Absolutely amazing. Loved being there for one of the author classes they hosted by K.T. Munson. The store is clean, comfortable and has a great atmosphere. Perfect spot for getting a coffee, buying a book and spending time with friends. Wish they had a location in Anchorage.

I love this place from the atmosphere to the staff to the selection of books and local goods. They are genuine and wonderful!

Great place to buy and read books. Has a little coffee stand inside. Also has weekly events such as DnD and other games.

I never get tired of Black Birch Books and the amazing energy there; I Love hanging out and going through all the shelves of books here. There are always new crafts for perusing as well, all whilst they will offer you a courtesy coffee or tea to enjoy while you are exploring.

Great place to read, buy and discuss everything books

Great atmosphere! More than just a bookstore, Black Birch is a really nice place to hang out. Cool place to find a good book and enjoy the coffee bar while observing the colorful band of patrons that filter in throughout the day. There's a veteran coffee meet-up at 10am every Saturday as well as a plethora of other events throughout the year (craft classes, book clubs, open mic night, etc..). Good variety of books at good prices with a really interesting rare book section. The only place in the valley that does professional bookbinding! I really can't recommend Black Birch enough, I've been to bookstores all over the world and this one really exemplifies everything I look for in a book store.

It's everything you'd want in a book store, a community supportive owner, excellent staff & quite the collection of books - old & new.

This eccentric bookstore is an absolute hidden gem. The owner only employs at risk youth and is in the business to actually help her community! Book prices are beyond reasonable and the atmosphere has always been friendly and inviting. Do yourself a favor put down your phone and pick up a book in/from this shop.

Black Birch Books is the most welcoming & warm space. I stumbled upon the store during my visit to the area, and it was the high point of my day! Their pup, Dante, is the goodest pup EVER. There are so many options, and all of the books are reasonably priced. I met the owner & she was extremely helpful, and radiated positivity. Everyone there was so friendly. It felt like I had been apart if their book community for ages. I highly recommend stopping in if you’re passing by!

The bookshelves were so crammed with books that the spines were getting very damaged. Good luck pulling out or putting back a book(especially when you accidentally grab a book that is not attached to the spine) when you get to those areas. Ironically all of their other trinkets they sell have plenty of space upfront and without damage. 10/10 rating on the dog tho—very amazing greeter and was the nicest one there.

Such an amazing atmosphere. All of the events are great. Very, very fun for neurodivergent folks (at least my adhd self LOVES all the colors, displays, tactile items… *chef’s kiss*)!!

Pleasant bookstore to visit. Not the largest selection of novels around, but is well organized and easy to browse. Shop contains a nice looking Cafe, places to sit and a wonderful list of events and readings. We just stopped in once being on vacation, but ifni lived near here would be a regular stopping place!

The owner is amazing and works hard to be inclusive of all in the community.

I may not agree or understand all the events taking place but it's very nice that they are open to a variety - there's space for everyone here! I had my family Bible rebound here and she did it so neatly I came back to have a new keepsake cover put on my first Bible studies journal (I'd like to pass it down as well). They were also able to find some books I had been searching for ages for and order them in! This is a very supportive, compassionate, kind place, I hope God blesses them as they bless all who come through their door 🙏🤍

Taylor (may be incorrect spelling) is always such a joy to be around, as well as whomever else the bookstore attracts. The sense of community is tangible. Some yogi tea wisdom made me think of Taylor and Black Birch Books "Find strength in knowing that you can make a difference in the world."

Celebrating and encouraging inclusivity and acceptance is amazing. Taylor is cultivating a safe space for all walks of life, not to mention she’s the only book binder in Alaska! She’s rebinding my Bible for me and I can’t wait to see the final results. This small store has a big personality, and if you can’t find what you’re looking for, I can guarantee you’ll have it ordered for you.

From the day I first walked in, I knew that it was a special place. The owner, this Raven-haired, vibrant woman, talking to Me like I was an old friend. Surrounded by books and oddities. This is such a healthy place; a place of acceptance of individuality and of genuine, non-judgemental intellectual discussion. I know people that go here, not home, after work to refresh themselves with positive energy and unwind. Come in. Pet the dog. Grab some coffee. Read a book. Everyone’s welcome. I love this place.

The owner is a charm, and one of the best little bookstores I've been to in Alaska. Lots of local writers are displayed and always a smile. Also kudos for helping the youth with work! Great addition for the community!

BBB isn’t where you come to find what you’re looking for - it’s where you come to find what you didn’t know you needed. But the owner is happy to order whatever you’re looking for at the lowest price possible. There’s also a shop dog (Dante), a coffee/snack bar, and a rare books section. There’s also a whole section dedicated to books & crafts from local creators!

What an amazing little store! Unassuming from the front, it's definitely a case of "don't judge a book by its cover" once you get inside. When I say there are tons of books, I mean that there are tons of books. So many nooks and spaces that could potentially be holding your next greatest read, you should make sure to spend lots of time to search high, low, and come back for a second look after you've moved on. Lots of deals to be had like $1 tables. The kids section is very extensive and overflowing with inexpensive options. Lots of curiosities (as the name implies) like records, native art, and jewelry. Coffee, tea, and cocoa in the corner can warm you up as your browse. We loved the local creations like pens, jams/jellys, crochet, and cards/bags scattered throughout the store. On top of that, in-house handmade wands and screen printed clothing... really cool. I had to grab a shirt for myself. Grimm the friendly dog is waiting for you and runs through the store soaking up affection. The owners are amazing and friendly... my family felt at home amongst friends as we shopped. I delightful experience. Military and first responder discounts, as well as birthday discounts. There's always a giveaway drawing to be had, which is really cool. We can't wait to go back and browse the new inventory. You should stop by one day. Who knows what you'll find?
