Its tucked away behind some shops and a gas station. But don't let the location fool you, this place is legit. The staff was so friendly. The interior dining experience temporarily makes you forget you're even in Michigan. Complete with a comprehensive menu for any craving. The sushi looked incredible, but we were on a ramen/udon quest. We used to drive to Ann Arbor for authentic noodles. The broth here was so spicy and rich, it's going to be our goto now. Looking forward to going back

Such an amazing time! I went with a large group and the staff were very kind about it. The food was very fresh. We got edamame, and Octopus Balls. For entrees I had Tonkatsu Ramen. It was amazing! The others got some rolls, The Mermaid, The Dragon, Lobster Super roll, and something with shrimp. The presentation was beautiful! Will visit again, it’s about 15-20 dollars a person.

I’m a frequent customer of Umami, and I have to say that this place is one of the most underrated restaurants in the area period. Hands down best sushi for the price, and the owner usually waits on us which is a bonus because of his stellar customer service. This place has got something really good going on, so to anyone reading reviews to help guide their choices for dinner, this one is a must have.

Cute place tucked away in a little strip. The food is wonderful. We had sushi, cucumber salad, chicken teriyaki, and the takoyai. Everything was delicious, the service is great.

It was a great experience loved it all. The food was so good best ramen I've had and sushi. I've never liked sushi until I went here. The service was absolutely amazing they were all so kind. So if your thinking on going you should definitely go. Also I recommend the tonkotsu ramen.

It was great! Shaun gave us a history lesson, he was the best server ever! The food was perfect, it had balanced flavors of heat, sweet, umami, salty, and sour. Great portion sizes and the atmosphere was excellent. Family friendly and priced well. The presentation of the food was as excellent as the quality of the cook. Octopus was great.

Great food don’t get me wrong but the service is iffy! They have wonderful seating and scenery. I ordered spicy noddles and it had been a bit spicy and the guy wouldn’t take it back. It sat untouched and still made it seem like a hassle to “fix it” for us. He ended up leaving it on the bill and i felt it was extremely rude!

Second time coming here and still as good as the first time! You can never go wrong in this place - whether you are craving for a Japanese or Korean food, they serve them both really good! It's one of the best sushi places that I've been to. I gotta say that the customer service at this restaurant is top-notch. They really help you out and suggest what's the most popular items. All the food came pretty quickly. One of my favourite items was the Shumai and the Benedict roll.

We stopped here two years ago when we first moved into our Wixom home. We loved the food here! The owner was very involved with the staff and everything that was going on in the restaurant. The atmosphere is also amazing and very serene. Highly recommend eating here. It has been our go-to sushi place since then. We absolutely love it!

I placed an order here for chicken katsu and shrimp tempura on January 15th. I read some reviews and thought I'd give this place a shot and saying that I'm disappointed isn't a strong enough expression of my discontent. I'll start with the Shrimp Tempura. If you're going to us frozen shrimp, that's fine but maybe actually cook them? When the food arrived to my house the shrimp were still frozen...in the food. So yeah there's $10 wasted. Then we have the chicken katsu which was just awful. Chicken katsu is supposed to have a crispy thin panko crisp. This is achieved from frying it, just like their menu will have you believe they do. It's a relatively easy process and provides delicious results.Except they don't do that. They use a frozen chicken patty with no coating whatsoever that looks like it's been boiled. It's disgusting. It is absolutely not in any way, shape or form chicken katsu. And, cherry on top, it was cold. So disappointing. The soup was fine. Standard but fine. My attempt for a refund was rebuffed. I can not say this enough: the food was awful. Period. And for what I received it was VERY expensive. Bottom line? Gross, inedible food. Avoid.

We have been coming here as a family and we love the service and quality of food. I personally enjoy their udon noodles but their nigiri and rolls are fantastic too!

I haven’t been here since new ownership 2 years ago and I was blown away by how good my food and service was. The spicy ramen and Mexican roll are 10/10. It put a smile on my face the whole time.

First time here since new ownership, let me just say I’m blown away. The owner is amazing and super kind, the food is to die for. The sushi is on point and they have an awesome selection of ramen with all the fixings.

Had lunch here with my wife (repeat visitors). We tried a bunch of new to us rolls and loved them all. Had a hard time picking a favorite! Wonderful lunch date and service was excellent as always.

Delicious food. We ordered The Rocky roll and it was on point. No need for wasabi or soy sauce. I had the ramen which was so comforting and had good flavor. My husband had the bibimbap which was also very delicious. The staff/owner was very friendly. Overall we had a great experience. We will be back again!

