I am a long time customer of Cafe Zuppina and would always recommend them to anyone who appreciates authentic Mediterranean cuisine. The owners are amazing and I have been going there since Berna was primarily the only one cooking and serving. However, I have to admit that I miss the old location. It was quaint, cozy, and was set up perfectly, outside of the Mutz Lakeland bubble that has aspirations on being like South Tampa or Saint Pete. It’s just one man’s opinion, but the atmosphere in the new downtown location doesn’t compare. I know that time moves on and changes all things, but I miss the simple days when it was just a great woman and her kitchen, or even after they renovated the old location. I will always support Cafe Zuppina out of loyalty, but sometimes things can become too big and lose what made them special in the first place. I would like to see them revert back to the old model, but I know that is unlikely to happen. Just my two cents.

I went to previous location several times to buy baklava. This was my first visit to new location. The baklava is now prepackaged with 4 PCs. There was no price or label on the container. Went to the bar to check out and was shocked to hear $15 for 4 pcs of baklava. The lady stated it was because it was imported from Turkey, it previous location price use to be less than $10. Won't be buying from here again.

We ordered chicken soup, falafel balls with hummus, lamb kebab platter, carrot cake, chocolate mousse. The falafel balls were the best!! The lamb kebab was perfectly grilled and seasoned, all the veg items on the platter were delicious! Loved the bakery items too. Chicken soup was slightly less flavorful in comparison to others. Everyone must try the Turkish coffee!!

I had business luncheon and was excited to see what Cafe Zuppina would be like in its new downtown locale. More casual than cozy. Perfect for quick lunch or leisurely as our turned out to be. Food was consistently yummy as I remembered from the original spot. I missed the old outdoor garden area. It was friendly, informative and efficient. We shared the falafel balls which were so fresh and delicious. My co worker enjoyed a chicken platter while I dined on the gyros platter. We will definitely be returning.

Cafe Zuppina, or as I call it, “Berna’s,” has been my favorite restaurant for as long as I can remember. Every childhood memory of delicious food takes place there. They’ve been open 15 years! That’s quite a long time to be fulfilling my tastebuds. Not only was the food exquisite, but the hospitality was just amazing. Berna was the sweetest owner, always handing out free treats and making sure to spark a conversation with a young me. She even gave us kids paper to draw on and then frame it on a little stand. Those memories, I will forever cherish. Lately however, everything has begun to degrade. I suppose it started around the time of Covid-19, when everything had to close, which was the last time I ever talked to Berna with her remembering me. I noticed after a while (late 2022) that the food was tasting less and less flavorful, but not by much. It still tasted like “Berna’s.” Something that made up for this, though, was the delectable dessert bar. The chocolate mousse was absolutely perfect, as were the beverages. Then in my most recent experiences there, the dessert supply began to dwindle, as did the tastiness of the food. As I said earlier, however, it still tasted like “Berna’s.” When I heard of their location change, everything began to make sense! I expected big things. Looking at the reviews, it seemed like the service and food were great, and I was very excited to try it again. Only now have I gotten the chance to taste it again. And, oh how I wish it was the same. I could never wish anything bad upon this restaurant, and I never thought I could say anything negative about it. But I must be blatantly honest. Every single thing that I usually order was different. The chicken: bland and unseasoned. The rice: mushy and salty. The delicious feta rolls that always manage to make my mouth water: tasted like fried donuts on the outside. And according to other reviewers, I haven’t gone in person yet, the dessert bar is gone! Everything seemed to lack the certain luscious taste and flavor that they used to encapsulate. My favorite, favorite part about the food at Cafe Zuppina was the flavor, the juiciness and tenderness of the chicken and rice. And just like that; it’s gone. Berna, if you happen to be reading this, thank you for everything you did for the restaurant and the memories that you gave me, but I don’t know if I can ever experience Cafe Zuppina like I used to.

Got the chance a few weeks ago to check them out at their new location and I have to say it didn't disappoint! My wife had been saying I would love the Brussels Sprouts, and she was not wrong! I ordered a Gyro platter and my wife had something different. The quantity of food when it gets to your table is a value all unto itself. Overall experience is that we will definitely visit again! My only "ding" (and it wasn't a big deal) is that it took quite a while for the server to come back around after our meal, and then even longer for her to get around to processing our check/payment. I think in downtown it is important to realize some people have to get back to work, other than that, no complaints with food or service!

