A great lunch. We had often thought of going to Cafe Degas over the years, yesterday we finally got there. We were seated quickly at a very nice table. Our server, Taylor, took great care of us. The French Onion soup was a great starter. My wife had the two course Cooilnary special with the roasted chicken and a starter of soup. I had the flash fried oyster salad. All the food was wonderful. The relaxed atmosphere really helped us to appreciate the experience. Dessert was the dark chocolate decadence which lives up to its name. A wonderful experience.

Where else can you find a tree in a restaurant? This was my first time at this place and I can’t tell you the last time I saw a tree in a restaurant anywhere. The restaurant has an outside feel to it without being outside is the best way to explain it. We came here for brunch and it was delicious. The server was friendly and attentive with our drinks and order. I tried the crawfish quiche and it was phenomenal. I ordered the peach Bellini it had the perfect amount of sweetness to it. The crab in my salad tasted fresh. To top it off we both ordered desserts and the dark chocolate decadence was very rich, but not too rich to where I couldn’t finish it. A few cons of this place is that the bathrooms are super small and your only option is street parking.

Can't give a review on food as I wasn't given any service. Was recommended this place by a local. Made reservations for a 7:30 dinner. Seated on time but then left alone. No water, no waiter service, nothing. Only time we were acknowledged was when we got up to leave. Sat for about 20 minutes and just felt it wasn't for us.

Used to eat here all the time in the 1980s. I was in town and decided to stop in to see how they were today. Ordered my previous favorites of French onion soup, their bibb/house salad and some asparagus. The French onion soup was very good, some of the asparagus was excellent, a couple of stocks were a little on the woody side, but the butter glaze on them was delicious. The salad was not as good as it used to be. It was a good salad, but the bib lettuce was not as fresh as it could be, just a little wilted, and the dressing was not as vibrant as I remembered. Overall I enjoyed my lunch, but it was a good pricey overall... Still it's nice to revisit a place that has such great memories

While I am generally a critic of food and service, this has been by far one of the most disappointing experiences I have had (mainly because the reviews seem to glorify this place). The service was mediocre at best, below average for a supposed fine dining experience. The drinks were the only thing redeeming about the restaurant, I'll say that at least. Now, the food. In the menu, it looked genuinely appealing and interesting. Notwithstanding the hour wait for four entrees, I would say the presentation was just average, nothing to excite the senses. We had the lamb, the fish, and the chicken. The lamb was ordered medium, we received medium rare at most. The chicken was dry and simultaneously flavorless and salty (a rotisserie chicken from Costco would've been more appetizing). The fish was just so-so. Personally, I was looking forward to the fish the most, however, that only heightened my disappointment. It was not bad, per se. Just unbearably average. The rest of the meal, appetizer (soup and brussels sprouts) were fine. Overall, the food is one of the, if not the most overprized uninspired meals we have ever had. The ambiance and drinks were good tho.

Shared this experience with my husband and a couple of friends. We sat in the patio space which was covered but still felt sort of outdoors. Nice waitress who was attentive and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the lump crab salad, the Brussels sprouts ala carte (DELICIOUS!), the yellowfin tuna. Lots of desserts…chambourd cake was a hit, crime brûlée was amazing and my friend said the espresso ice cream ( with crème brûlée base) was one of the most amazing things she has eaten.

Perfect place and service! Be careful when placing your order and ask to reduce the amount of pepper, as is the case with the tuna salad, where the excess pepper in the tuna crust took over the flavor and left you unable to taste the other ingredients.

Food was good, steak and lamb especially. Everything else was fairly mid. The service is French style, sloooooow. Took 3 hours to finish a meal. Also most of the restaurant is outside and the rest is in a semi covered patio, aka warm to hot at anytime of year. Would say I recommend it, but for a fairly pricey place there are other options with better tasting food and quicker service.

As a tradition every year following the last day of Jazz Fest our group has dinner at Cafe Degas. In past years the food and service were great, however this year was disappointing. Three in our party ordered the escargot and all were served lukewarm. I was served the lump crab salad which I found skimpy for the price. We ordered a bottle of wine that was not delivered until we had completed our dinner so we sent it back. Seems things have changed at Cafe Degas or it was just an off night but we will rethink dinner at Cafe Degas next year.

We visited for brunch on a weekday. The best part of our experience was sitting on the patio, people watching, and enjoying our romantic surroundings. We shared a cheese board; I ordered the French onion soup and the omelet of the day; and my partner ordered the steak frites. The cheese board was nice, but probably could have benefited from some spreadables. For my taste, and for lack of a better word, it just felt too “dry,” and as though something else was needed to bring the flavors together. My French onion soup was easily the highlight of the meal and bursting with flavor. Per the daily menu, my omelet was supposed to be purely vegetarian, so I was surprised when I bit into it and discovered that it contained a very strong, very off-putting seafood flavor, as though it was prepared using utensils that had been used for someone else’s crawfish dish. Imagine if I had a shellfish allergy . . . My partner didn’t care for his steak frites, but that was more to do with his personal preferences, and the steak being prepared & presented in a non-traditional way (in a gravy). Our waitress gave off some strange vibes. Whenever we spoke to her, she would look at us in silence for an uncomfortably long period of time. Also, it seemed she was frustrated with us for ordering too much food and being indecisive about how much of it we should box up and take home with us. After we paid, I used the restroom and crossed paths with her on my way back to the table. Not only did she not say something like “Thank you” or “Have a good day,” she wouldn’t even make eye contact. For an establishment of this reputation, with these prices, I expect better service.

