Leatherwood Mountain Resort is the most wonderful vacation area you could ever stay at. The Cabins are wonderful, the staff is beyond helpful and friendly, and it offers Horse back riding, a swimming pool, tennis, hiking trails, bike riding, zip line, creeks, a restaurant, and did I mention the most beautiful scenery. I LOVE it!!! I look forward to our next visit!!! So Blessed to stay there!!!

Horse trail rides, beautiful hiking trails and water falls. Property is beautifully kept. Cabin rentals are affordable.

I can’t say enough about how awesome this place was! They saved a 16 year olds birthday! Our five teenagers were impressed! The people there were some of the nicest people I have met and the resort was absolutely beautiful! I cannot wait to go back when everything else there is open! We were definitely impressed

Leatherwoods Mountain is a great place. The cabins are very beautiful and well kept. The property is wonderful with horse trails and walking trails right in your backyard literally. Definitely would recommend for any vacation.

This place is special. Amazing views and wide open spaces. If you're a horse person, this is heaven. Definitely plan to have dinner at the restaurant. The night we took 8 people, they were very busy. The girls did an awesome job!! The food was hot and fresh. Honestly, the whole experience exceeded our expectations. That's tough to do these days. Hats off to Trevor and Abby for running a class operation.

My husband and I camped with our horses and dogs at site #7. We had a pathway right down to Elk creek. This area is just gorgeous. The creek gets regularly stocked and the fish are big. We always saw people fishing. The horse trails were nice and you could ride as much steep or flat as you like. The reason for this review however is the staff at Leatherwood. I wanted to let everyone know how awesome the staff was during our visit. Wayne would do anything for you. Thanks for all your help with my horses and their safety. Carolyn, Susan and Ashley in the office are so friendly and accommodating. Smiling and easy to talk with. Super helpful with directions or places to get tires. I highly recommend a visit to this place just to meet these amazing people. Thanks VC for the bear carving!!!!!!

Me and my family have been visiting the Leatherwood Mountain Resort for more than two years now. We’ve stayed in several cabins, all which were very clean, well stocked, and had an amazing view of the mountains. The staff at Leatherwood are all amazing. Friendly and fast to answer any questions. We enjoy the convenience of the the on-site restaurant which has live music some weekends. If you are a nature lover you will love the Leatherwood Mountain Resort.

Magnificent place for a mountain getaway and the wife and I have been here many times. We're never disappointed.

Great community of homes to rent or they have camp grounds too. If you have horses you can bring them. You can go horseback riding, trout fishing, tubing, hiking trails or relaxing outside.

We camped in the primitive site with our horses in the trail barn. The stalls were fine. The facilities were mire than fine with a notable exception. There was no portajohn near the camp sites. We had to walk .2 mile to the west barn. I suppose the management assumed all horse trailers have toilets. They do not. All of our encounters with staff were extremely positive. Even the lawn caretakers paused their equipment when horses were coming. The trails were glorious, and the views were phenomenal. Shoes on horses highly recommended though. This is rough country.

This delightful get away is only 45 minutes from Blowing Rock and Boone. Great place to unwind and go swimming in clean creeks or horseback riding. The staff is excellent and this place is affordable for families with kids. So many sites within driving distance. Lots of rental cabin options.

Had an amazing time at such a secluded campground. River was 30 feet from my camper and that just tickled me pink. Staff has been the most friendly and patient staff I've worked with so far on my journey. I had a ton of questions. Thanks for the memories guys!

Amazing place to stay - my only advice is that 2 days is not long enough lol! I thought being in the off-season there wouldn't be too much to do or see. Boy was I wrong. It's a beautiful and peaceful place. It is very remote so make sure you prepare adequately as far as food goes!

We just stayed there late October 2022. Although the house we rented wasn't one of Leathwoods home. We stayed in the last house on top of the mountain. Magnificent views.

I can't say enough good things about Leatherwood! I first visited about 20 years ago with my parents when I was a kid. Now, as an adult, I come twice yearly. I've stayed in several different cabins and never been unhappy with any of them. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Not far at all from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock, but still secluded enough to feel quiet and private. Looking forward to many future visits!

Great place to ride camp or hike.

