Wine tasting is one of the best activities you can enjoy in California, especially in Paso Robles at Alta Colina. Alyssa provided us with unforgettable experiences—Alta Colina Rosé is one of my favorites. I even brought some home. My Rosé made the flight all the way to Columbus with me—it’s that good.

I don't know where to begin with our experience at Alta Colina. We came by as a group of four on a June weekend, excited to try their wine and check out the property. We come to Central Coast once a year and we love to explore wineries in the area. Driving up to the property was easy, check in was seamless, and then things went downhill from here. We were shown our table for tasting which was outside, right by the parking lot in the front. I was a bit confused at the time, but didn't say anything to our host right away. We started with our pours, and what felt like for each pour was just a splash of the wine. It was not enough of a pour to actually taste the notes of the wine. I have been to several wineries in Napa, Sonoma, Healdsburg, Paso, etc... and this was the smallest pour I have ever seen. Our host was also very much occupied with another larger group at the time, and we felt very much neglected. The amount of pour we got, did not equal the time waiting for our next one. It felt like we were waiting forever for her to come by since we finished our pours very fast, then another host started helping us. Lastly, we were not impressed with the wine. This place was highly recommended by local friends, and I was expecting the gorgeous views which is all over their website and Instagram. It was a bit deceiving of marketing on their end. At the end of our tasting, I had to go back and let them know we needed to move on to our lunch reservation. As I was paying for the tasting, I expressed my concerns to the staff and though one of them seemed empathetic, the other did not. I strongly do not agree with the price of their tasting with the amount of pour they offered, and I did voice they need to be a bit more transparent about their tasting offers (pond/trailer versus a parking lot). Too bad, will not recommend or come back again.

I planned my proposal at the summit tasting deck and Melissa and Lou Lou were both fantastic in helping me plan it. Everything they helped plan turned out perfectly. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to propose!

We spent a lovely afternoon tasting wines with Ed, who was knowledgeable and generous with his time. Loved the family feel of the vineyard. Wines were excellent. We ended up joining the wine club. We will return! Highly recommend making this one of your stops when in Paso.

We love Alta Colina; the wines and the AC family! I'm a sucker for their Petite Sirah, while my husband thinks their Toasted Slope Syrah is the best red he's ever had!! We've done tastings with numerous folks there, but Erika and Ed are our two favorites to sit with when we visit. Going to Alta Colina feels like coming home from a long visit away. We absolutely love it here!!

What a great visit. We had not been back to Paso for five years, but meeting Bob and Lynn , the founders of this great estate, was just a real plus. I love how they are so down to earth and welcoming—Bob still refers to himself as ‘just a grape farmer’. Lovely visit, great wines (see critic Jen Dunnuck’s ratings), and a warm greeting from the hosts. Thx, Bob and Lynn

We had a wonderful experience at Alta Colina, as we expected. We’re a little choosy about where we have memberships and Alta Colina is one we value. The wines are spectacular- all estate grown grapes and family owned and managed makes a noticeable difference in their quality. The tasting experience is always enjoyable and informative.

You HAVE to go. This is the most family-vibe winery you’ll ever experience. Bob, the owner, came over we had the most beautiful conversation. Michelle, our server, was INCREDIBLE. Gave us all the recs. Great wine, great views, great prices. Best vibe.

My wife and I unexpectedly stopped at Alta Colina and we’re glad we did! Melissa guided us thru our tasting telling us about each and every wine. She sprinkled in tidbits about the grapes, vineyard, growing seasons, and Bob - the Owner. There were two calm and friendly dogs on premise that stopped by our table to visit and get a rub. We were surprised to learn that there is a small pond up on the vineyard with 5 trailer campers referred to as the Trailer Pond. We drove up and thru the vineyard to have a look. We ran into Bob who was closing the gate but spent a few minutes chatting with us. At the top were incredible views and amazing photo opportunities. Incredible experience and highly recommended!

Took a party of four there early in the day. They really enjoyed the personal attention they got and and stayed awhile. At the end of the day they wanted to go back to buy more wine since it was so good and have more. Although it was near closing time they took care of them they had another good time with great personal. To go back a second time means the wine is exceptional!

I have been a member of Alta Colina since 2011. Their Rhone wines have never disappointed and I look forward to every new vintage. My first encounter with Bob Tillman (Owner, with family) was at their first tasting room, just down the road from the their current location. He was dressed in bib-overalls, like a farmer who just got off a tractor…and, indeed, he had just left the vineyard to serve us in the small tasting room. I could tell then that this man would handcraft every bottle if it were possible. As a former engineer, he took the end product very seriously, in both quality and consistency. Since then, they have expanded their operations and tasting room, added “vintage” trailer glamping, Tesla charging, and increased production of great Syrah based wines as well as other white and red varietal’s. But the quality of wines has not changed. I heartily recommend Alta Colina as a must have for any cellar. And the entire staff, including a new winemaker, will make you feel very special.

I'm constantly surprised at the audacity of many Paso Robles wineries that believe their wines are worth charging $25 for the privilege of tasting. This winery has not been around long enough to warrant the price. Let me taste your wines for ten bucks and I'll be infinitely more likely to buy your $50 bottle. The service was great and the staff knowledgeable. Wines are good too but not worth the tasting fee.
