Jollof rice: It was okay if you were going to someone’s house to eat, but not restaurant-worthy tbh. Fried rice: It was terrible. It tasted like a bunch of village spices and crayfish were dumped inside. Not rich at all, which sucks because that is my favorite food. Nkwobi: Bad. No cow feet at all, small portion, and just full of palm oil. Not appetizing at all. Edikaikan: It was okay. Pepper soup: It was okay. Suya: Costs $5 per small stick with stale beef and flavorless spice, and a bunch of onions. Oh, to top it off, I ordered a meat pie (my favorite snack) Please, why did it come as a store-bought Jamaican beef patty? For $4, I could’ve gone to La Fruteria to buy it cheaper if I wanted a beef patty. And if you don’t have meat pie, why not tell the customer instead of giving me a substitute I most likely would have declined. And I almost ordered 4 of them. Thank goodness I didn’t We spent over $120 for that trash. We only ate the rice and suya there and ordered the rest to go so we didn’t know everything was just going be piss us off. I hate to leave a bad review but the meatpie did it for me. I can’t believe I ordered Nigerian Meatpie and got Jamaican Beef Patty. Nigerians and audacity sha. Anyway, PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and don’t waste your time here. Or at the very least check your food before you leave, before you goan pay for rubbish.

This has to be a new owner cuz the food was delicious but now it's disgusting, ur not supposed to cook fish in the same pot as chicken I don't eat fish and it makes me sick. The man hung up on me and told me to go to grub hub for my money smh. This place needs to be CLOSED DOWN

Theee absolute best African food ever, my daughter and I buy food here so often!!! This is our favorite spot (simply a treat for us) the people at the restaurant are extremely nice. I love this restaurant 10/10 for sure!!! We get the egusi soup (vegetarian) and Fufu…

2 stars because I had nice size fish , but fish did not taste fresh . Very small amount of egusi & efo for 20$ , fufu was very lumpy not fully cooked had some black stuff on it was not happy

This is not even Nigerian food. The food was absolutely disgusting and not edible. No flavor at all. Never coming back here, I advise no one to go here. Not authentic.

I love the consistency but I feel some meals can be better especially the yam poridge. It feels like just yam and stew and the yam is strong. The jollow rice too sometimes has too much oil but I love the poundo, so soft and succulent.

Horrible food … horrible waiter . His attitude is horrible I guess he is the cook. The Owner is nice . Prices are too much . I ate and paid $25 smh and left ! The stew was small portion.. it tasted like ravioli. The tomatoe flavor base was way too much. It was not authentic as I know Naija food to be . Will not go back .

Long wait!!! I ordered online at 4pm my food wasn't ready until 5.20pm Got 3 pieces of lamb that were very hard to chew, chicken was ok, small portions.

The best African restaurant ever visited. The hospitality was a top notch. The foods were great, and environment was clean. The owner is so friendly, and very kind.

Visiting chicago and opted for fufe and egusi soup for dinner....Soup was a Lil watery, the goat meat I ordered was just bones and barely had meat on them, they need to be generous with the soup, eitherway I've had better well cooked egusi soup.

Tons of great authentic west African food choices. The food is cooked to serve and well worth the wait.

I have never in my life had better food. Bruh. Me and my girl came here to eat. I was a bit skeptical because of the disorganized scenery of the interior but the food is A1. Ive never had a meal better than the food that was cooked here. No exaggeration.

I wasn't from the area but when I Google an affordable African restaurant this place had one $ so I figured I give it a try. first off the guy took my order and didnt give me a price but my fault for not asking but guessing it only had one $ i wasnt spending to much just for egusi chicken and and fufu I waited 15min for my order and it was $19 no side or anything the food was ight and portions are small for the price i wouldn't go back I've been to wayyy better African restaurants with amazing food and for that price you can get soup and rice!