We reserved a rental house called “Sacred Ground” at Leatherwood Mountains Resort in July, planning to stay a full week in September. We stayed only one night due to seeing a dangerous growth of mold on a bedroom ceiling from a leak; plus, a dead baby snake found in another bedroom. The house was dirty and dusty: filthy sink and tub in main bathroom, clumps of dog hair in the return air ducts and on stairs, dead bugs in ceiling light fixtures and on floors, greasy stove, spring pollen-coated patio furniture, window blinds covered in dust. This could have been prevented by proper quality control and pre-arrival inspections, along with proper and thorough cleaning. (Obviously, the mold rendered the house not habitable and needed remediation, but the trip could have been cancelled in advance, saving car rental cost, time off from work, and lots of time packing food for the week.) Fortunately, we brought our own bed linens, so the children were able to sleep on the main level couches away from the two lower-level bedrooms. Of course, we checked out the next morning. The staff was empathetic, offering a different rental house or a refund. However, the refund process added to an already stressful event because it became “the check is in the mail” situation. After some time, we had to resolve it using the dispute process through our credit card company. To improve for future guests, we recommend: 1) This house needs a thorough cleaning, dusting, and some updates 2) implement a quality control system to check on cleanliness and condition several days in advance to allow notice if the house is not ready, and then do a final check the day before check in (staff is on site so it’s not hard to do). 3) fix things that don’t befit a $395/night house: replace burned out light bulbs; repair sliding bathroom door that doesn’t close all the way in main bedroom; replace glass in patio door—it’s fogged and ruins the beautiful views; replace washer and dryer with standard size units—the current ones hold only 2 cubic feet and take an hour and forty minutes just to wash; related to that, don’t make guest pay a cleaning fee yet require them start a load of laundry of linens before check out (which also raises questions about the Sanitizing pledge) along with running the dishwasher and unloading it—all before the 11 am checkout; put trash cans on site and arrange garbage pick-up after stay—for now, guests need to try to fit trash in the car to take to the dumpster at the main gate that is 10 minutes from the house.

Awesome homes and views. Enjoyed the horseback riding and the private hot tub under the stars.

I have stayed at the Eagles Nest home several times. It has breathtaking views and a great hot tub to enjoy while stargazing. The last time I was there, my wife and I watched a meteor shower from the hot tub. The horseback riding through the mountain trails was incredible. It was a wonderful experience.

Very nice all around. If you have horses this is the place to come and trail ride. They have Cabin rentals and a campground right on elk Creek.

Looking for an out of the way place where you can just kick back and relax, than this is the place.

Some members of my family and I came to Leatherwood for horseback riding and had a great time! One of my nephews was very apprehensive about riding but the guide’s husband walked him around so he could participate with us! It was super sweet and greatly appreciated! I already miss my horse Scooter! Hugs and kisses!

I tent camped there for 4 days. The facilities are clean and fairly close by. It was very peaceful by the stream. The staff was wonderful and the food at the Grille was great.

Participated in the annual Mule Days event...Always a great time! Camping by the river is an affordable option and riding trails are open year round.

Just stopped by to visit family members staying for a long weekend. Have stayed at Leatherwood cabins in the past. Some cabins are way up on the mountain. Nice views and relaxing. Can be a long drive on narrow roads.

I booked a trail ride for my Fiance and I for Thursday. We are from out of town an hour and half away.When the day came it was raining.I had called two hours in advance to see if the plan was to cancel due to rain.I was told over the phone quote " if you wanna go ride out in the rain you can I'll go tell the girls to ride in the rain". My response was no we can cancel or reschedule.Then was told to call back at 12 with our appointment being at 1.We ended up canceling 15mins from the farm because of our overall communications with staff.

Looking for a fun secluded beautiful place ... Look no further they have many options to choose from cabin, houses and more. Owners are easy and fantastic. Riding, hiking or just enjoying the beautiful mountains. There is a restaurant on site. Can't wait for spring to go back.

Beautiful Area. Accomodating Host.

We’ve been going to Leatherwood for several years now. At least once a year. In the beginning it seemed very personable, private. The past 2 visits just didn’t have that feeling. The first of those two visits was in a fabulous cabin. Very clean, no bugs (always an issue in the mtns) but the day of our check-out which is 11:00am, we were all packed up and doing everything they ask you to do. They ask you to do a lot that I think should be done by the housekeeping crew seeing that you have to pay a cleaning fee of $100+. A lady drove up to our cabin. Our car was still there parked out front and you could clearly see through all the open glass windows that we were still there. It was only 10:00am. She knocks on the door and says (doesn’t ask, says) she’s going to go start cleaning the hot tub. I was really shocked. This has never happened before. So I said uh ok....I later take all the used towels downstairs to the laundry room and see that she had come in downstairs and also started a load of laundry. I was not happy. Left many complaints about it to Leatherwood and never heard anything back. The 2nd time..... we went and stayed at another nice cabin that was down a terrible driveway. Almost ruined a tire. The stay there was fine. After a week of returning home, my husband gets an email saying that the cleaning crew said that there were signs of a pet and we should be charged an extra $75. We NEVER take a pet. Never. And I always leave the cabins spotless. If I can pay $2000 to stay in the cabin, I can pay $75 for my pet. It was a pet free cabin, which is what I always look for because I don’t want to stay where others have brought their pets. After some back and forth, We said we didn’t bring a pet and they didn’t charge us. It’s just something, once again that shouldn’t have happened. Just doesn’t have the same friendly feeling anymore.

Would definitely recommend this place if your going on a family vacation, weekend getaway, etc. Mountain views are nice & serene, whether early morning or sunset. Amenities were great, cabin was superb. Traveling thru those mountain trails to go out left something to be desired, if you wanna explore Wilkesboro or Boone.

We stayed at an RV site which was fine, water & electricity at each site. We thought there was a bath/ shower but we didn't see any. The area is beautiful along a stream and across from pastures where they're were horses. What could be better.

