Good food, and if you try the hibachi table, you will have yourself a good time. The only trouble I experienced is today (Saturday, May 4th at approximately 1:45 pm). The hostess said to please hold. I waited for about 10 minutes on the phone and decided to give a call back. When I did, the phone rang once or twice and then the call ended. After that the voicemail stated something that the mailbox is full and that it is not receiving messages at this time. I tried the number half a dozen times and checked twice to see if it was the correct phone number. Who is the rude girl with half blond half black long hair who is the hostess? Edit: even though the service is not up to par, the sushi is probably now the best sushi in the Port Richey area.

Was not very clean. Surfaces were sticky like they had not been cleaned in a while. F good was good, but nothing like other Hibachi resteraunts. Our chef said store keeps tips that are automatically placed on bills. If that is so, I would not work there. I know I will probably not be back. Just did not get a good vibe from the place.

We came here for the first time for my husband’s birthday. Upon arrival the greeter was nice. As we followed her to our table I noticed that although it looked like they wiped the tables down there were still areas that had pieces of rice etc. I was turned off right off the bat but my husband insisted we sat down. Once sitting, I set my elbow in the table to look at the menu but the table was super sticky. I had to go the bathroom to wash my arm since it was sticky. As we were waiting for our cook I looked around and saw little pieces of food on the walls. I was so done after that but my husband really had his heart set on trying the food so I stayed. The food? It actually was not bad. The cook was nice and so was the staff. If they would only give the place a thorough cleaning they would’ve gotten a solid 4 stars out of me. Cleanliness is important. How can I trust it is clean in the kitchen where we cannot see, when it is not clean where we can see. The food was fine. The place needs a cleaning. Until then I won’t be going back.

First we made reservations and still waited over half an hour to be seated and people who were seated after us were served before us. So reservations are a waste of time. The hibachi grill was great and our chef was very entertaining and fun our waitress was also wonderful. The hibachi was reasonably priced The sushi was awful. It was served falling apart. I couldn't even find the eel in mine. I don't feel it was worth what they charged

I’m almost done with giving Tonbos my money. Especially in this economy and spending a minimum of $70…. Sometimes they close the kitchen up to 40 min before their closing time due a “slow night”. Twice I was not able to even get take out. Tonight I was fortunate however they still gave me vegetables which im allergic to mushrooms. I ordered the dinner for 2 ($73) and specifically ordered mine without veg and substitute noodles. It comes with dessert which I ordered two fried cheesecake. I left for 10 min, came back and grabbed my food. Drove home to Spring Hill (20 min away) to find vegetables in my food, no fries cheesecake because they “turned the fryers off”. You are completely insane if you think I’m going to pay over $70 for this and the kicker is I can’t even eat this. I am beyond pissed and probably won’t be back.

This was our 3rd visit and very disappointed. The air conditioner was not working. It was set on 70 and was reading 81. Not good when your sitting around the grill. The grill we were seated at stopped working twice. So our chef had to finish cooking our food at the grill behind him. Mind you in front of newly seated customers. Our chef was great,did what he could with what he had to work with, and kept apologizing. Totally not his fault. When we finally got our food and started eating,we get a strong smell of fabulous cleaner. Like who uses such a strong smelling cleaner when you have customers eating. On a good note,our waitress,and chef were awesome!!!! Food was delicious!!! Won't be back till the owner takes some pride in his business and fixes these issues.

The waiter got my order wrong. He forgot to put in my sushi order. The napkins where sticky. We made reservations and got put on the side to where we are not even apart of the hibachi table. The waiter was stephin. I had to wait an extra 10 minutes for my sushi order after I already eaten my food.

My party visited here on a weeknight when restaurant wasn't busy. The food was overpriced for the quality. The staff was mediocre. One of our meals came out incorrect and staff wasn't willing to fix the mistake. I had high hopes but I won't be visiting again.

We are always looking for a new place to take our Italian family. At 101, 94, and 91, they can be very selective. They enjoyed the food, the service AND the show! So we will be back. The family enjoyed the shrimp, and noodles. We had chicken and steak with rice. Everything was well cooked and our cook was very entertaining and proficient. The place is comfortable and clean. We sat at the hibachi, but the rest of the seating areas looked nice. We will be back!!