Delicious with great customer service

Amazing jollof rice, completely delicious, so scrumptious, I had to get four more plates. Even, Barack Obama ate here. It’s just amazing.👍👍

I called at 7pm and placed my order. I was told the order would take 35 minutes (I already thought this was a little extreme but I ordered anyway). I came in at 8:15pm and proceeded to wait for my order after being acknowledged a good 5 minutes later. It is now 10pm and I STILL DONT have my food. This is clearly a joke. Next time I will make time to cook my own food. It doesn’t take 3 hours for jollof rice. On top of the fact that these folks are rude. Customer service not great at all.....😒 Don’t make no sense how terrible it is. To add insult to injury I wasn’t given my entire order. Omg. Edit.....The food was good. That's why I'm giving more stars but next time be honest about the wait time

The Sunday buffet felt like an open house family dinner.

THis African cuisine have three of the things that I enjoy most from that style food. They have foofoo, Jollof rice and plantains that are always popular with me.. They have been in business for 28 years. Many people must love the place. I am sure that off the menu is more exciting. Thisd was okay but okay is not bad. I enjoyed it. The lady with me liked it less but it is not her cup of tea.

I my goodness their pancakes r so delicious, stroganoff is out of this world. Staff is so accommodating. U can always find something good on the menu.

This place is one of the best Nigerian places for food. Fresh Egusi soup with th right taste. It also very clean and airy with good staff. Also took a pack of the Jollof rice and goat meat. Had it for the next day and it was spicy and tasty just the way I like it.

Great service and good food. The owner/manager was very accommodating and answered many questions about Nigerian food and culture. Turns out many foods I thought were Caribbean actually originated in Africa. I look forward to my next visit to try more things on the menu.

Love them!! I've been going here for a few years now and the closest place to Africa is VEE VEES!!

My husband and I ate here last night as I was desperate for some home cooking after eating out for the last 2 weeks. Found the restaurant on Google and the decor needs a updating but it has a typical Nigerian feel about it. Service was not very good and a customer had to go to the back to get someone to get our order after 20 minutes. We realised that they were short staffed and it was only one man cooking and waiting the tables. The food came out after 15 minutes of putting our order in. My husband is Swedish and stuck with jollof rice and chicken while I had pounded yam with okra and goat stew. The portions were big and most importantly they got the balance of spice and flavour correct. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Chicago just don't go there hungry.

Go eat here to try something different. I'm a foodie and my roots are Caribbean/African. Good vibe and people at this place. Ask them what's good and they will give you a sample. a break from normal Chicago eats.

We had dinner in this restaurant because it is not so easy to find authentic African cooking in Germany. The restaurant has a very simple interior but all is clean and reasonable. We just asked for a good/typical choice and got a mixture of several items. All were fine and home made. It is more a kind of 'Mothers kitchen' than a restaurant. And this was what we were searching for. So don't expect too exotic things but give it a trial.

I'm a Nigerian and this food is definitely authentic, fresh and delicious. Will be visiting again. The server was very polite,table was cleaned throughout the meal, and we were checked on regularly. Even better, they play some great Nigerian music while you eat. Only disappointment is that they ran out of meat pie :-(

It's been a while since this restaurant was reviewed, so thought I would update. Went along with some adventuresome friends, but since I just happened to eat some French pheasant pate for breakfast, this was a bit of a come-down. The food all seemed to be freshly prepared, and the fish was fresh and the goat young. There weren't many diners for a Saturday,though, so I wonder how this place stays in business. Nevertheless, this was a nice introduction to Sub Saharan African food. The restaurant is a hop, skip and jump from the Red Line Granville stop (also the Broadway bus), so it is an easy destination. While many reviewers rave about the authentic food, I wouldn't have a clue. I think my style is more like you would get in a 4 star hotel. I knew it wasn't that coming in, and Vee Vee's did not disappoint. Nevertheless, it was an opportunity to try white yam, and other very ethnic specialties. The people were polite and friendly, which added greatly to the meal. There was no-hassle, no charge BYOB, but maybe bring a glass, too--we had to use our water glasses. Generally speaking, the atmosphere is authentic Third World. The menu says that Vee Vee's has a booth at Taste of Chicago, so if you are at the Taste, stop by the stand. If you like the look of what they have, I definitely would buy it.