This was a favorite spot at the old location. The food still tastes amazing! But sadly it is now way overpriced for tiny portion sizes. I went to Cafe Zuppina for lunch by myself a few weeks ago for the first time. I ordered the Chicken Kebab which was very good. However, after I ordered the Pistachio Baklava, I was shocked that I was charged $15.00 for 4 tiny squares of Baklava that was not even good or fresh. It was hard, not flaky, not sweet and did not taste fresh at all. I asked the waitress why it was so expensive and she said because the Baklava is imported from Turkey! It was horrible and not worth $15.00. Too Expensive! I was so embarrassed to have wasted my money on dessert. Homemade Baklava (4 tiny squares) in Lakeland costs $5.99 at KC Artisan Pizza which is excellent and worth every penny!

Today, my wife and I had lunch at Café Zuppina at 116 S Tennessee Ave, Lakeland, FL. This was our first time at the new location, and the place was busy! (NOTE: Their lunch hours are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) We arrived at 1 p.m. and were seated immediately. It was great to be able to enjoy Berna’s wonderful cooking again! I ordered the Romanian Brisket Platter, consisting of a generous portion of oven roasted shredded brisket with mushrooms along with sides of yellow rice, carrot salad, bean salad, and their very popular sautéed brussels sprouts. It was very good! My wife ordered the Lamb Platter, consisting of one lamb chop and three lamb patties with sides of tzatziki, yellow rice, carrot salad, bean salad, and their sautéed brussels sprouts. Everything was delicious. The portions are generous, so we ended up taking some food home for later. Desirae was our server, and she was attentive and friendly. Café Zuppina is a delight! They are open for both dine-in and carry out orders. Make a point of stopping by whenever you’re downtown in Lakeland.

I thought I would try your restaurant because I love Mediterranean food. I went to the counter to order, and the waitress recommended the chicken platter. It came in a round plastic container with the see-through lid. The chicken was cut in tiny pieces, very dry and overcooked, and it had no flavor. Along with that came a tablespoon of hummus, a tablespoon of mushy carrot mixture, some rice and Brussel sprouts. The brussels sprouts were very good. But everything else was not very good. The waitress came over to ask me how I like the food And I told her the chicken was very dry and overdone. She said sorry about that and walked away. The lunch was 20 bucks. I will never go back.

What a disappointment, So looked forward to this “restaurant” after reading such glowing reviews. The actual restaurant is closed, they moved dining services into the mini market. But failed to post a sigh on the door informing their customers. Ordered at the service counter, the server leaves the market crossing over to the kitchen (located in the restaurant) returning with an incomplete order. I ordered an ice tea, (she told me it came from Publix). about 5 oz. In a glass full of ice. I ordered a refill and was told there would be a charge, asked for some dressing for my salad, you guessed it, told there would be a charge. After lunch I asked about the missing item from my lunch. Low and behold, we’ve left the restaurant and she chased me down to present the missing food.

I was in Lakeland and wanted good Mediterranean food to bring home to Haines City. I tried to get take out at the Mediterranean Grill near Legoland which is exceptional fine dining at a reasonable price. I have not been able to get their food out of my mind and was willing to drive the twenty minutes out of my way. Unfortunately they were closed. I found Cafe Zuppina which has amazing reviews. The restaurant part is closed but you can go to the market. I ordered two greek gyros, a slice of feta pie, two servings of pistachio baklava, and a piece of Royal kataifi. I was so excited for some good Greek food. After waiting 20 minutes with no other people coming in to the restaurant I got my food. I drove home and when I looked at what I had I was very disappointed. I got five slices of pre-sliced lamb on a bed of lettuce with some tomato slices served in a pita. No feta, no peppers, no onions nothing else that would bring any flavor. There was a cup of what I assume is tzatziki sauce but it was creamy and bland with no distinguishable cucumber. The pita was generic. It came with a side of potato salad which I have never had with a Gyro. Why not hummus? For $14 I got a subpar excuse for a Greek gyro. The baklava was good but $2.50 for a bite size portion is still too much. The Royal Kataifi was also good. It's hard to go wrong with honey and pistachios. The feta pie was terrible. One slice is $7.00. It was a tough series of oily layers of filo dough with some orange cheese in one of the layers. It was clear that it had been sitting out for a very long time. I don't know what everyone else is raving about. There was a cake being sold there that said that it was from the Cheesecake factory. $12 for a slice. I spent $60+ on a very disappointing experience. I have no problem with pre-sliced lamb and store bought pita if I'm only spending $5-$8. This place makes no sense to me. $28 for two gyros that took 20 min to assemble. If your expectation of good Mediterranean food is the equivalent of an Arby's gyro then you will only be slightly disappointed.