Last three times service has sucked. Getting our drinks (water) after our food arrives. Young staff do not check on you at all. Food has gone down hill severely. Salads are not fresh lettuce is soggy and wilted and they are cutting corners with sushi. Small amount of shrimp, non existent avocado ect. I’ve been going there for years and each time it’s worse. The owner use to be more present, leaving things to young staff unchecked is costing him customers.

New staff behind sushi bar seem to lack enthusiasm and effort. The roll quality just seems to be overall lacking lately, and questionable rice quality doesn't help. Staff in general seem disinterested and as though no one wants to be there. Slower business is no excuse, if anything you'd want to put forth more effort into maintaining quality to preserve your present clientele, when business is slow. I've gone here for years and don't wish to stop but the vibes have been off as of late. Additionally, some of those hibachi ventilation hoods definitely need to be cleaned.

We had a very nice time eating here because the food was delicious and the hibachi chef was skilled, fun, and personable. Everything that had to be done right was done right. That said, there were some things that could be improved. I was not impressed by the host and some staff who seemed to be distracted and not well put-together -not a good look. Also, the restaurant could use a makeover to add a little sophistication and ambiance. All in all, we were very happy, because as I said, the food was delicious and the hibachi chef was great. Also, we were very pleased with the sushi. Our server was very careful about taking our order regarding our food allergies. She was very attentive. Everything that had to be done right was, in fact, done right. The rest are just little things, but little things matter, too. Won't stop me from coming back.

**note to anyone with seafood allergies** we just ate there. 04/07/2024 at 7pm. We specified to the waitress and hibachi chef multiple times my husband has a seafood allergy. They validated with us that the seafood would be cooked last. Which it was. Yet, my husband still had an allergic reaction. Luckily, my husband is not deathly allergic to seafood. However, I wanted to leave this review to anyone who is allergic as well. They must not keep their seafood and meat in the back separate. Or there are levels of cross contamination. Beware!! Don’t take the chance with eating here. On a less important note, I have been going to Tonbo for years. They must be going down hill, you walk in and the place smells gross. The staff also all have terrible attitudes. Unfortunately will not be going back. What a shame. Off to Kawa it is.

Food was good, as we have eaten at Tonbo for the last eleven years at least a few times a year. This time dishes were dirty, and the waitress was terrible. She wasn't attentive just dropping the food and running. Had to ask her back as she was turning away for sauces, to go items. No refills, or napkins and the price on the menu was different then the price given. Last time for us. Good luck in the future.

Tonight I had a great dinner here and the customer service was great!! I did want to say that I have worked in the food industry for years myself and I did want to point out that I did notice a rather upset customer beside me, who seemed to be outraged beyond belief. I felt really bad for the manager and the staff as they were being kind and asking the lady what they could do to make it right. Amazing hardworking people like the ones at TONBO do not deserve to deal with a customer so rash. There was no settling her down. You’re doing great Tonbo team! Don’t let that one customer bring you down!!

This place is sooo good! Esp if you get the noodles instead of rice. A little pricey still but cheaper than the other ones. The hibachi chefs are hilarious and really know what they're doing! The food was superb and the portion sizes were beyond satisfying. Gave a 4 star because the staff, however- the host and whoever makes the reservations over the phone, was rude and dismissive. We waited over an hour after our reservation time to even be seated at a table, and it was so late then that we were all starving. We will be back, the chef and the flavor of the food won us over but definitely plan on making a reservation and arriving an hour or 2 earlier than when you'd actually like to eat. Kind of put a damper on our 13 yr olds birthday having to wait until 9 pm to eat and our reserved time was 7 but it all worked out in the end I guess..

Sad to say that when the owner is not there service is horrible. The check out guy and Maui are always amazing but the female manager is on a power trip and was and is so rude she kept Complaining about the kidsmeals I was purchasing for my kids and grandbabies and refusing to let us choose how we wanted our meat. Never have I had that issue. I have been a customer for years but this is too much and didnt put utensils sauce or anything we asked for. Again sad that its when owner is not there.

Lunch teppanyaki is a good deal. If you're at a normal table as opposed to at the hibachi grill the food is inconsistent in terms of flavor. It never is bad, but meal to meal can be noticeably different. Sushi is fresh and good. Hibachi grill seats stay pretty full and can involve a long wait if you don't have a reservation.

