The cheeseburger isn't as good as it used to be, but it's still good nonetheless 😀

My husband's been coming here for 30 years we decided to bring our grandson , he loves it so we are going back again. We drive from orange park just to have Blue Boys . Highly recommend

First, let me say, the food here is great, but it is the service that gets the 2 stars. Prior to covid, ordering from here was easy. But be warned if you are using grub hub or uber eats. If you order add ons, they won't do it and they take no responsibility for it. We have order 8 times in the last 3 months and each time the order has been wrong. Either wrong sandwich, wrong customs, adding pepper sauce when ordered no pepper sauce, or even item is not available. One driver was told let them fix it on the app, it isn't our problem. We'll, we have removed them from our regular order locations. It is a shame since the food is good, but we are not going to waste time when other restaurants will take ownership to handle issues. 08/15 update: So we tried again. 3 orders in the last month. All three orders were wrong. 1st order was 2 sandwiches, one not delivered and had to request a refund through grubhub. Next order, ordered hot sandwiches, delivered cold with the extras paid for, fried oreos were cold and very greasy, we could hold up the oreo and it dripped. Today, we ordered 2 biscuits and a large sub for our dunch later. We were called by the restaurant and told no biscuits, so we're requested to cancel full order. They said to do it ourselves. We did not have the option in the app yet. Called them back. Person who answered was rude. When we asked for a manager she hung up on us. same for the 2nd call. No help. This is not that New York deli that is famous for being rude. This is the south, where we treat each other with respect. We were very grateful for the initial call, but now we are done. Removed from favorite list and will no longer suggest it to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

Today was my first time here and I’m actually very disappointed. I ordered a mini super club and I am not too sure what this is. It’s SO MUCH BREAD. I did not expect this and I also asked what’s a good, popular sandwich to choose as today was my first time here. I can’t believe I spent $17 for bread. I could’ve made a club sandwich at home had I known I was getting so much bread. This is just not healthy for anyone to eat this much bread. I had to take the bread off and the rest of the sand which went in the trash. I don’t think I’ll be back.

I have loved Blue Boy for 13 years. My husband discovered it as soon as we moved to Jax and it has become a family tradition to treat ourselves with a Blue Boy, specifically the meatloaf Blue Boy, several times a year. Not sure what has happened. I think it's under new ownership, but it's not the same and not better. Apart from the meatloaf being less generous (though the taste is amazing and tastes like the same recipe), there is a change in the bread that changes the experience of eating a meatloaf Blue Boy. They used to make their own sourdough bread and lightly toasted it. The sourdough is more airy and doesn't get soggy in the same way as the white bread they're using now. This new white bread is a lot more dense, so when it gets soggy it is a densely soggy white bread that decreases the taste ratio of meatloaf vs bread, and makes the bread more dominant. It also doesn't mix the same way while you're chewing because the bread is so dense. I really hope they go back to making and using sourdough bread. It really is the signature of a Blue Boy. It's just not as enjoyable with hyper-dense white bread, especially with the expected increase in cost. My husband said everything else seemed the same as far as atmosphere and service. Just average and not unpleasant, as has been my experience. We always take it to go. Glad to see it is open longer hours!

Ordered takeout first time here today. Had burger sandwich. Very good and huge portion. Sandwich cut into four large pieces. Loved the bread.

I had the Puerto Rican Tripleta and it is huge. Going in for the first time I thought $15.00 for a sandwich was a little expensive, but when it's the size of 2 footlongs it's a bargain !! The ladies working could have not been any nicer !! And seemed genuinely happy to serve us. Definitely going back when I come back to town !!

This place right here is dirty and the owner is very rude and nasty just like the sandwich shop. I would not recommend any one to eat from this place.

We spent $35 on 2 sandwiches that was bread, lettuce, and onions. There's no 3 thin slices of meat and Patrick the manager feels that price was worth the 82 cents worth of meat he sliced in half to put on this hard bread. Wasn't like this year's ago and I will not return.