I unfortunately was not very impressed with our meals. We came for the first time and the food was tasteless, served in to-go boxes even though we dined in and we spent $60+ when it was all said and done for 2 people. I just expected more.

Let me start with saying that, growing up in a middle eastern home, and visiting various middle eastern restaurants around the country, I'm quite familiar with the style of food. I am also accustomed to paying what it takes to get a good meal. That said, being in Lakeland, I wasn't expecting it to be top-of-the-line, but at its pricepoint, I did expect more. I was really looking for lamb, but at $25 for a lunch portion and more for dinner, I opted for the chicken instead. The chicken kebob, while well-cooked and tasty, was primarily seasoned with cumin. The Brussels sprouts were, well, roasted Brussels sprouts and nothing particularly notable, as was the rice (though middle eastern rice is usually quite delicious). That carrot salad - I would be happy to never see that again. I couldn't quite tell about the hummus, though, because it was in with the carrot salad and not at all tasty to me, and the pita was rather gummy and not what one typically finds at similar restaurants. From what I saw online, the prices suggested a lovely sit-down restaurant, so I was a little taken aback to find it is actually a fast-casual market that serves entrees in to-go containers. The food was good but didn't satisfy my middle eastern craving and left a bigger dent in my wallet than the location would suggest.

It disappoints me to write this review because I had great first impressions of Cafe zuppina. However, knowing several people that have worked there and their experiences have made me make the decision to discontinue spending any of my money there. They don’t pay their employees accordingly by withholding wages. Cleanliness is also a huge issue. I will say it’s also very overpriced. You get food in Togo boxes and it’s not table service. I can’t justify spending my money at a place that can take advantage of their employees. Do better Cafe zuppina

Wonderful take out experience with this restaurant! We placed an order online for 11 entrées and a couple appetizers the afternoon before we needed it the next morning. I spoke with Laura to confirm our order in the morning and upon pick up, it was packed beautifully with everything we will need. When I walked in the door, I was greeted by three beautiful smiles and warm personalities. We will definitely be ordering again, 10/10 recommend.

I brought my niece here for lunch as she was in for a brief visit from St. Pete Beach. We both like Mediterranean food so thought this would be a good fit for us both. First we had a hard time finding the door! Parked by the big sign but found that door locked. Saw another door a few steps to the left so headed there only to find a hand lettered sign directing us to go the "The Market". Went to that door but a woman coming out of it told us the door was yet another trek to the left of that! Finally got inside and a woman told us to "grab a menu, find a table then go to the counter to order". Okay fine, so we sat down and decided on our food choices. The least expensive lunch item is the gyro sandwich which was fine with me as that was my choice anyway. My niece chose the feta roll which I told her had gotten a good review. She went up to the counter and ordered our food and drinks. Soon a woman wandered over with our drinks then a few minutes later another woman came by and dropped our tableware< wrapped in a paper napkin, on the table. Some time later our food arrived in takeout boxes. We were taken aback to say the least, that food items priced from $14 to $22 were not even served on plates. P.S> Dinner items can run to $38 and I presume they also are served in takeout boxes. Just amazing. Bottom line: the gyro sandwich was very good, the potato salad was mediocre. I had a small bite of my niece's feta roll and it was very good. Sorry but I cannot recommend this restaurant as I don't feel the value is there.

Favorite place for a calm, quiet dining experience with the friendliest staff. I miss the vegan chocolate cake! But both the dinner and dessert are always fabulous, no matter what we're getting.

Went there for lunch this week for the first time after seeing how highly rated the place was. The staff behind the counter was great but the lamb gyros I had was just ok. The potato salad that came with it was decent but for $14 not including tip or drink, that didn't really seem worth it. I can't speak for the other food but the menu was a bit on the high side. I can say much of the dinner menu was in the $20-30 range and with how unimpressive the gyro was, I wouldn't want to spend that much without knowing it would be good.

I just attended one of the Cafe Zuppina cooking classes. The classes have recently started back up. The classes are informative with the recipe provided, demonstrated before you and the cooked food item shared for your enjoyment. I have been attending classes for several years and greatly recommend them.

Ugggh. Everything looked good but tasted awful. Mostly pistachio Pastries and they tasted burnt. Not edible. I ordered food to go as well the brisket and it was so dry I couldn’t eat it. Was really hoping to find an international food and pastry shop here but so far it’s a NO
