Called in to book a dinner for a birthday, but whoever was in charge of booking at the restaurant during the call, wrote it down for the wrong day and made a public facebook post saying it was our fault they had to turn away customers. Had to find somewhere else to go for birthday dinner. Cute local place with fantastic food and great servers, didn't have a bad experience here until this happened. Just be careful when booking things with them. Perhaps calling people who made reservations the day before (or a few days) to make sure all the dates and times were written down correctly would help instead of having to turn away customers?

I almost never write a negative review, however, this was so bad that I felt compelled to share my experience. The birchwood Inn is a lovely Inn with a charming atmosphere and superb service. The bloody mary drink was exceptional. And that's where the goodness stops. It can lure you in, but our dinner was about the worst I can remember in recent times. The roasted chicken which is on their menu, was so very salty, that we got sick even trying it. We boxed it to take it home, and thought we could doctor it up a bit. We tried and then it went straight to the garbage. I have never done that before. Can you imagine spending about $150 for two people and sending your meal into the garbage ? The other dish was the fried fish platter with soggy onion rings. The breaded coating on the fish tasted like cardboard, so I peeled it off and found the fish overcooked. I am sorry to share this review. The people there are so nice, but they need to know our experience. Awful dishes were served to us. What a shame.

I'm excited to share what a beautiful wonderful experience I had at the Birchwood Inn and Tavern. Upon arriving you are greeted with the most inviting and charming atmosphere. The flowers, front porch and a row of rocking chairs welcomed you to sit and enjoy the view. The staff is super friendly extremely helpful and wonderful to talk with. We stayed in the Cambridge room. Our room was decorated with such detail and attention. I loved all of the pictures that showed the history of the Inn. Your room comes with a lovely welcome basket from coffees, teas, milks creamers and a thoughtful amount of snacks. My favorite was the fresh homemade mini loaf of bread. Delicious. Our room was spacious and clean and perfect for two people. The Inn provides you with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The Tavern just down the stairs was a added bonus for us. The dinners we had were beyond our expectations. Absolutely delicious. Our Sunday brunch which came with our room was amazing. The Cheff is a gem.The owners Amy and Matt really know how to make you feel welcomed and want to come back. Their hospitality shined through from the minute we arrived to the moment we left. We will be coming back. I thank you!!

I couldn't say a bad thing about this place if I had to. Out of the dozen or so times I have been in the past year, this place continues to impress. Carmen the bartender is so friendly and personable. The food and atmosphere is amazing everytime. I've had the rosemary date eggs benedict a few times for brunch and prior to trying it here I've never had an eggs benedict.. the crab cakes are by far my favorite and top 3 I've ever had which for me is a lot. Between myself, my boyfriend and the handfuls of friend we've had join us we've tried most everything on the menu with no complaints. We always look forward to a night out at the birchwood.

We stayed 1 night at the inn. The tavern, bartender and Eileen, the manager, were very helpful and friendly. However, the inn was disappointing. The innkeepers were not there, the heat in our room had not been turned on, there were no glasses for water, no coffee cups, the curtain "covering " the door was too short and the kitchen had a direct view into our room, the toiletries were ridiculously inadequate.

Charming inn and tavern in an out of the way location. The 1700s inn and tavern were remodeled in 2020 to show the post and beam construction and a beautiful cherry bartop. The service could not have been any better or friendlier. The food was also excellent. The stuffed mushrooms were quite tasty, being filled with garlic, onions and local sausage. The prime rib was one of the best that my wife has had. My bangers and mash were quite good. The prices were quite reasonable. Most entrees are in the $20 range. We will be returning.

Plenty of seating outside on the grass or under a tree…very relaxing. The owner, Matthew, was nice enough to chauffeur my group to and from a concert in the area. We stayed at the Birchwood Inn this past weekend and our trip was incredible! The inn itself is very quaint and has some interesting history (be sure to check out the murals in the dining room). The rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious and they gave us a generous basket that contained with muffins, cereal, juice, milk, half ‘n half, snacks, granola bars, etc. at check-in. The grounds are really pretty and there is a ton of outdoor seating. Be sure to eat at least one meal at the tavern, we had dinner there both nights of our stay and the food and service were second to none. All of us enjoyed seafood the first evening, which was fresh and deliciously prepared. The second evening we went for burgers – both lamb & beef were available and both were perfectly grilled and tasty! In addition to the nice rooms and amazing food, the staff at this place can’t be beat! Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable about the region and super accommodating. The owner of the inn was even kind enough to drive us back and forth to a concert in the area on Saturday night. We’re definitely looking forward to visiting again the in the future and will be sure to stick around for brunch this time! Five stars strictly for Sunday brunch. I typically do not eat breakfast out anymore as I am generally disappointed in something. We stayed at the Birchwood (I have a separate review for that below) and Sunday brunch was included in the room rate. Nice! They have a great menu you can order off of (I hear that their corned beef hash is quite delicious). I was going to go that route but honestly I was not very hungry. I ordered two eggs over medium, toast, sausage links and it came with hash browns. The waitress came back and told us that they didn't have links but they had patties today. I wish I was hungrier because everything was top-notch and I think it was the best breakfast I've ever had. I think I read somewhere that a lot of their eggs and other ingredients are locally sourced and you can definitely taste that difference in quality. I'm not a huge sausage patty fan but these changed my mind, they were spiced perfectly and cooked perfectly and you could tell they were fresh. Hash browns were nicely seasoned and cooked how I like them, not too light not too dark. The room: Four Stars This was a very last minute reservation so I understand that the weather has been hot and obviously a hotel at this age with no central air conditioning is not going to have rooms be perfectly cold for your arrival. When we arrived at about 7:30 it was 84 degrees in the room again totally understandable. However it didn't really ever cool off enough to be comfortable and the air conditioning on high was probably a little bit small for that room and quite noisy. I hope in the future they can put wall units in and not tie up a window. Anyway the decor in the room was quite nice and had more pillows than I think I've ever seen, most of them decorative. Probably something women love and men not so much. There was a mini fridge with half and half, a microwave, coffee maker and some cups etc. Amy did explain to us an issue with Comcast that has been going on for about a month and has yet to be resolved with the cable TV (just in this room) but she did offer us some movies. Probably not the most current selection, but we were able to find one we hadn't seen before. Unfortunately because of the air conditioning being so loud even with the TV up to 100 we still couldn't hear it so we just tried our best with closed captioning. It was fine for a night but if I was staying longer I probably wouldn't have been as flexible. I was hoping we would hit the pub but we were pretty exhausted. The mattress we found very comfortable as well as the pillows. The shower in our room was a bit small so for future/longer stays I would probably investigate that a little bit more. Again, this was all very spur-of-the-moment last minute and a weekend. The grounds are quite lovely with beautiful perennials and a really nice looking vegetable garden. You can tell that there is a lot of pride in ownership here. The location was also very convenient to our destination and very easy to find.

Welcoming atmosphere would be a gross understatement. The atmosphere and decor is unique and very special. The menu has plenty of items that I would actually want to order. Not a common occurrence. I selected meatloaf wrapped in bacon with a side of gravy from the owners mother's recipe. The entree and the sides were delicious. My two companions absolutely loved their meals as well. One entree was a zucchini pasta that was thoroughly enjoyed. The history of the the place would require another whole review. Worth going way out of your way for.