Took my grandson their per requested by him to order food . His birthday was on 3/11/24 turned 35., he remembered we use to take him their when he was a teen & early 20 sometimes. We all loved it! So glad not all of the things that are here it Jacksonville, FL have not disappeared. I didn't get anything but boy did he still loved everything he got. And can eat much more of it now! Blue Boys thanks for making his late birthday food wish come true. He was like a kid when it saw it was still open, hadn't been their in years. Plan on going back soon though.👌

Do not let the prices deter you. These are huge sandwiches. Get there early before they run out of things. Will need to go back to try more sandwiches.

Don't eat here unless you want to eat a 20 dollar burger that's not made the way you ordered it. I like to think my order of "plain, nothing on it" is an easy order for most. I usually say it up to three times to make sure my intentions are clear. But find my burger drowned in mayonnaise and pickle juice. Ruining any potential from the burger and just overpowering the sandwich. Couldn't even finish it. The buns are indeed home made, and you can tell. Unfortunately they do not toast the buns, leading to any mayonnaise or juice from the burger to disintegrate and make things difficult to hold. The woman taking orders at the front was either hard of hearing or not there completely. I will give this establishment another try but not with a burger ever again.

The people were very nice the food was not worth the money that we paid for it. Blue boys used to be a place where you could go to have an actual sandwich. Not just eat bread. And their prices have gone up so high paying $25 for a loaf of bread just isn't cool. I have always bragged about this place and I will not do so anymore. What we paid for and what we got......... Well let's just say I could have gone to Walmart and bought a loaf of bread and made the same thing at home. Do better blue boys.

Really good sandwiches but can get busy and take a while

I was very disappointed with a recent visit, the wait was long for my sandwich BUT Had the wait been worth it that's not a problem. The person was obviously new, No mayo on the bread completely dry, bread hard ,1 peice of tomato. Plenty of meat that was good, lots of banana peppers good. The cost was way more than expected. But when it's done well you don't mind. No fresh baked desserts sad. Portion size still good. Customer Service at the register good. I'll try again.

I have so many memories of this place.I haven't been here in years and nothing about the warm and welcoming feeling changed. People are still wonderful and the food is still the same as I remember. Bread is different, still good. Truly a historical part of this town and great example of our city. Next visit will be soon, guaranteed! I got the turkey, ham and cheese (no tomatoes) and he got the monster burger.

Always amazing sandwiches fresh bread and the workers have never failed to be in a good mood even at the busiest times.

I was craving a Blue Boy grilled chicken sandwich, so I stopped by to order one. Having my 3 & 6yo grands with me, I ordered them a pizza, along with chips and dessert. First, the employee took orders before it was my turn. She then went to help make sandwiches. Twenty minutes later, someone clocked in and she asked that person to take my order. 15 minutes later, we got our food. I had to go ask for the dessert and chips and cup for the drinks. Finally, we sat down to eat, and the pizza crust was too thick and hard for my grandchildren to bite through. (I couldn't either.) They used to have bread that tasted fresh baked when they were located in the JEA building, but they don't now. I'm saddened that I need to find another sandwich shop.

I was in the area for work today and decided to try this place out. Everything is made fresh and to order. I had the angus brisket cheeseburger 🍔 with added hot peppers 🌶️ and it was great. It came with fries and a drink. Honest service and fast but tasty. Great neighborhood place.

