expecting him to take more than a couple of bites..... Well he decided to follow in his siblings footsteps and ate 1/3 of the quesadilla and about 1/2 a cup of the rice. Lastly I had the barbacoa chimichanga. I also inhaled mine without even realizing it! I normally don't like Mexican rice, however, I will admit, I've never tasted better rice in my life. (I ate half my babies rice). We also ordered flan as we've never had it and again, knocked our socks off! It was very rich and we split one slice between us all, which ended up being the perfect amount! If you haven't gotten the point yet, the food is phenomenal, the atmosphere is phenomenal, and the owners are the best! Run don't walk to support a small family owned business that will not disappoint!

I was passing through with my family, and we spent the night in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We saw this restaurant and decided to try it out. It was the best Mexican food we have had in a long time! We will definitely remember this for future visits through Wisconsin!

We didn’t know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was so delicious - we will definitely be back. Never underestimate the importance of high a quality pico de gallo!!! Yummy!

I’ve now eaten here twice and easily rank Tierra Caliente among the best Mexican restaurants, if not THE best, in the Chippewa Valley. I’ll be going back regularly. Nevermind that the walls could use a coat of paint; you’re not going for the ambience, you’re going for the food. The sauces and the queso are all homemade. Whoever is cooking the meat is a master. The carnitas torta was unforgettable. The shrimp fajitas were spectacular. My kids are maniacs for pastor tacos and they both declared these the best they’ve had.

We wanted to try a new place and this place had a very good review, so we decided to go. Their tacos were excellent, the best in the area, I think. I love that they have variety of meat to choose for your taco and each taco is topped with plenty of meat and other fresh topping. I would give 5 stars for their tacos. Our table of four ordered three tacos, one chimichanga, one California Brito, one pork tamale, and one nachos. The portion was so big, we took half of everything home for later. The tamale was a bit dry and not to my liking, but everything else tasted good. But if I go back, I'll definitely order more tacos.

THE FOOD. I think this is one of the best plates of pastor tacos in the area. Portions are huge, their fresh fried chips are dense and flavorful. The queso is bomb, making the nachos delicious with really hot jalepenos. The torta was talked about for weeks! Fresh ingredients, and this family is working hard.

The food was excellent, well seasoned, good portions, and fairly priced. The service was very good, with a warm, cheerful server who was attentive and pleasant. I will return and have recommended this restaurant to family.

Honestly a great place, we got the taco salad with pastor and asada nachos. Both were big portions and tasted delicious, and got the homemade flan for desert. Definitely recommend the food here. On top of that our server was very sweet and made us feel very welcomed and taken care of.

Huge, delicious taco salad. Has rice and beans at the bottom, which was unusual. Ordered it w pastor meat, and it was spicy! The shell it comes in was great! The table gets pico instead of salsa, with fresh chips. Three sauces are served in bottles (green salsa, red, and sour cream). Server was kind and attentive. Tamales were great! Forgot to take a pic of those. Ordered pastor taco and carne asada taco - those were also huge portions and delicious!

Great family owned Mexican food made to the highest standards of home cooking. The Al Pastor was amazing. Some of the best I have ever had. Friendly staff and fast service. This place is right off the interstate and would be a great stop in the wasteland of corporate chain food places. Atmosphere is a 5 due to the honesty of the food and staff. Not fancy at all, but true to the style of great Mexican food. Highly recommended!

This place was awesome sauce. I really had a great meal here. Arrived late and was starving, they had my steak quesadilla out in minutes and routinely offered me chips and salsa, sour cream, red and green salsa, etc. Would surely recommend to anyone. Very authentic!

Very good food and large portions

We arrived at open on a Saturday. There was only one other couple there. Ordered a burrito and my fiance ordered the nachos. My burrito came out 5 minutes before her nachos and was luke warm on one side and ice cold on the other. Her nacho portion was huge and looked great but they kept using a microwave during the prep of the food...and you could tell. The food tasted old and I spent 4 lovely sessions in the rest room purging it from my body. My fiance took longer but got sick to her stomach by the end of the night. Shame. Also beware of all of these reviews they all have only one other review so probably just friends and family because it doesn't mirror the experience you're going to have. That aside the staff was friendly and that's the only positive takeaway I have from our experience.

Was spending a night next door at the AmericInn and the proximity alone made it awesome. The portions were large and the food was amazing! Definitely will be stopping by again when I’m driving through the area.

This place was fantastic! Went with a large group an hour before closing. They were some of the kindest and attentive people ever! The Taco salad was PHENOMENAL. And the steak… oh my goodness so excellent. The menu may seem a little limited and pricey, but the flavor is truly unmatched. Well worth it! Hands down one of the best Mexican places I’ve been to.

I was in town on business and staying next door and thought I would try this place. I had some of the best tacos I have ever had and everything was home made by the family! I was alone and even had a great chat with the owner who kept me company with some great stories. Highly recommend this place and will be back again!

We ordered takeout from here tonight. I ordered a taco salad and it was delicious. My husband ordered the 3 authentic tacos with 1 pastor, 1 carnita, and 1 asada which also wasdelicious. Very good portions and the workers are very friendly.