Walked in with a reservation for 7pm, sat down and waited 40 minutes so other people could fill the table. Then they moved us to the middle of the table, near a different grill where we wouldn’t be able to even see our own food getting made, because other people near us had requested a certain cook. We told them we didn’t request that cook and asked if he would be cooking in front of us or on the other grill, he said the other one. Then he said sorry and walked away. The whole point of going was to get the experience of seeing our food being made in front of us, not watching other peoples food be cooked, while ours is cooked off to the side. So we ended up leaving and going to Kawa hibachi down the street. 5 stars for that place, way way better. Would not recommend going to this place.

My wife and I had 7pm reservations last night (02/13/2024) for the hibachi experience. We arrived just prior to our reservation time, and were told that there is only one chef working and that it would be a bit of a wait. It was recommended that we sit at the bar while we wait, and so we did. While we were greeted almost immediately once we sat at the bar, I ordered a diet soda and my wife ordered a water (later on she ordered a cabernet). It took a considerable amount of time for us to receive our drinks. There were also ZERO napkins at the bar. After a half hour wait, we were then escorted to the hibachi table. Every hibachi that I have ever gone to including Tonbo, we were given soup, salad, rice, noodles, vegetables, and proteins of our choosing. Never before was I asked to choose between soup or salad, I choose salad, and I asked if I wanted Ranch or Italian dressing (in a Japanese style restaurant?), once I received my salad, I noticed the lettuce was mostly brown (no expediter?), asked to choose between rice and noodles (which never happened before), and while the chef was really good and entertaining my noodles tasted off, maybe a bit old and a bit crunchy. We were never offered spicy mayo, just yum yum sauce. I also felt we were rushed out after our dinner. Definitely not worth the $75 I paid for dinner. The inside felt run down and dingy. We will not be back, as of now, I'd rather drive to Spring Hill or Tampa to get hibachi.

Unfortunately my car broke down while I was picking up my order one day and I explained the situation to them. Asked if I can pay by card or have the order delivered and was told no. I have been using my boyfriends phone for ordering takeout since. They told me I wasn’t able to place an order unless I came in and payed for it first. Used my boyfriends phone like I have 10 times prior with my name associated with both phone numbers. Told me I had to pay over the phone in order to place an order.. awful service. Have came in to pick up my order and no one was around several times. Had to call them while I was inside the restaurant for someone to come up to the front. Would not recommend going there.

The food was great, the sushi was great, the cook was the great. The server (Stephen) was SOOOO bad and he wasnt even a little apologetic for how terrible he clearly was. And then to have an auto 20% tip added to the check? On 6 peoples checks?! I wonder if thats why he couldn't care less about good service bc he knew he would have auto gratuity. Absolutely terrible and won't be back. Also to add, the place was so filthy. The floors were sticky, the tables were sticky, the kids high chair was so dirty and sticky mine and my daughters hands were black after touching the high chair.

This place is filthy and I have no idea how they have not been shut down. The bathroom should tell you all you need to know about their kitchen. The napkins are sticky the menus are dirty and it tastes like they soak their shrimp in bleach. I’m shocked the health dept hasn’t shut them down .If the staff spent half the amount of time cleaning as they do chatting and on their phones hmmm it may be a little cleaner disgusting place.

Edit: Another delicious dinner in the books. Love the service and atmosphere. My husband and I each had a combination of meats. He had chicken, steak and scallops. I had shrip, scallops and steak. The seating was VERY tight. I ended up needing to swap places with my husband because I am able to use chopsticks with either hand. They should have pulled one seat out and everyone would have been more comfortable.

Okay so I overall I'll give 4 stars, the employees were friendly and the food has always been good, however there was a mishap that I'd hope to see avoided in the future. I ordered a sashimi dinner to go, got some sauces with it, as someone usually would all the sauces were in a bag and the dinner in a large container, however the sauce containers you have ATM are complete garbage, the lids don't lock down nearly enough to hold liquids, and so out of the 6 containers I had. All the ones that could leak did, because they were all in a bag together stacked 2 high some easily fell over and immediately began leaking. I called and spoke with someone so that you could be made aware of the containers issues, surprisingly I was told you have actually gotten a few complaints about them recently. I'm surprised because I'd hope you'd take measures (seeing as you are aware) to avoid this till you get a better shipment in, such as putting the sauces in another large plastic container or bagging 2 at a time non-stacked. Please talk with everyone there it's such a simple thing that can cause so many issues, think, what if that had leaked all over someones car seats, maybe ruined some clothes? I didn't drop or carry the bag erratically otherwise I'd know this was my fault. If the manager wants to reach out I have video showing the lids and their faulty behavior. This isn't fair to you guys and it's not fair to the customer.