We sat outside on a comfortable spring evening. The tables are reasonably spaced so you're not sitting in each other's laps. For appetizers we had two militon and crab bisque, a nicoise salad, and the mushroom pasta. All were very good. The bread was good but small and it was served with plenty of garlic herb butter. It disappeared quickly and despite asking (twice) for more bread we didn't receive any. Entree's were the nicoise salad with tuna, the beet salad, and the hanger steak. Both salads were enjoyed. The hanger steaks were a bit of a mixed bag though. The pommes fries were very French (and good). The steak itself was very tender except for a large piece of grizzle that was unfortunately encountered. The confusing aspect to the dish was the very large amount of soy sauce absolutely drenching the steak. I would've chosen a bearnaise sauce myself. Since there was no beer I elected for a lemon saffron cocktail that I enjoyed.

This has always been one of my favorite restaurants however I'm really disappointed with the last three meals. It seems like it has been declining for a while. I used to go for lunch with a group of guys at least once, sometimes twice a week. A few years ago it started to get inconsistent. This past visit, I ordered the swordfish and it had a nice flavor except it was literally raw in the middle. I had to rush home after my meal as my stomach was upset (no further details necessary). My wife ordered the hanger steak (medium) and it was charred and overcooked. Two of the four in our group got fries and they were cold. Both my friend and wife got hanger steak and it was cold. Since it took so long to get served we decided to just go ahead and eat it. Now I hear that Jacque and Angel are no longer managing the place so this explains a lot. New chef, new waiters, same lovely ambience but the food is not up to par. I don't know if or when I will ever go back!

They were very crowded but we were seated immediately at 8:01. Our waitress Brittany, was fantastic and so were all the support staff. We both had the rack of lamb, onion and carrot soups, mixed, grilled vegetables and dessert. We had red wine and then, tea. The lamb came with a phyllo dough pastry stuffed with capers and it was fantastic but cold, and would be even better, -warmed. The deserts ran from vanilla ice-cream to chocolate decadence cake and the key lime ice box pie was terrific. The bill was reasonable for the excellent food and service. The customers around us seemed happy and satisfied. Driving there and parking can be a challenge, so we Ubered. The atmosphere was quirky and fairy like with white lights, part open air in the front and trees growing through the ceiling, halfway in and in the back. It was my first time and Donald had been there several times over 30 years. We will be back with friends.

Cafe Degas has been one of our favorite New Orleans restaurants for over 30 years. We love that it reminds us of dining in France - the drinks, the food, the atmosphere. The whole vibe. While I always enjoy the food, yesterday's special fish dish was particularly outstanding. Pan seared sheepshead with a beurre blanc sauce accompanied by pureed cauliflower, parsnips and frisee. The fish was cooked perfectly with little bits of crunchiness on the edges, tender and juicy on the inside. Perfection! Hubby enjoyed his onion soup, grillades and grits and chambord cake. We had before meal cocktails, wine with our main course and an after dinner coffee drink. Our server, Bryce, was attentive but not hovering and he was knowledgeable about the menu. We have dined at Cafe Degas about every other month for over a decade. The food and service have always been impeccable - until this weekend. The food is still fabulous but the service was subpar. Things seemed a little off kilter as soon as we arrived at the front desk. There was no problem with the hostess - she was friendly, efficient and professional. The pass-through window is adjacent to the hostess station, and there was a fairly loud and “colorful” disagreement between a wait staff and the manager. Fast forward to our meal: we never got our appetizers (kitchen glitch?) but the entrees were wonderful with the exception being the frites - they were different and were reddish (maybe paprika) and not crisp. All in all it was a lackluster dining experience. We’ll chalk it up to growing pains and wait a while before we return,

The food was good, service was good. I wouldn't give it 5 stars because I felt it was just average. The place itself is extremely small for the large crowd that it attracts.

Cafe Degas has always been a reliable French bistro-style restaurant. If you like a dinner cocktail, be sure to try the Saffron Collins.

Enjoyed everything thing about this place but the striped bass meal with risotto. The vegetables were hard, the risotto was smothered with some sort of gravy. A drizzle of it would have went a long way & the fish was not very good, however the hanger steak was great. Cooked to perfection with an awesome char and those shoe string fries. Excellent. The drinks were starting too.

Absolutely lovely! The French Onion Soup was exactly what we were craving on a cold afternoon. Paired with a Mimosa, it was a perfect lunch!