I really hope that I'll be able to come back and update this review with a better review because I really wanted to give them a 5 star review. BUT... I can't. I went there with a friend who frequents them often. As such, I wasn't sure what to order. My friend was no help because our tastes are different. There was a very nice guy and young woman at the counter who both get 5 stars for their professionalism and friendliness. After disclosing I prefer HOT subs and inquiring as to whether they sold meatball subs (they do not), the guy suggested their Italian chicken sub. (That may not be the actual menu name for it). It comes grilled or fried, with provolone, marinara, etc. He raved about it and by the time he was done I could already taste it! That was the pleasant part of my experience. From there... ehh. The wait for the food was exceptionally long. But just when I thought they'd forgotten us, it was ready. My friend had gotten some sort of hamburger sub that was HUGE... In comparison to my sub. Which was large still. Mine was 6 to 7 inches. Squared! ALOT of bread and I'm thinking, I won't be able to eat all of this in one sitting. Great, I'd have some for later as well! I wanted to see what I'd gotten! Marinara, mushrooms, I couldn't wait. I peeled the bread back and was like, uh... whatthefudgeisthis? (Not the actual terminology used.) Imagine ordering a foot long sub, receiving a foot-long but inside there was a piece of meat the size of Krystal's hamburger patty. I had more chicken than that but not by much. It was breaded, severely overcooked, and still, after peeling all the now excess bread away, about the size of a McChicken sandwich. To be fair, a double McChicken. I got marinara, mushrooms, provolone as promised, but I felt... duped. The photo I've attached is the half of what was left and is of a day old sandwich. It was more appealing when I got it. My fault, not theirs. But the disproportionate size, the overcookedness... that's all on them. I WILL visit them again and I WILL still recommend them, because I'm sure THIS isn't their norm. It can't be. I think this was someone's haste or having a bad day, or something and I won't write them off for that. I'm hoping my next visit will prove me right. If so, I'll update this review (and condense the heck out of it.). If you've read all this, then YOU definitely need to pay them a visit. By the way, their fries a delicious. I'm a ketchup junkie and their fries are so good I didn't even need any. Happy Eatin'!

Few things live up to their hype, but Blue Boy did not disappoint. I had the Super Club and it was so large that I had four meals with it. The bread is heavenly. It is soft and doughy with a beautifully baked crust. The ingredients are top notch with the freshest vegetables being used and high quality meats. The staff is pleasant and eager to please. Good things take time, so don't mind the wait. It is well worth it. The atmosphere inside is a bit dingy, but you might as well get it to go because you are going to have so much leftover. Highly recommend.

I'm glad I found this place! It was hard to rate because the food is FANTASTIC and well priced, but there are many management flaws too. First off, I placed my order online and had trouble with the parking so that gave them about 25 minutes for my sandwich. I had to wait inside an additional 30 minutes. Even that is too long to wait if I had just walked in and placed an order. It's a small, quaint joint but filled with people anxious because their whole lunch break was over and still no food. The service was good but they were confused and unorganized. People were waiting for a long time and many people came in and left. They could REALLY benefit from a professional analyzing and reorganizing the process. Now the food! HUGE portions - pay for one "regular" sandwich at about 16 bucks and get 4 small sandwiches! (see picture) I ordered a reuben. They make their own bread and it was delicious. I got a side of fries and their cherry limeade. They have the GOOD crunchy ice, and free refills. (You'll need it as you wait and wait and wait.) The fries were good. I'd go back when they weren't so busy but don't make the mistake of using your lunch break for this.

This place never fails! And I can never finish my meal! I don't care what sandwich you order, it is going to be good! They make their own bread daily and all of the sandwiches are prepared to order so you know it's fresh and delicious. They staff is always very nice and friendly. Nothing like that down home southern hospitality to start your meal off right. The best part is the mix of customers that frequent Blue Boys, so you always feel welcomed. It's a great local eating place that I hope has another 46 years plus left in it. Update: They have gotten way slower. The owner hides in back. They have one lady taking orders and one lady that makes the Sammie's AND hands out the orders. There are other cooks. No one is expediting the orders. So your food just sits there. And almost $4! for small fries that aren't cooked through or even full is robbery. It has definitely changed. I ordered on Clover at 11:50 am, I left there at 12:40! That's poor management. I gave the food 3 stars for the fries. It would have been 5 if not for the subpar fries.

My fiance and I came across this place and omg they are so good! The lady could tell we were new and helped us with our orders!