You must stay at the At Rainbows End cabin! Beautiful views, room for 4 horses, big fully equipped kitchen and it sleeps two couples and four kids easily with a fold out for another couple. Property is gorgeous!

We love Leatherwood. We usually visit at least twice a year if not more. We usually stay in a cabin at least one of our trips, and the Camp ground another visit... we've stayed at multiple different cabins through the years we have visited and each one has something special about it. The campground is always amazing, right next to the creek. The kids love to tube, and fish, just play in the creek, walk over to the barn. It's a lovely place for a Vacation! Staff is friendly, barn is nice. We take horses each time we go and the trails can be as short or as long as you wanna make em or adventure.

Talk about a straight up mountain to climb. Put the vehicle in low and away we went. Leatherwood itself is good. Now the little surrounding area. Not sure why it's so hard to luck up your trash in your yard. But alot of trash looking areas.

We stayed at the last straw at Leatherwood. It was a wonderful trip. The barn loft met our expectations, our 4 year old loved it so much she didn't want to leave. The sound of the mountain creek beside us was music! The staff is so hospitable they worked hard to fit our little one in for a pony ride on cookie monster with Jamie. We will be back to stay longer next time. 5 stars isn't enough 💓

Good cabin rental place far away from any nearby towns or roads in the Blue Ridge mountains. Multiple cabins to choose from, each spaced far apart from others so that there is much privacy and neighbors can't be seen or heard. The views here are from the Three Daughters cabin. Interwoven between the different cabins are various hiking trails and small streams, perfect for going on a hike or a morning stroll. At the front visitor center there is a small cafe, as well as a trash bin for throwing away the trash after your stay. Bonus points for the cat. The car trip between the visitor center and the various cabins can be a little treacherous, but nothing too dangerous. The cabin I stayed in had all the essential necessities for a comfortable stay, as well as a hot tub on the balcony. The AC worked well, and the bathrooms and bedrooms were relatively spacious and clean. However, I did find a few bugs here and there. Nothing that isn't too hard to take care of. When outside, no cars or people could be heard, just trees and bugs and birds. The views from the balcony were beautiful, especially during sunrise and sunset. I will definitely be returning to this cabin for another stay next fall.

Wow. I'm hesitant to share the secret but I must. We hand an incredible experience here! This place is magical.

Our girls' trip was a huge success. I am thrilled that we chose Leatherwood Mountain Resorts. There were a few glitches in the house where we stayed; but it was no fault of the resort. The grounds are well maintained; and we enjoyed hiking the various trails.

We had a great covid-escape here. Great to take our minds off the work-from-home daily grind. The mountain views were pristine and refreshing. My kids loved the ping pong table in the mountain house we rented. The hot tub was welcome to recover after we put the kids to bed. The stars at night were plentiful due to the lack of light pollution (technically Bortle class 4 area), and we were able to spot Jupiter’s moons & Saturn’s rings, as well as the comet neowise just before dawn. Great spot to bring your travel telescope. Touchless checkin and checkout process was good, and we appreciated attention to those details.

We always love going to Leatherwood! The trails are amazing! The kids love cooling off in the pool during the summer. We even found a great spot to hang out on the creek. The restaurant has great food and an amazing atmosphere. The mountain views are great too! I saw 2 shooting stars in 1 night while hanging out in the hot tub!

I was the photographer at a wedding held at Leatherwood Resorts. My husband and I decided to make it a weekend getaway and booked a stay at one of their cabins. So this is a two part review! 1) As a wedding professional I understand things can go wrong outside of our control. In the middle of the ceremony the town lost power, due to a car accident. The staff at Leatherwood got to work making sure the guests were accommodated and that the reception could happen. In the end, the staff and other vendors helped me create one of the most romantic first dances of my career for THE sweetest couple. (See photo) 2) We rented a one bedroom cabin. When looking at pictures online you assume they are a little nicer than when in real life, especially being a dog friendly cabin. Not the case here. We stayed in the most well maintained cabins I've ever seen (we travel a lot). My husband is allergic to animals and he had zero issues in the cabin. We were impressed from start to finish with the service and cleanliness of this resort. 10/10 recommend for a romantic getaway (you can't beat the views)

I had the pleasure of staying at Leatherwood last weekend for my niece’s wedding. My family and I rented the Hawks View cabin and it was wonderful. In fact, everything about Leatherwood was wonderful! My extended family raved about their cabins, the views, and the fabulously accommodating staff at Leatherwood!! I had the honor of marrying my niece last weekend and Abbie could not have been more accommodating and organized. She made my job as officiant easier. My niece told me the whole day and evening was exactly how she pictured and dreamed of for her wedding day. Thank you Leatherwood for a fabulous weekend. We had a large family reunion at Leatherwood Mountains Resort. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating to our group. We enjoyed large family dinners at the pavilion/stables, afternoons by the pool, and evenings hanging out at various cabins. We personally stayed at Peaceful Horizons. It was a great cabin, well furnished, and the kids loved it. However, we were able to visit at least 8-10 of the other cabins where family stayed and they all had gorgeous views. The beautiful outdoors are definitely the highlight of the resort.