This sushi is as good as, or better, than the fresh west coast sushi I grew up with. They do not serve commercial soy sauce, instead they make their own sauce! The server recommended the Tokyo roll, and I’m so glad he did. Not only was it one of the best rolls I’ve ever had, we learned the story behind their sushi chef’s creation. Ask them about it!

I ordered the miso ramen, a new menu item, and loved it! I’ll order this again. I have ordered various sushi rolls here over the years and have been pleased by the quality of the sushi every time. Bibimbap was also excellent, especially because Sean, a very helpful employee, demonstrated how to properly prepare to eat it from its hot stone bowl. The staff here are among the most friendly of any restaurant I’ve visited. The sushi chefs always smile and greet me when I enter, many of the employees make the effort to remember my name, and even the youngest employees are polite and interested in practicing excellent customer service. I visit Umami because I am hungry, but I always leave satisfied socially, as well.

The service here is the highlight. Love the presentation of the sushi. Tried a variety of items and no complaints. Will continue to try other items here. One of the best sushi spots in the area.

This place has great sushi and service. The rice was perfect on my last trip. If there’s any complaint it’s that the rolls with jalapeños could have been spicier, but that’s how jalapeños are sometimes. Kudos for them bringing back the old Kensington roll as O.G. Kensington.

The new ramen is truly outstanding; be sure to give it a taste. The staff is also exceptionally warm and friendly.

Excellent little sushi place! This last visit, they accidentally delivered our Edamame to the wrong table, but they apologized at least 3 times. The sushi was great and the prices are pretty good.

Solid hole-in-the-wall Japanese/Korean food, decent at its price point and location. I would stay away from some of the non sushi offerings - the tonkatsu was terrible, for instance, with middling sauce and very dry pork.

Best Japanese food I've had outside of Japan

The restaurant has beautiful decor and ambiance. The sushi is fantastic, with the Tokyo Roll being my favorite. Striped Tiger Roll and Crunchy Jalapeño Roll were also really good. The PLA (purple lemonade) was a suprising treat. I highly recommend it. This is my #1 Sushi place.

Absolutely delicious. I wish I could afford to eat here every week. Their rolls were so good, one of them gave me chills. Wasn't a fan of the snow white roll. But the salmon one I had was incredible. I would go back just for that.

We had the Unami and scorpion roll, bibimbap with ginger salads, served with kimchi. Best I’ve had. Seriously!! Great service and ambience. I ordered two sushi rolls and a bibimbap with tofu online for pickup. The sushi rolls were fresh and lightly fried in tempura batter. I did not try the bibimbap but was told that it was not very flavorful or had as many vegetables compared to others. The portion sizes are decent and we were not too hungry but if we were starving in the future, we would need to order more food.

Phenomenal. This place is a must for sushi lovers. Honestly, our expectations were exceeded in every way. Incredible food… which is most important. The sushi rolls were so good we ordered a second round. We tried the Tokyo, the Sunday Morning, the Blaze Salmon Roll, and the Dragon roll after an appetizer of edamame. The wait staff was attentive, never left a water glass near empty, offered us an accommodating table, and even placed the plates at each setting with perfection and charm. Well done Umami.

Wow! Highly impressed with the quality and freshness of the sushi especially since this is a Michigan restaurant. I live in Florida so I'm used to fresh seafood and I'm quite surprised to find the same quality here in a state so far from the ocean. The service was amazing and everyone is super friendly and nice! Highly recommended!

Loved it, the place tricks the eye, it doesn't seem much from outside but inside is pretty nice and clean and the staff and manager were super great, also, all the food was really tasty, well served and couldn't be fresher, we tried sushi, spring rolls and bibimbap and everything was delicious.

This restaurant is our favorite sushi nearby, but recently they expanded and they do ramen and other noodle dishes I highly recommend. The atmosphere makes you think you're in rural japan.

Spicy seafood hot stone bibimbap is great!!!

Atmosphere was great, my food was cold and overcooked with cold sauce ontop. They did ask several times if everything was alright and I never mentioned. I'm sure they would have fixed it for me. I've had a stomach bug a few days after I went, but it could be unrelated. Overall I like the place and the people are friendly. Just wasn't my best experience this past time which is likely my fault for not saying anything.

You are cheating yourself if you do not visit this place. Their homemade Kimchi and soy sauce, to the house smoked salmon are amazing. The service is exceptional and the food is even better. I highly suggest trying the Spicy Pork or the Military Soup. Outstanding job guys!

Best restaurant in the area. Great Korean and Japanese dishes and friendly owners + staff. Eat lunch from here at least once a week. Not greasy and has healthy options. Plus very clean inside.

Great sushi and amazing service! I especially love the homemade soy sauce. Tokyo roll is our favorite, but haven’t had a roll we didn’t love yet. Had dine in dinner and lunch, as well as dinner carry out and each time was same high quality!