Waited at least ten minutes for a waiter to come to our table. Finally the host took our drink order, but a waiter never came to even greet us at our table. The place was almost completely empty, even the hibachi side was bare, so they definitely weren’t too busy to wait on us. The table next to us was the only other diner table with guests and they were checked on three times before we decided to just leave. I’ve never had this problem at Kobe’s so I’ll stick with them.

Didn't actually stay to eat but the menu looked amazing. I was on the fence about staying because the AC was broken and it was very warm inside. Ultimately I left because the desk staff completely ignored me for the 8 minutes I stood there. Not even a hello. Sushi was okay. Raggedy furniture. I stopped by the bar one day and was grossed out by the infestation of fruit flies. Clean your bar. This makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like in the back of the house. I will not be back any time soon.

Love Tonbo, best hibachi place around! We went yesterday and our chef Jay was funny and friendly as always. Sushi is awesome and drinks are great, too! It's a little pricey, though, so we usually save it for special occassions.

I ordered crab Rangoon and an egg roll. Both were super greasy, soggy. The egg rolls were basically hollow with a small amount of something very mushy, super greasy. I tried 1/2 egg roll and 1 of the Rangoon. Unfortunately this was a take out order on my lunch break.

Recommend. One of the best places around. I eat here when we can afford it. Not that it’s expensive at all, but you know how it is with three kids! The food is right on. Covid considering, they’ve done a great job maintaining quality over the last few years. I’ve been many times, if that says anything. My wife and I have eaten at the bar a couple of times and had a great dinner. I’ve had lunch at the sushi bar - serious yum. The sushi is good. I probably should have mentioned that first. With whomever I’ve been with, whether it’s just my wife or the whole family, there’s sushi consumed with delight. They take the kitchen seriously here. I appreciate it. Pro Tip: Get a tempura appetizer IMMEDIATELY, then take your time with the large menu.

It was okay, my ex fiancé brought me here once. My first time going to a restaurant like this. All I remember is how badly they over cooked the lobster! It was like one of those super balls that bounce and take off like a rocket if you throw it hard enough. Not impressed and not worth the money.

The worst hibachi place I've ever been to. The waitress was barely around. The cook was more concerned with customers walking in than with the food infront of him. At one point, he actually walked away from the stove top to greet the new people walking in as if he was the host. He also cooked the seafood first and then asked if anyone is allergic after already contaminating it. The expensive filet was disgusting. It had a bad aftertaste and it wasnt cut up evenly. Big pieces mixed with smaller cuts. It cooked oddly. No goodygoody was offered, only yummyyummy. No warm cloths to wash up before dinner as if the pandemic is still happening. The biggest complaint from me has to be the cook acting like a host tho....that was the cherry on top. Dont bother going here. I highly recommend Kobe's in Clearwater. It's worth the drive.

Called to make a reservation for my birthday tonight for 3 people. Asked for a 6:00 reservation and they said they couldn’t take us until 7:00 because they had a large party at 6:00 and wanted to space things out. Not a problem. Arrived right at 7:00. We immediately noticed the large party and that they JUST started cooking their food. It wasn’t until 7:20 someone finally took our order. I asked to have my 6 year olds chicken nuggets expedited. At 7:40 the large party was STILL having their food cooked, and my kid’s food still hadn’t shown up from the kitchen. The assistant manager then told me there was only one teppanyaki chef and it would probably be another 20 minutes or so before he even got started on our table. Had we known when we made the reservation that there was only one chef, we absolutely never would have gone there tonight. A few minutes before 8:00, when my kids chicken nuggets finally came out, we asked for a box and decided to leave. I’m sure the food is good, and would have loved to try it, but unfortunately I will never attempt to dine here again. Ordered Hibachi Express takeout on the way home. Same food. Better service.
