It has been opened for many years (you can tell from outside even) I like their fresh sashimi, and sea food hot pot.

Went here yesterday evening. Japanese pork cutlet and sushimi. The cutlet was hard, chewy and breading was just falling off. Probably frozen then cooked. They gave me $2.00 off a $36.00 meal. Not acceptable to me. Oh... And I ate three -four strips and stopped. Not even good / eatable. The atmosphere was cheap, old, nothing done to sprouse it up to Santa Monica standards. There are much better restaurants for food and atmosphere on Santa Monica Blvd. Not a choice I would recommend at all. The waitress seemed not at all interested in my play of food not eaten. Disappointed.

Authentic Japanese food that really hits the spot. Friendly service, large portions, and delicious food. My husband and I love Aki, and although we’ve moved to a neighborhood farther away, we will keep coming back!

I endured a disheartening 20-minute wait at the entrance without any staff reaching out. When I finally engaged with them, I was informed that two tables ahead of me required attention, and I was asked to wait longer, despite being a solo diner. The restaurant, with a 60% vacancy, left me puzzled as to why I couldn't be accommodated at the bar. To compound matters, staff members were seen smiling and attending promptly to other customers, highlighting the inconsistency in service. Their impatience and disregard for my situation added to the overall frustration of an already trying day, nearly bringing me to tears.

My family's favorite restaurant. Actually, we would eat there everyday if my wife had her way. Every dish screams authentic Japanese. Scrumptious. Owner Dean who tends the sushi bar serves nothing but the freshest fish. Outstanding variety of fish. I'm from Hawaii and I cannot live without fish. A match made in heaven. WE LOVE AKI. Thank you Dean and staff. See you soon. The Kahaleuahi family from Maui.

Came here twice whilst staying in LA for a few days. The food is excellent. Family Run restaurant. We didn't book and managed to sneak a table but would reccomend booking. The Gyoza's and Sushi were brilliant. 100% would go again when back in LA.

This is the quintessential family run restaurant and you can tell. Service is friendly and personable. The food may take a hot minute but it tastes amazing and there's a warm cozy atmosphere every time. My in-laws have been coming here since their first date and I hope to do the same.

Place is a dump. We've reserved a table for a dinner, however when we arrived we were simply ignored. We were waiting at the entrance for a while, then I walked through the rooms to get attention of the staff. Waitresses were passing by and ignoring us. So we left. Also, place smelled quite nasty inside, and kitchen didn't look clean at all

An old-fashioned restaurant offering a wide variety of Japanese food. The ambience and the service are both warm. Good portion for the price/location, and the dinner set with tempura is totally worth it! Street/ meter parking. Chirashi & sukiyaki see attached:

Had the sukiyaki dinner, it was sufficient for the two of us but of course, we also had a gyoza appetizer and side salad. The dinner came with miso soup, tempura and sunomono "which we didn't get". Flavor was not your typical commercialized extra sweet or salty fare that seems to have overtaken the Japanese food scene. So, it was a welcomed surprise! Will return, especially to claim the "forgotten sunumono"!

Been going here for years, since before I lived in LA even. It's that good and it has stayed that consistent. This family owned spot has been in business for more than 30 years (I think more than 35). I always try to sit at the bar with Dean, who does an amazing job preparing both simple and sophisticated plates. Worth the visit every time.

This is a sushi place. There is no scene, there are no ridiculously oversized rolls covered in a fish and sauce and stuff. Instead, there is Dean, who stands behind the bar and thoughtfully cuts, plates, dresses and presents some of the best fish around. The kitchen puts out some nice hot foods, but Dean and the fish are the real stars. The service is always helpful and gracious. The sushi always has a classic feel with preparations that Dean advises come from Japan. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

A very tasty sushi selection. As close to the quality I had in 6 years in Japan as I have found in LA. Japanese-run, feels like you're in a little family restaurant in Japan, and the food serves to help that impression greatly. Prices can add up, but it's a great place for better quality Japanese food.
